Hey Izuku, what do you think of this one? Video Attached
For the last few weeks, Hisashi had been sending videos of hero fights to his son, asking each time about the boy's thoughts. He really just wants Izuku's opinions on the quirks, but he couldn't ask about it directly. The kid is already pretty suspicious, and Hisashi just wants one Christmas that he could think of fondly. But Christmas is coming fast, and Hisashi is running out of time. Maybe it was time for a home visit.
While it was surprising to see his father for the first time in many years, at least it was a mildly pleasant surprise. Sure, seeing half the man's face gone was quite the shock, but he figured All Might didn't get injured by just anyone, and it was good to see they both put up a good fight. His mother did seem a bit put off, but she also seemed happy that he was here, even if for a moment.
Izuku didn't know what the man did during the week, since he still had to go to and stay at school despite this miraculous development in his home life. It didn't seem like his father would be leaving sooner than the next weekend, at least, so Izuku looked forward to visiting home, even if Aizawa was loath to let him do so again so soon.
So, he was expecting to see the tall man sitting somewhere in his home this time. What he was not prepared for was the blind man sitting in front of the running TV. Izuku threw a confused look at Hisashi after announcing his presence, then went to put his stuff back in his room for later. When he returned, the channel was still running commercials.
"What are you doing, dad?" Normally, Izuku would ask what he's watching, but given the circumstances, it didn't seem appropriate.
"I'm shopping." And ok, maybe that makes sense. He is listening to commercials right now. Izuku hummed in response and took a moment to go make some tea for them both, and came back. Setting the tea on the low table in front of them, Izuku took a seat beside his father on the couch and tuned in to what was showing.
When the program came back, Izuku could recognize it. He typically would watch it himself, but lately his father had been sending him clips and asking opinions about the fights. It was one of Izuku's favorite shows, and he was always ready to discuss heroes with someone, though he always held back a little with his father. He likes heroes. He doesn't want something happening.
It was nice. Izuku hadn't spent time with Hisashi in a long time, and taking those conversations done through text and putting them in the space between them now? It was a younger Izuku's dream come true. They were discussing Japanese heroes, and when they had exhausted the newest videos, they went looking for foreign heroes, like Salaam and Star And Stripe.
But something was nagging at the back of his brain. Something about it all was off.
"And what about his quirk? What do you think?" It hit him, suddenly. His father constantly asked about the quirks. It wouldn't have been so important, given who Hisashi was, but paired with the fact from earlier…
"When you said you were shopping… Are you looking for quirks?"
Silence rang between them, only the TV continuing its stream of hero fighting. Neither of the two looked at the other, resolutely watching, or facing the direction of, the TV. Then, Hisashi mumbled something Izuku couldn't quite make out.
"Hm, what was that?"
"I just wanted to give you a good Christmas," was the quiet repeat. To Izuku, it even sounded a bit like the man was actually pouting.
"What do you even mean by that? What does Christmas have to do with this?" Hisashi gave a heavy sigh before sitting up straighter than he had been (was it even possible?), turning to face his son.
"I've been asking you about different quirks so that I could get you one that you actually picked out yourself." The way it was said had Izuku squinting his eyes.
"You're upset about something." Izuku thought for a moment before realization hit him. "You're upset that I got a quirk from someone else! You know, you had fourteen years to offer me a quirk before him. You don't get to be jealous now." He grabbed the tea cups to take back to the kitchen. When he passed the living room again, he could see that the man seemed a bit deflated, but continued on to his own room to work on homework until dinner.
Dinner wasn't any more fun. Hisashi remained quiet, the tension between him and Izuku thick enough to be cut. Inko could tell something was wrong, but didn't say anything, wanting to let the two figure it out on their own first. She did, however, have them all spend time together watching a movie with ice cream for dessert.
As Izuku was heading to his room for the night after the movie, he turned to Hisashi.
"Christmas would be good as long as you come celebrate with us for once," he said lowly. He could see his father perk up at the news before he turned to retire for the night. Maybe he got through to him finally.

He did not take the hint.
