Chapter 209 Gogmagog
Sam breathed a huge sigh. The demons had slowed down to a dribble and now there had been no demons for half an hour. He turned to Joe.
"What's going on over there?"
Joe consulted his clipboard. "The spell is weakening. Gabriel feels it will break soon. The theory they are working with is that Lucifer is protecting his spell and is too busy to call demons to him."
"Well, none are getting through to him, he must know that."
"He would know but his own protection will come first. He must be too weak to come through or he would not be defending the gate."
"Does it say how Dean is doing?"
"It doesn't. How does it feel to you? Were you able to make a connection?"
Sam nodded. "I think so. I got a feeling he was okay but a deep tiredness. I tried the energy swap thing but I don't know how successful I was."
"You will probably not know until you see him again. Do you feel tired?"
"Well, yes but I'm working so it may be that."
"It would be worth continuing. Your normal connection is very strong. It should not be underestimated."
Sam nodded. "Thanks for that, Joe. What are the angels doing?"
"Gathering troops both here and in heaven."
"If there is a fight can we expect damage here?"
"It is unknown. It has never happened before. The probability is high"
"Can we do anything to help?"
"I will speak to Gabriel."
"Thank you."
The ground shook as the ten meter tall being stomped toward them. The giant wore Greek God type attire of a hard skirt, tunic with layers of looped material and a form of shielding over the tunic. He wore metal gauntlets without gloves over his forearms and a type of helm over the top of his long hair covering most of his face. His beard was unkempt and he wore no shoes over his rectangular block feet. He carried a bow over his back and a quiver of arrows and held a savage flail. He had fashioned a belt from pieces of leather which held small, in comparison to his body, weapons that he had clearly picked up in Purgatory. Together with the lightning and his wild appearance he was truly terrifying.
Dean pushed Cain back behind the rocks.
"Gogmagog." Dean repeated
"From a fable." Breathed Cain looking stunned. "I never knew it true."
"How did they kill it in that fable?" Dean asked.
"They drowned him in the sea. I don't think that's going to happen here."
They pushed the princes back just as the large boulders in front of them split up the middle. A large fist raised up and smashed again.
"Great gods!" Asmodeus cried. "That was just a fist. What is this creature?"
"Gogmagog." Cain shouted as they moved backwards away from the giant. "Any ideas how to kill this creature?"
"We should try our weapons. Maybe all at the same time. We just need to get it to stand still." Ramiel offered as they ran behind another boulder.
"What about its legs? They are the only bit without armor. I could slash the legs and get it to stand still and you guys attack at the same time." Dean suggested.
"Why you?" Cain asked.
"I'm the smallest and fastest. It will probably miss me."
They all agreed with that.
"Let's try before it crushes us to dust. At least the rain has stopped, hopefully that helps us. " Cain yelled as a boulder smashed like a cookie.
"Okay." Dean raised the sword and they charged around the rocks with him.
Dean went straight for the legs, sliding through like a runner sliding into home base. On the way past he slashed at one leg then the other.
The monster barely blinked as a shower of sparks was thrown off both legs. It swung towards Dean as the others attacked. It was quicker than it looked and used the flail to push them back. Dean ended up under the monster on his knees. "Don't shit on me whatever you do!" Dean yelled, drawing the demon knife for close up work. "We just need to sync up an ACDC track and we can go to work."
Dean slashed at the legs while the others tried to get past the swinging ball of spiked metal. Dean sat back on his haunches when the knife deflected off the legs. "Okay, think like Sam. Channel Sam. What do you think Sammy? He would love this. The armor will cover weak areas." Dean looked straight up into the darkness under the skirt of the monster. He took a quick look out and saw the others flinging spells at the Gogmagog, none to successfully.
"Oh, well, Sammy, here goes nothing." Dean took the Purgatory sword and thrust straight up hoping to hit something as he stood and followed the motion. To his surprise the sword ripped through hard flesh and hit bone. The monster howled as Dean pulled the sword out getting bathed in a torrent of blood. Gogmagog stepped back and away from Dean, quickly taking a club from his belt and swatting Dean away even as he kept the flail circling for protection. Dean landed against a tree with a thump, head first.
The group backed off pulling Dean away with them behind another boulder. Dean was still conscious but a bit loopy.
"Stay still while I heal you, Dean." Cain growled.
"It's not my blood." Dean laughed. He looked a sight.
Cain touched Dean's shoulder. "That club had some wicked spikes, this blood is yours." Cain healed Dean's shoulder and his concussion.
"Let us regroup." Asmodeus spoke up. "The spells and blades didn't penetrate the armor."
"We need to get the armor off, at least some of it." Dean agreed.
"The helm would be easiest to attack." Ramiel suggested. "It is not tied down."
"So we put all our effort into attacking the head." Cain was skeptical. "What's it doing?"
"Trying to fix himself. Maybe the grace in the sword is giving him trouble." Ramiel was keeping point while they regrouped.
Dean thought for a minute. "Just thinking out loud fellas. He probably has protection against the supernatural. If we can use something he's not protected against, say a rock with some grace followed up with the hellfire."
"You're kidding, right?" Cain frowned. "That's your wildest idea yet. It's supernatural, it can only be killed by the supernatural."
"Well, I injured it."
"And have a deep connection to the supernatural."
"Not that deep." Dean muttered.
Ramiel handed Dean a rock. "Let's try."
"Okay." Dean loaded the launcher and took the rock. He applied the same actions as previously used at the wall pushing grace into the rock. He was pretty sure that was all he had so he had to make it count.
The group approached the weakened, still bleeding monster to give Dean cover as he looked for the best place to throw from. He decided to aim for his chin as most of the rest of the head was covered and it might knock the helmet off. He waited until it faced him looking at Ramiel, who was lunging with his pike, then threw hard and fast. The rock hit Gogmagog on the tip of the chin and he threw his head back so fast the helm flew off. Dean brought the launcher up but then lowered it. To everyone's surprise Gogmagog fell backwards and landed on the flat of his back. They ran to the downed monster in time to see him give a last breath and turn to ash.
"Well, that worked."
