Chapter 12
Sleep
"What should we name him?" David asked, as he looked down towards his newborn son.
"Henry. After my father." Regina confirmed.
David smiled. "Henry sounds wonderful."
For David it was love at first sight. Her hands clasped around his as, she relaxed into the warmth of his torso...
The long haired queen, now suddenly loomed over him, as he fell to his knees. Cackling in victory, the words echoed through his head. "I will destroy your happy ending if it's the last thing I do!"
But his child was safe, for that he was content. If he was to die, he could die in peace with that knowledge.
Regina watched over David like a Hawke. She had almost set up her own office into his room. Henry had stayed at Emma's more and more often. She wasn't thrilled at the idea; however, David needed her attention.
She found herself sleeping beside David, her back going crook from the uncomfortable recliner next to his bed. Those chairs weren't intended for long term stay.
Every day she stayed; she questioned herself on why? She found herself overly attached to the prince. Again, she was sure; if he woke up with all his memories intact, a sword would quickly be placed to her throat. She shuddered at the thought reminding her of her dreams.
She's tied up to her now withering tree. The towns folk surround her; all eyes accusing. They know who she is; he knows who she is. Snow is wrapped in his arms. "You took away my love! Now I will end you!" You'd think it's Snows words, but it's not. David spits the venom. He grabs the sword that Henry cradled; she recognised it well. In a swift motion he brought it to her throat. In the dream she pleads. He doesn't listen. Without hesitation, he swings the blade and she wakes up.
One of these days the Mayor believes or prays that she won't wake up.
Regina's heart stopped at the call. "What do you mean Henry is?...why on earth is he even in the old mines? To prove to Doctor... you've got to be kidding me! "" How the hell did this happen Miss Swan!" "I knew I couldn't trust... Dammit Henry!"
Regina ended the call. She looked down towards the sleeping prince with narrow eyes. "He gets this from you. You know?" She declared with a sigh.
Regina swiftly made her way down to the old mines; where she met Emma. There was a rescue operation in motion. She'd rather be hoisted down herself to get to Henry, but Emma convinced her otherwise. No matter how much she despised Miss Swan, Emma was right. Regina spent the last 28 years behind a desk; the saviour, ironically was more suited to the role of rescuing Henry. "Just get him back to me!" She said with a approving nod. He's all I have. She thought to herself.
Like her title suggested; Emma rescued both Doctor Hopper and most importantly Henry. She was infuriated by her sons reckless behaviour; but mostly relieved by his safety.
She pulled him into her embrace; for once he didn't reject it. But he was quick to run back into Emma's arms. Much to Regina's disgust. She waved Emma off; ordering her to secure the scene, now that she was the sherif after Graham's tragic demise. (She had no choice. His interaction with the saviour was making him aware. She couldn't risk her curse breaking. He became a casualty. Dirty work always had casualties. She crushed his heart with only a slight touch of remorse).
She herself done her own investigation around the scene. 'What was Henry searching for?' Then the glimmer on the ground clued her in. Her brows raised. A shard of glass?
She bent down picking up the glittering object. It had been no ordinary piece of broken glass. She recognised it from the coffin the dwarves made the sleeping Snow White. The thought of her failure and Snows awakening from her sleeping state, made her feel sick to the core.
Regina discarded the piece down the shaft; to where it would never see the light of day again.
