A/N: My back/leg pain is eating me alive...but I'm...still...here...

Once more, we're sticking with the "Embers" rule for this story...and others.

If folks don't like this, it won't be continued. Meaning that if the story itself ain't popular? Well...I won't be able to continue it.

I'm working two jobs with ever-increasing hours and the holidays are right around the corner; I barely have time to write; as such, I cannot afford to write something folks don't enjoy. So by all means, speak up! Your voice matter! Make yourself heard! As ever, reviews are the fuel that sustains me. Without them, I cannot write a single word. Simple as that.

So by all means, speak up! Raise your voice! Make yourself heard! Your reviews matter! Really, they do!

Now for your questions, comments, and concerns. Got a few this time, feel free to skip 'em.

Q: Dark Souls references?

A: YES.

Q: Update schedule?

A: Every. Damn. Day, sans Wednesday. As stated, I've held back on the Elden Ring updates until now; my update rate this month speaks for itself.

I'll even listen them again for good measure: Bloodborne, RWBY, Arcane, Resident Evil, Demon Slayer, My Hero Academia, Genshin, Edgerunners, Overlord, and Fate. In short, I've been very busy, burning the candle at both ends.

Q: Why aren't you updating more on A03?

A: Because the chapters over there are different from here. Different plotlines, more mature themes, that sort of thing.

Its also a lot more work, and co-writers aside, I'm only one guy...

Doesn't help that A03 doesn't get much feedback.

Q: Naruto is a little too silly in this, methinks?

A: Humorous story, remember? The reason was already stated last chapter. As far as he knows, the Lands Between are peaceful for now. As he's essentially the third son of three, and reincarnated at that, he really doesn't feel the need to intervene in anything.

Not that he won't if pressed of course, but the fact remains that he was reborn in an era of peace.

Q: When you say Naruto has control of beasts as Rykard, do you mean he has...?

A: Ah! Spoilers!

Q: Soooo...Tanith is obviously part of the pairing, but who else?

A: I think I'll be cagey about that this time around. Gotta surprise folks every now and again, ya know...

Q:...is there a plot this story?

A: There is and its -hopefully- going to be absolutely hilarious~!

Alright, I've kept you long enough. As ever, I own no quotes, references, themes, or memes. Not a wit or a one!

They're tributes to legends far greater than I. Now, then...

...get ready to grin.

"How rude! Don't you have any decency?!

...I do, you're just not worthy of it."

"Why you little?!"

"Bye~!"

~?

Sweet Hersey

"The boy must be stopped!"

Renala hummed into her hand as she watched Radagon rage back and forth across their balcony. "Tis a prank, beloved. Harmless, even."

"His antics go well beyond mere mischief!" Her husband paused in his pacing to slam a fist down upon the railing. "This is blasphemy against the Greater Will! This is madness! This is-

"SPARTA~!"

Rennala snorted as little Rykard absolutely cackled in the distance, having heard his father somehow. A remote-viewing spell no doubt. Radagon's head whipped in that direction, seeking a shadow even now vaulting away across the rooftops of the academy. More than a few scholars had taken to his hexes. She suspected a few would be using this one in the coming days. Still, Rennala found herself grateful for her son's distraction; if only because little Rykard coincidentally gave her the chance to hide her smile before Radagon looked back to her.

"The boy must be punished!"

My, but he did look cross today. Was he still angry over his previous prank? She'd found more feathers in hair last night. That been one of his better ones.

Radagon wasn't a bad father. Really, he wasn't. Through love, the Golden Order had won what it could not through war. Likewise he took great pride in their children for the most part. Radahn was a loyal adherent to the Order and Ranni an Empyrean, one who might one day succeed Queen Marika herself.

By contrast, Rykard was none of these things.

Their third child might clever perhaps, but a clever prankster was a prankster still. He lacked ambition; what little he did possess was often turned toward new tricks and spells. Where Radahan mastered swordsmanship and Ranni her cold sorceresses, Rykard would rather rediscover lost spells and tame his beasts.

