Team Roster

1. Misato Katsuragi (She-Hulk) - NERV Tactical Operations Director. While working to shut down the core of the experimental giant robot Jet Alone, she was exposed to gamma radiation from the core itself. Awakening a latent mutation within that she received while at the epicenter of Second Impact-which also exposed her to, among other forms of radiation, gamma energy-Misato soon developed the ability to transform, at first through anger, into a powerhouse amazon of a woman dubbed "She-Hulk" by the press. After months of doing her best to direct her 'beast within' against Angels and supervillains alike (and even grappling with another aspect of her psyche that manifested as a gray She-Hulk form), an experimental gestalt hypno-therapy utilized by gamma-powered psychiatrist Dr. Leonard Samson-along with the concern and support of her friends and loved ones-enabled Misato (through a journey into her own mind) to reconcile not only with the raging Hulk half of her psyche, but also with her father's memory, putting one of her most significant 'ghosts' to rest. When she awoke from the session, Misato became fully in-control of her gamma-powered self, no longer a savage She-Hulk, but a more...sensational one.

2. Asuka Langley-Sohryu (Ghost Rider) - The Second Child, pilot of Evangelion Unit-02. During the mission to first capture, then eliminate Sandalphon the Eighth Angel within the lava flow of the Mt. Asama volcano, Asuka, after killing the creature, nearly fell to a fiery fate, only to make a deal with the demon Zarathos, who'd been imprisoned within the mountain. Bonding with the infernal 'bounty hunter', Asuka gained the power to transform into a nightmare for wicked souls everywhere as the flaming motorcycle-driving vigilante called the "Ghost Rider". Her 'mission' to hunt down evil souls (in addition to her 'day job' fighting the (non-Biblical) Angels) would be expanded to prevent a hellish takeover of Earth by the demon Blackheart, the son of the hell lord Mephisto. Throughout both endeavors, she found a kindred, grounding spirit in fellow EVA pilot Shinji Ikari, whose presence and purity of soul keeps her from being further influenced by Zarathos; she would also see both her mother return to her, and the addition of an unexpected 'sister' in the form of her gamma-powered clone, a teenage red She-Hulk named 'Ruby Shikinami'.

3. Rei Ayanami (Silver Surfer) - The First Child, pilot of Evangelion Unit-00. Following the defeat of Ramiel the Fifth Angel, an unexpected infusion of power and its refinement within her thanks to Lilith the Second Angel gives Rei the ability to become a rider of the skyways in a metallic sheath, a "Silver Surfer", named for the strange surfboard that acts as a conduit for her newfound abilities. Adventures as her new alter-ego, along with encounters with fellow Angelic-powered individuals as well as the continued guidance of Lilith, serve to help Rei further develop her own humanity, as well as deepen the bond between herself and fellow EVA pilot Shinji Ikari when they learn of their quasi-sibling relationship; all due, in part, to Rei being a clone created from the DNA of Shinji's mother and Lilith herself. These experiences also help her sever her ties to Gendo Ikari, her creator and erstwhile 'father', and drive her to prevent his scenario from coming to pass.

4. Ritsuko Akagi (Spider-Woman) - NERV head scientist, overall head of Project-E, and for a time, unrequited lover of NERV supreme commander Gendo Ikari. Having become disgusted with the work she did in helping the man further his scenario for a controlled Third Impact, and feeling powerless to stop him, her fortunes changed when she was bitten by a feral Rei clone accidentally infused with spider DNA. Developing spider-based abilities herself, and realizing the great responsibility that comes with this power she'd been given, Ritsuko takes this opportunity to make amends for her part in Gendo's plans by creating the web-slinging alter-ego of "Spider-Woman", working to help thwart the plans for Third Impact as well as stop a massive criminal conspiracy within Tokyo-3 on the side. In the process, she fell in love, and began a relationship, with her fellow superwoman Ms. Fantastic, who also happened to be her own assistant, Maya Ibuki. (But not before fending off the 'advances' of a costumed jewel thief known as the Black Cat.)

