Ch12 Humans Are Such Easy Prey Pt.2
"Wake up! Wake up! Wake the fuck up already!"
Fenrir saw fire and woke up to the roar of flame. The trees were torches around him. Theodore was shaking him; Richard cleaved a creeper in half before a nevermore as large as him raked at his head, raising his dome shield. Barbara stood on quivering legs, tears running gown her face, paralyzed by dread. She sobbed to herself in hyperventilated breaths.
"They can't be bargained with; they can't be reasoned with! They don't feel pity or remorse or fear! And they absolutely will not stop. Ever! Until we are dead!"
An Alpha Beowolf appeared from the blaze, bone plated at the chest and spiked down the back. Theodore stood and rushed the beast, grabbing its arm mid swing and punched with clawed fist at its exposed belly before driving the knives through the skull under the jaw. Richard sliced at a group of Creepers and smaller Beowolves, cutting down three before two more beasts rushed him, he raised his shield in defense. Barbara fired three shots that missed the Boarbatusk that rushed her. She leaped backwards, slamming her back into a tree. No matter how hard Fenrir tried to control the beasts around them, they would not listen to his thoughts. Theodore bashed away at one Beowolf and kicked a creeper into a spinning Boarbatusk; the creature blinded by its fellow's blood was shot to death by the bears guns.
"Fen!"
Another Alpha tackled him to the ground. The monster snapped its jaws at his head. Theo grabbed them and struggled to keep them open.
"Help me!" Fenrir Dashed at the attacker with jet speed, swords held out front. The beast impaled on was the blades, it's slayer rolling with the body into another lunge. He kicked midair at the Boarbatusk spinning towards Barbara, pressurized air condensed under his sole. The pig flew sideways at pack of 15 Beowolves, the weakest of the group were torn to red and black ribbons. Fenrir glided to the golden globe of Richard. Beowolves and Creepers slammed themselves against it. The wolf air blasted them into the burning brush, firing arrows to catch their trail. Those that were able to make their mark, pieced the monsters to flaming trees.
"We need to run, now! Follow me!" Fenrir began running north, his comrades following quickly behind him. The creatures of Grimm made sure to follow even quicker. They ran through crimson oaks of fire that gave way to few green leaves, soon to be turned to cinders. Theodore took the rear of the group, firing wrist rifles at the Grimm behind him. He tried his best to shoot in bursts and conserve ammo. Richard and Fenrir ran in the middle, Fenrir shot at whatever being he sensed, bending arrows in the wind to make their marks in wide arches. Barbara raced at the front, moving further and further with each leap. She made it to a clearing, walled to the right by old ruins. A Major Ursa, jumped out the trees to the left, blocking the exit. Barbara skidded to a stop.
As the massive beast swung its paw at her, she became encased in the familiar yellow bubble of her compatriot. Theodore Darted at the beast, uppercutting with his shotgun in his right, turning and shooting his left to elbow it away. It landed on its spikes in harsh cracks, rolling on its side. Fenrir flew down at it from above, slashing wildly at his exposed stomach. As he finished it off, Barbara sat frozen in fear. It was the attack on Vale all over again. She muttered to herself repeatedly.
"I don't want to die. I don't want to die. I don't want to die!" Theodore grabbed her shoulders firmly as she shook and dropped her guns.
"Barbara! Listen to me. I know you're scared, but you came to be a Huntress, right? To show your strength? Now's the time to be strong! We need your strength, and we'll give you ours." He put a pistol in her hand as she breathed and held tightly, running her thumb along the grip.
"We need to keep moving. There's no need to fight these things. We just need to get to the other side and out of the frying pan." Fenrir returned, a sword held forward and another in a backwards grip, at the ready.
"Afraid we're already in the fire!" Richard pointed at the galloping tide of Grimm at their heels. They poured onto the clearing's opening. Creepers burrowed underground and popped out the other side.
"Then its like Ozpin said. Don't hesitate to obliterate everything on our path." Barbara cocked her guns and ran at the Creepers at the path. She jumped on the back of one and leaped with all her strength. The creature was crushed under the force of her foot. She shot down mid air in a twist, clearing out the Creepers.
"Don't stand there, move!" Barbara started running again, slow enough so they all ran together. As they went further, more and more ruins started to pop up. They were going down a brick road when a shadow covered the light. Fire rained down in front of them, blanketing the road in a bed of flame. Fenrir rushed ahead and blew back the blaze as best he could, clearing the path. The figure in the sky looked down below, Fenrir could feel it's amusement. They kept running. Through the fire, the Grimm, through their own fears. The woodland gave was to the circular structure, containing the relics.
"The relics! We can grab them and get out of here." Richard exclaimed.
"Fuck the relics! Let's keep moving." Fenrir ran past him along with the others. Richard quickly snagged a black queen piece and caught up. They could see towers in front of a cliff. Their hearts flew with little relief at the sight. The trees turned to torches behind them. As they got closer to the ruins, Fenrir stopped and held them back.
"Bloody hell are you stopping for?" Barbara looked down and her eyes widened in realization. The bridge connecting to the ruins had been destroyed. The drop below seemed to have no end; a misty fog laid at the bottom. The shadow flew over them and landed on the tower in front of them. The dragon looked down at them with raging red eyes, roaring at its prey beneath it. Grimm came for them from the burning forest. Theo and Barb started shooting at the horde. As they got closer, Fenrir focused all his thoughts into one command to the Grimm.
"Stop!"
