AN: Hi there, my other story Fly with me is not finished yet. Though I felt like trying something new. So, here we go. This might only turn out to be a short story with about 10 chapters. At least that's the plan for now lol. Its GP!N. but of course Rizzles. I hope you enjoy this little story like I enjoyed writing it.
Part1
Jane Rizzoli had a secret and she thought about it as she sat on the chair, glancing around the room. Several people were scattered in the waiting area around her, and she tried to ignore them. The nervousness was palpable though and she hated it.
She hated doctors in general. But it was her choice to be here she reminded herself as she nibbled on her thumb. She wanted to get a consult on something that had been bothering her for all her teenage years. She was only 20 now but had a long story to tell which would make some people cry.
"Mrs. Rizzoli." A friendly voice called her, and she glanced up at the woman behind the counter. "The doctor is ready to see you." She nodded friendly and Jane got off her chair to walk to the exam room.
An old man with thick glasses was emerged in some files but put them away as she nervously settled into one of the guest chairs. He gave her a nonjudgmental smile and shuffled through the pile of paper on his desk to find her file.
She shouldn't be nervous she thought. I'm twenty years old for heaven's sake. None of this is my fault! Yet it felt like everything was her fault. Like her parents' divorce because her father couldn't live with the fact that she was intersex. Her mother's constant need to protect and shield her from him and others who threatened to make her unhappy made life of her mother seem to be so unfair to Jane. She silently huffed and caught a curious glance from the doc who folded his hands together on the desk.
"Mrs. Rizzoli." He addressed her with a calm voice. "Are you okay?" Jane nodded although everything inside of her screamed NOOO, I'm not okay. "Yes." She said and caught a wry smile. If everything was okay, she wouldn't be sitting in his office and they both knew it.
He nodded and then he told her that the results showed that she was good for becoming either a female or a male. "You're choice." He said as if it was a good thing when Jane had hoped for him to take the decision of her.
She scratched her chin, noticing that it was time for another shave. Who was she? She wondered and tried to picture herself as a woman and then as a man. Who did she want to be? Jay or Jane? It was a difficult question. She was Jay when she played with the team on weekends and Jane for almost the rest of the time. "You have time to take a decision. You can always come to me if you have questions." He friendly offered and Jane nodded again.
"You'll have to see the therapist first anyways." He stated and she cringed. Oh, how she hated that part of the story. "How much will it cost?" she asked, knowing that money was her biggest problem. If her parents had had the money when she was a kid, they would have made her a girl. When it came to them, they had always seen her as a girl, that's why they had called her Jane. It was only during college that Jane had come up with Jay, because the boys had refused to let her play baseball with them because she was a girl.
She watched in silence how he scribbled a number on a paper and shoved it towards her. "But there are funds you know. You don't have to stem it by yourself. The Isles foundation is very generous in this department." He said when her eyes widened. Never in a lifetime would she be able to pay for this and she was far too proud to accept money from someone else.
Of course, she knew all about the Isles family, which was the most famous and richest family here in Boston. She had no idea though that they were funding gender related operations. She thanked the doc as she stood and left the room.
Never in a lifetime was she going to be able to afford this she thought as she walked into the small coffeeshop down the road. Her mind focused on her problems, she bumped into another person and glanced up when hearing a small scream.
"Shit! I'm sorry!" she said as she watched the coffee dripping from the blondes hand. No damage to the clothing though she thought thankfully as she let her eyes glide over the petites body. She estimated that the girl was of her age. She had nice breasts and a very nice body Jane thought and rolled her eyes at her antics. She could be such a guy sometimes really.
"It's okay. Really." The girl said with a smile and pulled a tissue out of her huge bag. Jane helped her and took the dripping cup out of the petites hand while she cleaned herself. "Can I buy you a new one?" Jane asked and the girl hesitated. "Okay. Soy latte without sugar." The blonde said and walked off to the toilets to wash her hands.
Jane watched her leave and shook her head before stepping up to the counter to order a cappuccino for herself and a soy latte for the blonde. She waited patiently for the petite to return and then handed her the fresh cup.
"Hope you're not hurt." She said and the girl's ponytail wiggled as she shook her head. "Would you like to sit down?" the blonde asked to her surprise and she was even more surprised when she heard herself say "Yes."
Jane knew that she didn't stand a chance for anything. She had tried dating and as soon as the girls found out that she was intersex, they usually ran. Jane was used to being called all sorts of names and had decided not to expose herself to any of that anymore and live a solitary live. So why the hell was she doing this? She wondered as she followed the girl to a table on the terrace.
The weather was nice enough and she glanced at the blonde. She looked just like Jane's type. But maybe she wouldn't be interested anyways. "I'm sorry." Jane apologized again and the girl laughed softly.
"It's okay. No damage done. I'm Maura by the way."
