I don't own the Hunger Games or any of its characters.

I am the one that wakes up to the sound of someone walking. Luckily I left my sleeping bag open so it was easy to roll onto my feet. I slept with my spear in my hand so I already had it pointed at the intruder. Said intruder was the male tribute from District three. The boy had his hands up in surrender and stood some way away from the camp but still in my range.

"Wait, I came here to make a deal!" I could see the boy was scared and had a sort of haughty smart attitude about him.

'I could kill him but I think I'll just let Cato deal with this might as well make sure he thinks he is in charge of me.' I don't put my spear down as I move to kick Cato awake.

"What the hell!" The muscle head growled at me.

"We have company. Says he wants to make a deal. Thought that you would want to hear him out." I grinned at his pissed-off face.

He got up from his sleeping bag grabbing his sword before stomping to the boy from three.

Everyone else is awake by the time he gets there.

"Why isn't he killing him?" Clove comments when we see Cato still talking to the kid from earlier while we eat.

No one had to answer because he came over with the kid in tow.

"This kid is going to reactivate the mines around the stands and we're going to place them around the supplies." Cato pushed the kid in front of him.

'Activating the mines was a good idea but if we put all of our supplies in one spot then all someone has to do is knock something down and boom there goes everything. It would have been better to set them around the arena and have the others blow themselves up. Although if they do go through with it I can just hide some of my stuff away from here and blow up everything when they go out. I could frame one of the newbies'.' I thought as the others asked questions.

"Alright, how do we do this?" I say finishing my food.

"First we need to dig them up. Then we dig for the spots that we will place them. I will reprogram them and that's it." The boy looked at the food the whole time.

"Here you'll need it since I'm not digging those things up myself." I toss him a packet of jerky.

It takes the whole day to break ground and dig the damn things up with Cato, Peeta, and I do most of the digging. As we set up the pile I put some of my stuff in it and the rest I hid in a loose panel in the Cornucopia. I now had three spears, ten knives, two days' worth of food, one short sword, and its sheath, two canteens, wires, rope, matches, first aid kit, and a tarp. All of it in one pack besides the ax, sword, and spears.

When everything was done and everyone memorized the safe path everyone went to bed and I stayed up to appoint myself for the first watch. Four hours went by and I woke up Clove to take over. In the morning I eat two apples before we all head out to look for other people. I didn't think leaving the boy from three to guard the camp was a good idea but I wasn't going to say anything.

It was around noon that we headed to the river. I see her first. She was sitting in the water staring at us.

'Duck in the water. Don't just sit out in the open. Hide. Good, no one spotted her. No one see her or the arrows I gave her. Come on, don't look in her direction.' I continued to laugh, not looking in her direction.

Then my luck ran out.

"Look, it's her!" Glimmer pointed her out.

Then the chase began. I was glad I was tall. I was faster than the others and was able to run a little ahead of Cato. I didn't know what I was going to do when I caught up but it certainly wasn't killing her. I was extremely glad that she started climbing. I stopped at the base of the tree she was climbing, still grinning and cheering as Cato decided to climb up the tree after her.

I cheered silently when he fell. Clove threw a knife at her a couple of times. And she yelled something back that I didn't catch. Then the traitor opened his mouth.

"Let's just wait for her to come down. She can't stay up there forever. She has to eat at some point." We all look at Cato for his decision.

"Alright. Gather firewood and set up camp." Clove and I go one way and Cato and Glimmer go the other way leaving Peeta alone.

Finding the wood didn't take much time. Soon a fire was going and everyone was settled down. I lay down and fell asleep even though it was still light out. When I wake up it's before the sun comes up. The first thing I look for is the others.

'Peeta's gone. Glimmer is sleeping with the big guy and Clove is curled up with a knife. How exciting.' I frowned at the Peeta part stretching out my senses to see if he was anywhere near only to hear a buzzing.

I look up at the tree that Katniss was sleeping in only to see her higher than last time and a couple of branches away from a Tracker Jacker nest. I look at the embers of the fire and back at the nest before taking some wet wood and lighting it again. The smoke went up and reached the nest. I waited a few moments before the buzzing stopped.

