Chapter 11
Dreams Dreams Dreams Dreams
David's thoughts swirled and rushed. One moment he was surrounded by warmth and the scent of apples; the next he was filled with adrenaline.
His heart pounding and muscles flexing. The smell of iron filled his nostrils while loud clangs filled his ears. A sword weighing heavily in his hand; he swings. He looks down; a child wrapped in his embrace. He deflects with his sword. Then he feels a sharp slice across his arm, as he spins on his heels. His breath suddenly gets taken away, as he felt his knees become weak and his energy drained. A sword impaled from behind. He drops to his knees.
He looks down again. His arm wrapped around a woman holding a newborn. The scent of apples returning. She smiles up towards him, her pearly whites twinkling with her eyes. His body suddenly feeling overwhelmed with warmth and love. The feeling suddenly changes again.
Fear for his life, fear for his child and fear for his wife. Again he's fighting; he's exhausted and drained with the overwhelming sense of living a lie.
Then she's there in the distance. Small figured, dark locks. He can't see her face; only feel warmth and love radiating. He reaches out, only to slip further back into the darkness. He's drowning; air unable to escape from his lungs. His heart pounds in response and his mind panics. He screams as loud as he can, but no one can hear him. The silence takes over.
David's monitor started to beep, as Henry read his story book to his father. His heart rate skyrocketing to the roof and oxygen SAT's tanking. Regina rushed in behind the nurses. "what happened!?" She asked frantically.
"I was just reading and then." Henry tried to explain, the fear in his voice evident.
Regina reached for David's hand; squeezing it reassuringly, while the nurses and doctors worked around them. She whispered words of encouragement; then suddenly the noise stopped. His heart rate and oxygen saturation began to stabilise.
Regina's eyes narrowed towards Henry and his book. "That will be enough reading today I would think!" she said sharply.
"You're just afraid of him knowing the truth!" Henry spat.
Regina sighed heavily, as she pinched the bridge of her nose. Honestly she spoke. "Can you not see that I am suffering enough with all this going on. Please let this rest." She begged.
Henry went silent.
"Pack your things." She gestured with a hand wave. "I've organised with Emma for you to stay with her for the next couple of days."
"Really?"
"Yes. I thought you'd be more excited."
"I am. It's just..."
Regina knelt down to her sons level. "You need to be looked after. I might not like Miss Swan but I know she'd do you no harm. And I need to focus on your father. You might think me Evil Henry, but I'm still human."
Henry nodded his head in agreement. He wasn't arguing. To Regina's surprise, Henry lunged forward pulling her into a brief embrace. But as quick as it happened, was as quick as it went away. Regina emptily watched her son walk off to Miss Swan.
David saw the light so to speak. The familiar scent of apples returning. Red lips caressing his forehead. He could breathe, finally. His heart settled as he felt himself wrapped around by a blanket of warmth. Familiar skin cradling his.