5. Maya Ibuki (Ms. Fantastic) - Computer technician and bridge operator for NERV, as well as chief assistant to Ritsuko Akagi. A minor electrical accident during Iruel the Eleventh Angel's attack on NERV HQ bonded some of its nanites to her body, giving her a variety of powers that include technopathy, a strong healing factor, the ability to stretch and flex any part of her body like rubber, invisibility and projection of telekinetic force fields, fire generation and manipulation (as well as flight), and the ability to shift any part of herself into an orange, rocky substance. Learning of SEELE's plans for Third Impact, she set out to thwart their ambitions under the costumed guise of "Ms. Fantastic", both alone and with the aid of H.I.T.O.M.I., a partially-cybernetic clone of herself she created. She would eventually find herself having to protect the world from an invasion of forces from within the mysterious Negative Zone, and would gain more allies as she uncovered the identities of other superwomen in Tokyo-3-including her own sempai Ritsuko, who'd donned the identity of Spider-Woman. Having long held romantic feelings for her mentor, their time as newly-emerged superheroes would develop into a loving relationship.

6. Hikari Horaki (Spirit) - classmate of the Evangelion pilots at Tokyo-3's municipal middle school, as well as their class representative. Well before Shinji or Asuka arrived in Tokyo-3, the dumping by NERV of a failed experimental 'EVA sedative' into Lake Ashi proved to be an unexpected blessing in disguise for the world when the contaminant made its way into the drinking water supply of the city. Hikari, drinking some of it without realizing, soon developed strange abilities the following day, most notably the power to sprout a pair of beautiful, white-feathered, birdlike wings on her back. Unexpectedly drawn into the battle with Sachiel the Third Angel, alongside Evangelion Unit-01-piloted by the newly-arrived Shinji-Hikari, backed by her sisters Kodama and Nozomi, found her reluctant calling and adopted the costumed alter-ego of "Spirit", secretly aiding her pilot friends with almost every Angel battle. Along the way, she found allies in fellow superwomen the Silver Surfer (later revealed to be her friend and EVA pilot Rei Ayanami) and Storm (her classmate Mayumi Yamagishi), as well as gained a measure of courage enough to confess her feelings to her classmate and crush, Toji Suzuhara. Like Shinji, her presence and purity of soul also proved to help ground her newfound best friend Asuka (another EVA pilot), who would become the demonically-powered superwoman Ghost Rider. Rei would help bolster Hikari's powerset both with an 'Angelic Arm' known as the Eldritch Armor, and by having Hikari absorb genetic samples of the Third, Fourth, Fifth, and Tenth Angels to gain additional abilities.

7. Mari "Illustrious" Makinami (Captain America) - The Fifth Child, pilot of Provisional Evangelion Unit-05. Upon learning she's the great-granddaughter of the original Captain America (Steve Rogers), Mari is recruited by S.H.I.E.L.D. to undergo a new version of Project: Rebirth. Following the success of the procedure that turns her into a teenage super-soldier, Mari trains for some time before not only taking up the Captain America mantle (as well as being given a specially-equipped uniform and her great-grandfather's legendary shield), but also being sent by S.H.I.E.L.D. to infiltrate NERV's ranks as a new Evangelion pilot, adopting a 'genki girl' persona as a cover. (Her father, despite his reservations about the whole thing, backs and supports her while also being an occasional voice of reason.) Her time befriending her fellow pilots as well as their friends helped to ground her in the midst of all the star-spangled cloak-and-dagger she's engaged in, and proves beneficial when a number of them turn out to be superwomen like herself, just in time to help her against an attempted takeover of NERV from within by the sinister organization HYDRA.

8. Yui Ikari (Phoenix) - mother of Shinji Ikari, as well as founding member of Project-E and GEHIRN, the agency that would become NERV. Convinced that SEELE's goals for the Human Instrumentality Project would doom humanity instead of saving it, Yui sought to be a 'stopgap' in their plans by acting as the first test pilot for Evangelion Unit-01. When the test goes awry (by her own design), her soul becomes trapped in the core of the EVA; her accident, as a consequence, causes her husband Gendo to begin secretly working on a plan to get her back by bending SEELE's scenario to his own ends, to the point where he sends their son Shinji away for ten years. Thanks to her awareness from within the EVA's core, Yui bears witness to the turmoil Gendo puts Shinji through when he's summoned to pilot Unit-01 and endure the trials before him. Making her realize the folly in her own goals for Instrumentality, Yui at first believes in the futility of her being unable to escape the EVA...until the arrival of a cosmic entity known as the Phoenix Force changes her perspective. Helping her overcome her loneliness and casting off her helpless situation, Yui, with the power of the Phoenix, emerges from Unit-01 during the final battle between NERV and SEELE, helping to make short work of their trump cards in the Mass Production EVA series and ironically punishing Gendo for his treatment of their son...by imprisoning him in Unit-01's core.

