Why me? was the first thought that fluttered into her head. Why should she, the Governor's daughter, engaged to none other than Mr. William Turner, be the hopeless crush of a rogue pirate? They did not, as Jack had stated so bluntly, have anything in common. For God's sake, she was a sophisticated lady! He was nothing but a drunken, dirty scoundrel who lived for the sake of his ship. They were practically a different species.
…And yet, she thought suddenly, he did not care about that. And why should he? He was a pirate, after all. Thoughts of money, class and social standards were not important to him. He saw her for her—not the governor's daughter, but just Elizabeth. At home nobody saw her as person, just the offspring of a wealthy man. Just a pretty porcelain who stood beside her father like good girl. But he, he saw her for what she really was…just Elizabeth. Just a snooty, hot tempered wench who wanted her own way. And still he loved her.
Now their faces practically touched, the burning sensation on her cheek feeling quite unfamiliar. It had not been like this with Will…there was not such passion and desire. With Will, it was only a kiss. Just a kiss, nothing more. But this…this was something. It was so strange, but felt so wonderful as Jack's lips met hers, his tongue slipping gently into her mouth and exploring its surroundings. With Will there had been no tongue.
"Oh," she whispered gently, as they broke apart. She opened her eyes. Before her was Jack Sparrow, the stupidest grin upon his face.
"Told you, luv. I knew you'd give in."
She grabbed his hand, and he gave it a tight squeeze. Her eyes bore into his.
"Pirates don't fall in love." Her voice was weak.
He turned from her, his eyes falling upon the ocean. Bright platinum rays kissed the dark blue waters. "No," he stated flatly, "I suppose they don't, Miss Swann."
She blinked, and her heart sank. Staring stupidly at his backside she replied, "Right. Good day, Jack…"
She made to turn away, but suddenly something grabbed her. She turned to see Jack, who had her arm firmly gripped in his strong hand. The expression on his face was almost serious.
"You didn't let me finish, luv. Pirates don't fall in love, but sparrows sure do."
And for the second time, their lips met.
