A/N: Thanks again for the support! I really do appreciate it! I've realised that so many things have changed since the last time I wrote, hence there is really too much to catch up on in terms of plot planning.

If I do progress far enough, I may need to edit the chapters that I had already written back then. I'll keep y'all informed!

Also, I'd like to do a little bit of a shoutout for all Mayumi fans! I highly recommend zetaetachi's story Rose Petals Borne on an Ocean Breeze, its brilliantly crafted, and honestly, Chapter 5 is so sweet that I'd really really like to borrow the concept (but it wouldn't be original!). Highly recommend it!

Additionally, I (actually) do have Chapter 14 almost completed. So I hope that I'll be able to push it out by the new year.

Merry Christmas all!

PS: does anyone want to be my beta? :") I'm toying with the idea, but am not too set yet so I'm exploring the option.

The Saegusa were renown as the best connected of the 10 Master Clans. Their intelligence network stretched across the entirety of Japan, with extensive networks through the underworld and even the military. Tapping on his table with his ivory fountain pen, Saegusa Koichi chewed on his lower gum.

It seemed… way too convenient that those kids, especially those Shiba kids were somehow involved whenever Mayumi defied him. Thinking back, it was probably those kids that initially sewed the seeds of discord between them. Her increased interaction with those commoners slowly influenced Mayumi to believe in the value of interacting with the masses far below her station in magical society. Their, so called 'friendship' altered his nigh perfect daughter to her current state who behaved far too familiarly with the commoners.

Furthermore, those siblings' sudden disappearance in her life coincided with her hardening of this stance. Koichi pursed his lips in frustration. 'The worst part of it was that Mayumi had once again become embroiled in this saga, where she outright refused my order to take this to the police!' Refusing one's Clan Head was virtually unheard of, yet Koichi was at a loss of what to do.

On one hand, Mayumi did not behave according to his wishes, yet it could not be said that she did not uphold her side of the bargain that they had upon her entrance to high school. She was, after all, highly respected and well thought of both by the students and the faculty. Her moniker as the "Elfin Sniper" further showcased her regard on the National stage. It was just that, she behaved… unsuitably for the 10 Master Clans.

Wrecking his brains and his network as hard as he had, his search for information regarding the Shiba siblings brought about close to no useful information. It was almost as if there was an iron dome over their identities.

Sipping his cup of carefully crafted coffee, Tatsuya thanks Honami and Miyuki for the breakfast. It was early, yet he could tell that the weather was probably going to be fairly unpleasant, courtesy of the advent of Summer that was looming upon them.

Unfortunately, high schools in this day and age did not allow for the use of modified Summer uniforms. Even so, Tatsuya's multi-layered uniform was probably (he did not try) significantly warmer than the school's dress that Miyuki adorned.

"Ara, isn't this the best time to hold onto your sister?" Honami smiled as she washed the dishes beside Tatsuya, seemingly reading his mind from his simple glance at the sunshine that was beginning to creep through the kitchen window.

"Honami! I heard that!" Miyuki's shouted from her room as the temperature dropped slightly, causing both Tatsuya and Honami to laugh.

"So, Honami, what are your plans for the day then?"

"Well, usually in the Summer or the lead up to the Summer, I would follow Miya-sama to the pools or beach. But since you two are grown up now, I will probably be able to go for a swim on my own today." She smiled while they began drying the dishes.

"I see," Tatsuya simply smiled.

"Oh, isn't the 9 Schools Competition about to begin?"

"Yes, it should begin in a few weeks or so. I'm looking forward to seeing Miyuki compete."

"Ah yes, I guess then I should also carefully "insert" myself within the competition venue somewhere then." Honami began to scheme.

Having such a devoted guardian and mother figure certainly was something both the siblings appreciated.

As Tatsuya and Miyuki set off for school arms linked, Tatsuya certainly made sure to thank Miyuki for countering the weather.

Despite the increasing number of magical sports, some things just did not beat the raw thrill of a physical battle. In spite of the sweltering heat, 22 sweaty bodies were out on the almost unnaturally green, and moist pitch, courtesy of magic.

Facing an onrushing striker from 1F, Leo bounced on his toes, his weight balanced perfectly on the tip of his toes. Opening up his body in a feint, the striker immediately took the bait, pushing the football toward Leo's right.

'Gotcha!' Leo's predatory smile almost said as he tackled the poor sod. Looking up, he spotted Tatsuya moving toward the right half-space in the centre of midfield. Threading the ball to Tatsuya, Tatsuya began his usual practice of humiliating the opponent as he skilfully navigated himself through the opponent's midfield before chipping the ball toward 1E's best striker. The agile teen expertly took the ball down before finessing a shot into the corner of the opponent's net.

The whistle blew, and the teams lined up to shake hands.

"Its your fault we let in 2 goals Leo, 2!" Erika pointed her finger at him, admonishing the large centre back.

"Hey, I couldn't get there in time, if only someone else was covering me it would have been ok!"

"Well, its just a game, and besides we thrashed them 13-2," Tatsuya casually tossed out. His friends rolled their eyes at him. Tatsuya could be considered fairly aloof and mild, except when it came to his family and football.

"Hey, good game!" Tatsuya offered his hand to their star striker. Looking at Tatsuya in an almost embarrassed way, he took the hand, "Good game to you too."

"Yo, you were fantastic and all, getting a double hattrick?! That's amazing! I'm Leo by the way, and this is Tatsuya. Somehow we've never officially gotten to know one another." Leo grinned as one arm looped around Tatsuya while his right hand was offered to the teen.

"Nice to meet you too, I've been wanting to say hi for awhile, but somehow I never got the chance. I'm Yoshida Mikihiko, call me Mikihiko."

"Ooooh, Miki, you finally showed up! I was waiting for ya!" Popping into the conversation, their newfound friend began flustering again. "Don't call me Miki!"

The group looked at one another, before MIzuki asked what was on most of their minds, " Do you two know each other?"

"Yeah you could say we are childhood friends of sorts." Erika casually tossed up while Mikihiko continued wiping his sweat, nodding.

As Erika approached Mihikiho, his face began to colour visibly. Tatsuya raised his eyebrows while Leo began to express concern. "Mihikiho, are you alright?" "Yes I am, its just… Erika what are you wearing?!"

At that, they whipped their heads around, attention focused on Erika. Tatsuya's jaw slackened just a bit, while Leo's face began to colour. To say that her outfit was revealing was a bit of an understatement. Given the relative conservativeness of 2095's fashion, to say that her outfit was revealing was an understatement. Instead of the usual set of stockings and at least knee length shorts, erika wore a short sleeved shirt, and shorts that reached almost all the way up her legs, exposing her toned thighs.

