Shield Apartment: Morning…
Goku was woofing down a large breakfast while his sister naturally ate a bit more reservedly. Even though they were eating, general chit chat still occurred between them until Melissa noticed she had a message on her phone.
After reading it, she looked to her brother. "Hey Goku, you still have nothing planned for today, right?"
"Nope, nothing comes to mind." Goku replied.
"Good, how would you feel about meeting some friends of mine?" Melissa asked. "They finally have some free time, and I think you'd like them."
"Sounds good to me." Goku replied. "I've been wanting to meet the Big Three of U.A. anyways."
"Alright, it's settled." Melissa sent the message. "Finish up breakfast, and we'll head on over to U.A."
Streets
While Goku and Melissa were walking to the station, the former was noticed by multiple people.
"Hey, isn't he the guy with the cool attack names?"
"You're right. That Quirk is awesome!"
"He was strong for someone so young."
"And he's cute too."
"Man, he's one tough cookie."
Goku smiled and waved at the people as the siblings passed by them. Melissa was glad her brother had been noticed because he really had fought hard to reach the position he had. The pair eventually boarded the next train where more people recognized him.
Development Studio
Upon arriving at the Development Studio, the siblings saw a trio of Third Year students waiting for them. There was a dark-haired guy, blond haired guy, and a periwinkle haired girl.
"Melissa!" The girl ran over and happily embraced the Support Student. "Oh, I've missed you so much!"
Melissa giggled as she fixed her glasses. "Yeah, I've missed you to Nejire." She then looked to the blond- and dark-haired guys. "Same to you as well Miro and Tamaki. It's great to see all of you."
"Heyo Melissa." Miro greeted cheerfully.
"Hey." Tamaki greeted sounding rather timid especially in comparison to his comrades.
"Give me your head piece Miro, and I'll take care of it while you three get to know my brother." Melissa stated.
"Right, here you go." Miro stated as he handed it over.
"Ah, this is your little brother, Goku." Nejire smiled as she ran over to him. "You're the First Year who won the sports Festival. Your Energy Quirk is super cool. It's a lot like my own, and I've always wished to meet someone with a Quirk like mine."
"Yeah, I've heard about your Quirk." Goku voiced happily. "By the way, we do know each other's names, but we should probably make proper introductions. I'm Goku Shield."
"Mirio Togata." The third year introduced himself as he shook Goku's hand. "Nice to meet ya."
"My name's Nejire Hado." The girl spoke up. "And 'chicken heart' here is Tamaki Amajiki." The dark-haired boy just leaned his forehead on the wall. "With that out of the way, I just got to know how your Quirk works? You did so many things during the Sports Festival. Can you tell me? Can you? Can you please?"
Goku chuckled. "Sure."
He then explained how his Quirks seemed to work to the best of his capabilities. His strength Quirk granted him many various physical enhancements that only seemed to grow greater the more he trained was responsible for the utility he now had.
"Holy cow dude, you got one of those mixed Quirks." Togata smiled. "That's awesome."
"Well, having an awesome Quirk wouldn't be enough if I never trained it." Goku explained. "I've worked every day to get where I am now."
Tamaki muttered to himself. "That's…interesting."
"Ohmygosh, he sounds like he has a similar commitment to training like you Mirio, right?" Nejire spoke up and tugged Togata's shirt sleeve a few times.
"Actually, yeah." Mirio agreed with her. "I have a complicated Quirk which required me to put in a lot of work."
"What's yours?" Goku asked curiously.
"Permeation." Togata replied.
"Mirio can make his body pass through anything." Amajiki added while not taking his head off the wall.
"That is cool!" Goku praised his upperclassman.
Togata chuckled and rubbed the back of his head. "Thanks dude."
"Anyways, why did you guys want to meet my sister and I here?" Goku wondered.
"Besides wanting to meet the brother she's proud of, I needed a patch up on my gear, so it was like saving two birds from 1 stone." The blonde answered.
"Oh, I like that much better than how the saying normally goes." Goku stated. "Who would hurt a bird, let alone two, with a stone?"
"Heh, you get it!" Togata declared happily. "Anyways, my headset got busted during my work study, and Melissa is the best support person I know. I asked Tamaki to tag along with me because it would be better than just staying home all day."
