The next morning Wendy woke up excited for her date with Kenny. It would be the first time she'd gone ice skating this winter. She spent the whole morning getting ready.

She wanted to make sure every last detail of her outfit and hair were perfect. She decided to wear her hair in its natural state, Kenny seemed to like her wavy hair.

After Wendy was done getting ready she gleefully went downstairs to wait for Kenny to pick her up. Today was a perfect day for ice skating, the sun was shining and the snow was a brilliant sparkling white.

She grabbed her skates from the closet. They were scuffed to all hell but she loved them just the same. They were the most comfortable pair of skates she'd ever owned.

"Wendy, where are you going today?" Her dad asked, suddenly making her stop in her tracks. She still hadn't told him or her mom that they were dating. She worried her dad would be upset finding out she was dating the guy who tried to get her to sneak out once.

"I'm going ice skating." She replied, closing the closet.

"Oh, with your friends?" He asked her.

"Actually I'm going with Kenny." She replied.

Her dad crossed his arms, "That boy you tried to sneak out with?" He frowned.

"He's not all bad, dad. Kenny is actually a really sweet guy." She insisted.

Her dad just sighed, "Wendy I don't want you getting into trouble."

"I'm not going to dad."

"You've been doing really good, Wendy. I'm just looking out for you." He pulled her close and kissed her on her head.

"I know dad." She smiled up at him. "Kenny is a really sweet guy though. I think you'd like him if you got to know him."

"I trust your judgment, Wendy. Why don't you invite Kenny over for dinner tonight? I'd like to get to know him more since you seem so fond of him. We could play board games after, you know you can tell a lot about a person character based on how they play The Game of Life."

Wendy laughed, "Kenny's already been over for dinner twice. That wasn't enough to get to know him?" She asked.

"Well things are different now, don't you think?" He asked her.

"How so?" She asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Wendy I overheard your conversation with Red, it's hard to ignore the excited squealing of a teenage girl on the phone. Aren't you and Kenny dating now?" He asked.

"Oh god, I wanted to tell you." She felt nervous. Since her dad hadn't said anything else, she figured she was in the clear- at least for now.

"Well, I'd really like to talk to him now that he's your boyfriend." He said, "Maybe he won't throw up at dinner this time."

Wendy just shook her head. She dreaded the thoughts of bringing Kenny home now. Stan and her dad never got along, she hoped Kenny and him would. At least for her sake.

Her phone buzzed in her pocket, it was Kenny telling her he was outside. "Okay dad, I gotta go." She waved goodbye to him and tried not to think of what her dad was going to say to Kenny tonight.

When she got into Kenny's truck he just stared at her, "Wow, you look so hot today." He said to her, his eyes raking over her.

She felt herself blush, "You don't look too bad yourself." She replied.

Kenny leaned over for a kiss but she pushed him back, feeling like her dad was watching from the window.

"What's wrong?" Kenny asked, pulling back.

She sighed, "Sorry it's just my dad. He knows we're dating now, I feel like he's watching us from the window."

Kenny looked behind her at her house, "We better get out of here then." He shifted his car into gear and started driving down the street.

"Do you want to come over for dinner tonight?" She asked him, "My dad said he wanted to talk to you now that we're dating. I know, I know, it's going to be awkward as hell and terrible. I'm sorry I just don't know what to do like it's my dad-"

"It's fine Wendy. I'm sure he's just looking out for you. Besides I can't say I haven't been a slightly bad influence on you." Kenny chuckled.

Wendy just looked down, "I know I'm just sorry. God, I wish he wasn't so overprotective."

Kenny shrugged, "It's no big deal." He insisted, "Besides, your mom's cooking is amazing." He reached over and rested a hand on her thigh, "It'll all be okay."

Wendy just smiled at him.

Once they got to the ice skating rink, Kenny rented a pair of skates, and they sat down on a bench to do them up. The skating rink was filled with people, Wendy wasn't surprised it was the perfect day for it.

After she did up her skates she stood on the snow and extended her hand to Kenny. "Are you ready to go?" She asked smiling widely. Kenny took her hand and she led him out to the ice.

"Wendy, I'm a little worried," Kenny admitted as he stood at the edge of the frozen pond.

