"So, what's going on?"
Barely in the Karaoke room, Kagome smiled and turned to Sango and Miroku, two of her friends from her earlier childhood. They hadn't attended the same middle school, but they'd been in the same elementary school and had continued to keep in touch. "Well, I guess coming right out and saying it is best. So, the Vice President, Tezuka-San,"
"Yeah, what about him?"
Whatever it was about Tezuka, Kunimitsu that Miroku didn't like, he was making it obvious lately in how he spoke. Kagome and Sango shared a look but said nothing about it. "He's my fiancé, sort of."
"..."
Kagome flipped through the songs on the machine, her eyes bouncing back and forth between two that she couldn't decide on. "It always comes down to BoA or Nami Tamaki."
"Wait―" Sango and Miroku glanced between one another before Miroku lifted a hand for Sango to go ahead.
"Kagome, what you're saying about Tezuka-San, is that real?"
"Yeah, it is...Zutto zutto soba ni ite...ah, that one would be good. I already have it in my head anyway."
"Karaoke down, Kagome. Talk to us."
Laughing, Kagome dropped her hand and turned to her childhood friends. "So, when I rescheduled the first Student Council meeting, it was because my parents sent me this uninformative text that required I arrive at a certain address at the specified time but gave no other info in regards to why I was going there. I ran into Tezuka-San on the way...well, he ran into me. It turns out, the address was his, so he walked me to his house and when we got there..." she shrugged, "it was a promise between our fathers, and was a long time coming—the union between our families. Now, Tezuka-San and I are living together; we have our own apartment and everything. It's kind of...a blur. Yesterday we studied until we passed out. So, I didn't think much about it. It really is a mess..."

"Engaged?!"
Kunimitsu sighed, leaning forward on his arms, he gave a small nod.
Eiji laughed, "but isn't that okay? Higurashi-Kaichou is super pretty, and she's really nice, right, nyan?"
Shuusuke looked thoughtful at his friend, "well, certainly Higurashi-San is a strong choice for the Tezuka family, she's got good grades too, and an athletic student. I don't know her, but she seems to be well-rounded. Who agreed first? I assume it was her?"
"I did."
That took them by surprise. Takahashi smiled from across the counter as he placed a couple of plates down, "how do you feel about it?"
"I don't really know. I have mixed feelings. I don't mind Higurashi-San, but I don't know her all that well either. I only agreed because my grandfather had already made the arrangements and wouldn't be swayed or argued with. They had the apartment ready, and everything moved in before they even asked us or brought it up. I know him. There wasn't ever a choice."
"So, you agreed on default. How does Higurashi-Kaichou feel about it?"
"I'm pretty sure she was going to turn him down before I cut her off and agreed to the arrangement. She seemed to be in shock for a moment."
"Hehe, it's astonishing to see Tezuka-Buchou take that initiative. Even if you thought Tezuka-Ojiisan wouldn't budge on the matter, for you not to at least try and persuade him... it sounds like Buchou kind of wants this engagement."
'Do I?' Kunimitsu took a drink of the tea in front of him, "...maybe."
Shuusuke smiled, "then how will you proceed?"
"I guess I'll just have to do my best to get Higurashi-San to fall in love with me. After all, she's going to be my wife, right?"
"Hai~! Work hard, Buchou!"

Kagome stopped in front of the apartment she was staying at now. Pulling her keys from her pocket, she stared down at them. 'What am I supposed to do?' The lights were off, so she assumed that Kunimitsu was still out with his friends. She had stayed out till eight, but all good things must come to an end. She had homework, and so did he! So... so where was he!? 'No, I'm not going to bother worrying about it. If his grades suffer, that's on him. Augh...no, as President of the student council, it's my responsibility to see to it that those in the student council do their best to keep their grades up! He's the Vice President; it's imperative that he does well...'
"Ah, Higurashi-San,"
Turning, Kagome stepped back and gave a nervous smile, "O-okaeri, Tezuka-San."
"...Tadaima."
Unlocking the door, she walked inside with him following behind. "Did you have fun with your friends?"
"Mn,"
'I don't know how to speak to him. Conversations don't ever go far...' she placed her backpack down and made her way to the kitchen. A drink was all that she had on her mind. There was fresh sweet tea in the fridge, compliments of Tezuka's kaasan.
"You went out to Karaoke with Hoshi-San and Taijya-San. Anything interesting happen?"
"Not really, we discussed...well...this." She motioned to the living room as if it explained everything. In a way, it did. She didn't need to specify any further when Kunimitsu nodded in understanding. "You did too, right? With Fuji-San and Kikumaru-San."
"Hai," he sighed, lifting her backpack, and walking down the hall. "I'd like to keep this between people we trust. We're still in school, and I don't care for high school drama."
Kagome gave a small nod, "yeah, yeah, I hear ya..." the very idea of the rest of the school finding out, it was stomach curdling. "Are you hungry? I ate at Karaoke."
"I ate with my friends, but I wouldn't say no to a drink."
"Tea, water, juice?"
"Tea,"
She pulled a glass out, adding a few cubes of ice, she poured a glass of sweet tea as he came back out into the living room. She guessed he put their bags away in the study. Placing the glass on the counter, she watched him sit down across from her. His eyes vaguely met hers before dropping to the glass. "Why don't you take a bath first tonight,"
"Hm?"
"I'll go prepare it for you,"
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah, I wanted to get my school work finished, and I need to look over the budgets for the sports clubs."