"I still don't understand that reasoning Mirio." Amajiki replied. "I'm most comfortable there and you know that."
"We need to get you comfy outside of home to Tamaki." Togata commented. "Plus, you wanted to meet Melissa's younger brother to."
"I did too, but I'd have come along with them anyways since I like to tag along." Nejire stated.
"Well, I'm glad you could all be here today because you're all interesting to talk with." Goku declared earning a laugh from Mirio and Nejire while Tamaki was still silent.
The group continued their chat while Melissa did her thing.
Later…
Time just flew by for them. Goku and the three Third Years were hanging out, joking around, and having a laugh. Well, except Tamaki, but that seemed to be normal for him. Melissa eventually exited the studio where she heard her friends talking.
"You know Mirio, Goku kind of reminds me of you." Tamaki pointed out. "You're both positive, upbeat, and hard workers."
"He's got a bit of you in him too, Tamaki." Togata added. "His Quirk has a bunch of utility like yours, and some of the things he's working towards sounds really creative."
"So, he's got the best bits of both of you!" Hado smiled. "That means he'll make an amazing Hero one day."
"I'm honored to hear that from you three." Goku stated happily.
Melissa smiled, glad her friends and sibling were getting along, as she approached the Hero students. "Hey Mirio, I'm done with your head set."
"Oh. I was so distracted with our conversation that I forgot about that." Togata replied sheepishly as he put his headset on and adjusted it to his liking. "Yeah, feels good as new. Great work as always."
From there, Melissa joined in on their conversations, and they spent another few hours just hanging out. Eventually, the day had to come to an end as the siblings bid the Big Three good bye for now. All in all, Goku had a fun day.
Streets: 2 Days Later, Morning…
Goku met Midoriya at Tatooin Station and rode the train with him toward their school. Of course, people recognized them from the Sport's Festival, so there was some crowding and well-wishes from their fellow passengers. Izuku wasn't used to it, so Goku helped keep him steady.
After exiting at their stop, the pair put up their umbrellas as they walked and Izuku spoke up. "Kind of weird being recognized by people you don't know."
"Eh, you get used to it." Goku voiced.
His friend looked like he was going to reply, but they both heard a familiar voice coming up behind them. "Midoriya, Shield!" The two of them turned around to see Iida running at full tilt towards them in a poncho. "Why are you walking so slow!? You'll be late!"
Without even slowing down, he shot past them leaving small splashes in his wake.
"The bell won't ring for another five minutes!" Izuku protested.
"U.A. students should always be ten minutes early!" Iida called back over his shoulder. "Hurry up!"
"Well, at least it seems like he's doing okay, right?" Midoriya asked.
"He's not okay, Midoriya." Goku replied worried.
"W-What do you mean?" Izuku asked
"If he were fine, he would have stopped to lecture us about our slow pacing." Goku answered. "Plus, he usually calls us by our first names these days."
"Well, maybe he's just in a hurry to get back to class." Midoriya chuckled nervously. "Other than Yaoyorozu and you, I don't know of anybody in our class that takes studying as seriously as he does."
Goku sighed. "Maybe…"
He left it at that as the pair entered U.A,
Class 1-A
"It's so weird that people recognized us from TV." Mina stated as she took her seat in the classroom. "People kept wanting to talk to me on the way here!"
The first bell had already rung, so the students were all just waiting on their teacher to arrive. As Goku made his way to his seat, he made sure to greet Uraraka, Todoroki, and Momo along with the other classmates that he had become friends with.
"Yeah, me too!" Kirishima stated excitedly.
"People on the street were staring at me!" Hagakure said from her desk. "It was actually kind of embarrassing."
"Isn't that the norm for you?" Ojiro inquired.
"All it took was one festival, and we're basically celebrities," Kaminari declared happily as he bumped fists with Mina. "This school rocks!"
Just then, the door slid open to reveal Aizawa who walked in. "Class, today we'll be having an important session concerning Hero Informatics. You all need code names. Time to pick your hero identities."
The class' reaction was immediate and nearly unanimous. "This is going to be awesome!"
