Hello, readers! I'm here today with a brand new story. Brand new as in this story has nothing to do with my Love At Last series. This story will be a long multi-chapter story. That should be fun, right?

The premise for this story is a bit strange, I'll admit that. But if Chino's grandfather can turn into Tippy, it's not that hard to believe that some sort of magic could turn Syaro into a child.

My goal for this story is for it to be fluffy, light-hearted and funny. This is an SOL fanfic for an SOL manga/anime. That can't be a bad thing, right?

By the way, I stay up to date with the manga so my fanfics will consider whatever has happened in the manga till date. On this day, the most recent manga chapter is Chapter 131, which should be the 10th chapter of Volume 10 when the volume comes out at the end of the year. So if anything in my fic clashes with any manga chapter after that, just know that it's not my fault.

Without further ado, let's get on with the story!

Disclaimer: I do not own GochiUsa. It belongs to Koi.

A Wish Upon A Shooting Star

Chapter 1

Syaro let out a long sigh as she trudged back home. She'd managed to spend the whole day running around and now it was already dark. Would her life ever get any less tiring? She sincerely doubted it.

Syaro had to admit that work was more fun now since she had Maya to entertain her with her antics. But that didn't make it any less exhausting. She was grateful that she could work at Fleur; the pay was good after all. But at this point, Syaro detested having to pass out flyers more than anything. It didn't help that rabbits always surrounded her while she tried to convince people to take a flyer either.

There was also the fact that Syaro had not one, not two but four kouhais now. How exactly did that happen, again? They all seemed to really look up to her too so Syaro couldn't help but get stressed out by the situation. She wanted to be a reliable senpai but how exactly was she supposed to do that? She had no clue whatsoever.

And as if all that wasn't enough, there was also that one issue that troubled her so much that she seriously felt like her heart would burst some day.

Her senpai. The one person she looked up to more than anyone else in the world. Cool and reliable. Strong and beautiful. The person who could make Syaro feel weak in her knees with just a mere smile. The one who had stolen her heart years ago.

And the one who apparently had absolutely no idea about how she felt.

Syaro groaned. When she had first met Rize, she was content to just be able to spend some time with her crush. It didn't even have to be only the two of them. Hanging out with Rize with the rest of her friends was enough for Syaro.

But it wasn't enough anymore. And that was because Syaro didn't just have a crush anymore. Over the years she had got to know Rize, her feelings had grown stronger and stronger to the point where she now had no choice but to admit to herself that she was hopelessly, dangerously and madly in love with her Rize-senpai.

And it just killed her that Rize didn't seem to feel the same way.

Syaro sulked. It didn't seem like anything was ever going to happen between them at this rate. Rize considered her to be a good friend and that was it. Maybe she should just be grateful she could spend any time with Rize at all. They weren't even in the same school anymore. She should be happy they weren't drifting apart.

"Syaro-chan? Is everything all right?"

Syaro looked up to see Chiya staring at her, concern written all over her face. So she was already home? It was a good thing Chiya called out to her or she would have walked right past her house without realizing it.

Syaro averted her eyes. "It's nothing, Chiya. I'm just tired."

Chiya tilted her head. "Are you sure?"

Syaro faked a smile. "Yeah. You going somewhere?"

"We're out of soy sauce so I'm going to the convenience store to buy some."

"You should go then." Syaro waved. "Bye."

Before Syaro could take a step forward, Chiya's eyes widened and she excitedly pointed at the sky. "Syaro-chan! A shooting star!"

Syaro's head jerked up just in time to see a streak of white light race across the jet black night sky. Chiya was right. It really was a shooting star.

"Hurry up and make a wish, Syaro-chan!"

Syaro snorted as Chiya closed her eyes and clasped her hands together. As if wishing on a shooting star could possibly work.

But... It couldn't hurt to try, right?

Syaro looked up at the sky and let her eyes flutter shut. I wish... I wish Rize-senpai would love me back.

"Did you make a wish?"

Syaro's eyes snapped open. Chiya's smile was as mischievous as ever.

Syaro headed toward her house. "Maybe I did. Maybe I didn't."

As Syaro entered her house and closed the door behind her, she was sure she heard Chiya let out a chuckle.

Rize tried her best to suppress a smile as she listened to Cocoa animatedly explain to her how popular she was with her new kouhais. Rize nodded once in a while to indicate that she really was listening even though her hands were busy wiping a plate. She would have told Cocoa to get back to work too but seeing Chino get jealous was way too amusing.

Chino didn't actually say anything but the look on her face said it all. She was jealous that Cocoa called other girls her younger sisters. Rize bit her lip to stop herself from laughing. To think she'd ever get to witness such a day.

"And then I did a magic trick and everyone was so impressed. I think I should learn some new tricks. What do you think, Chino-chan?"

Chino pouted. "Do whatever you want."

Cocoa blinked. "Why are you making that face? Did I say something wrong again?"

"This is my usual face."

"No, it's not."

"Yes, it is."

"But Chino-chan, yo-"

"Would you please go back to work, Cocoa-san?"

At this, Rize burst out laughing. Cocoa and Chino turned to look at her, clearly surprised by her sudden outburst. But Rize seriously couldn't help herself.