Mizuki scratched her head awkwardly at the side, "I did tell her, but she said that our usual attire was highly restrictive." "Not to mention the heat, look at you!" Erika pointed, her face beginning to show signs of a blush forming as she attempted to deflect attention away from herself.

"B-but, those, aren't they called bloomers or something?" Mikihiko stuttered. "What have you been reading Miki?!" "I'm not Miki! It's Mikihiko!" Mikihiko and Erika began squabbling, before they were interrupted by Leo, "Aren't they things that Middle school students used to sell to old men?!"

The conversation stopped, and Tatsuya mentally facepalmed, looking away from the scene. A bright red Erika kicked out at Leo. "Baka! Hentai!" a loud thud could be heard before Leo started howling and grabbing his shin. Simultaneously, Erika also held her foot, trying to suppress tears.

"What kind of rock are you made of?!" She continued hopping while nursing her foot, deciding to never wear such an outfit again.

The mood within the Student Council was sombre. At the head of the table, President Mayumi was visibly frustrated. Tapping her slender index finger on her cheek, she let out a loud sigh and collapsed onto the table.

"Mou, why does it have to be so tough? Rin-chan, can't you just fill in as an engineer?" She turned toward Suzune with her signature pleading eyes. Alas Suzune was a monster who was able to resist her charms (read: Suzune was too used to this).

"Unfortunately I can't say it would be a good idea. I would volunteer to aid in the general creation of the strategies instead."

The Club Management Committee had been tasked with identifying and organising the selections for the various events, including ice pillars break, monolith code, mirage bat, battleboard and cloudball and speedshooting… while the Council was tasked to organise the engineers that were to support the events.

Given the heavy reliance on conventional skills such as quick activation and the extensive activation of magic sequences, all the participants came from the top scorers of each level, with no Course 2 students qualifying, among those who had deigned to try.

"If only ALL the participants could adjust their own CADs," Mayumi shot a pointed look at Mari who had the decency to flush in embarrassment. Regardless, it was pointless to bicker over such points as it was clear that one more engineer was needed.

"Speaking of which, Miyuki, do you adjust your own CAD?" Mari redirected the attention toward the daintily eating Miyuki. Looking up from her bento of rice, grilled Saba and an assortment of vegetables, Miyuki shook her head while she chewed and swallowed, taking care to adhere to proper etiquette.

"I don't, Onii-sama does it for me," She smiled in response before looking for the next piece of fish to attack. Standing suddenly, Mayumi leaned across the table to Miyuki.

"That's it! Don't you think that Tatsuya would make a good addition to the team?" Miyuki smiled and nodded slowly. Tatsuya would definitely make a good addition to the team, but, should he actually give his all and risk drawing additional attention to himself? After her internal debate, she decided that it would be optimal for Tatsuya to aid them (she would like his presence and aid after all).

"President, what's more, Shiba-kun topped the theory examinations again!" Azusa chirped from the opposite side of the table.

"Ara, why am I not surprised? What was the score if I may ask?" Azusa typed on the terminal beside her, and her jaw dropped.

"P-president, it's 100%, and the tutors actually wanted to award him extra credit…" Shocked silence reigned supreme for a moment, well except for Miyuki who smiled internally.

"Let's invite Tatsuya then?"

Murmurs of agreement echoed around the room, as Miyuki was delegated the task of asking her brother to join the team.

VVVVVVV

"Hmm, I'm not exactly sure Miyuki," Tatsuya looked toward her as they walked side by side in the hallway that led to the conference room that hosted the final meeting to announce the participation. Meeting her eye, he knew that they were both concerned about him revealing his identity as Mr Silver from the iconic duo of Taurus Silver (not that anyone knew it was a duo).

"Well, honestly I wouldn't have raised it to you, but Mayumi seemed fairly desperate about the situation, and she asked if you could do so." Miyuki smiled apologetically, aware of the predicament.

He looked at Miyuki who gave him an earnest smile. Sighing, Tatsuya nodded, indicating that he would consider the proposition just as they reached the door of the conference room.

They were 10 minutes early, as was requested by Mayumi. Opening the door, Katsuto, Mayumi, Mari, and Hattori greeted the siblings as Mayumi came over to them.

"Tatsuya, has Miyuki asked you about being an engineer? Would you help us?" Tatsuya paused, and sighed.

"Have there been Year 1s, or Course 2 students inducted into the engineering team before?"

"Unfortunately, no, but it was not for the lack of trying. We did interview Year 1 and Course 2 students for these positions before, but we have not had such a strong case for an inclusion until this year. Most of the previous aspiring candidates had higher than average theory scores for the Year 1 course, and the Course 2 students did not have superior theory scores as well, that is until you."

Tatsuya looked at Miyuki, who smiled and tilted her head.

"If it helps, none of us are opposed to your addition, and it also supports my previous claim of slowly eroding the systematic discrimination within First High." Mayumi added for emphasis.

"I guess it wouldn't hurt to help." he finally announced as he nodded slightly. Smiles of approval could be seen as Mayumi whooped.

Right then, the earlier students began streaming into the room. It was after all just 6 minutes away from the start of the session. Locating seats to the right of the front row, Tatsuya led Miyuki over, their frames followed by a grateful Mayumi's eyes. Internally, Tatsuya sighed.

VVVVVVV

Announcements of the names went on, as Shizuku, Honoka and Miyuki were all named as part of the competitors. Occasionally, Tatsuya felt the pointing and staring from Course 1 students, clearly wondering what this Course 2 student, although prominent, was doing here. Miyuki clenched her fists everytime a snide remark was made, while Tatsuya calmed her by rubbing the back of her fists gently.

"Shiba Tatsuya, Class 1-E" rang out, to the surprise of many members in the room. Standing to acknowledge his selection, he bowed to the audience before he sat down again. Shizuku gave him a small smirk and nodded toward him from the other side of the room, while Honoka beamed, almost signalling a "CONGRATULATIONS!" From her 1000 watt smile.

"Hey, is there a mistake?" A senior raised his voice, as many others echoed the sentiment. Phrases of "Course 2", "Weed", and "Year 1" were thrown around without regard for the fact that large portions of the Student Council, Club Management Committee, and Morals Committee were present.

"All of you listen to the President!" Katsuto's authoritative voice boomed through the room as everyone froze, before seating themselves.

"Arigatou Juumonji-kun. We have collectively decided to appoint Tatsuya-kun to the engineering team." She looked at the leadership team, with even Hattori nodding slowly.

"But President, are you sure he can do it? We trust you and all, but shouldn't we have some form of verification?" A year 2 senior raised his hand to voice his concerns.

