Thank you all so much for the positive feedback! I know I usually don't update the same story twice in a row but I just couldn't help myself. Please enjoy!
Lucy glanced at the clock for what felt like the hundredth time. It was almost two in the morning and Freed had gone to sneak into his father's study twenty minutes ago. She was feeling nervous that he got caught in the act, stealing his father's money that was locked away in a safe. They did so much for him, the least he could do was spare them some jewel.
She stood up to go see if he was alright but as soon as she reached for the handle, the door opened. She sighed in relief at the sight of her husband and wrapped her arms around him. "I was worried! What took so long?"
Freed gently rubbed her head. "I apologize, the safe was more complicated than I had anticipated. It was my first time using runes to unlock something. There was also a sleeping guard inside so I needed to be very quiet."
"How much did you grab?" She pulled back from the hug.
"I grabbed five hundred thousand, that should help us with travel expenses, food, and a home until we can officially join the guild and take on missions. I am expecting us to have to start with simple missions since we both are not quite strong enough for the higher paying ones. The jewel will help us until we are able to practice some more and take on harder jobs." He made his way over to the closet and pulled out two small bags. Just the essentials.
She twiddled her fingers and bit her lip nervously. "A home... t-together?" She felt a small blush appear on her cheeks at the surprised look he had. Perhaps she was expecting too much from him, maybe he really didn't want to be with her after they escaped.
He stood after placing the envelope full of jewel in his bag and slid the strap on his shoulder. He grabbed her bag before walking over to her and handing it to the blushing blonde. "Of course, why would we not live together? You are my wife."
Heat filled her entire face and she placed the strap of her bag on her shoulder as well. "R-Right. I just thought..."
"That I wouldn't want to be with you?" He smiled at her stiff nod. "You have become an important part of my life, I would be disappointed if I had to live without you."
Lucy's heart was soaring and she firmly grabbed his hand, smiling brightly up at him. "Let's get outta her."
"Right." He nodded.
Freed pulled out a pen and began writing the runes in front of Lucy. It only took him a few minutes to write hers, and as soon as she started to disappear, he focused on his own runes. After he was finished, he placed the pen in his pocket and grabbed her hand. He opened their bedroom door and glanced down each way of the hall. Once he saw that it was clear, they dashed down the empty hall, their bare feet silent against the carpet. They needed to be as quiet as possible as to not alert the well trained guards.
Turning a corner, they came to a halt at the sight of some guards speaking in front of the entrance. They couldn't speak, and Freed had never been more thankful that both of their fathers forced them to learn Morse code. He tapped his finger against the back of her hand in their silent communication. "Need a window."
"Where." She tapped his hand back.
Freed looked around and saw an open door. With a firm grip of her hand, he dragged her over to the room. He glanced around and silently cursed at the sight of a guard staring out of the window. He pulled her along down a different hall and just as he was about to turn a corner, he was suddenly yanked back. He lost his balance but was caught by the woman behind him. He stared with wide eyes as two chatting guards passed them and disappeared into another room.
Lucy let out a breath and stood him up, panting slightly. "God, you're heavy." She whispered. When she heard him shift to face her, she reached to where she remembered his forehead would be, and gave it a flick. "Are you stupid? I know you're getting frustrated but you need to focus! I could hear them talking before we even reached the corner." She whisper-yelled.
He rubbed at his forehead with his free hand. "Apologies, I am just eager to leave." He whispered back. He took a deep breath and shook his head. They had time, he needed to focus. Their safety was his number one priority and he needed to act like it. With one final breath, he glanced around the corner. It was clear of any guards so he led her down it. He couldn't let go of her hand or he would lose her, and that's the last thing he wanted to do. He noticed an open door and quickly made his way over. He almost weeped at the sight of the empty room and they both entered. He let go of Lucy's hand so he could push open the window as soon as he heard her gently shut the door.
The blonde made her way over to the window and started to wave her hands around to feel for her invisible husband. Her hand smacked against his arm and she smiled, sliding her hand down to hold his once more. "I was kind of hoping my hand would bump into your ass." She snickered.
Freed blushes and shook his head. "This is hardly the time for your teasing." He hops out of the window, his hand still holding hers. The window was up to his head and he reached for her to help her down.
"You love my teasing." She says when her feet hit the grass. She pulls down her bag and takes out a pair of shoes, Freed doing the same.
With their shoes slipped on, Freed made a grab for her and his hand landed on her shoulder. "Let us go, My Dear."
As he pulled her along, she couldn't help but grin. "I bet you were hoping you would accidentally bump my boobs." She laughed quietly when she heard him choke.
"P-Please keep quiet, we are nearing the guards again." He was blushing furiously, and he could tell that she knew he was without even having to see him. He loved that she was getting comfortable with him, but this was not the time for that!
