I made an appointment with Mr. Richards today. His secretary said that he would be available for a talk on Thursday." Maura told Jane as they went to bed this night. So, Maura had called the principal as promised and Jane couldn't wait to tell him a few things that were bothering her. Although it probably was best to let Maura do the talking as she could be far more diplomatic than she.

"Good. I'm glad that Mr. Important found a spot to see us." Jane sarcastically said while helping Maura throw a few pillows out of bed and pulling back the duvet. Maura chuckled, pleased with Janes attitude which surprised the detective which had expected to be scolded.

"I'm on your side Jay." Maura said as if reading her mind. They slipped under the covers – each on their sides. So, Jane left because this was closer to the door and she had always preferred to sleep close to the door. Maura on the right because she loved to sleep close to the window.

"We should make a list though with the things we want to say. Just to make sure that we wont forget anything." The doc stated. Jane watched her set the alarm and set hers. "Okay. Lets do it tomorrow night." She agreed with a yawn. She loved their nightly routine. She lifted her arm to let Maura slide into it. One of Maura's arms went around her belly and she yawned again.

Saying I love you never grew old. As did the kiss they shared before settling into sleep. Jane was about to drift off when she heard Maura ask: "Tell me about your childhood. We never talked about it. And you were so secretive back then."

Jane smiled into the dark. Yeah, she had been. "My childhood hmmm?" she asked and nudged Maura slightly. Maura rested her arm on Janes chest and lifted her head to take a look at the brunette. "Yes, I want to know how you were as a child. I could ask Angela of course, but I want to hear your story."

Jane thought about it. "I don't know where to start." She finally admitted sort of helpless. "Start at the beginning. We have a lot of time. We don't have to go through your entire childhood tonight." Maura said and Jane scoffed. "Thank god!" she said slightly mockingly which wasn't against Maura but her habit to joke when being nervous.

She finally relaxed when Maura placed a gentle kiss on her mouth. "Okay," she sighed. "I always wanted to join the forces. Initially I wanted to be a soldier, but then I watched all of these series where the detectives solved cases I thought that I would prefer that." Maura thought how typical it was for Jane to start with her career, because the career had been her save heaven for a long time.

"I was not so bad at school and well…" Jane became a bit shy. "I applied for BCU. They took me. I was very surprised to be honest."

Maura tilted her head, remembering Jane as a student. Despite always coming late and sitting at the back and not even taking notes, Jane had always been among the best of their year. "I'm not. You are very intelligent Jay." Maura whispered softly.

Jane chuckled nervously. "I had the feeling to never be right or belong to someone or someplace." She admitted and Maura heard what she thought to be a brief sob. Jane pulled her free hand through her mane and stared into the dark room.

"Dad used to evade me which made me often think that I'm a monster when I was little. He is probably the reason I learned to fight. He and some stupid classmates." She sighed. "Ma was different. I always knew that she loved me. And she protected me as best as she could. The more nasty dad was, the nicer she was as if she was trying to make up for his bad behavior. Frankie was the best little brother one could have. But Tommy was so much younger. Too young for me to develop a connection to him like the one I had to Frankie."

Maura let some silence pass over them as Jane thought about her next words. "When I saw the shrink after you left, he asked me how I felt about them. And I said, that I'm okay with my family. He kind of thought that I was just hiding my feelings in a box, but I wasn't. There was a point when I felt grateful. Even to my dad because he took big part in making me the strong person I am today."

The doc had wrapped her arm a little tighter around Janes waist. "And you…" Jane paused to think. "Meeting you opened my eyes to many things. I always felt like you were a present. You have shown me a lot of things about me like how I can love someone and let someone love me. And you showed me, that nonjudgmental and kind people really exist in this world. You challenged me and made me overcome anxieties and most of all you made me a better person." Jane stated and kissed Maura's forehead gently.

"I am glad, that you came back to Boston. And I'm glad that you found out who I was." Jane chuckled. "Although you almost gave me a heart attack with your comment on that day."

Maura laughed softly. "Yeah. Actually, I'm not the person who is witty or funny. But it came so easy as if it was meant to be."

There was a pause in which both hung to their thoughts. "You know, I somehow always wanted to come back to Boston." Maura said, chewing her lips. "I never understood why. But I think that subconsciously I always hoped to see you again. Our time at the university left deep imprints in my life. You showed me that I wasn't all that weird and that I'm okay. You taught me to be brave. I wouldn't admit it back then, but I loved you and leaving was one of the hardest things to do. But I had to… I was just building my career. I wasn't ready to settle, nor did I ever expect someone to steal my heart. It had never happened before for sure."

"We are meant to be I think. I mean the way we met for the first time. And then we met again years later." Jane felt Maura nod slowly. "I agree. Not that I believe in fate or so. But in this case…."

Jane smiled at the fact that Maura who clung to science undirectedly admitted something like fate. "We could get married." Jane stated half-jokingly. Maura giggled. "If this is a proposal, I have to say that I would have thought that you'd be more romantic about it." Maura joked.

The brunette rubbed her eyes because she was tired. But not tired enough to peel off Maura to turn towards her bedside table. she hid her doings but she could Maura's raised eyebrows in her back. "What are you looking for?" Maura curiously asked.

Jane opened her phone and searched through her playlist, then hit the play button. Orangeblues' 'if I was your man' began to fill the silence of the bedroom and Jane turned to face Maura. "Better?" she asked with a grin. Maura gave her a mesmerized glance and almost shrieked when Jane opened the palm of her left hand to reveal a ring.

"Marry me!" she spoke softly, the bedside lamp giving a gentle light to the scenery. Maura stared at the ring in Janes palm, speechless. It was the most beautiful ring she had ever seen. "Yes, Jay." She spoke once she found her voice. "I'm going to marry you. I cant wait to spend the rest of my life with you." She added quickly, scared that Jane wouldn't understand. But jane had and smiled.

She bent over to kiss Maura gently. Then she slowly pulled away to slip the ring on Maura's finger. It was perfect she thought and smiled. Just perfect. Maura's eyes were brimming with tears as she turned her hand to see the finger from all different sides. There was a small but elegant diamond shining back at her.

"This ring is just beautiful" Maura whispered in awe. "Thank you, Jay."

Jane smiled proudly. "Thanks for saying yes." She said.

"Did you ever think that I'd say no?" Maura asked surprised.

"Well, I wasn't sure. I mean…" Janes voice trailed off as she bit back the Everybody has always left me sooner or later, knowing that it was stupid to think that of Maura. Maura would never leave her, with or without ring. Maura truly loved her, and she truly loved Maura and now they had a family with this fantastic kid and maybe some more fantastic kids in the future.

Maura cupped her cheeks gently and pulled her into a kiss. "I love you." She simply said and smiled at Jane. "Soo much." Maura added after another kiss. "I know." Jane replied with a smile. "And I love you Maura."

Then she took Maura into her arms again to settle in for the night. She sighed. "Am I allowed to live up to my Italian roots at the principals?" she asked, and both burst out in laughter.
