Flow

At school, well before her friends, Kagome was sitting in the Student Council room. She'd woken up in a warm embrace, one she'd never been in before. It was insane how her heart rate had increased at the catch of the fan's breeze against his bangs. She'd watched them brush along his forehead, the way they touched just past his eyes. Kagome reached her hand out, going as far as to run her fingers through his bangs and push them out of his eyes. Really! What was she thinking!? "How I got in bed is another matter all its own." Signing her name on a piece of paper, she pushed it aside and closed her eyes. "This is nuts. I can't keep going like this."
"There you are,"
Snapping her eyes open, Kagome looked up to see the very issue on her mind stepping through the door. "Ah! K-mn, Tezuka-San..."
"...you left early this morning."
"Yeah, I'm..." she stopped for a second, trying to regain her bearings. Finally, she let go of a breath of air, "I'm not a morning person. I haven't been sleeping well lately if I'm honest."
Closing the door behind him, he locked the door. Kagome settled her eyes on the lock, tensing a bit. She relaxed when he leaned up against the wall. "Is that my fault?"
"I don't know. There's just been so much going on these last few days, I have a lot on my mind, but nowadays, I only say half of what I'm thinking."
"Are you doing that now?"
"Now?" Thinking about it, she wasn't. She was speaking clearly, her thoughts. "No, not now." Watching him thoughtfully, she asked him, "what do you honestly think of this?"
"I'm not against it." Pushing off from the wall, he walked over to where she was sitting and settled in a seat not far from hers. "I probably should be a bit more bothered by it, but part of me was excited at the prospect of Higurashi-San being my future wife. You are a remarkable student, polite, genuine, and you have amazing goals and dreams that I want to see come true. I look forward to learning more about you, and hopefully, you'll come to feel the same. Either way, we're in this situation; I think it would be easier for us just to let the reason for our situation drop and go with the flow." Sighing, he brought a hand to the bridge of his nose, "or so I say. It's still troubling that I've never heard of the Higurashi's until a few days ago."
Blushing, Kagome nodded, "that they had intended on us bringing our families together and never considered introducing us earlier. Wouldn't it have been easier?"
"Are you implying that we would have fallen in love naturally?"
Kagome shook her head, "no! Not at all!" Her hair whipped around her face before she buried it in her hands. Her cheeks flushed in embarrassment, "that's not how I meant for it to sound."
A small smile appeared briefly on Kunimitsu's lips before he schooled his features, "sorry, I was teasing."
Looking up, Kagome met his eyes, and for a moment, she was convinced that this wouldn't be so bad. After all, he wasn't against it. She was the only one making things difficult for herself.

One Week Later
-x-x-x-
Once again, morning found Kagome waking up before Kunimitsu. Not able to process where she was, she felt warm and safe under the blankets of her bed. On top of that, a weight over her hips and hand had her in no hurry to move. Except, she realized, it should. Her eyes snapped open, and she looked in confusion at the pajama top her head was nestled against. It wasn't hers. She knew that for certain. Why was it she couldn't focus on what was going on?! Oh... glancing up, her eyes came in direct view of a defined chin. Carefully extracting herself from his arms as she sat up and moved a bit higher on the bed, Kagome stared down at the sleeping male beside her.
'I keep forgetting. I'll never be able to live a normal life in these conditions if I can't get used to it.' Reaching her hand out, Kagome trailed a delicate finger over her future husband's lips. A faint blush surfaced as she recalled those lips on hers. 'He hasn't done anything like that since. Even then, he acted as if nothing happened afterward.' She leaned down, 'can I act just as aloof? Pretend as though nothing has happened?' Her hair curtained along his cheek, and in her daze, she never noticed the subtle twitch of his finger as she touched her lips to his. Her eyes drifted close; her chest pressed up against his with her hand settled on the bed, holding her weight and keeping her steady. In Kagome's hazy state of mind, she barely comprehended the hand that had found her wrist, warming its way up the length of her arm. Instead, when he started to respond to the kiss, her eyes shot open, and she stumbled backward. His hand, however, only tightened as she tried to put distance between them.
"S-sorry!" Kagome brought her free hand to her face as she desperately tried to hide her embarrassment and shame. 'What was I doing? WHAT WAS I THINKING?!'
"Kagome-San, you don't need to apologize...it's not like I didn't respond."
"I shouldn't have done it in the first place, though, I just...I don't know what came over me..."
Pulling on her, she failed to keep her balance and ended up flustered with both arms on either side of Kunimitsu. It was insane. Everything was moving too fast!
"Don't push yourself...Kagome. We're in this together, for the long game. One day at a time, we can take things slow...so, for now, let's lie here."
"..." Today was a school day, and while it was early and they wouldn't have to leave for at least an hour, she couldn't wrap her mind around lying there in his arms and doing nothing. He was so careful of her, and yet he had no problem teasing her. She was constantly confused, and it had barely been two weeks. What was she supposed to do when they got more comfortable around each other or when things, Kami forbid, escalated. Closing her eyes as he ran his fingers through her hair, she let herself melt into his warmth. 'Perhaps it's not so bad...to just go with the flow.'

Kagome slipped her school slippers on and closed her locker, walking inside, she knew she wouldn't see Kunimitsu probably until the end of the day. Her volleyball meet was later, and he had practiced this morning. Not only in the morning, but he would also be staying after school for practice, being that they would have to get ready for an upcoming tournament. "Do I miss him already?"
"Higurashi-Kaichou! Nyan~ is Buchou around?"
Kagome quite nearly had a heart attack when an arm was thrown over her shoulder, and vibrant reddish maroon hair came into her line of view. "B-Buchou?"
"Ah, not really, but he's been Buchou for so long, it's hard to think of him any other way."
Smiling, she laughed a bit at that. Lifting his arm from her shoulder and stepping back to put a bit of space between them, "he should be on the courts already. You have early morning practice, right?"
"Ah! We do, but I was sure he'd walk to school with you." A pout had formed on his lips, clearly not pleased with the lack of commitment on his Buchous part. "Nai, nai! Higurashi-Kaichou, if Buchou doesn't et his act together, I might have to steal you from him!"
"Ah, none of that, Eijiko,"
Another voice came from behind Eiji and both she and Eiji adjusted to see the new arrival. "This is Fuji-San and Kikumaru-San, in the Tennis club, right?" Kagome wanted to make sure she had their names right. "You should both hurry to your practice, I don't want you to be late." Bowing, she left the two quickly before they could say anything that might start rumors in the school. So far, they were doing well keeping this arrangement to themselves. If even one rumor started up at their school, well, it wasn't likely to go well for them. 'I will do my best to avoid them. I can only "go with the flow" so much.'
