POV: Death

"You did too!"

"I did not!"

Oh yes. Where were we? I think we went a bit too forward... let me start from the beginning.

[The Beginning]

It was just a cloudy day in Himmel Street, and all was normal... or so it seemed. It was a normal day until an unexpected bomb hit Himmel Street. There weren't much survivors.

[A Small Fact]

Liesel and Rudy will both eventually die.

But not today.

Sure, they were both severely injured, but they didn't die. The Mayor and his wife took Liesel to their house for care.

[Another Small Fact]

Liesel protested.

She kicked. She cried. She stayed rooted to the spot.

Just so she could convince them so Rudy could tag along.

They wouldn't budge.

[Yet Another Small Fact]

Liesel cared for Rudy.

Liesel loved Rudy.

Rudy just didn't know that. Not yet.

Liesel didn't know it either.

So they wouldn't budge, and Rudy didn't come along. He was taken into care at another hospital somewhere far away. "Write to me, Saumensch, will you?" He asked before he left. "Sure, Saukerl. I'll miss you." Liesel smiled a rough smile. Her face ached, but she smiled. She would smile for Rudy. "Well, see you later, Saumensch." Rudy returned the smile and climbed aboard. Liesel waved until she couldn't anymore. Then she made her way to the mayor's house without saying anything. The moment she got there, she went into the library and picked a book specialized for writing letters. Her first letter went like this:

Hey Saukerl,

How are you? Are your wounds getting better? I just got here, home, but I bet it'll be a while before I send this. So, how are you? Have you got friends there? Any girls? I don't know why I'm asking this all. Anyways, write to me soon.

I miss you a lot.

Liesel

She didn't mail it just yet. She didn't know Rudy's address, did she? It'll be easier to just wait until Rudy writes his first letter, and then mail it...

[A Heartbreaking Fact]

Rudy never wrote.

Perhaps he was waiting for Liesel to write her first letter. The thought of her not having his address maybe hadn't occurred to him yet. What he didn't know was that Liesel would get butterflies in her stomach every time she went to get the mail, in case one of them was from Rudy. It never was. Liesel tried hundreds of ways to get her mails delivered. She asked the mayor. She asked the lady and the man, who had came to get Rudy, when they came for a visit. She talked to the survivors. She researched. She tried every possible way to get her letter, but she couldn't. She was tried of waiting. This wasn't Rudy she grew up knowing. Every time another set of mails turned her down, she tried to make excuses of why Rudy wasn't writing. Maybe he still hadn't recovered. Maybe he hadn't made it. No... it couldn't be. The lady and the man, at their rare visits, showed a picture of Rudy in the hospital and they even told her he was all right. She shook that thought off her mind.

Rudy's absence had led to a lot of sleepless nights. The absence of her best friend was enough to make her heart ache. He couldn't have forgotten her... could he? "I bet there are a lot of pretty girls at there..." she would wonder aloud, usually after the mails.
