Disclaimer: I do not own Seamus Finnigan or any other characters from the Harry Potter series. J.K. Rowling deserves all the credit for creating all of the characters in the series. I am not making any money off of this. This is only something I needed to do in order to keep me amused and entertained through out the summer.
Sócúl An Bhaile
(The Comforts of Home)
Chapter 1
Turas
(Trip)
Seamus Finnigan looked down into the Irish Sea almost falling asleep. His eyes fluttered a bit but he woke back up with a start. He didn't want to fall over the edge of the boat. He turned his head back up to look at the Dublin coast line. Many people believe it to be beautiful. He thinks of it as a dark omen meaning that he will be home soon. This year, his holidays are going to be hard for him.
His mother was with him during the whole trip home this year. She was waiting for him at platform 9 ¾ because she wasn't able to go to Dumbledore's funeral and she was still mad about the fight they had recently. He didn't want to leave before the funeral just because his mother couldn't stay anywhere near Hogwarts. It wasn't only because he deeply respected the man; it was because he was afraid that the school will go into shambles and he didn't want to flee just yet. He wanted to spend his last moments at Hogwarts as if it might be the school's last day open to the students. He wanted to go to school next September; he felt that it would be best if he learned more than he did about the magical world. He really wants to work for the ministry now after Dumbledore's death.
After exchanging his left over galleons for what his mother called "muggle money", they caught a bus to Liverpool. He thinks that his mother has been acting more aggressive towards non-magical folk because she has been having trouble with his father. He would always laugh about how they despise each other compared to the retro television show Bewitched. His mother told his father days after their shotgun marriage that she was a witch. Not only was it a nasty shock, but it was the reason why their marriage was falling apart. During the bus trip to Liverpool, his mother stated that the marriage was finally over and how she changed back to her maiden name. She was no longer Mrs. Sean Finnigan; she was finally Ms. Maggie Monaghan. His father moved to Belfast. The news struck him by surprise. He never got a letter for any of them how they were getting a divorce or how they were splitting up. He decided it was best if he didn't talk to his mother the whole trip home or he would lash out at her. "She doesn't want to communicate with me, then I won't communicate with her" he thought looking out the bus window until they get to Liverpool.
From Liverpool they have to take a boat to Dublin. He was sick and tired of having to jump to from one form of transportation to another. It was all because his mother didn't trust the muggle's un-natural way of flying and she was scared to let Seamus apparate all the way back home to Castlebar. Then he started to feel that the dark omen of the Dublin shore was no longer a burden on his shoulders. He wanted to end this trip quickly and get home to see his friends. Then again, he only has one more train trip worth of time to figure out a good lie on how another year at the British Prep school turned out bad and he hates lying.
