Poe stirs to the sound of Rey's voice. Scrunching his eyes closed, he burrows his head into the pillow, trying to block out the noise. After the torture of the past few weeks, all he wants to do is sleep. His alarm will wake him soon to deal with the day's demands. 'Give me a minute,' he mutters, his throat dry and voice strained.

But Rey doesn't even pause. She speaks quickly, almost feverishly, and a flash of concern yanks him back to the world of the awake.

'What's wrong?' He rolls over to check on her – but she's still curled up on her side, eyes closed and hands crossed in front of her. Frowning, he listens closer to what she's saying.

It's her speech.

Huffing out a frustrated laugh, Poe flops back onto his pillow.

Rey's first speaking engagement on behalf of the Resistance is fast approaching. She's given speeches before to rally the troops – they both have – but this is different. This isn't a matter of inspiring people who already believe in the cause; it's going directly to the lawmakers and trying to convince them to put protective measures in place to prevent a group like the First Order from rising again.

Trying to convince them to care.

They've dedicated every waking moment to this speech, and it seems Rey's subconscious has decided to take it one step further by dedicating every sleeping moment to it, too.

With a sigh, he grabs his pillow and heads out to the couch. He doesn't want to disturb her, but there's no way he'll get another second of sleep in that bed tonight. And if he's not rested in the morning, he won't be much use to anyone, let alone her.
