Ch14 Your Name's in The Sky

Ozpin clasped his fist tightly as he watched through the remaining cameras. The students he sent out to those woods cornered and dragged away by a flying beast. The Emerald Forest left to cinders. He watched Glynda to his right, calling on any resources she can. He had spent years sending children to fight monsters, but in that time, he had figured out ways to avoid casualties this early. He had cultivated the forest for years, driving out the stronger Grimm, fixing old ruins to be traversable, and yet this happened. Another incident at initiation. Another Gretchen.
Yet as Ozpin hung his head in solace, outside his window, high in the clouds, the dragon soared above Vale. It roared as its unwanted passengers continued to fight. Theodore hung on the creature's tail spikes. Tendons and bones ached in his white-knuckle grip. Richard was in much the same position. Blade half way embedded at the skulls base. Barbara was the most mobile among them. Jumping from wing to wing and using her chained guns to swing around its neck, firing shots where she can.
Fenrir could barely catch up. Balls of pressurized air boosted him forward from his fists and feet but keeping himself airborne this long was beginning to take its toll. He needed to grab hold of it fast or else he was going to fall. The sky was littered with clouds painted in the various blues, yellows and pinks of the afternoon sun. Theo began to climb along its spine, punching his wrist blades against the plated back, looking for a chink in its armor.
Barbara swung from its left shoulder left shoulder to its right, sinking a kukri in it exposed flesh. She wrapped the chain around her left forearm and shot at the side of its neck. The creature recoiled, rocking its long neck side to side before flying upward. In that time Theodore had climbed to the base of its spine. Richard fell from its head and landed next to his fellow passenger, hooking his axe into its right shoulder blade before shielding them both. Barb hung on from one chain as she sliced wildly at the base its right wing.
The dragon climbed higher, eclipsing the afternoon sun before curling into a sphere and letting gravity bring it down. Fenrir watched as the beast fell past him. He stopped flying and started falling. The pull of Remnant bringing him closer and closer. The monster opened its burning eyes as a fire sparked in its maw, as it unfurled its wings. Fenrir ran along its belly, dragging his blades down with him. It roared a wall of flame at him.
Fenrir notched an explosive arrow, keeping his palm open in his bow grip as he air blasted a path for his shot. The arrow made its mark at the roof of its jaw and the dragon recoiled its neck back. Fen ran under its armpit and air blasted it right side up. His companions still hanging on by the skin of their teeth.
Theodore had found a weak spot and pounded away at the wound with one fist. Barb and Richard had hooked themselves in for the ride. Fenrir continued to run along the fingers of its wings, cutting through the membrane, jumping off at the wings tip. He shot arrows at its underside in his decent.
The Dragon dived down at the wolf, Jaws wide, wings folded back. The wind rushed against its scaled back. The force of the air bringing Theodore upwards. With one hand used for attack and the other to hold him down, he had lost his grip. Rolling along the dragon's spine he tumbled when he touched sky. Spinning and twirling, he was screaming at the cloud filled void.
Fenrir could see the shape in the distance. He rolled into a dive and glided into a boost, arching towards his falling friend. Fenrir crashed into Theodore, holding on tightly, and creating a sphere to hold them in place.
"God! Fuck! Shit, I don't want to do that again!" Theo breathed franticly. His pulse racing as he gazed at the immense height they were at.
"Hey! Hey, hey. Don't be afraid of heights. Cause I'll catch you every time, okay?" Fenrir smiled at him; sincerity heard in every syllable.
"Okay. Just don't let go."
"Afraid I'm going to have to let go. We need to take that thing down any way possible and you're really weighing us down."
"Great! You got a plan in case we all fall to our deaths?"
"That is the plan. Grab hold of it and never let go."
"Wait, wait, wait. You son of a bitch!"
Fenrir spun them around and launched him back down at the dragon in blistering speed. He fell in a flat track, positioning himself above it as it pulled back up. Theo dived down with outstretched claws, landing with a thud next to Richard.
"Hello again. Sorry about earlier. I couldn't hold my shield up any longer."
"What?"
Fenrir heard the low roar of thunder and gazed ahead. Vale sitting right above the planet's equator, has frequent storms and rain showers throughout the year. And there was one right in front of them. He flew down and built as much pressure in his palm as he could before blowing the dragon into the grey clouds. Flashes of lighting lit silhouettes framed in furious battle. In the storm, Theodore had torn through armor and flesh leaving a large gash. Richard shielded them as it breathed fire. Barbara successfully put enough holes in its wing to make it fall. Fenrir cut down in a tornado spin with hurricane force down the base of its neck, tearing through the dragon's tendon and bone. Lightning struck its tail as they fell to the kingdom bellow.
Author's notes: Hey. Sorry for the wait. This chapter was, and will remain, a doozie. It can be better, but life stresses kind of made me just want to push through this one. I thought of another action scene after this, but I need to slow down. There are only so many ways to describe so many things. Anyway, hope you did enjoy. Next chapter ought to be out earlier than this one. Let me know what you think. I love reading comments. And hope you're all doing well.
A2: Also if you like Dragons Dogma, Just Cause, or RWBY Grimm Eclipse, big inspo for these last few chapters.