He pulled her along towards the main entrance and saw four guards standing at the opening. He was so glad his father saw it as a hassle to install a gate around the estate. He claimed it was too large for any fencing and that bushes would look much nicer, also stating that their guards were of top quality so there was no need. Freed bet that he would be eating his words soon.
Lucy felt like a breath of fresh air filled her lungs when they walked past the guards and off of the property. When they were far enough, she couldn't help but let out a squeal and throw her arms around his neck. "We did it!"
Freed pulled out his pen and erased the runes, smiling down at the woman of his dreams. There were tears of happiness in her eyes and she looked so beautiful. "Indeed we did." He couldn't stop himself- no, he didn't stop himself from leaning down and finally capturing her lips in a gentle kiss. They were soft, just as he expected they would be.
Threading her fingers through his hair never felt so good as she pulled him closer to deepen the kiss. He wasn't lying when he said he would set a proper mood before kissing her. She just knew at that very moment she confirmed; she was in love with Freed Justine.
Pulling away from her lips was almost painful, but they needed to leave. "Let us be off, the next train to magnolia will be departing shortly." Thank the heavens for twenty-four-hour train stations.
Freed dug trough his bag as his sleeping wife rested her head against his shoulder. They had made it just in time to catch the train to Magnolia. They were pretty much the only ones on board, which didn't surprise him in the slightest. It was three in the morning after all. His fingers wrap around the ball and he pulls it from the bag. Sending a burst of magic into the lacrima, he waited for his friend to answer. It took a moment, but soon the groggy face of Laxus appeared. "Hello, Laxus."
"Freed, why the fuck are you calling me at this hour?" He grumbled.
He gave the blonde a triumphant smile. "We have officially escaped and will be arriving in Magnolia in ten minutes."
It look Laxus a moment to process what his friend just said. Escaped? What... His eyes widen in realization. "No way."
The green haired mage watched in delight at his happy friend. "I also kissed Lucy."
"No fuckin' way!" Laxus grinned. This man had it all at that moment. A hot as hell wife, his first kiss, and freedom. Freedom. "I'll get some pants on and meet you there."
"You do not have to, Laxus." Freed assured him. He was glad that his friend was so willing to help him.
"I know I don't, but you've never been here so let me help you out. Let's celebrate your freedom, Man!" There's shuffling on his end as he gets out of bed.
"Celebrate at three in the morning?" Freed mused. "Is there anything even open?"
"My house is open. We can celebrate here, I got beer and a spare bedroom." With his pants secured around his hips, he then went searching for a shirt. "I'll see you in a bit."
The lacrima went black and Freed placed it back in his bag. The announcement went off that they would be arriving shortly and he took that as his cue to wake up the sleeping blonde. "Lucy," He placed his hand on her shoulder and gave it a gentle shake. "It is time to wake up, we will be there momentarily."
Her eyes fluttered opened and she sat up, stretching her arms above her head. She let out a contented sigh and looked up at the beautiful man. "There already?" She yawns. "I feel like I've been sleeping for five minutes."
"Put a zero next to that five and you would be correct." He chuckled. When their eyes met, he leaned down for a quick kiss. "I love you, Lucy."
Her eyes widened as the train came to a stop. "You do?" At his nod, she smiled widely and kissed him once more. "I love you too, Freed. This feels like a dream." She had always wanted the fairy tale love, the one that had her Prince Charming coming to rescue her from her father. Freed was no knight in shining armour, but his red tailcoat seemed to fit him much better than a bunch of metal. He was most definitely charming, and handsome enough to be a prince, so she saw no difference. In fact, she couldn't have found anyone better.
It wasn't all in the sense that she had always fantasized about; A knight charging in on his horse to fight for her hand. He would come because he heard tales of her beauty, would fight his way through the guards just to see her. He would sweep her off her feet and run away with her in his arms so they may live a peaceful life with many children.
It wasn't what she imagined, and that's what made it better. Freed was perfect. He did in fact sweep her off her feet when they first met. Well, more like she tripped on a stick and fell on her ass but whatever. He didn't come riding in on a horse and fight his way through, but he did fight off the ones who tried to take her away from him. He didn't run away with her in his arms, but they worked together to run away. They weren't going to live a peaceful life, but working at a guild would be much more fun. And the many children? Well, she would just have to wait to see what the future had in store for her.
He pinched her arm and smirked when she glared at him. "I can assure you that this is no dream." He stood and grabbed his bag. "Let us depart, there is a surprise waiting for you."
Her eyes shone and she quickly stood. "A surprise? But you've already done enough." She grabs her bag and follows him off of the train. He said nothing when they got off and wondered what could be waiting for her. She glanced around but there was pretty much nothing and nobody. Her eyes land on a tall figure leaning against the wall where the light doesn't reach. It sent a shiver down her spine and she grabbed Freed's sleeve. "Babe..." She noticed that her husband was walking towards that figure and she pulled him to a stop. "What are you doing? That guy is super creepy."