She nodded, " I can see why you would be concerned, Shinji-kun, we will be representing First High in a bid to win the competition for an unprecedented 3rd time after all." Murmurs of agreement could be heard from the audience.

"President, how about we request that he adjust a competition-specced CAD for a competitor then?" A voice came from the crowd of students. Mayumi paused in thought, "In that case, Tatsuya-kun, would you do the honour of replicating the settings from my CAD to a competition standard variant?"

Tatsuya sighed as the noise levels from the room reached an all-time high. Who called a Year 1 Junior by their name, and much less, got the opportunity to replicate the personal settings for the President?

"Understood President." "Alright then, we will meet in the First Equipment Adjustment room in 10 minutes."

Standing up, Miyuki and Tatsuya made their way to the room, with Miyuki shooting frosty looks at any student that had dared to discriminate against her brother.

"Wow, Tatsuya, it seems just like old days huh?" Shizuku deadpanned as she joined the Shiba siblings. "I guess trouble seems to follow us." Honoka giggled at his reply.

VVVVV

Although smaller than Tatsuya's personal lab at home, this room would have been considered spacious considering it simply housed a few terminals, chairs, and equipment meant to aid in the measurement of one's Psion count. The sheer number of people surrounding Tatsuya and MIyuki caused this room to feel super cramped.

Ignoring the burning sensation of eyes staring through his being, Tatruya gestured for Mayumi to sit. Exchanging smiles, Mayumi put on the Psion measuring headset while Tatsuya hooked the equipment up to the screen. Looking to her for permission, Mayumi nodded, allowing her Psion count reading to be displayed to all present in the room.

Silence reigned as her measurements were read. After a while, a loud set of gasps came from the watching students. Unexpectedly, Mayumi's Psion count was high, even for members of the 10 Master Clans.

"As expected of you, Mayumi." Tatsuya smiled, as Mayumi threatened to flush in her seat. Then, he plugged in both CADs and began to move his fingers over the keyboard. His eyes transfixed on the digits and alphabets that he began generating.

"Using a keyboard in this day and age?" "How odd, are you sure he knows what he is doing?"

"Kei, what do you think?" Chiyoda Kanon, a senior from the Public Morals committee nudged a black haired boy beside her, who was equally transfixed on the scene. Among the members of the Public Morals Committee, Kanon and Sawaki Midori stood out for their unique outlook. In their initial meeting, Midori had impressed Tatsuya. Instead of immediately dismissing Tatsuya due to his placement as a Course 2 student, Midori withheld his judgement, choosing to judge Tatsuya based on his own personal opinions.

Kanon also took a far more open approach than most other members in the committee. Like Sawaki, she didn't discriminate against him, instead, she was the sole member of the committee that did request for his assistance on occasion (although it was due to his eye for administration and organisation).

"He is going really, really fast. From what I see, I think he should be done anytime now. Its incredible really." "Ehhhh… I see…" Kanon simply stroked her chin, considering her fiance's words.

Abruptly, the sounds of the holographic keyboard stopped as Tatsuya plugged out the CAD. Stretching his hands out, Mayumi reached out, their hands brushing one another. "Thank you, Tatsuya."

Grasping the device, she activated Multi-Scope, and her eyes widened as the crowd waited in anticipation for her verdict. "It somehow feels smoother than my normal device," she said, voice trailing off at the shock she was experiencing. At this, it seemed certain that Tatsuya was going to be the final member of the engineering team.

Protests from the crowd erupted, and both Miyuki and Honoka glared angrily at the crowd while Katsuto and Hattori went about shutting the arguments from the rest of the participants down. The conclusion was that Tatsuya was assigned to a handful of the Rookie females, to the delight of Honoka and Miyuki.

VVVVV

Looking at the girls before him, Tatsuya sighed in exasperation for what Miyuki and Mayumi had gotten him into. Seated in front of him, his 'charges' held a variety of expressions. Miyuki and Honoka looked absolutely delighted to have him. Shizuku held her usual set of more stoic expressions, but you could tell that she was pleased to have him through her slightly brighter eyes. Apart from them, Kazumi whom Tatsuya recognised from the Public Morals committee sat in a seat toward the back of the class, smiling politely while Eimi, a girl of slightly… smaller stature and bright pink hair gave him a suspicious stare, not bothering to hide any animosity.

"Why do we have a guy in charge of us? Its kinda awkward, almost as if we were exposing ourselves to him," Eimi threw out her opinion right from the start, breaking the ice completely. MIyuki frowned, unused to her brother being openly attacked from the get go, while Honoka immediately stood up to defend Tatsuya.

'She actually has got a point, but since I'm here, I'll just do this,' Tatsuya psyched himself up before raising his hand and imitating a sheepish look that he recently learnt from Mikihijo. Gathering the attention of the girls, he began to address them.

"Hello all, I'm Shiba Tatsuya, a fellow first year. Like you, I'm not incredibly familiar with the competition, for obvious reasons.", the room shifted uncomfortably as Tatsuya made fun of his own lack of examinable practical skills. "But nonetheless, I'm here to offer you my utmost support through the preparation phase, and the actual competition." He smiled, offering them a truce.

"Neh, Tatsuya, if I may," Eimi began, "How will you be able to help us through the preparation phase?"

"Well, although my conventional magic skills may not be up to par, I may offer support in other ways, such as CAD adjustments, and helping with devising strategies with you all. After all, it's not always the most skilful or powerful magician that wins battles and competitions, but the most creative and best optimised skills that will aid us." He looked around the room to assess their reactions.

Miyuki, Honoka and Shizuku were obviously in his corner, but the rest were still fairly uncertain, which he accepted as par for the course.

"If you all do not mind, perhaps we can set up a schedule for the next two weeks in preparation for the competition," Operating the interactive board in the classroom, Tatsuya moved through the system with practiced ease, setting up a programme for his 'charges'. Although he might not have been particularly interested in taking part in the event, he wasn't the type to give a half-assed effort (although he wasn't completely sure he was about to give his absolute best and ruin his cover).

VVVVVVV

Tatsuya sat in his laboratory in the basement. Leaning back, he frowned at the large series of monitor(s). Lines of codes stood, staring at him as if challenging the famous Mr Silver. Finally, something seemed to click and Tatsuya went back to typing furiously on the keyboard.

Peeping into the room, Miyuki watched Tatsuya as he attacked the long lines of codes furiously. Sweeping her gaze along the built in terminal, she spotted a CAD on the table, cluing her in on the type of magic that Tatsuya was working on. Smiling to herself, she turned away, intending to walk away, when a loud "Boo!" came from behind her.