9. Kyoko Zeppelin Sohryu (Darkhawk) - mother of Asuka Langley-Sohryu, and NERV scientist who led the development of Evangelion Unit-02. At one point during the development of the EVAs, Kyoko and her team at the German branch of GEHIRN (NERV's predecessor) presented to the organization's backers, the Human Instrumentality Committee (the public face of SEELE), a possible alternative to the Evangelions in the form of their 'Project-D': a human-sized biomechanical frame partially-created with Angelic genetic material. The Committee would quickly shut down their proposal, and in the days that followed, Kyoko and her team would continue to fine-tune their project in secret (which even included input from her friend and colleague Yui Ikari). When members of her team began being killed off, Kyoko and one remaining team member, Franz Lieberman, worked to finish their project before either of them would be next. When Franz was then killed, he left behind a recording that detailed SEELE's plans, driving Kyoko to finish Project-D, and see to it it would be secreted away before she was forced to 'fulfill' her role in the completion of Unit-02. Years later, during the battle with Arael the 15th Angel, one half of Kyoko's soul would be freed from Unit-02's core and reunite with the other half found in the amulet that housed it-said amulet being the same worn by Asuka. The now-whole Kyoko swiftly activated Project-D, transforming into "Darkhawk", saving her daughter from the Angel's psychic attack, and killing the Angel herself. Kyoko would subsequently fight alongside her daughter, who'd become the demonically-powered Ghost Rider, and their fellow superwomen as they defeated SEELE's MP EVAs. She would also get to know the new addition to her family in Asuka's clone 'sister', the teenage red She-Hulk given the name 'Ruby Shikinami'.

10. Maria Vincennes (Thunderstrike) - The Fourth Child, pilot of Evangelion Unit-04. Based at NERV-01 in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, she longed to join the fight in Japan, only to be chosen as an Earthbound champion by the gods of Asgard, in order to save all the Nine Realms from the fallout of Second Impact and prevent an even greater disaster from occurring. To that end, Maria is given the enchanted hammer Storm Bringer, which transforms her into a powerful warrior upon wielding it; she is also given two mentors in the form of Amora the Enchantress and Skurge the Executioner, a couple of Asgardian malcontents in hiding on Earth at the time, personally tasked with her tutelage by Thor the thunder god himself. Eventually sent to Japan following NERV's defeat of Gaghiel the Sixth Angel, Maria-adopting the alias "Thunderstrike" when powered-up-finds herself not only battling alongside her fellow pilots against the subsequent Angels, but also against forces venturing from the other Nine Realms seeking an opportunity to plunder or take over Earth, such as the dark elf Malekith the Accursed; the brutish rock troll, Ulik; and even the goddess of death, Hela. (Not to mention dealing with the magical mischief caused by Sylene, the daughter of Thor's adoptive brother Loki.) Time and trial would serve to smooth out Maria's rougher aspects, such as her haughtiness and overbearing pride, both of which were comparable to those of fellow pilot Asuka/Ghost Rider's.

11. Mayumi Yamagishi (Storm) - classmate to the Evangelion pilots, as well as a voracious reader. At first believing herself to be an ordinary girl, the arrival of Ramiel the Fifth Angel and its subsequent defeat at NERV's hands reveals to Mayumi her status as a human/angel hybrid codenamed by NERV as a 'Nephilim'; this in turn stemmed from her being born at the same time Ramiel's embryonic form arrived on Earth following Second Impact, when some of its energy bonded to her and caused her to develop an S2 organ. Ramiel's arrival at first awakens her ability to see the electromagnetic spectrum, but in its death throes it unlocked her full barokinetic powers and flight, as well as gave her the ability to transform into a taller form with a mane of snow white hair and completely white eyes. She was also given Ramiel's telepathic connection into the 'Angelic Collective', where she could communicate with the rest of its brethren, be they dormant or awake. Entrusted by the dying Ramiel with finding a means to mend the gap between the humans (or 'Lilin') and the Angels, Mayumi adopts the wind-riding identity of "Storm". Her travails put her in, at first, antagonistic contact with other superwomen, such as Spirit (Hikari Horaki) and the Silver Surfer (Rei Ayanami), and in her crusade, she gains an ally in the Gladiator, an entity residing within the Angelic Arm (a helmet) that she reluctantly bonds to her classmate Kensuke Aida (a friend to the Evangelion pilots). Realizing how much she erred in her earlier goals, Mayumi/Storm bands together with the other superwomen of Tokyo-3 to thwart the schemes of both SEELE and Gendo Ikari. She and Kensuke grow close in the process, with her eventually separating him from the Gladiator.

