Finally
By

There is a moment, an emotion that I feel nearly every day
When things seem perfect
As if life will really be okay.
And in this moment that I feel
That's when I feel the most real.
It's when I put down my mask and false pretences,
Lower the guard that I didn't even know was there.
Had risen…
It's when I look into his eyes and realize
He cares.
He cares.
He cares.
It's after I tap my pen impatiently
Waiting for the final bell to ring.
And run as if the Devil was chasing
Close behind
Me
when it does.
Breathing his hot breath down my neck.
As if he wants a new Rock Star Bride.
It's after I glance out the window impatiently
Wishing the bus would hurry up
Wanting the driver to
Drive faster.
Time seems to move slowly.
It speeds up as I pause at the newsstand.
Inside my soul.
Pauses pleasantly as I buy one pack of Twizzlers at the newsstand.
Speeds up again as I walk across the street and enter my second home.
Speeds faster, as I walk like a woman on a mission towards…
Salvation.
Peace.
Calm.
Speeds even more as I walk past all these familiar faces
Faces I don't even care about at the moment because none of those faces…
Are his.
Slows like a racing heartbeat
Steadying…steadying…
To a regular heartbeat.
A regular
One-Two, One-Two, One-Two.
My hand clutches the doorknob.
It turns to the right.
As it opens he turns.
He smiles.
I smile back.
From a few feet away I toss him the Twizzlers
That I bought especially for him.
And he mouths Thank You and I mouth back You're Welcome.
And we smile.
And things feel perfect.
Wonderful.
Magical.
Finally.
Finally.
Finally.
