Severus Snape Was Now Evil
Severus Snape was not evil. Conniving, sure. Bad-tempered, yes. Snarky, cynical, bitter, and cruel he could even accept. But not evil. Severus Snape was not evil, and he despised people for believing that he was.
He killed Albus Dumbledore, true. He did kill Albus. But that didn't make him evil. That made him proficient because he did what he had to do. Just because he'd killed the man didn't mean he'd wanted to. Seveus Snape knew that he was self-centered. He knew he was arrogant. He knew that he was not a kind man. But that, despite popular belief, didn't mean that he was evil. And that it was his reason for killing Dumbledore.
No, Severus Snape and Albus Dumbledore had a plan. They'd had a plan before he had even taken the Unbreakable Vow. Because Severus Snape was a smart man, as was Albus Dumbledore, and they knew that this situation could be coming. And they knew that the position as a spy, constantly influencing Voldemort, was too important to give up. So they'd formed their plan.
Dumbledore had known that the Defense Against the Dark Arts position was cursed by Voldemort, and when Severus came to him with information that Draco Malfoy was going to attempt to kill him, and that it, in the end, the Dark Lord would probably force Severus to do it himself. So Albus gave him the position, knowing that end of the year he'd be gone anyway, and Albus would, most likely, be dead.
When Severus Snape killed Albus Dumbledore he was disgusted with himself. Sure, he didn't always agree with Albus. Hell, he didn't always like him. But he respected the man greatly, and he did not want him dead. But Severus Snape had made a promise that he would not turn his back on.
And now he was the murderer of one of the greatest wizards their world had ever seen. But Severus Snape had finally ensured his position by the side of Lord Voldemort, enabling himself to influence him constantly, ever-so-subtly, with no doubt on the Dark Lord's part.
After all, he had killed Albus Dumbledore.
Severus had accepted the entire situation. It was justified. He'd done what he'd had to do. But what really got to him, was the fact that everyone he knew outside his group of Death Eater's hated him and thought him a monster. They didn't understand. They didn't understand at all. They understood nothing of the plans, nothing of what Severus had been forced to do, nothing of how painful it had been. They thought him evil. And that was one thing that Severus Snape would never be able to get past.
Severus Snape was not evil.