'That was close. The smoke knocked them out but when the fire stopped they started to wake up. The branch looks pretty sturdy so at least it won't fall on us that many stings would kill us.… Hmm, it would be pretty bad if it did fall. But how to do that without getting caught. The best thing would be for the thing to fall while they are asleep.' The sun comes up and I hear a sound coming from one of the trees.

I don't see anything besides Katniss moving to the nest. The smoke from the fire calmed them down and didn't sting her as they would have. As she starts sawing through the branch I put the fire out so that when she's halfway done they will be active. Grabbing my spear I leave the camp. When I'm far enough I start running to the Cornucopia. I don't stop till I get there. When I make my way to the Cornucopia ignoring the boy from three. Then the cannon goes off. I'm quick to grab all of the stuff I hid.

As I make my way out I'm by the edge when I pause.

'Well, I might as well make this good for the ones watching.' I shrug before taking my ax and throwing it.

The ax embeds itself in one of the boxes cutting through the apple bag in the process. I start running with my hands over my ears as soon as the bag starts to fall. A cannon goes off before the pile of supplies explodes. I'm knocked off my feet by the explosion and my ears are ringing. I get on my feet fast, vaguely hearing another canon go off.

Not three minutes into my run do I come across a hallucinating Clover who throws a knife at me.

"Jesus! She's been stung a lot but can still throw a knife." I say as I dodge the much slower but still accurate knife.

I put my stuff down, taking my short sword out. I take a breath before running right at her. I take a knife to the shoulder when I don't move fast enough. Deflecting the next with the flat of my sword I faint to the left before lunging right at her plunging my sword into her stomach.

I yank my sword out and the cannon goes off as she hits the ground. Wiping my sword off with her shirt I leave her on the ground as I sheath my sword letting it hang on my hip. I don't pull the knife out, only grabbing my stuff and walking away. I don't walk long before coming across a passed-out Katniss.

"You have got to be kidding me. How the hell did you still get stung when I helped you. And you didn't even make it that far." I sigh trying to figure out how to treat a Tracker Jacker sting and how I'm going to fix my shoulder.

"Did you help her?" A voice comes from above me.

Looking up I see Rue, the little girl that shadowed me during training.

"Yeah but she somehow always gets herself into trouble. So I don't even know if you can call what I do helping." I replied not taking my eyes off of the girl.

"Why haven't you killed her?" She asked in a position to get away quickly.

"Don't know," I reply half truthfully.

"Why are you helping her?" She relaxes a little at my answer.

"Don't know." Another half-truth.

"Will you kill me?" She asked the big question.

At this I pause. The answer should be yes but all I can think of when I look at her are Chloe and Rosie.

"Depends on if you could help me out. If you can then you should probably ask me that question when only three of us remain." I answered the girl, finally taking my eyes off her.

I could practically hear her smile. When she comes down I only hand her my bag and spear before walking over to Katniss. It was a little awkward getting her thrown over my shoulder with one arm but when I did I stood up holding her steady with my hand on her upper thighs. I grab her things and the bow and arrows that I took off her with my other hand trying not to move my shoulder.

I start walking in the opposite direction of the Cornucopia trying to find a place to recover.

'There were four deaths today. This leaves seven of us left which means that they will start the interviews and give us a few days to recover since the careers are now non-existent and the only operational ones are Rue, Thresh, Flynch, and Diego. With the capitol favorites out of action, things are probably getting rowdy with these recent deaths. The finale starts when there are only four tributes. Three more have to die before then and all of the others have to be in top shape to make it any good. Okay so for now we have until Katniss wakes up till we have to get back in the running. The woods are too out in the open and I hope we don't run into Thresh or Cato anytime soon. The river will probably be the best spot and hopefully, there is a cave somewhere.' I think as I change my course so we walk towards the river.

"When we can see the river, be on the lookout for caves. We can't use the trees since I can't climb with my shoulder and Katniss might fall out. Our best bet is to find a cave and recover there till they force us out of it which probably will be for the finale. I think I heard four cannons. I know two of those are for Clove from two and Henry from three. The other two are iffy for me. I'm hoping that one of them was for Cato or Thresh-no offense-because I don't want to fight one of those two." I finish as we walk along the river bank.

"Okay. No offense taken, I don't know him that well." Rue replied with her eyes glued to the rocks and my bag on her back.

