Just Listen
This is another shorter chapter. Please stop asking for chapters or telling me to write more fast. I'll write it at my own pace. On the other hand, thank-you SO MUCH for all the comments and reviews! They are always appreciated.
Saturday came without warning. I pulled myself out of bed and glanced at myself in the mirror. My hair was a mess. Normally, I would have put it into a ponytail or something. But today I just couldn't be bothered. Where had this sudden laziness come from? I thought to myself.
For those few minutes, I was completely out of it. But then I saw the poster on my dresser, big bold letters that said LAKEVIEW TALENT SHOW. I sighed. Oh right, I had to sing today. I heard the radio on downstairs. Instantly I thought of Owen, who had his own radio show on Sunday mornings. I had yet to tell him about the talent show. I wasn't sure if I should invite him or not. If I didn't, I would be sparing him the fright of his life. But he might get mad. I shuddered. I didn't like it when Owen was angry with me. Like that one time I left that club without telling him. On the other hand, Owen was my boyfriend, and he had a right to know about it.
I shook my head of all thoughts, deciding to think about it later, and shuffled down the stairs. My dad had a coffee in his hand, bobbing his head gently to the radio. My mom was sitting on a couch, reading the newspaper. They both looked up at me as I entered the room.
My mom beamed. "Did you have a good sleep? Are you excited?" I wasn't excited, but I was definitely nervous. The emotion must have shown in my eyes, because then she got up and said, "You're going to be great." She pointed towards the couch, indicating I should sit down. So I did.
My mom walked through the kitchen, and right out the front door. I was confused now. I looked towards my dad, but the newspaper must have been mighty interesting, because he didn't even look up. A few minutes later, she came back, a box in her hands. She carried it carefully and walked over to me, placing it in my lap.
"What is this?" I asked, examining it. It was a white box, with a red stripe down the side.
My mom smiled. "Just go ahead and open it."
I opened it slowly. Then I saw it. It was a t-shirt. It was amazing. But it wasn't just any t-shirt. It was a light material, unlike anything I had ever owned. It was a light blue, with a wavy pattern of a slightly darker shade of blue flowing gently down the side. I took it out of the box, gasping at how beautiful it really was. It was a v-neck shirt, but it didn't go down too low, which was something I always admired in a shirt. The length was perfect. My mom couldn't stop smiling. I got up and hugged her. I knew she wanted me to wear it that night.
"Thank-you so much," I whispered. It was times like these that I loved my mom beyond belief.
