This is my first story, so I would appreciate it if you gave tips to improve and suggestions for the story.
The Pyre
"Ogasawara Kame"!
Finally hearing my name called I stood up a bit straighter in my seat, this was a moment that would decide whether I would survive or not in this terrible world.
"Genin Corps"!
As soon as I heard those words my heart dropped, It didn't make sense. Why didn't I get chosen to be on a team? While I wasn't a top scorer or anything I did better than Ebisu and tied with Genma, it didn't make sense why I was about to be sent off in the meat grinder disguised as the Genin Corps.
When I was reborn, I graciously accepted the opportunity to be alive again after my shitty death, but after finding out I was in the Narutoverse, I regret praising whoever sent me here.
If I was born to wealthy civilian parents in Iron Country, maybe I would have been happy, but I wasn't and was born to two mediocre shinobi, who got themselves killed on a random mission, in Konoha. To put the icing on the cake I was born in Kakashi's generation, the ones that had to go to war at 10. I had 10 years to prepare myself to survive a war that made Kakashi, an actual genius, lose an eye. For the cherry on top, orphans had pretty much no chance at escaping poverty except shinobi school, no doubt at that being an intentional way to get a steady supply of Ninjas by the Hokage.
So my only option was to start preparing as soon as possible for all the stuff that happens in Naruto, with my only advantage being that my parents were both Ninjas as that gave me a slight boost in reserves, nothing compared to a clan kid, but still beating civilians by a good bit.
'My life truly is a tragedy, who am I, Kaneki' My attempt at raising me out of my self-deprecating mood failed and left me more cynical than usual.
Thing is, I worked hard to beat Ebisu and Genma cause I knew that they would get on teams in canon, but despite beating them in overall final scores I lost to them in connections. I realized too late that Ebisu has connections with the Sarutobi family 'probably how he got the trainer position for Konohamaru'; so it was just between me and Genma, and I drew the short end of the stick.
Sighing, I collected my forehead protector and walked out of class and back home. I have 3 months before I get deployed to the field, so 3 months to find a way not to get killed. I'll check out the Genin section of the Ninja Library, but I doubt I'll find something useful.
Making it home to the orphanage, I said hi to the director and made it to my room(I worked hard to build enough rep with the staff to get one on these puppies). Thinking of a plan to somehow survive didn't work at all, I liked to think I was smart, but I knew I wasn't Shikamaru smart.
So with that out, I turned to the next best option... Cheating! More specifically copying from other anime's. I've been doing that whole move your energy around your body thing with chakra and I'm pretty sure it worked, so it can't hurt to try others.
I saved up money to buy chakra paper from a shinobi store a couple of months ago, so I knew I had a fire affinity; the thing is barely anyone in anime uses fire outside of fire force and I didn't watch that. So who do I have left to copy from... Roy? Nah, he's cool and all but he doesn't have anything a justu can't do. Who else... damn, my memories are failing me.
Alright, that was a dud, but are there any techniques that would work, maybe try and copy the Raikage's Lightning Cloak, but that probably took years and the best I can do now is set a leaf on fire. Ok, the best thing I've got is to copy Asuma's Chakra Blade. I'll probably get a wakizashi or tanto tomorrow.
Next Day
Walking into Sanda-san's shop, I greet the old kunoichi and walk around looking for chakra blades. I found them in the front of the shop and immediately knew this trip was a waste; I was thinking I could get a katana instead but even a tanto was way out of my budget. Sighing as another disappointment came into my mind, the ninja training in the Genin Corps.
The training that they give you is meant to produce cannon fodder that will follow orders, so we'll only be learning a couple of basic Jutsu techniques(most of which I already knew from the academy library) and basic strategies. So basically if you want to survive you have to study outside of it or be really lucky, and I already know that my luck is shit, so only one option is left.
Walking out of the store and heading to the Library, I showed my genin ID and walked to the Ninjutsu Section. The best jutsu I would find in here was probably a low C-rank, but anything helped when you were desperate. Looking through the ninjutsu section for about 30 minutes the only good thing that was there were some chakra control techniques, the Body Flicker Jutsu, and the Flame Bullet Jutsu. I copied them(since you can't leave with the books).
Moving on to the Taijutsu Section all that was there were continuations of the basic style they taught in the academy. Not that I didn't copy a couple, because as I said, everything counts. It turns out they also didn't have a manual for learning kenjutsu so I was stuck with applying what we learned with kunais to an actual sword if I ended up getting a blade.
Now the Genjutsu Section is where l had the most success, as that had plenty of C-rank genjutsus that could end up being useful. Still sucks to have the most success in an area that I wasn't interested in due to the heavy time investment that is required to be decent at it
Leaving the Library with my haul of barely useful stuff, I started walking back home while wondering if any other things could help I was forgetting.
Making it back to the orphanage, I started on the chakra control exercises that I picked up at the Library. I started on them then realized I could already do them perfectly. "FUCK" I yelled. Sighing as I apologized to the director for yelling, I hate the way things are going right now because if this keeps happening, I'm gonna die in the first battle.
Moving on to the taijutsu techniques. The only one I could do the movements of was the Fire Country Fist which was pretty much the Academy style volume 2. It did remind me of Fire Bending from Avatar so that was something to look into tomorrow.
Genjutsu, I couldn't test due to you needing a human subject, but I'm going to assume I'll be fine as the genjutsu that I brought seemed to be around the same as ones I had already cast.
Heading to bed after finishing up my training, I wondered how I'm going to survive in this terrible world with these shitty resources.
AN: Thanks for reading the first chapter of my first story. If you see any issues or have any ideas for the story leave a review and I'll fix it.