Honestly, if he ever managed to befriend that glintstone dragon near the lake, she was going to laugh herself silly. Radagon would probably tear his hair out.

Ah, but her beloved was looking to her for an answer and she must attend.

"...if you think you can catch him, you're welcome to try."

Nevermind that the boy had never once been caught for his so-called "blasphemy".

Radagon absolutely growled. "Perhaps I shall."

No, no, no. Not having that tone.

"Indeed?" she quirked a brow at him, a hint of steel creeping into her voice. "Careful now, husband of mine. Though he may play the fool, our son is a demigod nevertheless. He has command over creatures you cannot BEGIN to imagine. You would be wise not to underestimate him."

He scowled at her. "You baby the boy."

Ah. They were coming back to this old argument, were they?

"And you do not give poor Rykard enough attention." she snapped at him. "Perhaps if his "father" didn't keep running off the capital, he wouldn't have grown up this way. No," her hand turned his face back to hers when he made to look away. "You've not given him half the affection you gave Radahn, let alone Ranni.

Radagon looked down with a grunt. "This cannot continue."

"If you cannot bring yourself to bond with the boy, find him a companion or two." she stepped to him and laid a hand on his arm. "Perhaps if he had a few friends, he would not feel so isolated in his godhood."

He wouldn't look at her, but she felt his resolve waver. "Sellen is adequate, isn't she?"

Blast, he was going to be difficult about this, wasn't he?" "She is his teacher, beloved. Moreover, she has her own studies. You cannot expect the poor girl to be there for him every moment of every day."

Radagon grunted. "A consort, then?"

"Perhaps." she tugged him closer to keep him from wriggling away. "Rykard is yet young and hasn't shown much interest in romance. But was not Radahn the same before he met young Friede?" a faint smile tugged at the corner of her mouth. "Now he's head over heels."

"I still say that woman is a heretic." Radagon grumbled as her head came to rest upon his shoulder. "I dislike her blackflame incantations. They too, border on blasphemy."

"Non of that!" Rennala pinched his arm. "You know as well as I that those spells were neutered with the death of the Gloam-Eyed-Queen. Malekith saw to that." when he didn't answer she gave him another tweak. "Don't make that face. You've already nearly made an enemy of one of your sons. I suggest you do not repeat the offense, lest you turn Radahn against you."

"..."

She squeezed his arm. "Dear."

His fingers drummed against the balcony rail. "...I'll consider it."

Rennala refused to let him wriggle out of it. "Consider what, husband of mine?"

Radagon gnashed his teeth. "I...shall see to finding the boy a companion. But only if he curbs his pranks-

An eerie amber glyph flashed to life beneath his palm. Rennala saw it and dove for cover at once.

Not so Radagon. He wasn't quite quick enough.

THOOM!

A muffle explosion rocked their chambers, kicking up a cloud of smoke.

Rennala stood, dusted her robes off and waved the haze away with a simple spell. What was that stain on her robes? Orange dye? Oh, dear. She paused. Blinked once. Blinked again now as she beheld her son's latest "blasphemy" before her eyes. While she'd escaped the brunt of the blast, her poor husband hadn't been quite so fortunate. st, coated in orange dye from head to toe. Years from now, she would remember his stupefied expression; the baffled look he wore, the faint twitch of his right eye.

This time, she couldn't hide her laughter.

Radagon howled at the sky.

"RYKAAAAAAAAAARD!"

Naruto whistled innocently as a scream echoed int he distance.

There was nothing quite like an early morning prank to get his blood pumping. Really, riling the old man was right up there with some of his best achievements.

He smiled softly to himself. "Ain't that right, Irving?"

His serpent hissed pleasantly as it coiled round his right arm.

"Good boy." He patted the his scaly head. "I knew you'd understand~!

Slipping through the halls, he skirted a chagrined servant, moved three doors down, paused before the fourth and slipped inside.

A spellbolt whistled his way. He swayed aside with a yawn, letting it fizzle harmlessly against the door proper.

"You are late, my apprentice."

"Eh, am I?" he uttered a low, jaw-dropping yawn as he slunk into the classroom and scratched back of his head with his right hand, careful to keep the left concealed behind his back. "Sorry about that. I was working on a new spell."