"Come on, you're from South Park! It's totally in your blood to ice skate." She insisted, "Here watch this."

She let go of his hand and pushed herself out into the ice. She began to skate; it felt perfect. Wendy skated backward, spinning around. She was definitely showing off, she could feel over people watching her too. She'd always been a natural at skating and in South Park, there wasn't much else to do outside because it was so cold all the time.

When she made her way back around to where Kenny was she stopped and grinned. Kenny stared at her in awe.

"Holy fuck, you're like an angel on the ice." His mouth was agape, Wendy just laughed at him.

"Now let's get you out here, silly." She reached out for his hands and pulled him onto the ice with her. She could feel his legs shake the second he stood on the ice.

"Come on, I'll help you." She said, holding onto his hands tightly. She skated backward in front of him and he followed, slow and shaky.

"Wow, I'm actually kind of doing it." Kenny looked up at her and grinned.

He suddenly lost his balance and fell backward, bringing Wendy down with him. She fell on top of him and laughed. "Are you okay?" She asked as she laid on top of him, "I feel like I might've just crushed you."

"You can crush me any day." Kenny replied, sneaking in a quick kiss.

Wendy helped him up and the pair began skating again. "The secret is to bend your knees." She let go of his hands and skated in front of him to show him. "Look if my legs are straight my whole center of balance is off, but when my knees are bent..." she spun around and skated back to him.

"You make it look like a cakewalk." He muttered, Wendy just giggled.

"You're getting there. I'll help you." She smiled and they began skating again.

After a few times around the rink, Wendy thought Kenny was starting to get the hang of it. He was starting to feel more confident and began taking bigger strides while they skated around the rink. Wendy enjoyed having her fingers intertwined with his.

After awhile Kenny asked her if she would show him more cool skating tricks and Wendy was happy to show off again. She kissed Kenny on the cheek before skating off and doing tricks for him. It felt really good to have him cheering her on from the sidelines.

After they were done with skating they headed to Tweek Bros. to get some hot chocolate. Wendy drank hot chocolate and Kenny drank coffee. When Tweak brought their drinks to them Kenny grabbed his sleeve, "Tweak, tell your dad to put me back on the schedule."

"Gah! Okay, Kenny, it has been kind of lonely without you lately." He scurried off and Kenny sipped his coffee.

"I've never seen you drink coffee from here before." She said, glancing over at him. She thought she recalled him saying the coffee was bad.

"Yeah, but they changed something about it in the last week." Kenny just grinned, "Want a sip?" He asked her, extending his cup to her.

She took a sip, but it just tasted like the same old coffee to her. She wondered why Kenny had been taken off the schedule at work. She figured he just needed an emotional break after all the shit he'd been going through.

"So we're having dinner with your parents tonight?" Kenny asked her as they sipped their drinks.

"Yeah, they asked wanted to play a board game." She added sheepishly, she hoped Kenny wouldn't find her or her family weird for that.

"Oh really? I haven't played a board game in a while." Kenny chuckled, "I'm excited. I used to be a master of Monopoly when I was a kid." He smirked at her.

Wendy giggled, "Well you'll get plenty of chances to show off your skills tonight." She reached across the table and rested her hand on his. He gave her a reassuring squeeze.

Kenny and Wendy spent the rest of the day loading around South Park until it was time to go to Wendy's house for dinner. Kenny was starting to get anxious, he wondered what her dad was going to talk to him about. For once he wasn't worried about reeking like weed and cigarette smoke, but only because he hadn't been smoking all day. That same morning Kevin had found Kenny's last pack of cigarettes and threw them in the toilet.

Kenny didn't mind though, he had been preoccupied with Wendy all day. When they were together he couldn't peel his eyes from her. He kept thinking about how she flawlessly skated on the ice, he wished he could skate like that.

When they got to Wendy's house for dinner her parents acted happy to see her. Kenny made small talk with them all throughout dinner. His stomach turned every time that her dad glanced his way.

"So Kenny, what do you want to do after high school?" Wendy's mom asked him.

"Oh, I haven't really decided yet." Kenny replied, he hated thinking about the future. All he knew was that he wanted to get out of South Park.

She just nodded, "You still have plenty of time to decide." She smiled at him and Kenny smiled back.