I smile when I see that she had to cradle my spear in her arms to hold it and the two others barely stayed off the ground. She starts slowing down when we reach the rapids. The sun was starting to set and we would be out in the open when dark hits if we don't find a shelter soon. Just as I think of an alternative Rue stops me.

"Look over there!" She pointed to a mound of rocks covered in moss.

I walked over to the rocks and as I got closer I could see vines covering the rocks as well.

"Are you sure this is a cave?" I asked, trying to ignore the throbbing in my shoulder.

Instead of answering she uses my spear to push aside the vines revealing a sizable entrance.

"I wasn't but I'm glad it is." She takes the bag off and crawls into the hole.

"It's a pretty good size you could stand up and it's deeper than it looks." Her voice came from inside.

'Not like it matters as long as we have someplace to stay.' I sigh before pushing the vines aside.

The entrance dipped then evened out. I could probably stand but I would have to bend my head a little. She was standing in the middle of the cave. Katniss was still over my shoulder and I had to crawl to get into the cave but I couldn't carry her since I only have one arm.

"I'm going to hand you the bags then Katniss." I put Katniss's stuff down first and I could feel her grab it.

After a few seconds, I handed her my stuff making sure to hand her the side with the but of the spears so she didn't hurt herself. I wait till she tells me that the stuff was out of the way before trying to get Katniss off which didn't work at all.

"Rue comeback up I can't get her off without dropping her." I stand back up righting her on my shoulder.

The girl soon pops back up and grabs Katniss's shoulders holding her top as I ease her off my shoulder keeping a tight grip on her legs so she doesn't crush the girl. After we get her off I hold her up while Rue goes back into the cave.

"You are way too light for a sixteen-year-old girl," I say as I ease her into the cave.

It was a little awkward but she was in soon enough.

"Rue, I'm going to get some firewood. Do you need anything else?" I asked, looking at the sky.

"No, It would be better if you come in. I'm in better shape to go out and you don't know what I will need." The girl pops back out.

I frown but can't argue with her.

"Alright but don't take too long and if you see anyone hide or run. Please be careful, Rue." I say to the small girl as I bend down to get into the cave.

I see Katniss laying on the ground with her head on her pack. Mine was right across from her. I sat down on the ground wincing as the knife in my shoulder jostled. I dig through my bag grabbing the first aid kit. I grab some gauze, the disinfect, and a bandage. I pull the knife from my shoulder biting back a grunt. Throwing the knife to the ground I take off my jacket and shirt laying both in my lap to cover my torso.

'This needs stitches but I can't see and I doubt Rue knows how to do them. Let's hope I get some sponsors or it doesn't get infected.' I think to myself as I look at the wound that oozes blood.

I grab some of the gauzes and press it to the wound hard to get the bleeding to stop. After a minute or two I pulled it away to see the bleeding slowed down. I grabbed the disinfectant and sprayed it on the wound, clenching my teeth as it burned. I used new gauze to keep the bad stuff from going too far. I did this till it stopped burning. Drying it I unwrapped the bandage and stuck it on the wound.

I put my shirt back on and left my jacket off. Putting the dirty stuff in one of the empty containers I put everything back just as Rue comes back.

"I got what I needed to help Katniss and some firewood. Are you sure you want to light a fire?" The girl asked and she came back with some plants and wood.

"Yeah so you can see just for a little bit then we will put it out. While it's going I'll put the tarp in front of the entrance to block the light from getting out. If you got them dry wood there shouldn't be any smoke." I grabbed the wood from her arms.

I started the fire quickly and put the tarp up as she treated Katniss for the stings. When she finishes I hand her some jerky and crackers we both eat just enough to satisfy our hunger before saving the rest and putting the fire out.

I set a blanket on Katniss and lay my sleeping bag out for Rue. I sat near the entrance leaving the tarp in its place with my spear in hand. Rue pulls the sleeping bag next to me and lays so that her back is pressed against my side. She was small and a little bony but warm. I look at her for a while before looking outside through the small part in the tarp and vines.

'What have I gotten myself into?' I let my head lean on the cave wall as I scanned the forest and river.