Shrieking, Miyuki fell to the floor. Honami collapsed on the floor and began to laugh a loud hearty laugh. Wiping tears from her eyes, she gazed at the pouting Miyuki, who was torn between being embarrassed, and being amused at the situation.

"Again? I thought Miyuki would certainly not be caught off-guard this time." Tatsuya's head popped out from the door of the lab. Covering her face in embarrassment, she accused Tatsuya, "You mean you knew all along? While you were working?"

"Mmmm, I must admit I was not fully aware of the details, as I was so close to completing the experiment. On that note, would my dearest Miyuki and Honami be willing to try it out for me?"

Both immediately agreed.

VVVVVV

Having changed into suitable active wear, both Honami and Miyuki were sitting on movable chairs while Tatsuya was downloading and preparing the software for two fairly simple CADs. This wasn't the first time that they had been testers for Mr Silver's experiments, after all, both of them were involved in the initial tests for the Loop Casting technology.

Leaning over Tatsuya's shoulder, Honami glanced at the lines of code that Tatsuya was verifying, and copying. "Ah, I see I see." Nodding to herself, she smiled, sneaking a look at Miyuki, who returned her cheeky smile by tilting her head to one side.

Having been raised as a Butler as part of the original Sakurai series, Honami had been trained to read, and tune CADs both for herself and her designated master, a duty that she had done flawlessly for Miya Yotsuba during her lifetime. However, due to Tatsuya's prodigious talent in the field, Tatsuya had seen replaced Honami as the CAD maintenance specialist at home, tuning even Honami's own CAD. Thus it was unsurprising that Honami was able to read, and decipher what Tatsuya was about to let them 'sample'. Behind them, Miyuki pouted, feeling left out.

"Ooh, there's even some safety mechanisms! Talk about a safety net." Honami nodded approvingly while Tatsuya chuckled in acknowledgement.

"I wouldn't want anyone to get hurt, much less the two most important people in my life even though this is still only a beta test, I'd make it as safe as possible." Tatsuya smiled while Miyuki blushed and Honami smiled as her eyes teared just a bit.

Although it had been 3 and a half years from the death of Miya, Honami sometimes still felt emotional at the bond and pseudo family status that they shared. Being raised as a soldier, protector, and being drilled on the importance of protecting one's primary still remained etched in her soul as it was her primary purpose. She still wanted to protect the both of them, but so much of this ingrained sense of duty that had motivated her had changed into the love that she felt for them that now motivated her actions. But this was a story for another time.

The typing stopped, and Tatsuya handed each of them a CAD with a single button. "This should be safe, but if there were to be any issues, there should be safety mechanisms built in."

Nodding, Miyuki eagerly pressed the button and waited. Feeling the Psions being channeled through her body, she suddenly felt as if something had profoundly changed. She felt lighter, so light that she was almost… she was flying?! "Ahhhh?!" She inadvertently let out a happy sigh as she continued to float about, moving slowly from right to left, front to back, upward and downward like a baby leprechaun learning to fly.

She spotted Honami who had also just begun her adventure into flying magic. Honami was smiling at her antics. "See, wasn't the surprise worth it?" She quipped as she gracefully floated toward Miyuki, reaching for her hands. They then began to explore the heights of the high ceilinged basement lab, thankful for the height of the room. Below them, Tatsuya simply smiled as his 'mother' and sister enjoyed their time.

Soon after, they landed and at the behest of Tatsuya, answered a few questions to determine the suitability of the software for the masses. Just as they had finished Tatsuya's "questionnaire" of sorts, Honami leaned forward in her chair and clasped her hands together signalling the entrance into her "curious" mode.

"So, I heard from Miyuki that both of you are participating in the 9 Schools Competition? In that case, would you be able to show me your outfits! Miyuki has an outfit for Mirage Bat as well as Ice Pillars break right?" She looked at Miyuki, whose eyes glistened at the ability to model for both Honami and her brother.

"And even Tatsuya, you have a special uniform for the engineering team right?" Tatsuya nodded and stood up, already ready to fetch his attire knowing that he would not get out of this easily.

VVVVVVV

Reconvening a few moments later in the same lab, Miyuki emerged in a form fitting costume that was light pink. Its sleeves were short, reading up to only the top half of her upper arms. They were designed in a manner that made them puff and flare, showcasing her femininity. The design included a turtleneck collar, with the front portion up to her chest being coloured a dark purple, contrasting with the light pink. A skirt flared out, reaching to around her knees, and this was completed with her Mirage Bat and white stockings that reached all the way up her thighs.

Walking in shyly, she looked around at the other two occupants who had already arrived. Tatsuya and Honami were conversing casually, each with a cup of tea in their hands, a third cup sitting on the desk. Stopping their conversation, their eyes were drawn toward Miyuki who blushed at the attention. Tatsuya examined her with an approving gaze, his pride evident in his eyes while Honami squealed and rushed toward Miyuki, enveloping her in a hug.

"You look so pretty, Miyuki! Can I take a photo of you?" Honami rubbed her cheeks against Miyuki's as Miyuki tried to resist Honami, flustered. "Honami, maybe it's time to let go? We can take a photo later," Tatsuya came to Miyuki's rescue, prying the enthusiastic Honami from his sister.

Pouting, Miyuki looked expectantly at Tatsuya, who smiled and patted her head. "You look great Miyuki, it definitely suits you well, but beyond the looks, I know you will do great." Miyuki blushed and gave him a bright smile.

"Onii-sama looks great too! Especially since this uniform actually has a crest!." Tatsuya glanced down at his outfit and moved about in it a little. "I think the best thing about it is that it's functional." Snorting and rolling their eyes, Honami and Miyuki sighed. Tatsuya was… undeniably practical.

"Enough of that, let's commemorate your participation in the 9 Schools Competition with a photograph!"

Whipping out her mobile terminal, Tatsuya wrapped his arms around Miyuki, who smiled at the contact. Raising her Bat, Miyuki smiled and looked at Tatsuya, who did likewise. A flash indicated that the photograph had been taken.

"Honami, it's time you join us as well, let's take a family photo." Miyuki waved Honami over, who nodded. Tatsuya then went over and adjusted the terminal and set a timer for the photograph. Rushing over after the timer was activated, the camera flashed, commemorating their first 9 Schools Competition as a family.

VVVVVVV

Stepping into the house, the blinds automatically drew open, letting the sunlight into the living room. Placing their bags in their designated areas, Tatsuya Miyuki and Honami began bustling.

It had been a busy week. Amidst the preparation for the 9 Schools Competition, Tatsuya and Mikihiko had also discovered that Mizuki had the ability to visibly identify spirits. Additionally, there had been a call by the JSDF to warn the household about the possible intervention of No Head Dragon, a criminal organisation, in the 9 Schools Competition.