Wendy's mom had made chicken noodle soup, which was perfect on a day like this. It had been so long since Kenny had had chicken noodle soup not from a can. "This soup of delicious." He added after a moment of silence. And it really was, maybe one of the best things he'd ever tasted.

"Thank you, Wendy is right. You are a really sweet boy."

Kenny glanced over at Wendy and smiled at her. She was blushing and avoiding eye contact. He couldn't help but feel a warm feeling spread across him at the thought of Wendy saying good things about him to her parents. It was sweet of her.

After they'd finished eating Kenny helped Wendy do the dishes as her parents set up a board game.

"You talk to your parents about me?" Kenny asked her softly as he dried off a dish.

"Well duh, we are dating." Wendy just shook her head as she handed him another dish.

Kenny chuckled, "That's so cute." He teased.

Wendy just rolled her eyes as she handed him another bowl to dry off. Kenny couldn't help but grin.

After the dishes were dried and put away the pair walked into the living room. The board game that was set up was The Game of Life. It had been a long time since Kenny had played it— or any board game for that matter. He kind of felt excited. He remembered when he was younger him, Stan, Kyle and Cartman would play them all the time. Sometimes he'd play the with his siblings too, but that was only if him and Kevin could get along long enough for a game.

Kenny sat down next to Wendy and they started playing the game. Kenny was having a lot of fun, laughing and joking right along side Wendy's family. He strangely didn't feel out of place for once.

Wendy's parents didn't treat him like so many other parents had before. When he was younger he hated visiting Stan or Kyle because their parents treated him differently, even just slightly so. It weighed on him to feel like they didn't want him around sometimes or that they even thought of him as poor. He especially hated Gerald Broflovski's weird pandering to him since he used to be friends with Kenny's dad. Cartman's mom was the only one who treated him as equal as the other kids and didn't comment about his clothes, hair or anything else.

But with Wendy's family he felt right at home. Playing Life with them made him wonder if this is what his family could be if they weren't so fucked up. Watching Wendy and her dad debate about whether to retire at Countryside Acres or the Millionaire Estates in the game made Kenny suddenly feel like he missed out on his life. Deep down he felt jealous of the relationship Wendy had with her parents because he knew he could never have something like that with his parents.

Kenny did feel like things were starting to look up for him when her dad included her in the discussion and he happily argued alongside Wendy that you should retire in the millionaire estates if you have the money in game. It's not like you need the money anymore, and besides, Kenny liked to imagine that his family he created in life was living a better one than him.

At the end of the game Kenny had won. He was kind of surprised actually, he hadn't been paying much attention to the money he had. He thought he was unintentionally hoarding it. He figured growing up poor was good for one thing— winning The Game of Life.

Kenny wanted to stay at Wendy's house forever but it was getting late. Kenny knew he had to go home soon. "Thanks for having me over tonight, I had a really good time playing life with all of you." Kenny smiled.

"Yeah, a good time kicking all of our asses in life." Wendy giggled, Kenny felt her arms wrap around his arm as she rested her head on his shoulder.

Kenny laughed with her, "It's getting late. I should probably get going."

"Oh Kenny, before you leave I was wondering if we could have a little talk. You know? Man to man." Her dad asked him. Kenny felt his heart stop, this was the crescendo. The whole night had been so perfect, but now he felt like he'd been trapped under a falling piano.

He just smiled, "Yeah of course." Inside he was screaming.

Wendy and her non left the room and he was left alone with Wendy's dad. Kenny sat on the couch and her dad sat in a chair. The tension Kenny felt could be cut with a knife. He waited for him to say something.

"Kenny I just wanted to say I had my doubts about you." Her dad started off, "You don't exactly seem like my daughters type. And right off the bat when she met you she was doing some questionable things, like trying to sneaking out and missing curfew."

Kenny felt kind of guilty. This was the part where her dad would tell him he was bringing Wendy down, just like everyone else. He braced for impact.

"But tonight, I feel like I really got to know you." Her dad smiled warmly, "You are a sweet person. You're kind, and your hearts in the right place. You're making Wendy very happy."

Kenny felt a weight lifted off of him. "Wow, you really mean that?" He asked him. He felt so happy, maybe he really was supposed to be dating Wendy.