Primrose Pov

My older sister Katniss has always said that it was okay that I didn't want to hurt anyone. That I should preserve my innocence for as long as possible and she would hold onto the darker things for me. When I was younger I was relieved to hear that, especially after our father died and our mother stopped being our mother. I was okay with Katniss carrying all of the darkness while I was her light. I was okay with that.

At least I was until she volunteered in my place for the Hunger Games or more known as the death games. It was me that was supposed to go, not my sister. Not Katniss, my savior, my rock. It was as the train pulled out that I realized that I could do nothing. That I did nothing while Katniss did everything to help keep this family alive. I just sat back and let her take on everything and did nothing.

If Katniss dies then so will we. Those seven days before the start of the games as I walked around the town I realized that Katniss protected me from so much. I never noticed the girls that waited in the alleys for older men with money to pay them for their bodies. I never noticed the men and women from the mines missing parts of themselves. I never noticed the sadness and despair that surrounded District twelve like a fog. I never noticed how when people looked at me they always looked at the spot where Katniss would be with hope until it faded when they realized that she was gone.

Katniss was not only my savior but she was also everyone in District twelves' savior as well. And because of my incompetence, I let the hope in this district be extinguished by the Capitol. I would spend my nights during those seven days watching reruns of the parade. Watching as my sister's warmth and the fire were on display for all of Panem to see. How she became one of Panem's most liked people as she became the girl on fire.

It was when I watched the interviews that I realized that her fire wasn't the only thing that the people loved and not the only thing burning. The boy carved out of ice from District one walked onto the stage wearing slacks, a dress shirt, and a vest with a tie. The fabric was shiny and he had stuff in his hair so every time he moved it looked like he was covered in ice.

"You look Marvelous Marvel," Caesar commented, shaking his hand as he made it to the middle.

"You don't look too bad either Caesar." He grinned, taking a seat.

"So before we get into the strategic part of this interview I would like to ask you a few questions." The man gave the audience a sly smile.

"Sure, ask any question you want, I just might answer them truthfully." He grinned.

"Okay then. In the parade, you called Katniss Everdeen Beautiful. What I want to know is what you think about her." The crowd went wild at the question.

"Wow okay dive right into the hard questions why don't you." His face was surprised for a second before he composed himself

"Okay, this is one of the questions that I have to answer truthfully. Um, so I won't take back the comment that I made at the parade. Katniss is beautiful and I don't just mean her looks–although she does look gorgeous today–I mean her personality. There is one thing I will always be serious about and that is my family. Katniss was strong enough to volunteer for her sister, something I take very seriously. I respect her because if I had the chance I would do the same thing for my siblings. It's the oldest siblings' job to look after the younger ones to do everything they can to make sure they are safe and happy. Even with the small gestures that happened during the reaping ceremony, you could tell that she loves her sister and her love is something beautiful. So in conclusion I respect Katniss and acknowledge her as a strong opponent. When the games start I won't hold back if it comes to a fight between the two of us. She deserves my all and I will give it to her. I also hope that she will return the favor." He was supporting my sister even though she was from the outer district.

"Well, you heard it from the source people. Now onto my next question. What are your siblings like?" Caesar asked moving on before things got too bad.

"Well, I have three siblings. The oldest is the twins Brady and Chloe. They are the headache that I have every day. Alone they aren't bad but together they are a force to be reckoned with. You do not want to get on their bad side but it is funny to watch what they do to those who do. They are both eight years old. The youngest and my little pup. She's the one that looks more like me than dad. The little three-year-old is the light of my life. She is so innocent but always so curious. If you let her out of your sight she will disappear and come back with some weird story to follow. Gives me heart attacks every time because she's the baby of the family. I love my siblings so much I would do anything to keep them safe." His goofy smile disappeared and was replaced with an icy look that was almost like Katniss's but a lot colder.

"Oh, we ran out of time but real quick Marvel what was your plan for the Games?" Caesar asked as one of the people pointed to the minute left.

"Oh well I would say how I was going to kill everyone but that gets old so all I'm saying is that not all of my cards are on the table. Random fact I'm amazing at poker just putting that out there real quick." He answered with a smile on his face.

"What a fun fact! Well, it's been great having you here Marvel. Give a hand to the boy carved out of ice!" Caesar said as He left.