A growl from Aizawa, as well his eyes glowing red, saw to them all being silenced immediately.
"This is related to the Pro Hero draft that I mentioned the last time we were in class." He continued. "Normally, first-years like you wouldn't have to worry about the draft. Not until your second or even third year, but your class is different."
He paused as if wondering whether to tell them something before continuing. "The fact is, by extending offers to freshman like you, these pros are willing to invest in your potential. They can still rescind their offers at any point before graduation if they lose interest in you."
"So, we still have to prove ourselves even after we've been recruited?" Hagakure asked.
"Correct." Aizawa aimed a remote the board behind him. "Now, here are the totals for those of you that received offers."
Numbers and names appeared on the board:
Shield:3859
Todoroki:3556
Bakugo:2127
Tokoyami:360
Iida:301
Momo: 284
Mezo: 264
Kirishima: 68
Ochaco: 20
Sero: 14
Ojiro: 1
Goku knew it would be difficult to decide what agency he was going to intern at. Honestly, he couldn't complain about that since he'd practically have his pick of almost any agency in Japan with those numbers.
"Normally, the draft is spread more evenly." Aizawa informed. "But there's a pretty big gap this time."
"Gah!" Kaminari groaned as he leaned back over his chair. "That's not fair!"
"What about the real star, moi?" Aoyama complained.
"Man, Todoroki and Shield really have their pick of the bunch," Kirishima stated with a hint of jealousy.
"I got an offer." Ojiro sweat dropped. "I didn't even make it to the combat round."
"While it doesn't happen often, the potential is there for a Pro or even a Retired Hero to put in an offer." Aizawa informed. "If you feel underserving, you don't particularly have a choice."
"Well, I'll just need to work hard as not to let that person down." Ojiro declared.
Momo sighed as this was a reminder of her own inadequacy. Todoroki was a recommendation student just like her, yet he went much further. Goku was the top of the class over her, yet even seemingly being close to him in rank, she knew she'd have failed against a lot of the others.
"Momo, are you okay?" Goku asked concerned.
"Just wishing I'd been able to do better is all." Momo voiced.
"Well, it's never too late." Goku assured her. "I mean, you have your pick of 284 agencies, so one of them can help you." He smiled. "Plus, if you ever need help getting strong, you can come to me."
"Maybe…" Momo stated.
"It's never a bad thing to accept some help." Goku smiled. "I wouldn't be nearly where I am now without my family and others on I-Island."
"I'll think about your offer." Momo ended up smiling slightly. "Beyond that, you are right about how important what agency I pick will be."
"Despite these results, you'll all be interning with pros, got it?" Aizawa told them interrupting the conversation. "Even those of you who didn't get any offers. You've all had experience in fighting villains during the USJ incident, but it will still be beneficial for you to see pros in action."
"If we're going into the field, we'll need Hero names!" Yamcha declared.
"Things just got way more exciting!" Uraraka stated in agreement.
"These Hero names will likely be temporary." Aizawa warned them. "But take them seriously, or…"
"…you'll have hell to pay later!" Midnight stepped through the door dressed in her hero costume. "The name you pick today could be your Hero identity for life," The woman waltzed into the room. "Think carefully, or you may get stuck with something utterly indecent."
"She makes a good point," Aizawa reached for his sleeping bag. "Midnight will have the final approval for your Hero names. It's not really my thing. Your Hero name will reinforce your image and show what kind of Hero you want to be. Take 'All Might' for example."
Midnight handed small whiteboards to the front row, so they could pass them back along with dry erase markers. They were to write down their chosen name and Hero identity. Goku already knew who he wanted to be.
After a few minutes had passed, and Aizawa was fast asleep, Midnight stirred from the spot she had taken. "Alright class, who among you is ready to share?"
That shocked the class since most didn't seem to realize they'd share with the class. Aoyama soon went first stepping up to the podium and declaring he was the 'Shining Hero, I cannot stop twinkling.' Even after Midnight shortened it for him, the class couldn't believe it got by.
Next to go was Mina who wanted to be Alien Queen much to to Midnight's horror making her reject it. Asui went after naming herself as the 'Rainy Season Heroine, Froppy.' It was well-received not only by Midnight, but the rest of her class who cheered for her new Hero identity.