"Yes. She's seemed happier lately, smiling a lot more. I can hear her singing to herself in her room. It's been a long time since I've seen her be that way." He continued, "Stan was a good person but he brought Wendy down a lot. Even when she was dating him I never saw her as happy as she is now."

Kenny looked down. He felt bad for Wendy and bad for Stan. He wished Stan was still with them. He didn't deserve to die. He still wondered if him seeing Wendy happy with Kenny pushed him to the edge. He blocked that thought of his mind. "Thank you, that means a lot. It really does." Kenny replied.

"You're welcome Kenny, but I do have to say one thing." He looked at Kenny and Kenny looked back at him, "If you keep making Wendy happy, I'll be happy with you too. But if you make Wendy sad, I'll be pissed as hell with you."

Kenny just grinned and looked down, "God, that's easy. I always want to make her happy."

Her dad smiled, "Then we won't have a problem." He stood up and Kenny did too. He opened his arms for a hug. Kenny hesitated before stepping in and closing his arms around him. "Welcome to the family, Kenny."

Kenny felt a tear prick his eye, he'd never felt acceptance like in this moment. He willed himself not to drop his tear. "Thank you." He said as he let go of him. Kenny had never felt happier.

Wendy came to say goodbye and walk him to his truck. Outside it was dark and freezing cold but Wendy and him still stood on the sidewalk next to his truck. Kenny hugged her and wouldn't let her go. "Wendy your dad told me I was part of your family."

"Yeah well, my parents really like you." She said, rubbing his back.

"I know. This has never happened to me before." He pulled away from her and smiled down at her. She pressed her lips to his.

"I had a really good time today." Kenny looked at her again. She was so beautiful. He thought of the first day they started talking, on New Years at the party and how he'd found her outside alone. She looked so pretty then too, he never could've seen himself holding her in his arms after playing board games with her family then.

"Me too, Ken. Thanks for hanging out with me." He pressed their lips together in another soft kiss. He felt a warm feeling in his heart. This time he was sure it wasn't just lust.

"I'll see you soon." He gave her one finally quick kiss before climbing into his truck. He watched her walk safely back into her house and let out a sigh.

"Am I in love?" He asked himself aloud as he started his car. Judas Priest came blaring through, he turned it off as he drove home.

Kenny still felt confused by his feelings. He'd never experienced love on this level before, he wasn't sure if the feeling was even real. There was an emptiness in being alone for so long, hooking up with people and having relationships that were only purely sexual. Kenny was starting to feel liberty in being caught in a web of love, especially with Wendy. When he looked into her eyes he felt like his heart was slowly becoming one with hers.

He decided one day, probably soon, he would tell her that. Though he still felt nervous that Wendy still didn't trust him and nervous of his own feelings. He wondered if he was admitting himself to a world of hurt by letting his feelings come through so boldly. He wondered if there would be consequences for opening himself up. Most love stories ended in hate, at least for a lot of people in South Park it did.

Kenny decided to push that all to the side when he pulled into his driveway. He had to mentally prepare himself to walk into his house. He wondered if Kevin was still mad at him for having cigarettes earlier, he also wondered if he had any cigarettes hidden in his room. His cravings for nicotine were starting to get unbearable. This was the longest he'd gone without smoking since he was fifteen.

He got out of the car and headed up the snowy walkway, pushing open the front door. The TV was on in the living room. He walked into the living room and Kevin and Karen were sitting watching Terrence and Phillip. The show had ended years ago, but they still aired reruns constantly.

"Kenny, you're back!" Karen excitedly turned around on the couch to face him. "How was your date with Wendy?" She asked.

Kenny walked around into the living room and flopped down on the recliner. "Well, I didn't die at the ice skating rink, so I'd say I'm doing pretty good."

"Did you have fun?" Kevin asked him, he seemed relaxed now.

"Yeah I did." Kenny answered. He remembered how nice Wendy'a family was. He wished his family could be like hers. "Wendy's mom made chicken noodle soup and it was the best thing I've ever ate."

"Chicken noodle soup? That sounds so good." Karen grinned, "Is her family nice?"

