Chapter 10
—
A month has passed….
The Hive: Secrets remain hidden.
Bee lays out on her bed reading a magazine, there's a small tap at the window. She gets up from her bed, opening the balcony doors to see Herald with a picnic basket below. She looks around to see if anyone can see them, there's no one there, and motions for him to come up. Bee runs to her dressing mirror, fixing her hair and applying lip gloss. Her phone buzzes with a text from Vic. It reads "Miss you!". Her heart suddenly sinks with guilt and she locks the phone.
The Hive: Children grow up too fast.
Rachel takes her bow before retreating behind the curtain, only to be met with her father, and two of his colleagues. They smirk as their eyes roam her body, her father counts the money and nods to them. She stifles back a single tear that's ready to drop.
The Hive: Friends grow closer.
Dick and Kory sing along together in the car, eyes crinkling from laughter. Every once in a while their eyes will meet and they turn away with light blush crept upon their cheeks; unbothered by the wandering eyes that watch as they cruise by. A man with sunglasses, reveals himself behind the newspaper and snaps a photo.
The Hive: And addictions turn into obsessions.
Vic pops out his last steroid pill, he contemplates as to whether or not he should take it. He looks over at an old newspaper article that displays a photo of a man carrying a football across the field. The title reading "STONE STRIKES AGAIN!" Vic opens his mouth, shoves it in, and swallows.
Gar doodled along in his journal, his sad heart beating against his chest and his eyes a bit disheartened. It's been a month since he last saw Terra Markov, no one knows where she's been since. He asked her lacrosse teammates, they couldn't give him an answer. Teachers, she'd have classes with and they'd dismiss him. Even when he asked the secretary in the office, she redirected him to Russian class…which was odd. It worried him more about her whereabouts rather than the fact that she dissed him.
Did she move? Get hit by a meteor and is now in a crater facing new genetically mutated powers? He didn't have her number to call her either and if he asked his friends where she was or for her number they'd think he was a lowdown creep. Terra Markov, missing or moved? That was the question on his mind. "Hey Gar, how are you feeling today?" Kole asked as she sat down her books across from the library table.
She saw all the mystery/crime books askew and it made her raise an eyebrow, a new hobby maybe? "Peachy, why?" Only the metal from his braces shined when he smiled at her. Her eyes averted back to the books. "Just wondering…have you thought about who you might take the homecoming dance to?" His smile turned to a frown in an instant. "I-I haven't thought about it. Why who are you thinking about asking?" A blush crept on her face, oh no did Kole have a crush on him? It's not that she wasn't cute or anything, it's just that he found her more like a younger sister he needed to protect, and oh my god, if he rejected her what would happen with the group, would they need to separate and did he have to—"That foreign exchange student, uh, G. Knarrk?" Whew, thank god. "G. Knarrk? He's like a human vacuum. He eats almost anything, hell I think I saw him eat a banana peel once," Gar explained. Kole swooned, "Yeah, isn't he great?" "Does he understand English?" "I believe so, the other day he said to me and I quote," she fixes herself into her best G. Knarrk impersonation.
"Move," She smiled, Gar nodded his head with sarcastic approval. "Wow, a whole word. I'd thought with at least 3 months in this school he'd learn a sentence," She playfully punches Gar. "Shut up, I know he's not the best at communicating…but I can help him. Even if he says no, I still want to be his friend and make him more comfortable at the school," Before Gar could answer, the announcement bell ringed. "Friendly reminder to nominate your classmates for homecoming court," the announcement ended with a small zip. Gar gathered his things and stacked all the books in a pile before nodding to Kole. "For what it's worth Kole, I'd nominate you for homecoming duchess against all these narcs," Kole's eyes shined. "You would?" He nodded again. "You have a good heart and head on your shoulders, you've got my vote…also if you need help with asking G. Knarrk out, I'll do whatever I can!" Gar gave her a two-finger salute and left the library.
"Tick, tick, tick the clock is running before everyone finds out," Kory's eyes were glued to her phone screen, her face slowly draining of color. "Everything okay?" She gazed up and was met with Dick's dark shades, her scared face staring back at him. "I-I'm fine," "It looks as if you saw a ghost," She held a straight face, nothing to be suspicious about. "Yeah, saw one of those jump-scare videos and it freaked me out," She explained. "That's not your scared face, I've seen your scared face and it's more like—" He shaped his face where his eyebrows are raised and his mouth in the shape of an "O". Kory let out a small laugh, Dick soon followed.
"How do you know that's my scared face, you've been watching me?" Dick's cheeks turned a rosy pink. "Erm, um-" he cleared his throat. "You want to talk about it?" "Talk about what?" He gestured to her phone. "I-I—" "What's up lovebirds? " Vic's voice boomed through the classroom. Another blush, from both of them this time. "We're not lovebirds, right Kor?" Dick motioned for Kory to go along with it, her face fell in dejection. "Right, we're definitely not that," she snatched a book out of her backpack and plopped it on the desk with a slight slam that caused both Dick and Vic to flinch. "Um, anyways…you thought about running for homecoming duke against yours truly?" Vic batted his eyelashes.
