Lena was having lunch with Kara at their favorite place. It had been a long time since the two friends had had time to enjoy this simple pleasure. Saving the world from your maniacal half-brother and an interdimensional imp would do that.
"Oh my god, this is so good", Kara mumbled, her cheeks bulging a bit.
Lena chuckled, "I've missed this. It's great to finally be able to do this again … without worrying about Lex or the end of the world."
Kara nodded, "Words right out of my mouth."
"You better keep that shut or those pot stickers will make an escape", Lena smirked.
Kara swallowed dramatically and declared, "Crisis averted. But of course I'm not as cultured as you, Miss Luthor, Head of the Lena Luthor Foundation"
She inclined her head respectfully with a sly smile.
Lena raised her eyebrow, "Oh my, so formal Miss Danvers, Editor in-chief of CatCo Magazine? To what do I owe this honor?"
The two locked eyes and burst out laughing.
When Kara had recovered she became more serious and said, looking at Lena, "Seriously, though, Lena, your Foundation has already started doing so much good. This is so great. You should be really proud of yourself."
Lena blinked, "I…Kara…"
"I am in any case", Kara beamed.
"Always believing in me, huh?" Lena whispered, reaching across the table to take one of Kara's hands.
"Of course", Kara said, nodding vigorously and squeezing Lena's hand.
"In fact, your belief in me is why", Lena flashed a bright smile, "why I'm planning to set up the Kara Danvers Courage and Hope Award."
Kara's mouth fell open and she looked so utterly clueless that Lena laughed, "Better close your mouth before that fly that passed come back."
At that Kara covered her mouth with both hands, staring at her friend, "Lena, this is… Why?"
Lena said seriously, "I'd like to officially pay tribute to you – the person who, though her courage to believe in me, gave me hope and a new life."
Kara let her hands sink and was staring at Lena incredulously.
"Unless you don't like the idea", Lena stammered, her face falling a bit.
"No!" Kara yelped, finally coming to her senses. "It's just … wow … Lena, this is just so huge and I'm totally overwhelmed and so honored."
Lena beamed, relief and happiness written all over her face.
"Thank you, Lena", Kara said, taking her friend's hand again.
Lena smiled, "You are more than welcome, Kara. Without you the Foundation would not exists and I would not be here."
Lena squeezed Kara's hand and they sat in silence for a while.
"So, you want to come to my office to go over the details for your award?" Lena teased, rising and turning to leave.
"You bet", Kara chirped and hurried to follow her friend.