12. Mana Kirishima (Iron Maiden) - Engineering prodigy and daughter of the late Dr. Hiro Kirishima. When agents of Gendo Ikari invaded their home to steal the plans and prototypes of a secret project of his, Dr. Kirishima put Mana into one of the prototypes-which turned out to be an experimental high-tech suit of armor-and made her escape to keep it out of the wrong hands; he also entrusted her with S.I.D.N.E.E. (or S.I.D. for short), an A.I. he created while working at the laboratory of the local university. Vowing to avenge her father's death, Mana, with S.I.D.'s help, fine-tuned the armor and developed a 'nanotech' bath as a means of repairing or upgrading it should the need arise; Mana then took to the skies as the invincible "Iron Maiden"! In-between facing off with those who would covet the armor's secrets, be they Gendo Ikari or tech magnate Sunset Bain, for a time Mana found herself the reluctant weapons manufacturer for Ghost Rider (Asuka Langley-Sohryu); along the way, Mana would find additional allies in Musashi "Lee" Strasberg and Keita Asari, washouts from the JSSDF's scuttled T•RIDEN•T project. In constructing armors for the two of them, she gained partners in the form of the walking arsenal War Machine (Strasberg) and the protection-minded Rescue (Asari).

13. Hitomi Kaga (Ms. Marvel) - scientist at NERV-Central, working with Ritsuko Akagi on the Dummy System project. While working an earlier job as a research assistant at the Japan campus of Project: Pegasus, the strange alien device they were studying accidentally goes off, causing Kenzaki Kyouya, a security officer stationed there, to jump in and shield her from the blast wave. The explosion causes Hitomi's genetics to merge with some of Kyouya's, granting her various superhuman abilities and revealing Kyouya to be a member of the alien race known as the Kree (as well as being a deserter from their military). Following her arrival at NERV (after spending months honing her abilities with Kyouya's help), the desperate times of the battle with the Angels causes Hitomi to adopt a masked alter-ego, one she names "Ms. Marvel". She also finds herself covertly recruited by Abigail Brand, director of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s sister agency S.W.O.R.D., to help prevent Earth from becoming a beachhead in the intergalactic war between the Kree and their longtime foes, the Skrulls. Hitomi, in the process gains, additional allies, such as her best friend and NERV medic Sumire Nagara, who adopts the costumed identity of Photon after gaining light-manipulation abilities.

14. Aoi Mogami, Satsuki Ooi, and Kaede Agano (Yellowjacket, Stature, and the Wasp) - computer techs and bridge operators for NERV. When each returns home after a long day at NERV, all three find mysterious packages on their doorsteps, each containing strange outfits and equipment with two astonishing functions: one set that grants them the ability to change their size, whether growing as tall as the biggest skyscraper or shrinking to the size of the smallest insect; the other allowing two of them to actually communicate and control insects. Also enclosed with the equipment was an anonymous message from their mysterious benefactors (later revealed as one Janet Van Dyne and Bill Foster), one that spurs them on to uncover the truth behind the death of the equipment's inventor, Dr. Henry Pym, and how NERV factors into it. To keep their side activities a secret, the trio don the outfits and equipment as they take on the identities of the "Wasp" (Kaede), "Stature" (Satsuki), and "Yellowjacket" (Aoi). While Stature sometimes steps in to lend the EVAs a hand against the more colossal variety of Angels, Wasp and Yellowjacket go about their own brand of detective work 'on the ground', occasionally dealing with bizarre criminals along the way. At one point, the trio accidentally stumble onto a covert investigation of NERV by one of their fellow bridge techs: Satsuki's secret crush Makoto Hyuga, who's both an undercover SHIELD agent and the newest to take up the Hawkeye name (having been trained by Clint Barton, the original).

*Author's Note(s)*

Given how each of Orion's Superwomen of EVA stories (along with Mike313's 'Spirit' and Archdruid-Sephiroth's 'Tempest Aterna') were mostly standalone in nature (with occasional overlap by other characters), you'll see that I've taken a small number of liberties in order to ensure the superwomen coexisting in the same narrative (outside the omakes from each story) makes a bit of sense. As stated in my '(Un)Official Handbook of Who's Who', I added four extracanonical EVA characters to fill in certain slots in the EVA-vengers roster, whether they're Binary- or Pym particle-shaped. Makoto being the new Hawkeye was inspired by Azure Dragon of the East's 'Neon Genesis Avengers', which ironically enough is set in Mike313's Superwomen of EVA 2 'universe'.