They had just returned from running errands at FLT and the 101st Battalion. Tatsuya headed down to the basement to adjust the code of his flying magic activation sequence, while Miyuki and Honami headed to the kitchen to prepare for dinner. Today's test had revealed that although the sequence itself and the safety protocols in place were sufficient to prevent accidents, the programme was not nearly as efficient as Tatsuya would have wanted.

Although Honami and Miyuki had absolutely no problem maintaining an hour of flight as per the previous test, normal magicians with more ordinary amounts of Psions could barely last 20 minutes, hence Tatsuya needed to optimise the code, while Ushiyama, Mr Taurus, needed to optimise the hardware required to ensure the increased efficiency of the CAD Itself.

Just as he was about to finish, he received a notification from his mobile terminal. Frowning, he rushed upstairs to the living room and drew the blinds. Miyuki and Honami were already in front of the large screen that displayed an incoming video call from "Yotsuba Maya".

Glancing at one another quickly, they answered the call. Miyuki stood in the centre, flanked by both Tatsuya and Honami, as the graceful beauty of their aunt showed itself across the 70 inch screen. They all bowed. "Oba-ue, good evening."

"Good evening Miyuki, Tatsuya, and Honami, I trust you are well?" "Yes Oba-ue, we are well." A simple response echoed through the room, as they waited in suspense for their aunt to get to the crux of the conversation. As the head of the most feared and secretive of the 10 Master Clans, their aunt rarely ever called, and even more rarely called to exchange simple pleasantries.

"Miyuki, I hear you have been selected to represent First High in the 9 Schools Competition, Tatsuya too, as an engineer. Congratulations to you two." She smiled congenially, disguising her intentions.

"Yes Oba-ue, thank you. We are glad to have been given this opportunity." Miyuki and Tatsuya bowed as Miyuki answered on their behalf. It was clear that Miyuki was the main subject in the conversation.

"I wish you all the best, and I look forward to the strong showing." Her eyes flashed as her smile curled up to far it almost seemed… feral.

"We will do our best." Miyuki replied amiably.

"Then, I wish you all a good night, and I look forward to hearing the news." The call ended as abruptly as it started.

Looking at one another, they knew the message. Their aunt wanted them to produce a strong showing worthy of the Yotsuba name. Tatsuya's brows furrowed in thought, but soon decided that it was pointless in trying to beat his aunt at her scheming, at this moment at least.

VVVVVVV

The scorching sun shone down on the bus and the threevans that were parked in the parking lot of First High. Miyuki sat in a black pseudo leather seat in her school uniform, her slender legs crossed daintily as the sun shone into the bus through the window. Her fingers tapped on her thighs while beside her, Honoka and Shizuku conversed across the aisle. She frowned just slightly as she watched the familiar figure of her brother stand outside, awaiting the two missing leaders who also happened to be members of the 10 Master Clans.

Sensing her gaze upon him, Tatsuya turned his head away from the terminal he was holding, and gave her a small smile. Returning the smile, Miyuki turned toward the cool interior of the bus, savouring the reprieve it gave them from the absolutely torturous summer weather.

'Onii-sama is really too nice, volunteering to take the attendance. He is outside in the sun but we are all here in the comfort of the bus, not caring about them at all!' She glanced around the bus in annoyance. Well, almost all didn't care, Shizuku and Honoka obviously did, but they soon came to a similar conclusion that Miyuki had - that it would be impossible to convince Tatsuya to do his duty, hence they just continued their conversation to pass the time.

'But still, they are really quite late!' Miyuki checked her conventional wrist watch. It was a silver watch with a dark emerald face, complete with luminescent hands. As it was a gift from Tatsuya for her birthday 2 years ago, this was one of the only accessories she was almost never seen without. It had been about an hour after the time they were scheduled to meet.

Just then, a black sedan pulled up, and the large imposing frame of Katsuto Juumonji appeared. How the man managed to fit in such an ordinary vehicle, Miyuki would also like to have known. Tatsuya had a brief conversation with Juumonji-senpai before he came onboard.

VVVVVVV

"Saegusa should be coming along soon." "Alright then, thank you Senpai." Tatsuya nodded toward Katsuto as he boarded the bus.

After another half an hour, another vehicle pulled up. Out stepped the final member of their entourage from the silver sedan with tinted windows. A summer straw hat adorned her head as her silky black hair fluttered in the breeze. She squinted from the change in lighting, brushing her hair from her eyes, before she headed toward Tatsuya.

Saying she was beautiful was an understatement. Clad in a simple white summer dress, the clothes clung to her frame in the right place. White flats adorned her feet instead of her usual black platforms, making her height, or lack thereof even more evident than usual. Pausing right in front of Tatsuya, he unconsciously swallowed, "Good afternoon Mayumi, I assume this was business related to the 10 Master Clans?"

She frowned, "That's the first thing you say?" She dramatically leaned forward, just inches from Tatsuya, who desperately controlled the blood rushing to his face. "You look great, Mayumi, it really suits you." Tatsuya offered to the unhappy lady.

"Mou, I wish you would be more honest, and offer a proper reaction," She pouted as she sighed.

"Well then, you are truly beautiful and elegant today Mayumi, but I'm sure we must get going soon." He turned away from her, embarrassed at his own words, only to miss the blush that adorned Mayumi's face.

"Th-thank you, Tatsuya," she ground out barely audibly, "Anyway yes it was a meeting for the participants from the 10 Master Clans, about exerting dominance and all that." She quickly changed the topic, waving her right arm to indicate that this was the typical behaviour of the 10 Master Clans. Tatsuya's eyes widened just slightly as he came to a realization. "Anyway, thank you for helping with the attendance Tatsuya!" With that, she bounded up the bus, seemingly satisfied.

Stroking his chin thoughtfully, he looked toward Miyuki, who was staring at him with narrowed eyes. Offering an apologetic smile, he walked back to the van that he was to ride in, alongside the equipment.

'So that's what Oba-ue is going for then…' Trying to upset the balance desired by the 10 Master Clans would be something definitely doable for them, but how did it link to the larger picture? Shaking his head, he decided that it might be a tad tough to read her mind, instead deciding to focus on escaping the hot and humid environment.

VVVVVVVV

"Ah, I guess we are leaving soon?" A warm voice reached his ears the moment he opened the door of the van. "Hai, Isori Senpai, we are leaving." Waving his hand, he replied "Let's not have any of that formal greetings between us. Could I call you Tatsuya like your friends? Feel free to call me Kei! We are gonna be working closely together after all!" Returning the smile, Tatsuya nodded, before settling into a comfortable spot.