Really, you couldn't even call it a classroom. It was wide, yes but also relatively bare; reinforced stone walls and a hardened floor sporting only a single desk, a chair and...

...one very cross Sellen.

"Were you, now?" He couldn't see his mentor's face beneath her Glintstone crown, but he could sense her irritation all the same. "What have you concocted this time? Another lewd trick?"

A crass smile plucked at the corner of his mouth. "Depends on your definition of the word."

...oh?"

Sellen had been thrown to him as a bone of sorts by Radagon. She was meant to be both his teacher and his minder, someone to both watch him and keep the worst of his pranks under wraps. She really didn't care for the latter, but as a teacher, there was no one better. Sure, she wasn't stronger than masters Azur and Lusat, he didn't care about that.

When it came to new spells there was no one more eager than she.

Best gift Radagon -not calling him Dad, not the way that ass acted- ever gave him. He could still go suck a lemon for all he cared. Rennala was alright for a mom. At least she seemed to understand. He knew as the third son of three, nothing was expected of him. Some might have balked at that, railed, rallied even. Tried to prove others wrong. Not him

Most expected him to be quiet. A loyal adherent to Lucaria and the Golden Order. Too bad. He'd intended to enjoy himself.

"Very well." she hummed. "Show me this spell of yours."

He snapped his fingers. Her robes blew upward beneath an abrupt gust of wind. Huh. Black lace.

She didn't so much as shriek, pausing only to smooth her gown down. "You go too far, my student."

"Do I?" He tilted his head her away, and something in his smile made her quiver. "I think I haven't gone far enough. I'm just getting started. Someday I'll create a spell that'll really shock everyone~!"

Her gaze zeroed in on his arm, still hidden behind his back. "What do you have there?"

The jig was up! He whipped his hand out, revealing that which he'd hidden.

...flowers?"

He grinned at her. "Marry me!"

"This again?" Sellen tutted softly, a wry note of amusement weaving its way into her words. "How quaint." Her head tilted, face unseen beneath her crown. "You get points for persistence, I suppose." she leaned down to flick his forehead. "But you're still much too young. Whatever would your mother say?"

Quite a bite probably, the word "grandchildren" chief among them. "When I'm older, then!"

She laughed. "I'll consider it, if your sorceries ever surpass mine."

He offered her his hand. "Its a promise, then."

Sellen watched him go.

She massaged her arm and shivered.

For a moment there, she'd thought her life was in peril. He who showed no ambition, but possessed near limitless talent; the kind that came along once in a millennia. Power that, in the right hands, might grow to eclipse the very gods themselves. Dangerous. This boy was going to be very dangerous indeed when he grew up...assuming he survived to adulthood. No. He would. He simply must.

She would not see such strength go to waste.

"Sssss?"

"Aw, don't be that way." Naruto gave Irving's little head a pat as he threaded his way out into the courtyard. "I'm sure she'll come around eventually."

His partner didn't seem much pleased about that for some reason, if the sudden surge of discontent was anything to go by. Something to consider for later, he supposed. The ability to commune with beasts was useful, taming them even moreso. His second life had proven useful in that regard. Among other things.

"...!"

"Yeah, yeah, I hear ya." he gave the presence in himself the equivalent of a mental pat. "I'm sorry I haven't let you out to play in awhile. Trying to take it easy this time around."

Gifts aside, Sellen really was the only one who took his teasing in stride. But with his lessons done for the day, he found himself adrift. He'd given Ranni enough trouble for one week, didn't want to bother Blaidd, and he really wasn't keen on going anywhere near mom or dad after that orange dye prank. Which left...

No, no, Radahn and Jerren were still in Caelid. Boo. There really wasn't anything to do today.

He considered the courtyard anew. Not a soul to be seen. Most of the scholars had fled at his presence for fear of falling victim to one of his pranks. Couldn't much blame them. Fortunately for them, his next masterpiece would take at least a few days. It also hinged on some...outside help.

