Hi, so here is another chapter and I hope you enjoy this, there is one more chapter before Bella wakes up and we hit the second half of Breaking Dawn. This chapter is for Rosalie and Carlisle and the relationship which again is never explored much. I always thought that Rosalie out of all of the Cullens was the one who had the most complex relationship with her vampire mother and father because her real parents had a complex relationship with her. Weather it was the thing to do in the 1930s her parents basically pimped her out at the age of thirteen to a much older man. So this chapter is an ode to Carlisle who is in his own way one of the best father figures in fiction though that might be saying a lot.

Again skipped over the imprinting thing because looking back at it through older eyes it's just too wierd.

Disclaimer-Nothing here is mine.

Please Read and Review.

Self-Fulfilling Prophecy

Chapter 14-Melt My Heart To Stone

Edward fills in his family on what they missed. As Jacob steals Renesmee, Carlisle and Rosalie share a moment (Chapter takes place during Bella's transformation)

"Family quarrels are bitter things. They don't go according to any rules, They're not like aches or wounds, they're more like splits in the skin that won't heal because there is not enough material" F. Scott Fitzgerald.

Things went predicably fast from there.

Edward took the baby, then Jacob took the baby and then there was an explanation as to why Jacob had took the baby which had taken forty five minutes of shouting until everyone could understand just what and why a wolf imprinted (and Rosalie was still not sure she liked the idea of it all that much even though it wasn't as bad as Edward made it out to be when he first tried to explain it) and then there had been finally chance to cool down.

Bella was in the throes of her transformation, Edward in the throes of fatherhood and Rosalie was standing there coated in human blood the stench of it still echoing around the house with a dry burn in her throat that was getting worse with each passing second.

"Dog?"

"Blondie?"

Everyone looked at the two of them. Rosalie had to admit that this was civil for her and Jacob. At least no food was being thrown (and now that the immediate danger was over she was going to get the little mutt back for that one mark her words)

"Are we safe to hunt now. This little…whatever the hell is it does it mean we don't have to worry about a stampeding heard of wolves coming out of the woodwork?"

Okay so it was a mixture of mixed metaphors and insults but Rosalie was working on very little patience. Actually considering the events of the past sixteen hours alone it was little more of a miracle that she had been able to string that sentence together.

"I'd say so" Jacob said looking at her with eyes that seemed to scream at how old he was when really he was just sixteen years old. Rosalie knew the feeling only too well.

"I had Seth tell Embry in human form so that should be enough. Sam knows he can't move against an imprint and I don't think he was looking for a fight anyway. I don't know what it must have been like down there for the past couple of days but I can only imagine that it was bad. Council was divided, pack was divided. This way there's an ending to it"

Rosalie didn't really care for pack details. All she cared about was getting fed.

Now.

"You need to feed?" Carlisle asked at her side suddenly and Rosalie nodded. The burning was getting intense and the blood that was still coating upstairs didn't help. Edward had took the baby back up to Bella though she was still out of it and Alice had gone with him. Exactly as it was supposed to be she thought bitterly.

"Rose?" that was Emmett. He had come closer and then had ducked backwards and considering she was caked in blood and the danger was over she could not blame him. Jasper was on the cusp of feeling and Esme was already ripping up the carpet trying to get the stench out of the house before the very volatile newborn vampire woke up. Even the baby seemed effected by the smell. Renesmee was a half human half vampire child. Human blood had been her food for most of her life in the womb and she was clearly keen to continue on donated blood.

That much had been obvious when she had fed on her mother or at least tried to just after birth.

Others might think that was a warning.

Rosalie thought it was cute.

"Yes I need to feed" she said quietly and the burning was back so intense that she couldn't open her mouth anymore. Carlisle touched her once on her arm and she whirled around ready to take down the threat only to see her vampire father looking at her with such fatherly concern that she thought she was going to cry. She had never thought to see him look like that again, at least not at her. At Edward yes, at his precious Edward, at Alice and Jasper, even at Emmett but not at her. She had been under the impression that Carlisle had written her off as a lost cause when all of this began.

To be honest she had not really strived to be close to him before that. Her feelings about her human father were so complicated that it only complicated her feelings about her vampire one. She and Carlisle had never been close simply because she had never been able to accept what had been done to her. The choices that he had ripped from her as easily as the politicians were doing for woman now. He had not even considered what had meant so much for her during her transformation because why would he? When the option was still open for him, when children had never been a factor for him in his human life, in his human world.

And now she had chosen to take Bella's side of Edward's. Edward who had been the one who he'd had first. Edward the golden boy who could do no wrong. Edward who would still not admit that he had done wrong during this whole pregnancy even when he was clutching the baby to him with wounded fatherhood and love and pride and whatever else it was.

"Yes" she said again feeling almost…sluggish with emotion. "Yes I need to feed"

"Alright then" Carlisle said and his tone was impossibly gentle. "Okay then we can go together okay?"

"I can go with her Carlisle—"

"No Emmett I think it should just be Rosalie and me this time. I need you and Jasper to patrol the perimeter just in case something happens. And keep an eye on your brother, we have time but we don't have much. I need to make sure everyone here is okay when Bella wakes up."

There was more in this that she couldn't understand right now but if she was human she knew that her own weight wouldn't support her and that was a fear. She was cut to the very bone with exhaustion and there was no mechanism for her to sleep if off. She used to love sleeping when she was human. Crawling into a clean warm bed and dreaming of her Prince Charming and her Happy Ever After.