Soaking in hot water, Kunimitsu relaxed in the heat.
'How is this going to continue. We're both awkward but trying to make things work...still. What was Ojiisan thinking?'
"I would, of course, be honored to take on the Tezuka family name, and bring unity to our families. If this was truly something my father wanted, I want to see it through to the end."
'Saying something like that... she wasn't serious, was she?'
Dunking his head under the water, he came up, wringing his hands through his hair. Leaning back against the tub, he stared up at the ceiling. The smell of vanilla and spice touched softly at his nose, and he closed his eyes as he relaxed in the scent. "What is that?" Pulling himself up out of the water, he let the water drain as he pulled a towel from the shelf. Drying off and changing into his pajamas, he placed the towel over his head before grabbing his glasses and pulling them back on.

Kagome carefully mixed the caramel sauce in the saucepan and smiled at the smooth consistency. "That's good..." pouring it into the mug; she lifted the other pot with a milk and chocolate mix. "Homemade hot cocoa..."
"Is that what it was?"
Nearly dropping the pot, Kagome jumped when a hand reached out and caught the handle. Making sure she didn't burn herself, Kunimitsu placed it down on the stove in front of her. Blushing, she lifted her head and gazed up at her husband-to-be. "Mn, uh...h-how was your bath?"
"It was nice. Though, I admit I cut it short because of the smell."
"Does it smell bad?!"
"No, that's not it. It smelled good."
Looking down at the mug beside her, she lifted it and turned so that she was facing him properly, "I made enough for two...would you like to try it? Though, I don't think it's good for an athletes' diet... maybe." Taking a sip from her mug, she was lost in a daze of sweet, spice, and cocoa.
Not noticing the smirk that played on Kunimitsu lips, her eyes darted back up at the feel of a hand on hers. The mug was pulled from her hand, and a pair of lips replaced the warm ceramic of the cup. If not for the fact that he'd pulled the cup from her hand, she was sure she would have dropped it! Her heart fluttered, not used to the attention she'd received. Bringing a hand up, she placed it on his chest and gave a slight push—nothing hard, just enough to put distance between them.
"It's not as sweet as I'd thought it'd be."
'T-tasting?!' ducking her head, she felt him move away to the pantry, pulling another mug free from the shelf as he did. "Tezuka-San... what should I do in this situation?"
"What situation? Oh, did you finish your homework?"
'Homework...ah!' Running out of the kitchen, she made her way into the study, checking over her schoolwork, she pulled out the literature assignment due tomorrow. From beside her, she heard a soft clatter, turning to see her cup sitting on the desk, she looked around, but Kunimitsu had already left. 'No, don't overthink it, Kagome!'
"Bathe first and then do your schoolwork,"
Blushing, she sighed, lifting her drink, she took a small sip before placing it back down and disappearing down the hall into their bedroom. Gathering nightclothes as she heard the water in the bathroom turn on, signifying that Kunimitsu was prepping the tub for her as she'd done earlier for him. Burying her face in her clothes, she couldn't be sure if she wanted to scream or cry. Her heart was under assault, and she didn't know what to do.

Nearly two hours had passed, and Kunimitsu was locking the apartment up. Checking the front door, he fixed the shoes at the door and turned off the lights. Walking towards the study, he peered inside the room and paused at the sleeping female. She'd passed out on the desk, though it looked as if she'd at least finished her schoolwork before sleep had stolen her away.
Stepping inside, he didn't think about his actions. Instead, he reached down and lifted her into his arms. Catching the light on the way out of the room before making his way to their room. 'A union with Higurashi-San. Perhaps this type of thing won't be so bad.' Nudging the blankets aside on their bed, he carefully slid her under the sheets and covered her.
Climbing in after he had her situated, he placed his glasses on the table beside the bed and felt the day drift off his shoulders. Rolling over, he looked over at the girl beside him. Lifting a hand, he brought a finger to the lock of black hair that had fallen into her face. Brushing it away, his thumb grazed across her smooth cheek before he slowly withdrew it. 'What the hell am I doing? Playing house...' closing his eyes, he felt the stress of the last few days curl in on him. A shuffle of the sheets beside him, a soft warmth brushed his hand, and he opened his eyes once more to see a smaller hand laced in his. He stared at the small hand for nearly thirty minutes, unmoving, too afraid that he'd wake her. Finally, exhaustion struck him, finding him unaware of the shifting and slight changes made throughout the night. Unaware to the body the sought-out warmth, or the finger that gently and soothingly brushed circles along the arm that found his chest. Unaware...