"Hmm." he thumbed his chin. "Maybe I should try to find that dragon by the lake again?" the question was directed to himself as much as the guests within him. "Never managed to tame one of those bastards. Would you like that?

"...yes."

"Then its settled!"

His sixth sense shrieked.

A shadow fell over him from on high.

He heard its voice a heartbeat later: "Look out belooow~!"

Naruto dove forward with a hiss; just as well he did too; not a moment later, he heard an awful sound like so much rolling thunder as something -someone!- came crashing down into the space he'd just vacated. A clou of roaring dust burst forth, blinding him. A mighty figure rose from the haze, looming large in the yard...

Crazy bastard! You almost squashed me flat!

"Impressive! Most impressive!" They righted themselves with a grunt, swords in hand, grinning ear to ear. You did well to dodge that, little brother! I'll make a swordsman out of you yet!"

.

..

...ask and you shall receive.

"Are you kidding me?!" coughing at them, Naruto warded one hand before his face. "You did NOT fly all the way here from the Caelid! That's bullshit! Even for you!"

Irving bared his fangs and hissed furiously on his shoulder, echoing that particular statement tenfold.

"Nonsense!" Radahn righted giant elder brother boomed a laugh. "I'm certain you can take it!"

"Take what?!" He shook a fist at him. "Being pounded into a pancake?!"

Radahn didn't listen to him. He never did. "Have at thee!"

He lunged, forcing him to bring up his staff to defend.

"Will you listen to me, oi?!"

He parried and his lovable bull of a brother barged past. Radahn pivoted with frightful speed for one so large and raised his blades high with a cry.

Gravity yanked Naruto forward like a fish on a string. Even after all these years, he still hadn't found a counter to that spell.

"Will you!" He could only parry. "Listen!" Riposte. "To me?!" Defend.

"I shall listen after you best me, Rykard!"

He twitched. "Fine. En garde!"

"That's the spirit!"

He couldn't even bring himself to be mad at the big lug; no in the truest sense of the word. Radahn was just...nice. Too nice, some might say. The selfless kind of brother that would gladly give you the cloak off his bac in an instant, a warrior good that knew only one way forward and would accept no other. Just the hero that got killed off early in all the storybooks he'd read. One of these days his honor would almost certainly land him in a heap of trouble. But not this day, and not on his watch. If that meant he humored his attempts to teach him the art of the blade...so be it. At least it gave him the chance to ferret out more of his gravity spells, so it wasn't a total loss.

He flung a magma hex in Radahn's face and realized his mistake a moment later. Fire didn't work on his brother. And then he caught him.

The Starscourge greatswords swept down. Twisted at the last moment. Smashed him into the ground.

Radahn rumbled a low laugh. "Your skills have improved once more."

Naruto groaned into the dirt. "You squashed me flat!"

"Well, I am three times your size."

"Bloody giant bastard...

"What art thou doing?!" a shrill shout brought them up short. "Cease at once! Before you destroy the entire yard again!"

"Hmm?" Radahn paused. Naruto joined him. Both boys pivoted. Much to Naruto's chagrin, Radahn beat him to the punch. "Ah, dear sister! Join us! We can make a grand melee of this!"

...I think not!"

Wuh-oh. There she stood, fists planted on her hips, face writ from thunder. A chagrined Blaidd beside her. He supposed it was too much to hope he'd be able to delay her.

"What am I do to with the two o you?" Ranni ran a hand through her crimson hair. "You'll be the death of me at this rate."

Naruto exchanged a look with Radahn. "Truce?"

A slow grin crept across the gentle giant's face. "Indeed, brother of mine!"

Radahn reached down and hoisted him to his feet. As one, they turned to face her.

Ranni's already pale complexion drained of color altogether.

"No." her lips pursed in a thin line. "Don't you dare."

They dared alright.

Blaid grabbed her from behind, securing her in a full nelson. "I've got her arms!"

"Traitor!" Ranni kicked out against her shadow to no avail. "Treason! Treachery! Back! Both of thee! I swear if you even try to tickle meeeeeeep!"

