Keith stared down at his phone, with a sigh. His mother had messaged him earlier that morning telling him where the spare key would be since she and Kolivan would probably be at work by the time he got there.

When he made the decision, he felt ready to move on and leave the bad memories behind.

However, now it appeared he was having second thoughts.

Could he really leave everything behind? Sure he had bad memories here now that he and Lance were broken up but…he also had good memories here. His memories with his friends were here.

"This park and these houses

Old streets I have walked

Everything dear, will it be here

One day when I am returning?"

Keith smiled softly remembering Shiro showing him the ring he picked out to propose to Adam when the chance came up.

Though, knowing Shiro, he would be an anxious mess about it.

"My brother will get married

Have children and homes

It sounds so nice

Well planned and wise

Never expecting surprises"

Keith frowned as he glanced around his apartment, memories of his friends hanging out in the living room, him and Lance messing around in the kitchen, him and Lance cuddling while watching a movie and Keith falling asleep on the couch.

"I wonder

It's frightening

Leaving now

Is that the right thing?

I wonder

It scares me"

Keith froze remembering the conversation he had with his mother last night. She was asking him if he was having second thoughts, at the time, he had a few. However, his mother said something to him that flicked a switch in his brain.

"You'll never know, unless you try," Krolia said softly after listening to Keith's doubts.

"But who the hell am i

If i don't even try?

I'm not a coward

Oh no, I'll be strong

One chance in a lifetime

Yes, I will take it

It can't go wrong"

Keith grabbed the boxing tape and started taping the boxes shut, he had gotten a few boxes done last night but he still had a few boxes to tape off and put in his car. He didn't have much, he never was one to decorate. There was enough in the apartment for him to be comfortable in his own space.

"My friends are my family

This city I love

Buses I've misses

Boyfriend I've kissed

Everything old and familiar"

Keith turned back to the box with Lance's stuff in it and frowned. Ever since his break up, Keith had hoped Lance would open his eyes and come back to him. However, he never did.

And that was enough reason for Keith to move on.

"I wonder

It's frightening

Leaving now

Is that the right thing?

I wonder

It scares me"

Keith started picking up boxes and carrying them down to his car. His neighbour who was heading out for some errands with his wife saw Keith carrying boxes and offered to help him carry them to his car. Keith tried to protest but the man insisted and helped carry boxes while his wife finished taping boxes and placing things in boxes that hadn't been put away yet.

Keith was grateful for their help and felt a little sad leaving, they were kind people and had been there when he needed help.

"But who the hell am I

If i don't even try?

I'm not a coward

Oh no, I'll be strong

One chance in a lifetime

Yes I will take it

It can't go wrong"

He did a final sweep of his apartment before he headed down to the first floor and to a familiar apartment. Keith knocked on his land lady's door and handed her the last rent cheque and the apartment keys, waving a final goodbye with a smile. The lady wishing him well with a smile.

Keith stared back up at the apartment building for the last time. He let out a soft sigh and climbed into his car, sending a text to his mother that he was on his way. His first stop was to make a quick stop at Lance's house and drop off the box of his stuff. He knew Lance was out with his father today so he didn't have to worry about running into him.

"Yes I will take it

It can't go wrong"

"I'm back!" Lance announced as he walked through the front door. He pulled off his jacket and headed into the kitchen where he could smell his mother getting lunch ready. His sister Rachel was helping.

"Welcome back," Rosa said with a smile. "Lunch is almost ready."

"Smells great Mama," Lance said with a smile.

"Oh before I forget, Keith stopped by today," Rosa said placing the wooden spoon she was holding down.

"He did?" Lance asked with wide eyes to which his mother nodded.

"Yes, I'm glad to see he's feeling better," Rosa said taking over what Rachel was doing and instructing her to set the table. "He dropped off a box, said it was stuff you forgot at his place and that you've been meaning to pick up for a while."

"O-oh," Lance said with a sheepish smile. "Y-yeah, I keep forgetting to grab it before I leave his place."

"I left it in your bedroom, go and get changed and then come down for lunch," Rosa said pointing to the stairs.

"Right," Lance said with a nod, Rachel side-eyeing him as he left the room.

