The Looking Glass
Prologue
Mirror, mirror…
The sun had yet to make an appearance. In its place, rain quietly drizzled down rendering everything gray and muddy, seemingly decaying with time. The castle's inhabitants, quiet and subdued, were dwindling in numbers.
Everyday, someone was gone. Everyday, no one could remember who, much less why. The troubled king was growing weak.
The princess refused to let go of her precious looking glass.
Mirror, mirror…
She did not recognize her face, had not for a long time. Grey-blue eyes that were once bright appeared muted and weary, reflecting the weather. Long dark hair that once brought upon sparks of vanity needed the touch of a brush. Her unkempt appearance was not the reason for unfamiliarity.
Mirror, mirror…
Her already tense grip on the mirror tightened as it began to cloud and darken.
Mirror, mirror…
She thought of warmth. Warm colors. The color amber. Red.
Mirror, mirror…
A memory flickered through her mind, briefly.
Ka. Go. Me.