Freed looked at her weirdly before chuckling. "It's your surprise."
She blanched at that and he took to opportunity to pull her along towards the man. "Freed, no. If this is a joke it's not funny." She tried to pull him to a stop again but he resisted, pulling her instead. Her heart pounded as the figure moved to face them. Oh god, did she just fall in love with someone who's involved with sketchy shit? "Noooo...!" She blinked. "Oh."
The rune mage shook his head. "I don't know why you were acting so scared, it's just-"
"Laxus!" She beamed. A Fairy Tail mage in the flesh! And one of the strongest at that! She moved closer to the taller blonde, her fists clenched tightly in excitement. "It really is you."
Laxus stared down at the woman practically bouncing where she stood, excitement all over her face. Was meeting him really that big of a deal? Or was it because he was a Fairy Tail member?
"Where is your guild mark? Can I see it?"
Well, that answered that question. "I'd have to take off my shirt if you wanted to see it." He watched her pout and stand next to Freed. The blonde woman was a bit shorter than he thought she would be, but damn was she hot. Freed scored big. He noticed that their clothes stood out way too much, both looking too fancy for an old station like this. "C'mon, let's go to my place and get you some real clothes."
As the tall blonde led them down the street, Lucy couldn't help but start off with some questions. "What's the Salamander like?"
Laxus scoffed. "Childish, destructive, and beyond annoying."
"What about Mirajane?" She tilts her head. She had read about how strong and loyal the Salamander was so she wasn't really expecting all of that.
"Annoying."
She frowned. "What about Max?"
"Annoying."
"Erza?"
"Very annoying."
She crossed her arms and silently fumed. "Then what about Master Makorov?"
"Annoying."
Freed could see how upset his wife was getting and placed his hand on her back. "Laxus is not a very social person, My Dear." He tries to calm her down. "We will find out soon what kind of people they are."
Lucy huffed and nodded. "So far I can see that the only annoying one is Sparky over there."
Laxus paused in his walking and Freed choked. The blonde turned and glared down at the smaller blonde. "I'm doing the gracious deed of giving you guys a place to stay, and that's how you thank me?"
She stepped closer and returned his glare. "We never asked for you to let us stay there, we can afford a hotel just fine."
"I even offered you clothes." He crosses his arms.
She mimics his action. "If they're anything close to your style, then I'll thank you for not giving them to me. Cheeta print, seriously?"
Freed stepped forward and waved his hands. "Now now, there is no need for fighting. We are to be a team, remember?" He was internally panicking at their little quarrel. He didn't want the two people he cared for most hating each other. He had to blanch when Laxus grinned and started laughing.
"You're a feisty one, aren't ya?" The lightning mage cackled. "You'll fit in perfectly."
Lucy smirked in triumph and laced her arm with her stunned husband. "Hear that? Sounds like Fairy Tail is fun."
Freed felt his eyebrow twitch when she beamed up at him. He never expected to fall in love with a woman so... He didn't even know how to phrase it. She was kind of crazy, but not in a bad way. She was the complete opposite of himself and he had never been more attracted to her than at that very moment. How she stood toe to toe with one of the strongest mages in magnolia and acted like it was nothing. She even insulted his style of clothing! "Right, let us be off." He sighs.
An hour later found the blonde woman drunken in love as she leaned against Freed with a bright flush on her face. "Freeeed~" She slurred. "I love you."
Freed sighed and swatted at her hand when she went to reach for a new drink. "Yes, you've said that a dozen times now." His eyes move to watch the other blonde dance around in the kitchen. Freed had chose not to drink because he only really liked wine or champagne. Lucy had wanted to try beer for the first time when Laxus offered, and she didn't necessarily like it, but she wanted to know what it was like to get drunk. After she had started to get tipsy, she clung to him like he would disappear. Even when he got up to use the bathroom just a few minute prior, she had started sobbing because she thought he was leaving her for good. He assured her that he would be back shortly, and when he did, she flung herself at him, spewing about how she thought he wanted a divorce.
This night proved to him that he would not be letting her get drunk again.
He glanced down at the happy woman again. "Perhaps we should be off to bed. We have not had a proper sleep in almost twenty-four hours."
"Only if you carry me." She grins up at him.
He sighs and stands, placing his hand in front of her face to halt her oncoming complaints. When her mouth snaps shut, he reaches down to scoop her up into his arms. "Fine."
Lucy blushes and grabs his shoulders to make sure she doesn't fall. "I was only teasing."
Freed shrugs and begins to make his way to the spare bedroom. "We are off to bed, Laxus." He calls.