Kenny nodded, "They're so nice. It was refreshing to spend a night with a functional family. You know, parents aren't hitting each other or yelling." He mused.

"Yeah, I know what you mean. It kinda makes me hope mom and dad stay in the can forever." Karen muttered.

Kenny did have to admit that they were a lot more functional now with his parents out of the picture. He thought if he could just get Kevin out of the picture the family would be functional. Though he would feel bad for Karen if she had no one except for him.

"Mom and dad called us today. They said they think they're going to get out early for good behavior." Kevin said.

"Good behavior? What a joke." Kenny couldn't imagine his parents behaving good for any amount of time. He figured they had been telling the police some sob story about how much they missed their kids in an attempt to pity their way out of jail.

"Once they get out there's going to be frequent visits from child protective services." Kevin explained, "You two will be alright."

"Where are you going to go, Kevin?" Karen asked him. She sounded sad, but Kenny just felt relieved. He couldn't wait for the day Kevin left.

"I guess I'll go back to Denver. Get an apartment, get a job down there." He smiled, "Maybe I can come to visit you guys from time to time."

"Please do." Karen sounded excited, "I missed you so much while you were gone. I'm so happy to have my two brothers back again."

Kenny and Kevin made eye contact. Kenny looked away first. His heart ached for Karen. All she wanted was a family, just like Kenny wanted, and Kenny felt like he'd been stoping her dreams from coming to fruition. Every time Kevin extended the olive branch Kenny broke it in half.

Kenny crossed his arms as he watched Kevin and Karen happily chattered away about what it'll be like once their mom and dad got back. Kenny still felt like an outsider, but he wondered if it was because of the walls he was building up himself. He was pessimistic about the future of his parents and Kevin. Kevin believed their parents out change, but Kenny had never seen them show a shred of remorse for their actions. Conversely Kevin appeared to have changed, at least on the surface. Kenny had a hard time believing that, especially after seeing what junkies were really like.

"Do you think mom and dad will ever change?" Kenny asked aloud, interrupting whatever conversation his siblings were having.

"I think they will. They've gotta have some good left in them." Karen replied, "I think deep down mom and dad are good people."

"Yeah, alright. They could be good people? But that's not really an answer. Do you think they'll ever change?" Kenny paused for a moment, thinking back on all the memories he had with his parents. "They've always been like this. I don't think people ever change."

"What do you mean people don't change? That's bullshit, Kevin changed and he's sitting right here." Karen gestured to him.

Kenny looked at his brother, he wasn't so sure he changed. Sure he wasn't addicted to smack anymore, but he was the same as Kenny remembered him for childhood.

"Yeah Kenny, maybe you need to change and not be so negative and doubtful of those around you." Kevin piped up, Kenny just shook his head.

"Whatever, mom and dad will never change." Kenny stood up and started walking out of the room. "I'm telling you guys. No one changes." Kenny glanced at Kevin, he looked smug. Kenny left the room and walked to his own.

He flopped down on his bed and pulled out his phone. He had a message from Bebe on his screen. He opened it:

What the fuck do you think you're doing? I told you to stay away from Wendy but now you two are kissing in the hallways and shit acting like a couple or something—

The message continued, but Kenny didn't really feel much like reading the rest. He took a screen shot and sent it to the groupchat with Craig, Clyde and Token and then deleted the message and blocked Bebe's number. She was problem he didn't want to have to deal with ever again. Everyone in the chat started calling Bebe a stupid bitch and it brought a smile to Kenny's face. He hoped Bebe would leave him and Wendy alone from now on.

Kenny settled into bed and started to text Wendy, which had become almost a nighttime ritual for him at this point. Wendy asked him if he wanted to hang out again tomorrow, telling him her parents would be gone all morning and afternoon at the winter farmer's market in Denver.

Kenny asked her what they sold at the winter's farmers market. Wendy went on to explain to him all the things that they sold: meat, cheese, eggs, sauces...

Kenny wondered if her parents were always buying stuff that was local and fresh. He wondered if that's what made her moms food so good.

The pair stayed up texting about random things back and forth for awhile until Kenny couldn't keep his eyes opened. He said good night and set his phone down. He couldn't wait to see Wendy tomorrow, he was excited as a kid on Christmas Eve.