Her defiance -and her words!- piqued into a shriek as they dove on her. She fell back with a squeal of laughter but only for a moment. Then she broke free and gave as good as she got. Blaidd was the first to fall to her cold fingers, dropping with a startled squawk. Radahn didn't last much longer. Worth it!

Everything descended into chaos.

Naruto found himself smiling despite his fall.

Maybe this second life wouldn't be so bad after all.

"Wake up, boy."

Not a pleasant awakening by any means, but there it was.

Naruto rolled over, blinking blearily in the gloom. A lantern flicked on the wall, casting baleful shadows across his room.

He'd hardly expected to wake and find someone standing over him, least of all Radagon. His face was carved from stone. No, that wasn't quite it. He glimpsed the faintest of smiles on the face of his "father", yet despite it or perhaps in spite of it, he felt no ill intent.

.

..

...well, this boded poorly.

His old man was grimly pleased about something. He'd seen that look before. It instantly put him on edge.

He feigned sleepiness, reaching under his pillow behind his back. "What's the big idea...?"

"Pack you things." Radagon didn't budge. "We are going on a journey, you and I."

"Excuse me?" His hand stilled around the explosive kunai he'd concealed for just such an occasion. "Where are we going?"

"To the capital."

He had a bad feeling about this. His brow furrowed. "Why?"

Radagon dithered for a moment. sighed. "Your mother wishes for you and I to bond."

Naruto bit his lip. That was it?! He knew the old man was awkward at times, but to be this bad...?

He flopped back onto his pillow with a groan. "That's great an' all, but its early. The sun's not even up yet."

"Indeed it isn't." Radagon grunted in approval. "But the moon is."

...I don't follow. No, nevermind." he shook his head and stifled a yawn with the back of his hand. "Don't suppose I can turn ya down?"

"No." Radagon refuted him with a shake of the head. "You cannot. I shan't take no for an answer."

An awful thought occurred to Naruto. "Ain't the Greater Will in the capital?"

"It is. I shall take you to see it during the course of our journey." Why did he sound so proud about that part?! "Perhaps it shall grant you some small smidgen of its wisdom."

Icy cold dread erupted in his heart.

No, no, no! He wasn't here to get involved with gods and their emissaries; least of all one who dedicated itself to something boring like Order. The Greater Will might take one look at him and realize just what -who!- he was, and that would ruin everything. Or it might not, but he wasn't about to risk his happiness. This was meant to be his vacation! No stress, no mess, and certainly no prostrating himself before some high-and-mighty deity.

He didn't think for a moment that a God of Order would approve of his so-called

Honestly, he considered rolling over, tucking himself back under the blankets, and telling Radagon to bugger off right then and there. It was early, he was tired, and this...he had no idea what this was. But his father felt so damnably earnest. He was trying, making an effort to connect with him as he hadn't since the moment of his rebirth. Of all the times for him to care...!

'No, no, calm down, Naruto. There has to be a way out of this...

"When are we going?" he asked instead.

The response was immediate. "Now."

"On foot or by spell?"

"Foot."

...alright, what the actual hell. He squinted, eyes finally adjusting in the low light enough to finally see something more than a silhouette. Radagon was wearing the armor mom gave him; a fine suit of golden-azure plate that blended the best aspects of the Golden Order and Raya Lucaria. Moreover, he could see his moonlight greatsword gleaming at his side, and the heavy pack nestled between his armored shoulders. He'd clearly gone to great lengths to prepare himself. He jostled the latter now as he looked on.

"You need not worry; I have already procured supplies for our journey." A pause as he seemed to consider something. "You may bring your serpent-

"His name is Irving."

A sleepy hiss echoed from the corner of the room.

-Irving," Radagon corrected with a nod toward his pet, "And your staff, of course. Your witch, however will remain."

Naruto tilted his head. "Say her name."

...must you be difficult about this?"

"Yes." he sniffed. "I must."

...Sellen."

"Fine." He clearly wasn't getting out of this without a fight. "Don't suppose you'll let me say goodbye to Mom and the others, first?"