By the time Keith arrived at his mother's place, it was about 4 pm. There was a black car in the driveway. As Keith pulled into the driveway, the front opened and out came his mother, Krolia. Her black hair was tied into a low ponytail and she was dressed in a pair of black jeans, a red tank top, and a dark grey cardigan.

Keith got out of the front seat and his mother came down the driveway, pulling him into a hug with a smile on her face.

"It's good to see you again Keith," Krolia said giving him a soft squeeze.

"It's good to see you to Mom," Keith said returning her squeeze.

"Kolivan should be home in about an hour," Krolia said pulling away. "Why don't we get some of your stuff into the guest room? We can at least get you somewhat organized."

"Sounds like a plan," Keith said as he and his mother started bringing boxes into the guest bedroom, a few doors down from his mother's bedroom.

By the time they finished getting Keith's clothes organized in the dresser and closet, Kolivan had arrived home. Kolivan worked an office job and was at work from 9 am-5 pm (Cue 9 to 5 by Dolly Paton ) and had weekends off.

Keith had met Kolivan a few times, so he was already familiar with the man.

"I'm sorry to hear about your break up," Kolivan said as he helped Krolia with dinner while Keith set the table.

"Thanks," Keith said with a small smile. Kolivan had gone through a few break ups so he knew Keith wouldn't be much talkative as he worked through his feelings. Keith was grateful Kolivan didn't push the subject. "And thank you for letting me stay here."

"Of course," Kolivan said with a nod. "You're family, I wouldn't leave you to fend for yourself, I'm pretty sure your mother would have murdered me if I did."

"And no one would have been able to find the body," Krolia teased with a smile. "I've seen enough crime shows to know what to do."

The next day, Keith woke up to a million missed calls and texts from Shiro and Adam. He realized what time it was and groaned seeing it was 1 pm in the afternoon. He couldn't remember the last time he had slept in this late. How tired was he?

His phone started buzzing and Keith saw the caller was Shiro as his picture and name popped up on the screen.

"Hello?"

"Keith!? Where are you!?" Shiro exclaimed, worry laced in his voice. "Adam and I went to your apartment to check on you and your neighbours told us you moved out."

"Yeah," Keith said with a sigh. "I meant to tell you before I left."

"Left? Left for where?"

"Mom's," Keith answered getting out of bed and turning his light on. "I just-I had to get out of there, everywhere I looked I could see him."

"That's understandable," Shiro said with a sigh of relief. "I just wish you would have told me, a man's heart can only take so much you know," Shiro teased and Keith could picture the smile on his face.

"I know," Keith said with a sigh. "But you're still here aren't you?"

"Very funny," Shiro said with a sigh. "I'm just glad you're okay, we'll have to continue this later, I gotta head into work."

"Right," Keith said as he pulled on a light jacket and headed out of the bedroom. "Have fun with that."

"I'll try," Shiro replied with a soft chuckle. "Bye."

"Bye," Keith said as Shiro hung up. Keith headed into the kitchen and found a note on the counter, from his mother.

Keith,

I meant to wake you up this morning but you looked tired last night so I figured I would let you sleep. Help yourself to something to eat, I'd rather you not starve. And be sure to take some time for yourself. Kolivan is on a work trip for the weekend so it will just be me and you until Tuesday when he gets back.

I'm not off work until 3 pm so until then you'll have the house to yourself. The hammer and nails are in the second drawer beside the sink, I noticed you had some pictures with you that I figured you would want to hang up.

I'll see you later,

Love, Mom.

Keith smiled softly and went to start making something for lunch. There was leftover chicken from last night so Keith pulled something together to eat. To be honest, he wasn't sure what it was he made, some sort of sandwich he supposed. At the least, he did eat it and it did fill him up until dinner.

He tidied up his mess before heading to the living room to relax until his mother got home. He must have zoned out because the next thing he knew, keys were turning in the front door and in walked his mother.

"Good afternoon," Krolia called out with a smile. "Or should I say good morning?"

"I must have been more tired than I thought," Keith said as he helped his mom put away the groceries she sat on the counter.

