Story information

Okay it's finally time for the shopping to begin! Be prepared to see some familiar, favorite and possibly unknown faces. I have been wanting to get this chapter out as soon as possible but couldn't until I felt the story had caught up with where I wanted it to be. If you disagree or see something wrong with how I am presenting Diagon Ally please tell me what you mean and what you like to see.

Besides all that I hope you are as excited as I am to spend some galleons!

Diagon Ally could be summed up by two words in Aris's opinion: Chaotic beauty.

As Aris walked through the streets he couldn't keep his eyes glued to any single location, always jumping to something new and exciting. From a broom store that had images of people flying through the air on them, to an apothecary with plants dancing in the windowsill. Even a ice cream stall claiming to have every flavor ever. The stores were just as fascinating as they were confusing.

Even the people were fascinating. They were from different ethnicities as well as races. The clothing reflected as much with colorful robes and hats, and some wearing suits and dresses, even clothes Aris had never seen before.

Spinning in circles as he walked forward too take it all in. It was for lack of better words Magical. As he was immersed in just enjoying the experience he didn't notice someone walking.

"Person ahead!" One of his snakes hissed our in warning but it was to late and Aris bumped into them. The person was about to fall over, so Aris acted quickly and grabbed the persons wrist and pulled them upright.

"Sorry about that" Aris apologized to the person before quickly turning his head to look for Snape. While he was looking his snakes also offered their own apologies regardless if the person could hear them or not, just trying to be polite. Once he located him up ahead he told the young boy around his age "see ya" then leaving making sure he didn't didn't lose Snape. Leaving behind a startled boy.

Never realizing the boy was more startled by the snake's warning. Or the actions after as the unnamed boy huffed to himself, "man why are snakes so chatty" before turning to his own guide who towered over everyone else in the street.

O-O-O-O

Aris caught up to Snape and didn't see him change in anyway once he had.

'Good looks like he didn't notice I feel behind for a moment' relief passed through him at the thought.

The two stopped at the next intersection in front of towering building that was higher than all other buildings around it. Made from pure white marble and was standing tall, despite the obvious architecture faults making the building look like it would crumble if a bird landed on top of it. It's pillars still looked strong regardless of angles.

"Do try not to fall behind boy" Snape commented with snark.

The words drawing Aris out of his viewing of the building. He scowled at being caught.

"Sorry sir it won't happen again" hastily apologized Aris. He heard something in response and Aris was almost sure is was a chuckle but would never be sure.

They walked up the marble steps to a set of large bronze doors which was being guarded by two people wearing scarlet red and gold uniforms. People who Aris recognized as goblins from the history book he read at the hospital. The gold on their uniforms was so gleaming that Aris thought it must be real gold.

The two goblins opened the doors allowing them to enter. Aris walked with Snape through a entryway that ended with another set of equally as large doors. The difference was that these doors were a dull silver that seemed like they were pull strait from the ground rather than forged. Written directly into the doors in large lettering making it impossible to miss was these words:

Enter, stranger, but take heed

Of what awaits the sin of greed

For those who take, but do not earn,

Must pay most dearly in their turn.

So if you seek beneath our floors

A treasure that was never yours,

Thief, you have been warned, beware

Of finding more than treasure there.

The warning on the doors was quite clear. Once they reached the doors the ones behind them were shut closed, and in that moment the ones in front opened up. Inside was another set goblins who were guarding this door. The hall's floor was tiled with marble, the base of the walls also still marble but the rest changed to a dark wood which made up most of the structures. Such as the tall counters that ended just above Snape's head at each counter was a goblin writing on parchment or talking to the person below their counter. Each goblin had such similar feature it was difficult to tell them apart each had long pointed ears and large hooked nose that put Snape's to shame. The only differences was in their clothes, hair and the amount of wrinkles on their face of which there was always many. Their facial structures were remarkably similar with only slight differences.

Aris followed Snape as he walked up to one of the open counters. Coughing to notify the goblin there that there were people present. Both Snape and Aris had to look up too see the goblin. The symbolism wasn't lost on Aris that you had to look up to the goblins during service.