Jane smiled and offered "Jay." The name had slipped over her lips before she could stop it. Maura smiled. "Nice to meet you." She said and Jane thought that despite appearing to be brimming with self-esteem there was a small layer of shyness to her.
"Nice to meet you." Jane grinned, slowly falling into the role of Jay. Jay was the opposite of Jane. He was confident, playful and maybe a little bit of a player whilst Jane was shy, sarcastic and soft. At least that's how she perceived it. Hell, maybe she really needed to see a therapist she thought as she found herself sounding schizophrenic.
She took a sip from her coffee and smiled at Maura. "So, day off?" she casually asked. Maura took a sip as well and shook her head. "I have to be at the justice and legal class later."
"BCU?"
"Yes." Maura glanced at her. Jane noticed the hazel eyes. This girl was sexy. God, such a guy, she scolded herself and wanted to crawl under the table as she felt like Maura could read her.
"I'm attending the same class." She offered, trying to hide a blush as Maura's eyes widened.
"I've never seen you." She said and Jane thought that she looked pleased.
"Yes, no wonder, there must be a million students in this class." She grinned cheekily. "And I'm always late and sitting in the last row or on the stairs." She stated, assuming that Maura was the type to be punctual and sit in the first row.
Maura confirmed her suspicion and they both laughed. "I can save you a seat though." Maura offered and Jane shook her head. "No, don't get me wrong, but sitting in front of the teacher makes me nervous." She chuckled, trying to tame a shake of hand when leading the cup to her mouth. Maura made her nervous she thought. Oh god.
The blonde cocked her head and smiled at her again before asking what other classes Jane was taking. They found a few more they had in common and talked about some of the professors. Jane relaxed into the conversation and enjoyed the company a lot. Hence, she didn't decline Maura's offer to get them some more coffee.
She lit a cigarette and waited for the petite to return. "Smoking?" Maura shook her out of her daydreams and placed the cup in front of her.
"Occasionally." Jane said, trying to play it cool. Maura didn't comment but also refused the offered cigarette. Their conversation kept flowing easily and Jane thought that she might have found a new friend. Although they seemed to be quite different. Maura was obviously out of her league, coming from money and all. But the more she learned about her, the more Jane felt intrigued.
"I love men with beard." Maura said and Jane almost choked when she felt toes gently rubbing up her shin. As it was a nice day, she had opted for shorts so she could feel the gentle touch and had to suppress a groan. The touch reached parts of her body she'd rather had not to reach in public. She wasn't strapped as she had left the house as Jay.
It was obvious that Maura was hitting on her, and she wondered where Maura wanted this to go. To bed probably. But what else? Was she looking for a boyfriend? Jane's heart sunk. If she took Maura to bed, she had to reveal her body and earn the typical reaction. She'd rather have Maura as a friend and didn't want to risk losing her.
She cleared her throat and swallowed when Maura's hand reached out for her face to touch the stubbles that had grown over the weekend. She was still living at home because she couldn't afford a dorm and her mother hated to see her with the beard. But Jane had made it a habit to let it grow over the weekend. For one she was too lazy to shave and for two she was usually meeting the guys. And they all had beards.
She felt soft fingers touching her face and tried a grin. Oh, how would she enjoy this if there weren't some complications. Would she ever be free? Yes, if she went through with the operation she thought. If they knew each other better, Jane might consider opening up. But they had only met an hour ago. She had no way of knowing how Maura would react.
"So, why is that?" she asked referring to Maura's announcement that she loved men with beards.
Maura chuckled. "It's sexy." She simply said and her foot moved further up Jane's shin, making the bulge in Janes groin grow a little. "Oh yeah?" she raised an eyebrow and chuckled. "Oh yes." Maura wiggled her eyebrows and made a show of glancing at her fancy watch.
"We have three hours till class." She said bluntly, letting Jane know what she had in mind. Jane raised an eyebrow. "And my apartment is just around the corner." Maura clarified. Jane chuckled nervously. It was tempting, but she had never slept with a woman before. Before she knew though they were on their feet, and it didn't escape her that Maura checked out her groin with a grin.
Jane tried to hide her nervousness as she followed Maura out of the coffee shop into the busy streets. They walked in silence and as they passed a drug store, Jane asked Maura for a short stop. "Need to buy something." She murmured and Maura's eyes glimmered. "I'm on the pill. But I guess one can never be careful enough." She said as they entered the store.
Jane felt Maura's hand slip into hers and their fingers entwine as they walked towards the rack with the condoms. "Any preferences?" Jane asked because she honestly had never bought condoms and she didn't know what she needed. Her eyes followed Maura's hand as she reached up to some colored condoms and also took a lubricant which advertised an improvement in melon taste.
The brunette laughed as they walked to the counter to pay. She took out a 20 Dollar bill and handed it to the teenager behind the counter. The boy looked bored and wished them a pleasant day which made both of them giggle.