"Make sure to not be too loud!" Laxus cackles.
The green haired mage flushes and quickens his pace. He enters through the open door and uses his foot to shut it behind him. He walks over to the bed and gently sets her down on the soft sheets.
"What did Laxus mean when he said 'don't be loud'?" She asks as she sways back and forth, a smile gracing her lips.
Freed's blush deepens and he shakes his head. "Do not worry, My Dear. He was only teasing." He heard her mumble to herself in confusion and he grabbed their bags to pull out clothes to sleep in. He grabbed her nightgown and held it out for her. "Here you are." Oh dear. He thought as she gave him a devious grin.
She swatted the clothing from his hands and grabbed at his shirt, tugging it in his moment of surprise and pulling him to the bed. He landed with a small grunt and she rolled him on his back so she could straddle his hips. She was feeling pretty dizzy after those fast movements, but she couldn't help but feel giddy as she stared down at what seemed to be two Freed's.
He stared up at her in surprise and chokes on his spit when he feels her hands start to glide up his shirt and over his bare skin. "L-Lucy! You are not in the right s-state of mind to be doing this!"
Her hands stop at his ribs and she pouts at him. Leaning down, she presses her lips against his ear. "Don't you wanna touch me?" She whispers before letting her tongue flick out to slide along the shell of his ear.
He gasps and his face feels like it's on fire. "I-It's not that." He feels his hands twitch at his sides and clenches his fists. He really did want to touch her, but she wasn't thinking clearly.
She nibbled on his ear and brushed her thumbs over his nipples, smirking when she felt him shudder. "Then what is it?" Her eyelids felt heavy and her blinks became slower, but that didn't stop her hands from continuing to enjoy the feel of his well sculpted body.
"Of course I would love to touch you, however you are intoxicated and as a gentleman, I refuse to lay a finger on you in any s-sexual manner." Her touch stilled and he waited for her to start bursting into tears again. He waited and waited but there was nothing, not a single movement. Then he heard it; light snoring. He let out a breath of relief. She had fallen asleep and at the perfect time.
He carefully rolls her off of him and stared down at her. She was still in the clothes that Laxus had given her, but it was a very large shirt that reached her knees and she wore her underwear underneath. He figured it was fine for her to sleep in that since he didn't want to undress her without her permission. Pulling back the covers, he laid the blanket on top of the sleeping woman and let out a sigh. She was definitely a handful while drunk.
He grabbed his own nightclothes and changed into them quickly, his face heating slightly in embarrassment at the thought of being naked in front of Lucy. Even though she was sleeping, it still felt somehow wrong.
As he was about to join her under the covers, he stopped. He stared at her sleeping form once more before frowning as a memory popped into his head. She had told him that if she wore her bra to bed then she would end up with painful marks on her skin. He didn't want her to be in pain, but he also didn't want to invade her space like that. He weighed the options and decided to take it off for her. He figured she wouldn't mind, it wasn't like he was groping her or had any other ill intentions.
With a hard swallow, he turned her to her side and slid his hands up her shirt. He felt the need to shut his eyes as he felt around her back for the material. His fingers brushed against it and he started to feel around for the clip. This would be a lot easier if he actually looked, but he just couldn't bring himself to do it. He kept running his fingers over the back and frowned when he didn't feel anything fastening it. He paled when he realized what that meant.
Oh good heavens, is this a punishment or is this a blessing? He turned her to lay on her back once more and pulled his hands away. His palms felt sweaty as he took a shuddering breath, his eyes still closed. Come on, Justine, you are her husband! There is no need to get all flustered. You are just helping her so she is not in more pain tomorrow. A hangover is plenty enough for her to deal with. His hands twitched and he led them up her shirt once more. His fingers grazed the underside of the fabric and he was able to find where the middle is from the dip. He trailed his fingers further up until he finally felt the clasp.
Quickly undoing the clasp, he almost weeped in joy when he figured out it was strapless. Using his free hand to lift her back, he pulled out the bra and threw it to the ground as if it burned his hand. He felt around for the covers and tossed them over her before finally opening his eyes. He groaned in defeat when he saw the blanket over her face and pulled it down to have it sit at her neck.
He felt hopeless. If he was getting this embarrassed from just removing her bra in a non-sexual way, he was going to die without ever being able to properly feel her against him.
He rubbed at his temples in frustration. Perhaps I only acted that way because she is asleep. Maybe it will be different once we actually have... He shook his head and crawled into bed. No point in fussing about it now, it will happen when it happens.
Freed just hoped he didn't make a complete fool of himself when it did.
Is it weird that I'm squealing at my own writing? "Why would we not live together? You are my wife." Ugh my HEART!!
It got a little spicy at the end there cause why not. I crave the sexual tension!!