After her went Kirishima who declared himself as the 'Sturdy Hero, Red Riot'. Midnight noted that he was paying homage to a second-generation hero, Crimson Riot, warning him that if he was going to do so, he would have that much more to live up to.
Kirishima eagerly accepted the burden, as it were, saying that he would live up to the great name of his idol. Jiro was going to be the 'Hearing Heroine, Earphone Jack.' Shoji would become the 'Tentacle Hero, Tentacole.' Sero was the 'Taping Hero, Cellophane'.
The 'Martial Arts Hero, Tailman' was Ojiro's new name. Kaminari, despite Jiro's suggestions otherwise, decided that his hero identity would be 'Chargebolt, the Stun Gun Hero'. Hagakure claimed the 'Stealth Heroine, Invisible Girl. Yaoyorozu became the 'Everything Hero, Creati.'
When it came time for Todoroki to present his Hero name, he announced that he would simply go by his birth name, Shoto. 'Tsukuyomi, the Jet-Black Hero' was Tokoyami. It translated roughly to 'god of the night'. Koda was the 'Petting Hero, Anima.'
Bakugo's first pick, 'King Explosion Murder', was shut down by Midnight on the grounds that it was too violent. When it came time for Uraraka to present, it was with no small amount of nervousness that called herself 'Uravity'.
Yamcha then decided it was time for him to step forward. "I will be the 'Fierce Hero, Wolf Strike'."
"Ah, you strike with the ferocity of a wolf." Midnight approved. "Well done."
Kirishima was a little surprised when Mina came over to his desk. "What's up Mina?"
"I was hoping you could help me with my Hero name since you were so quick to have yours." Mina stated. "Honestly, I got nothing other than 'Pinky'. Think you could help me pick a new name?"
"Er, well…" Kirishima scratched his face.
He didn't know if he had any right to be included in this decision since it was going to be her Hero Name. Then again, Pinky didn't sit right with him as a name for such a heroic girl in his opinion. The earnest look on her face made it difficult for him to refuse.
With that in mind, he chanced upon a name that he hoped she would find favor with. "What do you think of 'Ashid'?"
"Ashid?" Mina repeated looking a little confused at first. "Wait, like my name, but take off the last letter to make it sound more like my Quirk?"
"I mean, if you don't like it…" Kirishima began.
"No, that's not it at all." Mina stated quickly. "It's kind of like how Ochaco's is a play on her name and Quirk. Cute."
"Really?" Kirishima asked hoping that she wasn't just pulling his leg.
"Really." She giggled. "Thanks, Kirishima. Now I just need a title to go with it, but I can handle that myself."
With that, she retreated to her desk. Bakugo now tried again saying that he would be 'Lord Explosion Murder'. Once again, Midnight rejected the name saying that it was too similar to his original title, and thus carrying the same violent overtones.
While the blond boy seethed in his chair, Mina stepped up to the podium once again with her confidence back in her bouncy gait. She set her whiteboard on the wood with gusto ready to announce the name given to her by a friend with confidence.
"Thanks to a suggestion from my friend, I'm going to call myself the 'Melting Heroine, 'Ashid."
"Now that's a name I can get behind," Midnight stated approvingly.
"Yes!" Mina declared with an enthusiastic fist pump that preceded her return to her desk.
Goku decided it was time he take his turn.
"Alright, number 1 first year." Midnight quirked her brow. "What did you decide on? Remember, people already have high expectations for you."
"I'm well aware." Goku nodded as he turned to face his classmates from the podium with his whiteboard in hand. "I am the 'Mythical Hero, King Wukong', and I have three reasons why I picked this name.
Firstly, he is known as Sun Goku in Japanese mythology, so it should be easy to link back to me. Secondly, he was a mythical figure said to overcome the best fighters within the heavens. Thirdly, my energy Quirk could be seen as my own form of magic like the myths say he had."
"Very well done." Midnight declared approvingly. "It's simple, easy to remember, and you are right in its connection to your name making it easier to associate with you."
After him came Izuku who did choose to take on the name Deku, and Tenya choose to stick with his name. Bakugo tried one final time with the Hero name 'Lord Explosion Murder', but it was rejected as well. His name would just be Katsuki Bakugo for now.
