"Miss Luthor, someone is here to see you", Lena's assistant's said, appearing in the door to her office at the foundation.

Lena looked up, confused, "Really? Who? I don't recall having an appointment."

Her assistant said hesitantly, "Well, the gentleman apparently doesn't want to give his name but insists he is a friend of yours from Metropolis."

A frown creased Lena's forehead as she mumbled, "A friend from Metropolis?" After a short silence she decided to let her curiosity get the better of her. "Fine, please tell reception to send him up."

"Of course", the assistant said and left.

Lena checked herself in the mirror as she always did before receiving visitors and then settled behind her desk. A few moments later, her assistant reappeared followed by a tall, well-dressed man. Lena let out a gasp and covered her mouth in shock as she shot up from her chair.

Seeing this, her assistant immediately said worriedly, "Is something wrong, Miss Luthor?"

Lena blinked a couple of times to try and clear her mind enough to answer.

"Ah, no, no, everything is fine, thank you", she stammered, smiling awkwardly at the woman.

Her assistant nodded and left, leaving the man and Lena alone. A lengthy silence stretched between them before he broke it.

"Hello, Lena. It seems I have managed to surprise you", Jack smiled, smoothening his tie in slight embarrassment.

"Jack", Lena breathed, slowly lowering her hand and taking a few steps towards him. "Is this really you?" she whispered, her eyes filling with tears as she approached him. "Are you really here?"

Jack looked utterly surprised at her very emotional reaction.

"Of course it's me, Lena. It's been a few years since we last saw each other but I haven't changed that much", he chuckled. "And neither have you – still as beautiful as ever", he added more seriously, inclining his head.

Lena was now standing directly in front of Jack and could smell his cologne. She recognized the scent and it brought back an unexpected flood of memories. But she had to be sure.

"What brings you here? How…?" she asked incredulously.

His hand went back to his tie – a nervous tell Lena recalled – and he stammered, "Well, I had an appointment yesterday and when I arrived I saw the poster for your foundation's new project at the airport." He hesitated, "And … well, it sounds a bit stupid but I swear it's true", he said, looking directly into Lena's eyes, "I felt compelled to come and see you. It was like … like something was drawing me here."

Lena stared at him, tears running down her cheeks, "Oh my, this is …", she mumbled.

"I'm sorry, Lena", Jack started, "I didn't mean to upset you. I … Like I said, I just had to see you but maybe that wasn't such a good idea after all. I'll just …"

But Lena silenced his ramblings by embracing him and whispering, "Stay, please."

He wrapped his arms around her, closing his eyes and breathing in her scent. He had a feeling that they would have a lot to talk about but for now, holding Lena and feeling her hold him was more than he could ever have dreamed.