Setting his elemental vision to approximately 60%, he began to keep an eye on the bus throughout the journey.

VVVVVVVV

Conversation flowed freely between Kei and Tatsuya, sparked by Kei's interest in Tatsuya's ability to type and adjust CADs manually through codes. It turned out that Kei was the 2nd highest scorer for magic theory in the 2nd Year class of students, barely losing out to Azusa. Tatsuya noted that his depth of knowledge ran far deeper than high school level, as they discussed the details of the Three Great Puzzles of Weight Systemic Magic.

After 2 and a half hours, Kei called their conversation quits, and decided to recuperate for the rest of the ride. Tatsuya scanned the bus again. Mayumi seemed to be fast asleep, leaning comfortably against Suzune, who seemed to be hard at work on the terminal. Smiling, he hoped that Mayumi would get a good amount of rest as this period would undoubtedly be tough on her, as First High's leader. Miyuki was in conversation with Honoka and Shizuku. Once again, he was glad that they had made good friends in Middle School that drew Miyuki out from her shell. Without them, Miyuki might have felt it tougher to interact with students of their age, as the majority of the Yotsuba's events did require the potential heirs to interact more frequently with those of higher stature or age.

Right about then, Tatsuya's senses tingled. Whipping his head to face the opposing lane on the highway, he quickly reached out with his elemental sight. His eyes widened as he felt magic activating, puncturing the front tyre of the car travelling at 200 kilometers an hour, way over the speed limit. The vehicle began to spin and tumble almost uncontrollably as a magical fire started from within the car.

VVVVVVV

Adrenaline pumped through Miyuki's veins as screams could be heard from several of her Year 1 batchmates. Right then, two magic sequences launched themselves toward the spinning car, cancelling each other out. Miyuki's eyes widened as she tried to keep calm. At this rate, the car would impact the bus, likely causing serious damage. Her eyes whipped to the van travelling beside the bus, mentally beseeching her brother for help.

All of a sudden, the mass of Psions dissipated out of nowhere. Muttering a thanks under her breath, she shouted to the bus that she was about to help extinguish the fire before quickly activating her magic. At this point, she knew that it was probably up to Katsuto to stop the car. Right then, a sturdy-looking green barrier erected itself in front of the car, stopping it dead in its tracks as the car crumpled into itself like a tin can.

At this point, the bus had basically come to a stop. Heaving a sigh of relief, Miyuki slowly sat down in her seat gently, the usual placid smile back on her face, wondering what they would have done without her Onii-sama. However, upon seeing Tatsuya at the scene, she decided it would be best to pick his brains.

"Onii-sama!" Miyuki alighted from the bus and walked toward her brother, who was observing the wreckage and capturing the scene with a special camera. "Are? Tatsuya, Miyuki. How are things?" Another familiar voice came from the bus. Mayumi hopped off the bus, landing on the ground lightly. This time, she did not have her hat and was shielding her eyes with her hands.

Tatsuya nodded toward her, "Mayumi, Miyuki." The girls joined Tatsuya as they inspected the wreckage. The bonnet of the car had been completely wrecked, with the front of the car almost completely crumpling up within itself as if there wasn't even an engine at the front. Blood stained the windscreen and reddish liquid trickled slowly from the now upside down vehicle.

Despite the gore of the situation, both ladies seemed perfectly at ease, but serious as they walked around the wreckage while other vehicles whizzed past, courtesy of Isori-senpai's help.

Mayumi frowned at the scene. It did not feel… right. Given that all vehicles were equipped with advanced technology and many layers of accident prevention protocols, accidents almost never happened. This feeling gnawed at her insides. Furthermore, it was even rarer that vehicles on opposite lanes head on - there were tall barriers that were placed at the side of these highways to prevent this exact scenario. It would have to have been some 'miracle' accident for this to have happened in the exact way it did.

She looked at the Shiba siblings who seemed to be communicating non verbally. 'Just like in middle school,' Mayumi thought. She cleared her throat as if to say, ' what do you think?' "It seems as if we have an incident. It certainly seems premeditated." He pointed toward the driver's seat and at the tyres and referred the camera to them for their viewing. Mayumi peered into the small screen attached to the camera.

Using the special lens in the camera, they were able to track the use of magic sequences that still lingered after their use. Based on the markings, magic had been applied to the front tyre, and the rear of the car.

"Ohhh! I see. It indeed seems so." Mayumi's voice gradually lowered in pitch as she realised the significance of the finding. "But Onii-sama, who could have cast these…? Don't tell me you think that it is a suicide attack?" Mayumi's face paled.

Tatsuya shrugged, "Well, it would mean there wasn't going to be anyone to interrogate, so that would be an effective solution to plugging any leaks." He stated in a matter of fact matter, which Mayumi made a face at.

Right then, a police officer arrived on scene, requesting for the footage on Tatsuya's camera. Frowning at the unlikely coincidence, Tatsuya reluctantly handed over the footage. Despite his suspicions, they did not have any ground to stand on hence were unable to avoid this outcome.

VVVVVVVV

"Maaariii! Are you done? We need to get changed and go soon!" "Yes yes, I'm about done, give me a moment." Mayumi sighed as she sat down in front of the dresser in their hotel room shaking her head. Despite rooming with Mari for three years at this point, Mayumi was still frustrated at Mari's tendency to rush her preparation despite having loads of time to clean up beforehand.

Deciding that it was pointless to think about it, Mayumi began humming softly as she applied her makeup. On went the foundation and blusher first before she opened her pouch full of lipsticks. Pausing for a moment, she settled on a dark wine red lipstick for a slightly more mature look. Inadvertently, she wondered if Tatsuya would like the shade. Shaking her head, she dispersed those thoughts as she blushed. Continuing her ritual, her mind continued to drift, settling on the incident that literally threatened to derail First High.

Running through the sequence of events, she realised that something failed to add up - after the jumble of sequences launched by Kanon and Honoka, all of a sudden, the whole mass of unintelligible sequences suddenly just disappeared. 'All these on top of the potential suicide attack?' Furrowing her brow, she narrowed down the list of possibilities. 'Could it be…?' Mayumi could only think of a handful of possibilities, each more unlikely than the next. The most likely reason was that someone had cast gram demolition.

She began to mentally list the names of the students. Ruling out all the 2nd and 3rd year students as she was familiar with their abilities, it only really left the freshmen. But amongst them the only possibility was…

"Mayumi?" "Ahhh!" Mayumi jumped in her seat, causing her right hand to jerk.

"MARI!" Mayumi turned and angrily bellowed at a Mari that was currently only wrapped in a towel, having just emerged from the bath.

