Time Can Be Rewritten by marysidehouse
Summary:
The Doctor's always hated endings, especially if they were meant for him, however at Trenzalore he had to see the only person who he missed more than the Ponds; his sweet River Song. Seeing her made him realize, he hadn't done everything in his power to save his marriage. So after Clara's sacrifice, he decided to step his game up, and go against his and the universe's rules, to save his family... no matter what the costs might be.
Disclaimer:
This story is somewhat canon compatible, although the events in it sets after the episode „ The Time of the Doctor", so there won't be any canon mention to future episodes. (The story is NOT compatible with any episode after Eleventh's regeneration, and no, he won't regenerate in my story, so with knowing that, let's just say it's sort of canon compatible till the end of „ The Time of the Doctor"; after that episode, it's my own imagination.)
Also River Song's regeneration timeline... I made things a bit different in my story.
Also, English is not my native language, so sorry about any of my mistakes.
Chapter Zero – From Gallifrey to Trenzalore (Prologue)
On the Fields of Trenzalore, at the fall of the Eleventh, when no living creature can speak falsely or fail to answer, a question will be asked — a question that must never ever be answered... the oldest question in the universe... Doctor Who? Who's this ancient creature might be, who touched so many lives, saved so many civilizations? Who's this lonely god passing through the universe, never asking anything in return? No, this question really must never be answered, and thanks to a simple Earth girl, Clara Oswald, the Doctor's secret could stay hidden... hidden in plain sight.
He should have felt relived and proud... proud of Clara Oswin Oswald, his impossible girl, who saved them all, but instead he only felt sad and lonesome. No wonders, since he finally started to listen to River Song's echo. He always knew his River was there, even after her last expedition, but she was only an echo, a memory, and since the Doctor hated endings, he tried to fight the inevitable, and face the love of his long life, face River Song, and tell her their last goodbye. No, he wasn't ready to do this, even after they sort of said their goodbyes at Trenzalore, The Doctor felt empty and heartbroken.
He couldn't face Clara after what just happened, so he took her home, and with the promise of return, he left her by herself. Now he was all alone, with his TARDIS and his painful emotions, which were tearing both of his heavy hearts apart.
He knew that this was most definitely not his last time in Trenzalore, but he tried not to think about the inevitable future; the future where he must die.
Silence had fall, but the Doctor was still standing... for now. They won. He really outplayed the system again, but he couldn't feel anything other than her love for River Song and the guilt how she died. If you ever loved me, say it like you're going to come back. River's voiced echoed through his mind, while he was holding the TARDIS console way harder then he should have. Like you're going to come back...
- Like you're coming back! – he exclaimed it few seconds later, when he made the biggest realization in time, like he was not alone in the TARDIS with his dangerous thoughts.
Her death was a fix point in time and space, yes, but then there was his death... deaths... Utah and Trenzalore; both were called fix points by many, but he's still done both of them without even a scratch... and knew he would try everything to stay alive the next time he must face Trenzalore. Well, this made him think... he knew, he knew he had to come up with a plan to save River Song just as he did save his own ass several times. What good a time machine can do, if you can't even save your own wife? No, fix points could never ever be rewritten without sever consequences, but for the first time in his long life, the Doctor thought damn the rules...
