Epiloge – the wedding

Jane wondered if she should be nervous because she wasn't at all. Sticking to an old tradition they had spent the previous night apart, which meant that Jane had slept at her mothers, while Maura had stayed in their home at beacon hill.

The detective had slept perfectly fine after having a few drinks with her brothers who had offered her full support and cheered for her. But instead of giving her a pep talk they had ended up talking about their failed relationships.

It had been Angela who had yelled at them to stop the nonsense, although Jane had found it rather funny. The dark humor ran in the Rizzoli family, and she was so sure that marrying Maura was the right decision that she didn't mind.

She found Frankie Jr. at the deck. Getting married at their home had been Maura's fabulous idea. Jane who saw the arrangement of chairs and the altar for the first time was absolutely fascinated of how Maura could pull these things up. Of course, she had had a little bit of help from Angela. But as she had found out during the wedding planning sessions: if Maura wanted something, she got it. Angela stood no chance which made Jane giggle.

"She's almost ready." Angela said as she passed by her kids. Tommy had made his way to them and was slightly pale – sign that he hadn't taken the amount of alc drunken the previous night well. Jane used the opportunity to tease him, while Nina rectified Frankie's tie, before doing the same to Janes.

"You look gorgeous." Nina smiled at the brunette who had chosen to wear a white Tuxedo. Jane nodded her thanks, her mouth getting dry suddenly, when Maura appeared behind her in a beautiful white dress that hugged her petite body at all of the right places.

Jane just couldn't take her eyes of the woman she was going to marry in a few minutes and Frankie nudged her to turn towards Korsak who would do the celebration. He looked mighty proud and happy Jane thought. Just as if they were his kids. Well, there had certainly been times, where he had kept their heads straight, she mused with a chuckle. As they had his occasionally.

There weren't many people, just the ones who counted, which had been one of Angela's first protests at the planning. Her mother would have loved to invite the entire extended family to celebrate as she had put it. But Jane knew her well enough that it would rather have been to show off. Her daughter was going to marry a wealthy doctor. What else was there to say?

Jane felt Frankie moving beside her to signal that it was time. Time to stop thinking about unimportant stuff and move on to the next step of her live. Tommy and Maura were behind them and there were many ohs and ahs as they passed the rows while a string quartet was playing something light.

She could feel Maura's happiness radiating without seeing it which again made her the happiest woman on this planet. She heard murmurs of how sweet the idea was to let Frankie and Tommy lead them up to the altar.

Everybody just loved this but more important: they just loved them. What better way to start a new section of life right?

Once at the altar, Frankie and Tommy silently stood next to both, also acting as best man. Jane had actually been surprised that Maura hadn't chosen Kent or Susie. But she saw the happy glimmer in Tommie's eyes and silently thanked her for being so thoughtful to include both Rizzoli brothers into the ceremony. Tommy who seemed to feel better wiggled his eyebrows towards Jane who playfully wiggled back until Korsak interrupted them by clearing his throat. A big reminder that they were grown ups now. Especially as Jane was about to get married.

Maura just gave them an amused look, obviously loving the family she was marrying into. Jane quickly shot a glance to the front row, where Arthur and Constance were sitting rigidly. They still hadn't come to like Jane. But it didn't matter. Harry was seated in between them and Angela. And TJ was sitting on Angela's other side.

Both boys were grinning foolishly, and Jane hoped and prayed, that they hadn't lost the rings while playing in the garden earlier.

Korsak cleared his throat again and Janes eyes wandered to meet Maura's, which were still quite amused. "I love you." Jane said to Korsaks dismay. He had spent almost three hours to explain the steps of the ceremony and how important it was to follow them. No kiss before he had pronounced them wife and wife for example. Jane glanced at him with a teasing smile. "I didn't kiss her." She pointed out but he still looked like a father whose child needed to be scolded.

"Anyways. Dear family and friends and everybody who is close to Maura and Jane." He started with some gravity in his voice that remembered Jane of a funeral. She rolled her eyes which of course he caught, and he cleared his throat again. But otherwise from the voice the tone and speech became better and better. In fact, Jane found it great. She focused on Maura, and they kept smiling at each other. Until it was time for the vows.

Jane, who hadn't written a vow – because duh, piece of cake, suddenly stumbled over the words she wanted to say and the feelings she wanted to express. But at the end it turned out fine. Maura of course had prepared a speech and held it.

Then came the greatest moment of all when Korsak pronounced them wife and wife. The boys stood, each carrying a ring to them. Jane was really relieved that they hadn't lost them.

And then after drinking some champagne after the ceremony, and after taking some serious pictures Jane held out her hand for their wedding dance. The hours which they had spent exercising the waltz obviously paid off as their dance was perfect. Once they were done, Harry and Tj walked up to the dancefloor to their surprise. Both looking mighty cute in their tuxedos as Jane thought and they too danced with the adults. Harry asked Jane and Jane gasped when a the first chords of a samba appeared out of the boxes.

A samba, really? She thought as Harry began his lead. Maura looked equally surprised which let Jane know that she had nothing to do with this. But a glance to Nina and Frankie who were both holding up their glasses in a toast told Jane who the culprits were. At the end it wasn't so bad. The kids were of course much better at it, but jane was totally fine with it. Everybody cheered and clapped their hands and Jane had no clue of how many gazillion pictures had been taken. Especially from some members of the Rizzoli family that hadn't been invited but smuggled in by Angela.

Jane got a bit worried when Arthur asked Maura to dance. But especially when she saw Arthur whispering something to her ear. But the wide smile that ensued his words made her feel happy. After a very opulent dinner and a lot more alcohol and dances, Jane could finally carry Maura bride style over the threshold of their home and into the master bedroom.

The boys would sleep at Angela's this night and as all of the guests were gone they totally had the house to themselves, of which they made good use off.