The goblin at the counter stopped writing and folded his long boney fingers across each other.

"Mmm and what business do you two have with Gringotts on this day?" The goblin asked in an almost mocking manner.

"There will be two things, first the boy needs to go through an inheritance test before any money is taken from a vault" Snape replied in a equally tight tone.

"And do you have the required gold to take such a test?" The goblin spoke in a much more serious tone, as when it involved money.

"Yes here is the required fee" Snape clipped back while placing the pouch of gold into the goblin's eager hands.

Once the gold was counted the goblin called over another person to the counter. The new goblin had slicked back black greased hair and fewer wrinkles than the one working the counter.

"This is Urnok he will be conducting the test, follow him" was the last thing he said before fully dismissing Aris and Snape.

Urnok lead them to a separate chamber that was all but empty besides large basin sitting in the middle. The basin it self was intriguing as it was made of black marble with gold veins running through it, along with strange letters carved into it. Aris guessed that they must be runes, he couldn't read them but could guess that they must have some purpose. The basin clashed so clearly against the white floors and even the wood in the room.

"Would the young wizard come forward so that we can begin the ritual" Urnok asked quickly.

'I guess they really take the saying time is money' Aris thought amused at the probably reason for the haste.

Aris stepped forward and thought it might be similar to the way he learned his age so he presented his hand to Urnok. Which seemed to be the correct choice as Urnok took out a shinning silver dagger and brought Aris's hand over the basin before lightly dragging the dagger across Aris's hand. From that light brush a cut was made and blood dripped down into the basin before Aris's hand healed up with no prompt. Aris could only guess that it had something to do with the dagger itself.

The test began as Urnok dragged his finger around the rim of the basin. The symbols on the outer part of it lit up in a deep red color similar to the blood inside the basin. The liquid inside began to shift and coalesce into more stance symbols. Urnok looked at the symbols, raising a eyebrow for a moment before it quickly returned to normal.

"There is no inheritance to any vault within Gringotts" Urnok declared with thinned lips.

Aris didn't know if it had any more meaning besides the obvious. Aris haven't expected to have any inheritance but still it was disappointing to hear.

Regardless of the conclusion, Urnok lead them back through the chambers to the main hall and up to the same counter as before. This time there was no need to notify the goblin working as was greeted by Urnok to notify their arrival. After explaining the situation the goblin turned to Snape and asked, "well then you claimed there would be another request, what would that be?"

"Request to withdraw from vault 101. In the amount of common student requirements" Snape explained while taking out an intricate golden key and handing it to the Urnok who was standing beside with his hand outstretched.

Urnok looked over the key for a moment before nodding once at the goblin at the counter, he intern also received a nod of the head.

"Very well, follow Urnok to the vaults" he spoke in the least friendly tone that Aris had heard from a goblin yet.

'Man I know the book said they guarded gold furiously, but I thought it was an exaggeration' Aris's shocking thought of how true the book was about goblins. While it wasn't exactly correct, as he already saw some differences but the fact remained that the book didn't do their behavior justice.

Following Urnok to a silver door at the back of the hall they entered a room with a old metallic mine cart that had large wheels attached at the corners, with wooden benches inside. The cart itself looked much sturdier than the rickety train like tracks leading into a dark tunnel.

Urnok snapped his fingers at a lantern at the front of the cart, lighting the lantern. Urnok took a seat at the front near a set of controls that Aris could only guess how they work. Aris and Snape took a seat on the back bench. The most surprising thing was that once seated Snape grabbed Aris's shoulder firmly. It wasn't an angry grab, As Aris was quite familiar with those but a stable one as if Aris would run away without it.

The grips reason became quite clear once the cart began moving. It lurched forward with such force Aris would worry if he got whiplash. The cart never slowed down, once it was through the tunnel. On the other side of the tunnel was a giant cavern with a maze of tracks that boggled the mind. Passing by rocks and waterfalls as they went as such speeds that his snakes desperately tried to wrap around his neck to secure themselves. Hair now whipping back and forth with the cart. The ride was terrifying but Aris couldn't help the amazing feeling as adrenaline pumped through him. The excitement of literally living on the edge was addictive.