"And give you a chance to escape, sweeting?" Rennala of all people materialized at Radagon's elbow, wearing a bemused smile. He balked at her...and the words that followed. "I think not. Come, now. Don't make that face, Rykard. This will be good for the two of you. You'll have a chance to connect with one another as you haven't before."

Radagon grunted. "...it will only be a few months."

Naruto glared at him. "I have friends here, I can't just vanish-

Rennala beamed proudly. "I've already taken the liberty of informing your siblings and Sellen."

Naruto felt a little pang of betrayal at her presence. Her argument, moreso. Mom meant well. He knew that. She always did. Rennala didn't have a mean bone in her body. But didn't she see how much trouble this was for him?! Radagon was both a loyal and leal hound to the Greater Will, a deity he himself wanted nothing to do with. He might even choose it over them if push came to shove. And she still wanted them to travel together despite that?! Alone?! Even a blind man could see this was a bad idea! Was she trying to get him killed?!

.

..

...no, of course not. How could she? She'd no idea who he was, of the life he'd lived before this. She was trying to be a good mother and wife. Anyone else would've been commended for such. Rennala loved her family more than life itself. She would do anything to make them happy. Even concocting a hair-brained scheme like this.

"Please," he begged, hating how weak he sounded. "I...I don't want to go.

His parents didn't budge in the face of his appeal. Either of them.

Naruto felt his face harden. Well, then!

His gaze strayed to his bedroom window, open a crack to let the breeze in. Only one thing for it. He could probably survive a fall from this height. From there it would just be a matter of hiding out in the academy, avoiding them, until they put this mad idea to bed. It'd be a shame to hurt their feelings, but needs must he supposed. He simply couldn't let himself be brought before the Greater Will. There was too much at stake. If they forced him to meet that...thing, he'd be dragged into a mess against his will. He just knew it. His legs tensed, smiling fading as his family looked on.

He lunged for the window. "You'll never take me alive!"

A circlet of moonlight blue bands cause him in midleap, rendering his lunge a lurch that left him flopping on the floor, a proverbial fish out of water.

Radagon hadn't been the one to cast them.

Mom had.

"I wasn't asking, dear." Rennala smiled at Radagon, then. It was not a nice smile. Not by any means or measure. "You will be kind to our son. If I hear you've harmed so much as a hair on his head...

Radagon grunted. "I won't."

"You best not.

Naruto whistled softly.

"Jeez, mom. You're kinda scary...

Inwardly, however, he seethed silently.

He would remember this treachery. Ever bit. All of it.

Everything that followed this moment would be their fault.

A/N: Don't wrong a master prankster; he'll prank you into oblivion.

Father/Son bonding and a journey through the Lands Between? God of War vibes? This can only end well.

Funny thing is, Radagon's actually trying to be a dad here at Rennala's prodding. No ulterior motives.

Well? Should this little ficlet be a story? Yay or nay!

Does Naruto have the Biju within him? You'll have to wait and see.

But that beast taming bit we hinted at earlier? Haven't even scratched the surface yet.

If this story is voted into the "yay" category, I can promise much more merry madness to come.

And romance of course, can't forget that. Gotta bring little Rya into the world somehow now, don't we?!

"Well, well! Ain't often you scholarly-types leave the academy."

"Do you have any idea who we are?"

"Dad. Leave it."

...I do not hate you, son."

"I don't hate you, either, dad." Rykard shouldered his pack and looked away, face hidden in shadow. "I just don't CARE. I stopped caring what you thought of me a long time ago."

"...!"

A shrill scream pierced the plains of the Atlas Plateau.

"Why do you do this to me, fate?" His son sighed. "Can't I just enjoy my life in peace?

For the first time in all the years Radagon had known him, his son raised his staff and stomped toward the noise. After a moment pause Radagon himself followed.

He would pretend he hadn't heard that last part just now.

Naruto raised a hand. "Funny thing about snakes. They're more than they appear. Irving? Wanna do the honors?"

His most cherished friend perked up on his shoulder.

And he gave the command.

"EAT."

"MAMA SAID KNOCK YOU OUT!"

"Well, you certainly did that to them...