"Come on Rosalie" Carlisle said gently. The baby…Renesmee gave a soft little cry upstairs and she could hear Alice coo and that was all the motivation that she needed for her frozen limbs to work again and so she leapt of the house out of the window and was running before Carlisle could even think of joining her.

It was easy to leap over the river, easy to find and elk and then a heard of dear. Carlisle did not feed (why would he had had fed before he had received the phone call that had been the nightmare of baby Renesmee's birth) but he did heard a couple more of the deer towards her and Rosalie who was coated in human blood, dressed in something that had seen better days even before she went feeding, and who had not fed in what felt like months didn't bother to eat daintily. She ate like she was a newborn again and this was the best thing that she had ever tasted. Carlisle watched her from his position on a rock watching with concern as she devoured just about everything and anything in site.

Eventually the burn went away and Rosalie shoved the body away from her. She didn't dare look at her now though she suspected that the outfit she was wearing was beyond even Esme and Alice's magical talents and at that thought of Alice right now upstairs with her best friend and her brother and the baby that she hadn't even wanted being born she felt tears (or what once would have been tears) rise up within her.

Vampires couldn't cry. But they could make the sound of crying. It was dull, tearless sobs and they couldn't just cry on command, so much of their being was in being the swift, silent and deadly predator that they didn't need to cry. How could a monster feel sadness?

And besides Rosalie was a Hale and a hard lesson learnt at the back of her mother's hand was Hale's didn't cry. The world could be burning around them and Hale's didn't cry because crying for was poor people, unfortunates and people who just brought their misfortunes on themselves Rosalie.

But here she was. Crying.

Carlisle waited all of three seconds before he had crossed the little clearing and pulled her into his arms. Far from pushing him away—which was what her immediate response would be to anyone touching her but Emmett—she let him pull her close and she burrowed her head somewhere between his shirt and his jacket and she just cried.

"That's alright darling" Carlisle said into her hair rocking her back and forth as if she was a small child with a skinned knee. "It's alright, you let it out. You did brilliantly Rosalie, I should have had more faith, your faith. You did so well…"

"It doesn't matter" she sobbed finally. "Because now it can all go back to normal. Edward and Bella and Alice and there's me just shunted to the side and blamed and—" she cut herself off and Carlisle holding her stiffened a little.

"If Edward attempts to make light of the sacrifices that you have made so that his daughter could be born I will personally chuck him across the river" he growled and weather it was the growling or the words they made Rosalie laugh and she finally, finally stopped crying.

"And that" Carlisle said with something of a grin in his voice. "Will be nothing compared to what Emmett does to him"

She laughed again at that and Carlisle let her go a little moving so that he was sitting on the grass next to her.

"You alright now?" he asked and the concern on his face was enough for her to nearly start going again.

"Why are you looking at me like that? I thought you hated me for risking Bella's life?"

Carlisle's face fell a little.

"I fear, somewhere along the line I have let you and Emmett down" he said seriously. "For you have both asked me the same question. To answer what inevitably comes next Rosalie I do not hate you, I have not written you off as a lost cause, I have not stopped fighting for every scrap of affection you throw at me, because I am, I hope, the a father figure in your life. I accepted that with you it would be a different relationship than I have with the others but that was only because you had a different relationship with your father. And that was par for the course. I do not hate you for what you did. In fact even when we were facing Bella's death I found myself inexplicably proud of you"

If she had been shocked before it was nothing to how she was now.

"You were?"

"Deep down, yes. It takes a lot, especially in the unending pressure that Edward and Alice created—and yes I know about the environment that they have created for you and Emmett and Bella and we will be talking about that sometime soon believe me—I think it took a lot of nerve to stick to your believe. It could have gone very wrong. To be honest I don't think anyone gives you and Bella enough credit"

Rosalie smiled. It was nice to hear that from Carlisle, nice to know that underneath it all he did appreciate what she had done, that he had understood her need to protect the baby that had been growing inside Bella.

But there was one more thing.

"When I held the baby, when I thought Bella was dead I…

"I know"

"No you don't."

"I do. Do not insult my intelligence Rosalie I know, it was written all over your face, I think that only a parent would see it. And while Bella lay dying upstairs you were a parent, you were the only person little Renesmee saw for safety and security and comfort. She might never call you Momma but one thing I do think is that this latest little Cullen is smart and being as smart as she seems to be already she knows that. It's not the same I know but I often think of little moments like this as a gift. I've had them with each and every one of you over the years even though I've never been privy to the moniker. Doesn't mean I don't cherish them any less. And I know you might not want to hear this now but one day…I think one day you will understand it"

He was right Rosalie didn't want to hear this but she thought that one day she might understand it.

She might even look forward to it.

"Sorry I ruined your clothes"

"Ah darling don't worry about it, I've only had this shirt for six months in Alice's view that's enough for it to end in the bin. Now if your done I think we should get home, Emmett will be incredibly angsty and to be honest darling I think your clothes have seen better days. I think if we don't get you home soon we will either be arrested in connection with a horrible crime or arrested for indecency"

Rosalie laughed. Carlisle who was splattered too in human blood looked utterly sanguine with it all.

"I am very proud of you Rosalie" Carlisle said finally. "And I love you very much"

"Love you too…Dad."

It was the first time that she had ever said that and from the look on Carlisle's face he recognised it as well. His arm slid around her shoulders and she rested her head against the length of him and she felt him duck his chin into the mess of blonde, matted, blood soaked hair as if he didn't have a care in the world and she thought to herself that no real father would.

Carlisle was a real father. Her own was not.

And now she could admit it to herself.

They walked back to the house in comfortable silence.

She knew Carlisle understood.
