Identity

"What if I didn't see myself as a pariah anymore?" Lena mumbled to herself. "Maybe I could free myself and finally just be who I am and allow myself to be loved?"

Kara had just been about to enter Lena's lab when her super hearing picked up on her friend's whispered thoughts. She stopped and squinted to look through the wall. Lena was sitting at the desk, her mother's book of spells open in front of her, gazing into emptiness.

"What would my identity be then, though?" Lena mused.

Kara smiled, feeling that Lena might finally be ready to see herself as the member of the family that everyone else already saw and loved her as. The Kryptonian turned around and headed back to the others.

"Where's Lena?" Alex asked "I thought you'd gone to find her. We wanna start the game."

"She's still pouring over her mom's book", Kara said.

"It must be quite a leap for her to find out about having magic", Nia said.

"Yeah", Kara nodded, "but I'm sure she'll find her way. Let's give her time."

"So, if I'm not a pariah anymore, what am I?" Lena contemplated. "Well, I'm still me, right? Still Lena, still a Luthor but also my true mother's daughter, a scientist, entrepreneur and part of the super family", she concluded. "I could just finally be able to feel like I belong BECAUSE of who I am, not despite it."

This realization made Lena smile as she emerged out of her thoughts. Filled with new hope, she put her mother's book away and went to join her family.