"You must have," Krolia agreed with a nod. "But then again, you've been dealing with a broken heart and sometimes we let it take over, it's normal."

"I guess so," Keith said with a sigh, he wasn't completely over Lance but being home with his mother he could already feel it slowly healing him.

"So for dinner, I was thinking that pasta I used to make when you were younger," Krolia said as she was arranging cans in the cupboard. "I haven't made it in so long and-"

"Hold that thought," Keith interrupted as his stomach started to churn. Krolia only saw Keith for a few moments as he dashed into the bathroom and she could hear him throwing up from where she was.

"Keith?" Krolia called out, putting the cans she had in her hand down on the counter before heading to the bathroom. "Are you okay?" she asked as Keith continued to throw up before he finally stopped and leaned back against the tub, one arm wrapped around his stomach. Krolia stepped in and flushed the toilet before leaning back against the counter.

"Sorry," Keith said with a groan.

"You have nothing to apologize for," Krolia said with a shake of her head.

"It must have been the leftover chicken I had for lunch," Keith said as his mother handed him a disposable rinsing cup that was in the bathroom that she had filled with water.

"Did you feel sick at all today?" Krolia asked placing the back on her palm on Keith's forehead. "You don't feel like you have a fever."

"I felt fine all day," Keith said with a sigh.

"Hopefully you didn't catch something," Krolia said helping Keith off the ground. "How about we do soup instead for tonight, something light?"

"That might be best," Keith agreed with a soft chuckle.

A few days had passed and Keith was not getting any better. He would wake up in the morning and have to run to the bathroom to empty his stomach, certain smells around the house would make him nauseous, and he had the strangest appetite.

"Ice cream and pickles really?" Adam asked.

"Yeah," Keith said with a sigh. "Strange enough, it didn't taste bad."

"I'm going to pretend you never said that," Shiro said and Keith chuckled practically seeing him shudder in his head. "So are you going to the doctor? I mean waking up in the morning and throwing up and getting nauseous from certain smells, that doesn't sound normal."

"I know, Mom's gonna take me to the doctor and see what's going on," Keith said as he slipped on a pair of black jeans, however, he noticed they weren't quite fitting as they used to. They weren't zipping up all the way. Luckily, his shirt was long so it hid his zipper but still. Had he put on weight? That was strange.

"Let us know how it goes," Adam said pulling Keith out of his thoughts. "I mean it, tell us."

"I will," Keith said as he tugged a red jacket on. "Bye."

"Bye!" Adam and Shiro called out as Keith hung up and headed out of his bedroom and met his mother in the foyer.

"Ready?" Krolia asked turning to Keith.

"Yeah," Keith replied with a nod.

It wasn't long before Keith and Krolia were sitting in one of the rooms waiting for the doctor to come and do a checkup on Keith. Keith was seated on the bed with the loud crinkly paper on it while Krolia took a seat on one of the chairs by the door.

A few more minutes past and then the door opened and in walked a female doctor with brown hair tied in a neat bun on the top of her head and thin clear rimmed glasses on her face. She was wearing a black pencil skirt that went past her knees, a magenta blouse tucked into her skirt, a white doctor's coat, black tights and black heels.

"Keith Kogane, now that's someone I haven't seen in a long time," she said with a smile closing the door behind her and pulling a pen out of her pocket. "You probably don't remember me, I'm Doctor Amelia Henderson."

"I remember," Keith said with a smile. "You were our family doctor before we moved to Cranston."

"That's right," Amelia said with a nod. "So, what can I do for you today?" She asked sitting down on her stool.

"Keith's been having some sort of stomach bug for almost a week or so now," Krolia said with a frown. "I thought it would have gone away in a few days but it seemed to get worse."

"It's probably just something I ate and my body didn't agree with it," Keith said with a sigh.

"And just how exactly has it gotten worse since it started?" Amelia asked jotting a few notes down on her notepad.

"There are certain smells that cause me to be nauseous," Keith said with a shudder. "And I've had to stop eating certain foods because they make me throw up as well."

"He also throws up in the mornings, it's been happening the last few days, which is why we decided to come in and see what was wrong," Krolia said looking worriedly towards her son.

