House
Lena took a deep breath as she drove up to the Luthor mansion for the first time since Lex had held her captive there. She had been so busy lately and so engaged in all the wonderful things that had been happening now that Lex and Nixly were defeated that she had been able to comfortably rationalize putting off this moment. But she knew she had to confront her past and process it in order to close this chapter once and for all and to move forward. And that's what she was going to start doing today.
Unlocking the door and stepping into the spacious entrance hall gave Lena chills. Her heart started pounding and she had to focus on her breath to keep it steady.
"Get a grip, Luthor! You've dealt with worse than an old house!" she hissed impatiently.
"But it's not just any old house to you."
Lena spun around. Kelly was coming up the steps, smiling and hugging Lena when she'd joined her in the hall.
"Kelly", Lena said, hugging her friend, "Thanks so much for coming."
"Of course, Lena! So, how can I help?" Kelly asked.
Lena considered her for a moment and then quietly walked away a few steps, gazing around the house.
"You're right, you know", she said, "This is not just an old house for me. It's a reminder of so much pain", she took a deep breath, closing her eyes. "But", Lena continued, turning to face Kelly, "It's also a place where I experienced happiness … when my brother was only that, my brother."
Kelly gave an understanding nod, "And I think focusing on those good times is a great start to processing the trauma your associate with this house."
"Yeah", Lena breathed. "But, as much as I truly value your advice and your support", she smiled at Kelly who smiled back, "That's not the reason I wanted to meet with you here."
Kelly tilted her head in confusion.
"I'd like to give this house to your foundation, Kelly, to be turned into a safe haven for alien children where they can learn about and train their abilities." Lena announced.
Kelly stared, "What? Lena! Are you serious? This is … wow … But it's your family's home."
Lena snorted softly, "It was the home of the Luthor clan, yes. And I will forever be connected to them but you guys are my family now. So, yes, I'm absolutely sure", she finished.
Kelly launched herself at Lena and embraced her so tightly that Lena let out a yelp.
"Wow, careful there or you'll be competition for with Kara", she chuckled when Kelly released her.
"Sorry, this is just … wow … beyond generous and wonderful! Lena, I don't know how to thank you!" Kelly beamed, still holding Lena's hands and squeezing them.
Lena smiled widely, "You are most welcome! Just make it a great place for those kids. That's all I ask."
Kelly nodded vigorously, "I promise."
"Good. Then", Lena pulled Kelly along with her as she strode forward, "Let me give you the tour so you get an impression of your new property."
