The emerald leaves and hanging ivy of the jungle form a canopy above them as Poe holds Rey's hands over the dais. BB8 can hardly contain his excitement at their side, rolling and fidgeting incessantly on the spot as he holds out the wedding rings, waiting for them to be ready for him. Surrounded by only their closest friends and family, it's like nothing else exists in the world.

As Poe finishes his lengthy vows, he takes a solid gold band from BB8 and slips it onto Rey's finger. It's simple yet precious, just like their relationship, and it fits her just as well as flying and adventure.

Then it's her turn. Blood rushes to Rey's cheeks as everyone's attention turns on her, and he squeezes her hands to ground her. After a moment, she returns the gesture before taking a deep breath and saying quickly, 'You're my rock when the waters get rough and my lighthouse in the darkest of nights. Every second of my life is better with you by my side. I love you.'

Poe's heart warms at her words. They're short and to the point, but they're no less earnest for their brevity. Poe knows her well enough to know how much she hates talking about her deepest feelings, especially in front of a crowd. The crack in her voice when she tells him she loves him, and the way her eyes train on him as if he's the only person in the room — that says more than several paragraphs of flowery admissions ever could.

That's alright with him; he isn't marrying her because of her ability to give speeches.

He's marrying her because the idea of spending a single day without her kills him.

A/N: Prompt: 'I cannot make speeches. If I loved you less, I might be able to talk about it more.' from Emma by Jane Austen (aka my favourite Austen book)