The ride came to an abrupt end. Again Snape's grip stopped Aris from falling forward from inertia. The cart was stopped in front of a large circular outcropping. Assuming it was the vault they were here for, but there was no door. There was just a circular wall that had intricate silver patterns.

'Well I guess a vault would be safer with no door, but how would you ever get in then?' Aris skeptically thought of the situation.

They all walked to the wall. Urnok told them to stand back. Then he dragged one finger on the wall down then in a circle. The patterns on the wall started to move and formed a line in the middle. With a great rumble the line started to part opening across the line. Revealing a huge room filled with mountains of gold, other assortments metals and gems.

Snape walked into the room gathering a various amount of coins. Galleons, sickles and Knuts all fell into a small pouch that Snape held, the bag far too small to fit everything inside but did so anyway. Once the money was collected he exited the vault and the doors shook again as they closed. Urnok then placed the key against the doors and twisted it. The line once again shifted to patterns, leaving no trace of it being able to open.

Everyone boarded the cart again, Urnok slammed a lever forward and the cart lurched again. The ride was just as fast and intense as the first time. Once it was finished Aris did stumble forward a little even though he braced himself.

Exiting the cart, Urnok then gave Severus the key from before. Remembering that Snape told him to always address his elders and wanted to makeup for his earlier error Aris then bowed his head to Urnok and thank him for his help today, "thank you for your help today Urnok sir". His snakes also unwrapped and bowed slightly.

"Mmm good day serpents' boy" Urnok responded with a lighter tone than he had hear from any goblin today, it still didn't seem polite but not nearly at clipped as others.

Professor Snape and Aris then quickly left the Gringotts, entering back into the boisterous streets of Diagon Ally. They then traveled around starting to gather up the necessary supplies.

First entering a shop called Traveling Trunks and Totes. A place selling many different types of luggage and bags. Snape purchased a large leather trunk that was enchanted for durability. Aris was amazed by the many enchantments of the products, from expanding the space within them to magical locks. Ending the purchase telling the own to ship it to St. Mungo's and listing Aris's name as the recipient.

Repeating the process at a number of interesting shops. Buying various supplies like a large cauldron at Potage's Cauldron shop, phials and ingredients at Slug & Jitters Apothecary and others such things at Wiseacre's Wizarding Equipment.

Stepping out of Amanuensis Quills where they had gotten a years worth of writing utensils, the two walked next door to a ornate shop called Madam Malkin's Robes for all occasions. The shop had a soft purple exterior with a viewing window displaying a set of robes. The interior was much the same except for the yellow ascent on the walls and racks of clothes as well as a few stands surrounded by mirrors. There was two other patrons being helped by workers taking measurements.

They walked up to a counter with a bell. Ringing the bell they heard a voice call out from further back in the store.

"Just a moment please" the voice was decidedly female. The person who stepped into view was an somewhat elderly woman as she had gray hair that was done up in a perm, she lacked many wrinkles and could pass for being in her fifties. She was a little squat in a homely way and was dressed in bright purple clothes.

"Ahh hello Professor Snape! who do you have with you today?" The woman cheerfully greeted them, seeming unimpeded by Snape's lack of return.

"My name is Aris Ruamont Ma'am" Aris interjected. He was growing tired of just being lead around by Professor Snape, he barely talked in the shops and only if he was asked a question.

"Ahh what a wonderful name, you can call me Madam Malkin, I must assume your here for Hogwarts robes, we have the lot of new students through here, in fact we have two others here now" Malkin engaged him with a bright smile.

Aris affirmed the suspicion with a nod. Madam Malkin clapped her hands and escorted them to an open fitting area. After getting Aris to stand in the area, she pulled out a roll measuring tape that she unspooled. Setting a stack of parchment by a quill. She proceeded to start taking measurements of Aris, speaking the numbers of areas out loud and the quill would write them down by itself. This continued for a time before she went up to measure his neck.

"Ahh young man could you hold your hair up and will measure your collar" she kindly asked.

"Oh yeah sure ma'am" Aris responded somewhat absently.