At this, Mari began to laugh uncontrollably, "Mayumi, your face!". Mayumi growled and looked in the mirror only to find that there was a large stroke right above her right eye, courtesy of her eyebrow pencil.

"Mari I'm going to kill you!" Mayumi roared as she quickly began to undo the damage, the still laughing Mari rolling on her bed.

This time, they might both be late.

VVVVVVV

The moment the door opened, Mari and Mayumi half walked and half ran toward the waiting group of First High students. They were currently outside the primary entrance to the Grand Ballroom. The delegation had already fragmented into several social groups while waiting for the arrival of their President.

Groups had formed roughly along the lines of gender and year of study. The seniors were all gathered in a single group, with Katsuto and Mari as well. The Juniors seemed to be chatting amiably as well, while interestingly, the Freshmen were split into 2 groups - one consisting of the male students and another with the female students… and Tatsuya. Miyuki seemed to be examining his borrowed coat, excitedly expressing her happiness at the embroidered flower on his chest, as he smiled dotingly.

Catching a glimpse of this, Mayumi's heart tightened just a fraction before she forced herself to let it slide. "Everyone, listen up." Katsuto's voice cut through the air authoritatively, loud enough to grab the attention of the group without disrupting the rest of the high school students who were not clad in turquoise and white.

"Mmhmm, hello everyone! Its about time for us to enter the Pre-event ceremony. Today, the official goal is for us to interact with other high school students, so do keep that in mind. We also expect an address from Elder Kudou." At this, murmurs of approval began to echo through the Freshmen. Having been here before, the Juniors and Seniors simply smiled in anticipation.

"Otherwise, do help yourself to the food and drinks." Mayumi clapped her hands together and smiled, thereafter beginning to usher them into the hall with the aid of Mari and Katsuto.

VVVVVVV

Although owned by the military, no expense was spared in the overall design of the hotel. Tatsuya stood at the side of the Grand Ballroom, close to the window, with a glass of sparkling juice in his hand. It certainly was impressive. With ceilings reaching approximately 10 metres, the ballroom seemed to stretch out for hundreds of metres. Several small chandeliers coated in gold hung from the ceiling, with a large central chandelier consisting of several thousand crystals being the centre of attraction, radiating warm light as it stood on display. SIlver curtains framed the 5 metre Victorian windows that lined the side of the ballroom he stood nearest to. The large expansive space suited Tatsuya in these sorts of social events as he could easily fade into the background, content to watch Miyuki as she socialised. Although he was trained to behave like a gentleman, Tatsuya certainly did not like these sorts of events.

Each school was allocated 6 large tables to accommodate all the participants and non competing staff. Students generally clumped together with their own schoolmates, enjoying the buffet. However, there were certainly some pleasantries to be exchanged as evidenced by the First High's Triumvirate of Mayumi, Katsuto and Mari, as well as Suzune Azusa and Miyuki going around to meet the other student leaders from the other schools. Miyuki cast an apologetic smile to Tatsuya as she went off to meet the student leaders of Third High, aware of his discomfort in these sorts of social situations.

"Omatase!" A bright familiar voice could be heard from his left before a red haired young lady wearing a Victorian maid's outfit emerged within his field of vision. "Would you like a refill of your drink Sir?" Erika smiled cheekily as Tatsuya nodded, exchanging his empty glass for another without missing a beat.

"I see, this is what you meant by you would be here on semi-official business. So, where are the rest?" Tatsuya scanned the crowd for any of their other friends, Leo, Mizuki and Mikihiko.

Erika sniggered, "Tatsuya, how could you expect a clumsy fellow like Leo to be waiting tables and cleaning up? He'll probably end up having to work here for a month to clear up his debt." She dismissively waved away his suggestion, "He is doing manual labour in the back while Mizuki is assisting in washing the dishes. Miki is here though," She began looking, tiptoeing to no avail. After all, Tatsuya couldn't see him either.

"Onii-sama, Erika." The calm voice of Miyuki wafted over from their right. Miyuki had been able to find an opportunity to sneak off. Seeing her brother and a friend, she decided to come over to say hi. "Ara, Miyuki! I see you seem to be getting a lot of attention from the boys mmhmm?" Erika leaned forward while expertly balancing her tray, wiggling her eyebrows.

"Nothing of that sort," Miyuki waved away Erika's suggestions while Tatsuy casually scanned the room, realising that she had indeed captured the attention of a large portion of the male population. However, he was not in the least bit worried. Miyuki could handle herself, and if there was a need, she would certainly be in contact.

"How about yourself Erika, you do look charming as well," Miyuki threw the hot potato back into the arms of Erika who again, waved it away. "Hmm, I'm just wondering what Leo would think if he saw you in that outfit," he looked her over once more for added effect.

"Why do you all keep lumping me in together with him!" She blushed and began looking around the room. "Hey, Miyuki, you haven't met Miki right? Lemme go get him!" quickly adopting evasive maneuvers, she walked back into the crowd. "Ahh, there she goes." Tatsuya commented as she disappeared into the throng of students.

"Onii-sama, you should join our schoolmates," Miyuki pouted slightly as she looked toward him, subtly chiding him for his loner-like behaviour.

Sighing he nodded, "In a while, I'll join them. Seems like the Mayumi is looking for you, perhaps its a good time to go?" Pouting, Miyuki reluctantly allowed Tatsuya to escape given that she actually had duties to attend to.

At this point, Erika returned with Mikihiko, only for Miyuki to begin socialising with Second High's student leaders, prompting their quick dispersal given the lack of motive to hang out with Tatsuya.

Tatsuya was beginning to wonder what kind of god he pissed off today, to have been "blessed" with so many conversations as he saw Masaki Ichijou, heir to the Ichijou Clan from the 10 Master Clans approaching him.

"There are just those types who draw attention to themselves unknowingly huh?" Masaki had taken up a position to the left of Tatsuya, trying to break the ice as his eyes followed Miyuki. Tatsuya gently nodded, deciding that it was best to play a game of diplomacy with First High's largest rival, as well as one of magic society's future big movers.

"You seem to attract a fair amount of attention as well, given the stares from a significant portion of the female population." Tatsuya gently swirled his drink as if it were a glass of wine. Masaki chuckled, seemingly genuinely amused.

"Honestly, it's not as if I particularly enjoy the attention." He admitted to Tatsuya, who raised his eyebrows just a tad, surprised by the candidness of Masaki, implying that it could well be the possibility that he had joined Tatsuya to escape from the limelight. "Well, I assume it comes with the territory of being from one of the 10 Master Clans." Tatsuya helped.