This boy was so much like Katniss but also the complete opposite. He made me realize that my sister loved me and our family. She didn't do all of that because I was fragile but because she loves me. I love her too so I'm going to keep things together until she gets back. I won't stand behind her in her shadow but next to her. She is my savior and I will do what I can to prove that she won't just be taking care of me but I will take care of her too.

Peeta the baker's son's remark about how he liked Katniss didn't surprise me. I knew that half of the boys her age had huge crushes on her including Gale. His remark made Gale angry but I just frowned as he stormed off in a rage. I knew that Katniss didn't have feelings for anyone here not only because she had to take care of us but because no one challenged her.

Gale was just like her if not more controlling and blind-sighted. If they ever got together he would just hurt her. Peeta, while a nice guy, was too soft to be with Katniss. She would have to bear all of the darkness while he just hid behind her. I mean he could bring out her emotions but I don't think it would be a healthy relationship.

Gale was still in a bad mood when the games started. Until Katniss got into the forest my heart was in my throat as the girl from two tried to kill her. The boy from one-Marvel-killed the most people during the bloodbath. Although he killed a lot of people I wasn't scared of him like I was of the boy from two. The other Careers made the tributes that they killed a very horrible death. I had to look away as the girl from one kept stabbing one of the tributes even after they died.

Marvel killed the tributes quickly and without messing with any of them. He even was disgusted at how the other messed with the others.

I was watching him and Katniss during the first day. I was surprised when Caesar pointed out that he saw Katniss after they killed the girl from eight and did nothing. I was nervous when he left the other careers and Peeta with a bag and bow and arrows. While he was giving Katniss the Bow and arrows I banged my head on the table when she turned them away. I completely agreed with him when he said it was stupid to not take the things she needed to survive.

Both I and my mother were completely surprised when he kissed her and she didn't kick him or something. I was even more surprised when she didn't wipe her mouth or move trees after he left. She just went back to sleep like that didn't just happen. I did cover my mouth so I didn't laugh when he stopped to bang his head on a tree saying how stupid he was.

I was completely terrified when the fire started. I was crying when she got burnt. I was screaming at her to run when one of the Career's spotted her while she was in the river. I was so glad that Marvel didn't climb the tree when she got trapped in it but I did get mad when Peeta opened his mouth and trapped her there.

The next day was an action-packed one. Katniss dropped a Tracker Jacker nest on the Career and killed the girl from one. Marvel left the Career and blew up their supplies and the boy from three. He killed the girl from two. Katniss was saved by Peeta when she got stung. Peeta was killed by the boy from one. Marvel was wounded and Katniss was unconscious. The Alliance with Rue from 11.

After the day ended they announced how they were going to have the family interviews soon for the last eight tributes. And Gale was throwing a fit.

"She should have killed that Career while she had the chance! Now she is completely defenseless!" His family and my mother and I were just watching.

He kept going on about how he was a Capitol pet and how he was just going to stab her in the back. How that kiss was just to get her to let her guard down. He kept going on and on and for once I just snapped.

"Shut up Gale! He won't hurt her, everyone knows that! She isn't stupid you saying that she was stupid to let him kiss her! You're just jealous that she let him-her enemy and a boy from a different district- kiss her. He had so many chances to kill her and he didn't. He didn't even leave her after she was unconscious. He has so many chances to kill her right now but he doesn't. So stop saying crap about her and him. She will never love you like that. I care about both of you but this is getting old. You are a good guy but it is either what you see or nothing. You aren't even open-minded enough to think that maybe some people don't like the capital like us in the other districts. When she comes back she won't be the same person with the same views as you and I bet you're going to shun her for that. Well wake up Gale she will never love you that way and you can't expect her to be the same person when she comes back and she will come back." I'm not yelling by the end of it but I am glaring.

Everyone was quiet because I'm not the type of person to get angry or yell but I just did. I could tell everyone agreed with me but I could also tell that Gale won't accept the truth. And I just sighed and went to my room saying one last thing.

"Do what you want Gale, but you know that it's the truth. But I don't want to hear another bad thing about Katniss or Marvel come from your mouth again."

'Please make sure she comes home.' I thought of Marvel protecting her as I lay on my bed.