Rather than move his hands his snakes started to pull up his white hair into a knot and lifted it up. His natural action was then proceeded by a sudden scream.

"AAAHHH!! SNAKES!" Her terror clear from her now shrill voice.

The scream greatly surprised Aris and he quickly looked around for where a snake might be before realizing that she was talking about himself. A confused frown fell on his face as she was the first person in the magical world that made a big deal about his snakes, the hospital staff wasn't that shocked, Snape didn't freak out and even Urnok didn't seem to care and he called him Serpents' boy.

'Maybe she is just scared of snakes?' Aris tried to figure out a reason for why she looked so terrified.

"The boy is a half-breed that won't be a problem will it Malkin?" Snape entered the conversation with drawling tone that almost seemed to chastise Malkin.

Aris was very pleasantly surprised by Snape as no one had ever stuck up for him. It was definitely another point for Snape in the mental book of people Aris liked.

Snape then waved his wand and put it away into his robes. There didn't seem to be any change, but Aris did notice that it suddenly got a little louder again in the store.

Madam Malkin was slightly bent over, with an open hand on her chest and the other fanning herself. She took another couple of deep breaths before responding, "n-no. No there won't be any problem I was simply shocked, I apologize for my outburst" her tone started of shaky, but as she kept talking was brought under control. She continued if not now slightly reserved. Before she finished she asked a final question, "will there need to be any specifications for your race?"

"Uh could I get a shorter collar if you could do that" Aris pleasantly responded.

'Well she isn't still freaking out or yelling at me so I guess she was just surprised' was the mental conclusion Aris came to.

Receiving confirmation he let his hair fall back down before it was pulled back into a lose ponytail. After paying for the robes and telling her the shipping location, Snape and Aris approached the exit when it was suddenly opened by a young boy with slicked back platinum blonde hair bordering on white.

The boy walked inside and was followed by a woman who was wearing very expensive looking clothing that was mostly black. The woman had pale skin like the boy as well as blond hair but hers was also light brown on top. The both walked into the shop, letting Aris get a better look at them. The two clearly had some type of family resemblance. The woman spoke in elegant tone that spoke of wealth.

"Ahh Severus fancy meeting you hear. It is good to see you" as she spoke she walked up to Snape. The boy also walked up beside her, allowing Aris to see his light grey eyes. Eyes that contrasted with the blue eyes of the woman who Aris could only guess was the boy's mother.

"Hello sir" the boy greeted in a defined tone that sounded practiced.

"Yes hello to you as well young Draco, and good day to you Lady Malfoy" Snape greeted the two with a sharp bow of his head. Explaining his reason for being in this establishment, "I was here with Mr. Ruamont to procure his robes for the coming school year" while he was introduced, Aris took the chance to also bow his head following Snape's lead.

Once his head was down though the woman called Lady Malfoy made a comment about him, "mmm I haven't heard of the Ruamont Family" once he looked up he saw that her smile had turned into a thin line.

"Your not a mudblood are you?" Draco asked snobbishly.

Before Aris could ask what a mudblood was Snape spoke up, "his origins are still unclear due to a number of reason but I assume he has a connection to Greece"

When Aris snapped his head over to Snape thinking he might have found out more about him he didn't notice the light reflecting off the scales of his snakes into Draco's eye.

Annoyed by the glare Draco demanded to know what was causing it, "what's that in your hair it keeps shining in my eye?!"

"Oh young Mr. Malfoy you just in time for your appointment" Madam Malkin called out as she walked up to the group, cutting off any further discussions.

"Yes Draco it's time for your fitting let's move along" Lady Malfoy agreed gently pushing Draco along. She then said her goodbyes to only Snape before walking along.

"Yes of course mother, good day to you Professor sir" Draco followed his mother in etiquette. He squinted one last time at Aris as if he was about to solve a mystery before he was hurried along for his fitting.

After that interaction Aris decided that most wizards are just weird. Following Snape our of the store, as the man seemed like he remembered they were on a clock and was hurrying to the next store. From what Aris remembered about supplies they only had a couple of things left if you didn't include a pet which Aris assumes Snape didn't. The last stops were for books and a wand.