When the names were chosen, Aizawa woke back up. "Now that you've all decided on your Hero names, we can go back to talking about your upcoming internships. They'll last for one week. As for who you'll be working with…
Those of you who got offers will choose from among them. The rest of you will choose from a list of 40 agencies willing to take you on. Choose wisely since each agency has a different specialty. You do not want to choose the wrong one."
"Think of it like if you were Thirteen." Midnight added. "You'd want to choose an agency that specializes in recue over fighting."
"Think carefully before you decide. You have until the weekend." Aizawa then looked at Goku as the bell rang prompting lunch. "Shield, I want a moment of your time."
"Right sir." Goku declared as he stood and followed the teachers out.
Corridors
Midnight took her leave; however, Aizawa didn't follow and instead lead Goku around the corner to Nejire.
"Hello Goku!" Nejire greeted happily.
"Hey Nejire." Goku greeted back.
"You already know each other?" Aizawa inquired.
"Yeah." Goku nodded. "I met her and the other two members of the Big Three through my big sister the day before yesterday."
"Good, that'll make this simple." Aizawa stated. "Your energy Quirk is a lot like hers. Since she's had years with it, and two years of training here, she could help you garner better control and versatility. Currently, she is doing a work study under the Dragoon Heroine: Ryukyu.
That means by interning under Ryukyu, you'd be able to work with Nejire, and I'm certain you'd learn a lot under Ryukyu as well. While it is just a suggestion, I believe these points make Ryukyu your best choice."
"Oh, I personally think it'd also be a lot of fun." Nejire added bubbly. "I know she'd love to have you under her, and I'd love to work with you. Plus, Aizawa is right in that there is a lot I can show you in even just 1 week."
"It does sound like this would be a great fit, but I would feel bad if I didn't at least consider the other agencies from my list." Goku smiled and rubbed the back of his head. "Would it be alright if I took the time to decide, sir."
"This is your choice to make." Aizawa agreed.
"Thanks." Goku went back into the classroom.
Aizawa turned to the female member of the Big 3. "If he does join, keep an eye on him for me."
"I will, but I don't feel good about it." Nejire replied.
"Neither Quirk would account for the transformation he used at the USJ." Aizawa retorted.
"Still, he's one of my friend's younger brothers." Nejire retorted. "Melissa only has good things to say about him."
"It's better to be safe." Aizawa retorted before walking away. "If he does go with Ryukyu, and you turn up nothing, I won't ever ask you, nor your friends, to do something like this again, alright?"
"Alright." Nejire replied.
Train Stations: 2 Days Later…
Goku grinned at his friend. "So, ready for our internships, Deku?"
Midoriya grinned at the sound of his new Hero name. "Yeah, I'm excited to meet this Pro Hero, Gran Torino."
"I don't think I've heard of him." Uraraka commented as she and Momo stood side-by-side. "Was he famous for anything?"
"Well, not really." Midoriya admitted. "I had actually never heard of him until All Might told me about him. Apparently, he was All Might's teacher at U.A."
"Sounds like the perfect teacher for you." Momo looked at Goku. "By the way, I don't think we know which Hero you choose to intern with."
"I think the same could be said about you." Goku voiced.
"Oh, right." Momo realized. "Even though my offers were less than yours, I did decide to take your advice and consider my options. When I did, one name really stuck out to me being Sir Nighteye."
"Sir Nighteye was All Might's last sidekick." Goku stated. "Uncle Might never brought him around, but we always heard good things until they had some sort of falling out. Even then, they still have respect for each other."
"Whoa, that's actually an amazing opportunity for you Momo." Izuku declared. "Sir Nighteye is almost as great as the top ten when it comes to rescue, fighting, and support. Everything really. Given the utility of your Quirk, he can really set you on the right track to be an all-around Hero."
"That was my reasoning after genuinely considering every Hero." Momo voiced. "Given I've heard he has very high standards, it'll give me the motivation to succeed."
"Sounds like a match to me." Ochaco smiled. "Kind of makes me wish I'd chosen another Hero, but I'm sure Gunhead will be great." She then looked at Goku. "Now, it's your turn. No more putting off who you picked."