Cocoa opened her mouth to say something but closed it as the front door slammed open. As she spun around to see what was wrong, Chiya ran into the café. She stopped in front of Cocoa, panting hard.

"Chiya-chan? Is something wrong?"

Rize furrowed her eyebrows. Chiya wasn't alone. She had a small child in her arms. "Who's that, Chiya?"

Chiya looked at the child in her arms and then back at Rize. Her face distorted into a mixture of worry and... Confusion? Why did she seem so confused?

The blonde child turned her head to look at Rize, tears in her eyes. Rize felt her heart skip a beat. She'd recognize those turquoise eyes anywhere.

"Sy-Syaro? Is that you?"

"Eh?!" Cocoa took a step forward and observed the child closely. "She really does look a lot like Syaro-chan."

Chino stared at the kid with wide eyes. "Is that really Syaro-san?"

Chiya nodded. "It is. I... I don't know how this happened. She... She was fine last night. But now..."

Rize frowned. "She suddenly turned into a kid today?"

"Yes!" Chiya let out an exasperated sigh. "I can barely believe it myself but it's true. This really is Syaro-chan. She came to Ama Usa this afternoon crying about how she couldn't find her parents anywhere."

Rize blinked. "Her parents? Don't they live in the city?"

Chiya nodded. "They do but Syaro-chan didn't know that. She thinks she's four years old. She doesn't remember anything that happened in her life after that age."

Rize felt the blood drain from her face. If what Chiya was saying was true, then didn't that mean...? "H-Hey, Syaro... You... You don't recognize me, do you?"

As Syaro slowly shook her head, Rize's heart fell. She clutched her chest and squeezed her eyes shut. "I knew she wouldn't recognize me but... That still hurt. A lot."

"Don't you remember me, Syaro-chan? It's me. Cocoa!"

Rize opened her eyes to find Cocoa staring at Syaro intently. Syaro's eyes watered and she turned away from Cocoa, burying her head into Chiya's shoulder. Cocoa hung her head.

Rize sighed. "You're scaring her, Cocoa. Don't be so aggressive."

Cocoa backed away a few steps and smiled. "Syaro-chan, don't be afraid. I moved back. See? You can look up now."

Syaro slowly turned her head to look at everyone for a full two seconds before she turned away again. "Chiyaaaa, why did you bring me here? This is scary." She sniffled. "I want to go home. Pwease take me home."

Rize's heart skipped a beat again. Oh, dear. That was just way too cute.

"But these are our friends, Syaro-chan." Chiya smiled. "We're going to need their help if we want to get you back to normal."

Syaro pouted. "But I don't remember any of them..."

Rize raised an eyebrow. "Wait a minute. Syaro knows that she's not supposed to be a four-year-old?"

"Well, I couldn't just leave her in the dark. So I told her that she's supposed to be seventeen and that she lives alone since her parents live in the city."

"And she believed you?"

Chiya giggled. "She managed to recognize me, so, yes."

Rize bit her lip. So Syaro recognized Chiya but not her? That was kind of upsetting...

Rize shook her head. What was she thinking? Of course she recognized Chiya. Chiya was her childhood friend, after all. Syaro knew Chiya when she was four so it made sense that she'd recognize her. But Syaro didn't even remember meeting Rize so of course she wouldn't know who she was.

Rize understood it all. Then why did her chest still feel so tight?

Chino finally spoke up, seemingly overcoming her shock at the situation. "But Syaro-san, how did you recognize Chiya-san? Isn't she a lot... bigger than you remember?"

Syaro eyed Chino carefully before breaking into a small smile. "She looks like Chiya and sounds like Chiya and she was working at Ama Usa An so..."

Cocoa giggled. "That's nice."

"But how did this happen?" Chino asked. "Did anything seem strange when you saw Syaro-san last night?"

Chiya put on a thoughtful look. "She seemed kind of upset when she came home last night. So we ended up wishing on a shooting star."

Rize narrowed her eyes. "A shooting star? Did Syaro wish that she'd turn back into a kid or something?"

"I don't think she'd do that." Chiya pointed at Syaro with her free hand. "There's no way she'd want to go back to being a crybaby."

Syaro pouted. "Everything is scary. That's why I cry."

Rize's eyes softened as she smiled at Syaro. "Don't worry about a thing, Syaro. I'll protect you from anything that comes your way. So you don't have to be afraid."

A small smile tugged at Syaro's lips as she averted her eyes. Rize chuckled. Syaro was even shyer than usual now. But at least she seemed a little less scared.

Cocoa tapped her chin. "If Syaro-chan didn't wish to turn back into a child, then she must have turned into a child to fulfill whatever she wished for. So maybe she'll turn back to normal when her wish comes true."

Chino nodded. "I think Cocoa-san is right."

"Eh?" Cocoa tilted her head. "You agree with me?"

Chino shrugged. "I can't think of a better explanation so yes."

Rize snorted at the look on Cocoa's face. Cocoa seriously needed to get used to getting praised once in a while.

Chiya cleared her throat. "In that case, we have to make a decision."

Rize furrowed her eyebrows. "About what?"

"It could take a while for Syaro-chan to turn back to normal. So who's going to take care of her until then?"