"Well, honestly, I was wondering about Shiba-san." Masaki got to the meat of the conversation, Tatsuya's expression still holding its gentle smile from before. "Shiba? She is indeed quite powerful, as I'm sure your intelligence will tell you. There's no mistake there." Tatsuya supplied fairly unhelpfully. Masaki smiled, although Tatsuya could sense that that wasn't what he was getting at. Sensing that he wasn't about to get any further information, he decided to end the conversation.

"Well then, I guess I should get back to my school." Masaki held out his hand and flashed Tatsuya a smile. "Nice meeting you, and I wish you the best in the events that you are competing in, could I have your name?" Tatsuya took the hand and they exchanged a firm handshake. "Unfortunately, I'll not be participating in any events. I'm an engineer, but my sister will be representing the family. I'm Shiba Tatsuya." Masaki's eyes widened a tad but recovered almost instantaneously.

"Well then Shiba-san, I wish you all the best, and to your sister as well." Masaki turned around and headed back to the Third High tables.

"Tsk tsk tsk, Tatsuya, you seem to be very popular tonight even though you've been hiding in a corner." Mayumi approached him directly, a signature mischievous smile plastered on her face. "Mayumi, you look beautiful today. Done with the pleasantries?" Tatsuya offered his hand to her.

She blushed and gently smacked him. "Yes we are, I'm so tired." she dramatically exclaimed loudly enough that only he could hear her. "Well, I think we should be done fairly soon." he comforted her.

"Anyway, don't be anti-social, come over and get to know the rest of them!" Mayumi reached out and grabbed his hand. Her soft, small slender fingers coiled around his calloused digits, warming them from exposure to the cold ballroom. Even with her blusher, her cheeks appeared slightly redder than usual.

Tatsuya's own heart began beating a bit harder as he stood stock still, until Mayumi pulled at his arm. She looked back at him, her crimson eyes held a certain softness, while her face was adorned with a faux annoyed pout. His lips curled upward just a fraction as he relented, closing his own fingers around hers in a firm but gentle hold as he let her lead him back to the pack where Miyuki flashed him an annoyed look, irritated that Mayumi had succeeded in doing what she did not manage to.

Tatsuya stood beside Mayumi as he joined herself and Miyuki with the Freshmen. Tatsuya noted the level of rapport that Mayumi had with the Freshmen despite the short length of time that they had been in the school, marvelling at how they all treated her as a respectable elder sister.

15 mins later, the lights suddenly turned off. Tatsuya quickly reached out with his elemental sight to ascertain if there was a threat, but the electricity seemed to be working fine. Just then, a voice boomed through the speakers.

"Ladies and gentlemen, let us welcome the Elder of the 10 Master Clans, Kudou Retsu for his opening address for the 2095 9 Schools Competition," Loud applause rang out through the room before what seemed like a beautiful blond-haired young woman stepped out on stage.

Sensing that something was not as it seemed, Tatsuya focused his senses, before he finally saw the Elder hidden behind the lady. The elder's eyes' flitted across the room, each landing on a few targets and smiling to them, himself included. He whispered something to the lady who simply stepped aside before the lights turned on.

"Good Evening my young scholars of magic. Pardon my little prank on you. It was just a little sideshow, a bit of a conjuring trick rather than magic." At this, the majority of the student population began to look at one another, trying to decipher the trick.

"However, only 5 students among you saw the trick," he paused as the tension in the room grew, "which means that if I were to be ill-intentioned, there would have been quite a disaster."

"I played this prank on you to impress on you that magic is just the means, not the end. After all, according to the majority of global magic standards, this was just a low powered spell. Polishing your magic skill is important, but it is equally or if not more important to know how to use these magics effectively. When the 9 Schools Competition begins, this will test not just your magic, but the ways in which you use these magics."

His eyes then flashed across the room, stopping 5 times in particular, before concluding his speech to the applause of the audience.

VVVVVVVV

Tatsuya finally headed to his room. Mikihiko had just finished dealing with intruders that had been attempting to sneak into the competition venue. Since he wasn't supporting any competitors until the 4th day of the competition, Isori had gently urged him to return to his room to get some rest.

Reaching his room, he flashed the keycard at the reader, at which the door popped open. Opening the door, he noticed that one of the shoes that he placed near the door had been slightly disturbed. Alarm bells began ringing in his head, as he casually closed the door and flicked the lights on, so as to not invite undue attention from his neighbours.

Immediately, a fist came flying toward him. Reacting, he parried the fist that was charged with acceleration type magic, destroying the magic sequence and pushing the fist aside. The physical battle continued for about another two minutes before Tatsuya had pinned the attacker on the floor.

Having done so, they both began to laugh as Tatsuya released her. Wearing a set of black pant suits, her purple hair cut in a bob bounced as she got off the floor, hugging Tatsuya who slowly returned the hug.

"Honami, I assume you were placed as some form of event security?" Tatsuya asked as he pulled out a chair for her. He walked toward the hot water flask, and grabbed some tea from his personal container, to which Honami rose, presumably to insist on making the beverage. Tatsuya raised his palm and smiled at her, asking her to take a seat, to which she did.

"Yes, it wasn't made known but I suppose it was somewhat telegraphed. I am with the 101st for this period as one of their security advisors." Tatsuya nodded as he transported two cups of tea to the desk, handing one to Honami before taking a seat on another chair.

"So, have you informed Miyuki yet?" "Yes, actually she was the one who informed me that you might be late to your room," Tatsuya sighed and shook his head. "You two conspiring against me, I see." He chuckled before sipping his preferred blend of sencha.

"Anyway, I think you might be interested to know that Yoshida Mikihiko and I stopped several saboteurs from entering the compound today, Major Kazama was on site so I expect this won't be news to you very soon." Honami nodded thoughtfully as she sipped her tea.

"Given that First High was targeted once, I do not see a reason why this won't continue to happen." Honami opined. Tatsuya nodded, urging her to continue as he sensed that that wasn't the end of her series of thoughts.

"Given that the first attack was fairly indiscriminate, I would wager a bet that No Head Dragon is planning on sabotaging the chance for First High's victory. If I were them, I wouldn't target single participant events, but rather, events with multiple competitors as there would be a higher variance in terms of expected outcomes."

"I see, targeting single competitor competitions would invite suspicion wouldn't it? Extending this logic, targeting the 10 Master Clans would not be ideal as it would trigger the ire of the most powerful magicians in the country." Tatsuya continued. Honami nodded.

If they were correct, there were only a few targets left. Factoring in the fact that rookie events were worth half the points, it was most likely that the open events would be the most obvious targets. Now the remaining question was - how would they go about sabotaging the event?