"Well, there were a lot of great options, naturally given the volume, for me to consider interning with." Goku began. "Ultimately, I felt Aizawa's suggestion of the Ryukyu Agency seemed to be the perfect fit. Still, I don't regret taking time to at least considering my other options."
They then noticed Iida prompting Izuku to call out to him. "Hey Tenya!" He ran over prompting the other three to join him. "You're going to Hosu, right?"
Iida nodded. "Correct."
Izuku frowned at that since he'd heard that piece of information while walking by Aizawa's office. He knew Hosu was the city where Ingenium had been attacked, so he had begun to worry that his friend was up to something dangerous.
"Just remember, if you need somebody to talk to, I think we'd all be here for you." Izuku voiced.
"That's right." Goku added. "I don't care if it's two in the morning, and I've been beaten into the ground by a villain, you can call me."
"Me too." Uraraka declared.
"I know I haven't been friends with all of you for long now, but you can contact me as well." Momo stated.
Iida's eyes softened a little. "I will. Thanks."
Then, he turned around and was moving swiftly to find his train car.
"You think he'll be okay?" Uraraka asked.
"I think so." Midoriya guessed. "Shield? What do you think?"
"Check on him every day any of you can." Goku ended up replying grabbing everyone's attention. "Iida is trying to act like himself, but he's failing at it. I think he might be trying to dissuade us from worrying about him. Especially since he's going to Hosu."
Izuku, Ochaco, and even Momo shared looks of concern between them at their class reps' words.
Present Mic confirmed their Earth shares a history with ours through mentioning Napoleon, so it's highly likely that they have similar myths. Since Goku would need a Hero name, King Wukong seemed like a good option. Just naming him Sun Wukong wouldn't work since in this context there is a mythological Sun Wukong already there. Changing Mina's Hero names was simply because out of all of them, I felt it was the weakest in canon. I mean Pinky, really?
That's why I got that idea from Your Hero Academia by Matras. Just to stop myself from completely copying it, I did drop the Queen part. Then, we come to internships. Ojiro got an offer he didn't in canon. To my knowledge, Heroes are free to extend offers to whoever they want, but they all seem to go for the finalist. So, I decided to extend a certain offer to him, but I'll be keeping that a surprise until next chapter.
As for Nighteye extending an offer to Momo, he realistically would have given it to Goku if he had foreseen him accepting it. What I'm trying to say is that Nighteye has done this because he foresaw it happening. It's tied to something else he's seen happening through his observations of the future now. Essentially, Goku being here has altered the future he did see, but maybe not in the way you think.
Monster King: You got it.
KaijuEmperor: Essentially, Goku is the creator of the Kamehameha because this version of Roshi. who will be introduced next chapter, is going to have a Quirk. Now, Goku first unlocked the Ki spheres through his impression of Bakugo's Quirk, so it would be most natural for him to expand from that. The best way to strengthen a Ki sphere is to simply make it bigger which is easier by cupping your hands.
Goku didn't settle for that and drew on other impressions of countless Heroes with various long ranged Quirks. Just as the Ki sphere is technically Goku's substitute for an explosion, a beam of ki would be a replacement for say Endeavor's fire or how Denki discharges his electricity. Goku mostly worked on the Kamehameha and Dragon Fist to make them truly viable. In that instance, it was all a balancing act to draw out the most powerful possible beam which required a solid stance.
From there, the name was easily implemented as Goku noticed it took a moment to get a truly strong beam, but it was strong when implemented correctly. Hence Turtle Destruction Wave or Kamehameha. When it comes to Bakugo, even if he consciously wouldn't admit Goku is stronger, the fact is the numbers don't lie. What I'm saying is that deep within his subconscious, Bakugo was beginning to understand that he needed to really push himself.
After hearing that Goku at first managed to take a few hits before going toe to toe with a creature All Might beat, his subconscious really pushed him to step up his training to the limit all that month. During their battle, Katsuki didn't have to worry about technique per say. Essentially, in the moment, Katsuki and Goku ended up discarding technique. Goku didn't really bust out his martial arts as the two of them acted like brawlers.