"A good idea, it's better to know than to be left in the dark," Amelia said with a nod closing her notebook and turned to Krolia. "Have you had a chance to talk to him about the thing?" Krolia froze for a moment before shaking her head.

"What thing?" Keith asked looking between his mother and Amelia. He turned to Kolivan who just shrugged and shook his head, he was as much in the dark as Keith was.

"Have you ever heard of males becoming pregnant before Keith? Maybe in your health classes at school or just on the internet somewhere?" Amelia asked turning back to Keith.

"Yeah, they said it was extremely rare but not impossible," Keith said with a nod.

"That's right, some males are able to get pregnant," Amelia said standing up off her stool and leaning against the counter. "It's not in everyone but in some males, a certain gene is added to their DNA from either the maternal or paternal side of the family."

"Like a mutation?" Keith asked.

"Sort of," Amelia said with a shrug. "Can you get where I'm getting with this?"

"I think so?"

"I believe that you carry this gene from someone in your family," Amelia said turning to Krolia who nodded.

"I remember my great grandfather had the gene, and then we learned that my father had it so it's possible that Keith got the gene from them," Krolia said turning to Keith with a small smile.

"We can't be completely sure but what we do know is that Keith is showing signs that he's pregnant," Amelia said turning around and opening and cupboard behind her. Keith sat frozen on the bed, the word ringing throughout his head.

Pregnant.

"I know this is going to sound weird to you Keith," Amelia said turning back around with a pink box in her hand. "But just for test purposes, could you do this test for me please?"

"I-I guess so," Keith said with a nod. He climbed off the bed and taking the box in his hands.

"There's a bathroom right next door," Amelia said pointing to the room beside them.

"So for this test what you're gonna do is urinate in this cup, use this eyedropper to drop a few drops into the test and then wait about 1-3 minutes," Amelia said handing him a cup and a disposable eyedropper. "Just dispose of the eyedropper and cup when you're finished and then come back when the test is done."

Keith nodded and headed out of the room and into the bathroom. He did as Doctor Amelia told him to set the test on the counter and waited.

And waited.

And waited.

And waited.

3 minutes was a long time to wait when your emotions are all over the place. Keith thought over what his mother and Doctor Amelia told him.

'Could I have the gene?' Keith thought. 'And what if I am pregnant, Lance is the only one I've ever done "it" with and we've broken up now.'

A few more minutes passed and Keith decided to head back, picking up the test in hand, he exited the bathroom and headed into the room again. Doctor Amelia turned to him with a smile from where she was chatting with his mother.

"Ah, there you are," Amelia said as Keith handed her the test and sat back down on the bed, his cheeks dusted a light pink. Doctor Amelia studied the test for a few moments before placing it down on the counter beside her. "As I thought, you are indeed pregnant."

"I am?" Keith asked with wide eyes.

"Yes, now I can see you're anxious about all this," Amelia said placing a gentle hand on his shoulder. "I've dealt with many cases of pregnant males over the years and I promise to help you through this."

"Thank you, your help means a lot, I've never gone through something like this," Keith said, he could feel his hands shaking.

"Not many males do, which is why it can be scary for their first time being pregnant," Amelia said with a smile. "Male pregnancy is not that much different than a females, so if you have any issues you can ask your mother or you can call me directly if you have any questions."

"Doctor Amelia has already given me her phone number so if you need to talk to her just ask me for her number," Krolia said with a smile. "We're here to help you, honey."

"Do you have anyone you'd like to tell? Perhaps a partner?" Amelia asked tilting her head in curiosity.

"No, we uh, we broke up a month and a half ago," Keith said with a shake of his head, a frowning making a home on his face.

"I'm sorry, I know breakups are hard," Amelia said rubbing her thumb on Keith's shoulder.

"My friends and my brother back in Cranston would probably like to know though," Keith said to which his mother nodded.

"Shiro is going to flip," Krolia said with a smile. "In a good way of course."

"How is Shiro doing by the way?" Amelia asked heading over to the counter and leaning against it, writing some notes down in Keith's chart.

"He's well, he has a fiancée now," Krolia said with a smile.

"Wow, good for him," Amelia said with a smile. "I'm glad he found someone."
