In the Absence of the Sandman
When at night, Sendoh couldn't seem to grasp that one thing little children hold in their hearts so they could have sweet dreams, all he has to do was to create an image of a young man with a chiseled face, raven-tinted hair, fiery eyes the color of the deep end of the ocean, and lips as red as freshly plucked cherries.
He would name the beautiful man 'Rukawa', and talk to him under an imaginary oak tree in an imaginary playground, with imaginary kids making imaginary merry noises in the background. Rukawa wouldn't talk much, but he would listen; and listen well, he could. He would stay silent as Sendoh tells him how his day went, and how the sky is so pretty today, especially when it is reflected on Rukawa's eyes, and how the clouds looked like cotton candy waiting to be plucked, and how he wished the little kids were theirs.
Rukawa would send him a mean glare after that last remark, and he would just laugh. Sendoh wouldn't mind if Rukawa would lean slightly on his shoulder. He'd shut up then, and listen to Rukawa's breathing, which is, as far as Sendoh is concerned, as soft and soothing as the kiss of the pre-autumn breeze on a sunny afternoon. He'd fall asleep then, and the last thing Sendoh would think about is that he hoped the real Rukawa would pay even half the attention his imaginary Rukawa gives him when he wakes up in the morning.