Dick rolled his eyes and smirked, "Maybe, maybe not. I'm still thinking about it, although homecoming court isn't really my thing like yours and Bee's," "You are absolutely right, cause you know I'd kick your ass with all the votes," "Is that so?" they began to playfully argue until Wally strutted in with a smirk on his face. "What up peeps?" Wally slapped hands with Vic and Dick. "Hey Wal, who would you vote for Me or Dick?" Vic asked, Wally, scoffed. "Obviously I'd vote for me," They looked at each other and burst out laughing. "Y-you and homecoming court, the only position you'd get is the court jester," Wally's smirk fell to a frown and he flipped them off.
"Fuck you guys, I just went down to the office and handed in my ballot. Joke's on you two," They continued to laugh. Kory's phone beeped again, she quickly pulled it out when the boys were continuing to joke around. An unknown link from an unknown phone number popped up. She clicked on it and it revealed a website containing a photo of her at her apartment, naked, and a message below it saying "just like old times," She let out a gasp, her phone slipped from her fingertips. Dick turned around at the sound of her fright.
"Kory, what's wrong?" Miss Mae-eye waddled into the classroom, her tiny glasses over her button nose. She grabbed a marker and began to write on the board, "Okay class, it's time to settle down and—" "—-Ms. Mae-Eye, I need to use the restroom please," Kory shot her hand up, ignoring Dick. She nodded and shooed her away, "Of course dear, if you have to go, you have to go." "Thank you," Kory grabbed her things and began to head for the door when Dick managed to reach out and grab the tips of her fingers. "Kory, do you need me to—" "—You're not boyfriend, so don't act as if you are, " she snapped and snatched her fingers away than headed out the door. Dick's eyebrows wilted, Vick and Wally made "ouch faces". Wally leaned over a bit, "Is this a bad time to ask her to the homecoming dance?" He asked. Dick let out a low growl to him before pouting his arms and turning back to the front. "Dude, way too soon," Vic whispered and Wally muttered an "oops" as they turned back to the front as well.
Bee checked her phone for what seemed to be the billionth time today, no text from Herald. There was a text from Vic and she smiled for a bit, sure. Though it was something about Herald she couldn't put her finger on and it drove her insane. "Dr. Light's gonna give you quadruple detention if he catches you texting in class," Jinx mumbled. Bee rolled her eyes, "It's a text from Vic about homecoming court," She opened her science book and began to write notes. "You two always win, eighth-grade prom queen and king, last years lord and lady. Trust me, you two will win this," "You can never be too sure though, I heard that Kitten and her new boyfriend are running," "Is he the dude with that spider tattoo on his neck," Bee nodded, Jinx hurled in disgust. "Ugh, he's such a perv. I once caught him taking a peek in the girls' locker room during lunch hour," "They're a gross pair, who knew?" Bee wrote down a couple of her notes, though her eyes lingered on her blank phone screen. "Okay, what's up?" Jinx pushed the journal to the side and raised her eyebrow.
"What the hell are you talking about?" "You're crabby one minute, blissful the next, you look as If you barely got sleep, is it possible that you actually are—" "Don't finish that sentence, I'm not. There are problems going on at home, my parents are fighting a lot and they make it hard to sleep," "Do you think they'd get—" "Jinx, I love you but if you finish that sentence it won't stop me from shanking you," Bee snapped. Jinx's face fell a bit, she may be the tough, cool girl on the outside but on the inside, she was a big ole softie. She smoked her mother's medical marijuana for her anxiety that no one except Bee knew and sometimes she'd get in trouble with the police, just to get her father's attention, no one knew that but her.
Her dad never seemed to care though, Jinx and Bee found a flyer to this sleazy men's club, assuming that's where his late nights were. Bee realized this, patted her hand and rubbed her back, "I'm so sorry Jinxie, I'm a little stressed out with homecoming, my parents, and Vic.," "I understand…what's up with you and Vic? Trouble in Paradise?" A couple of tears suddenly fell from her face, she didn't even know she was about to cry. "I think we've hit a rut," she tries not to make a sound as the tears fall, afraid to draw attention to herself, even though she loves it otherwise. "I'm sorry Bee, maybe you should talk to him and see—" "—I'm tired of talking to Vic about our relationship and its faults. It's like he's clouded or something, lately, it's been football, football, football. I have things too, you know?" Jinx nodded the wheels in her head turning.
"I-I'm sorry, what if—" Bee's phone pinged, she snatched it up and a smile instantly sprang from her tear-ridden face. She shot up her hand "Dr. Light, I have to use the restroom," "Bee, what's going on?" "Yes, Miss Beecher you may, five minutes and I'm counting the seconds. Go," She grabbed her backpack and fixed her hair, Jinx raised another eyebrow. "Everything okay?" She stopped herself from continuing in Bee primping. "Yeah, I got a special meeting with Brooke! She says it supes important with smiley face emojis," "Do I need to come with?" "No! I mean, it won't be long. See you in a sec!" Before Jinx could respond, Bee shot out of the classroom at the speed of light.
Bee strutted down the hallway, turning her head in every direction, the hallways clear. She stopped in front of the Janitor's closet and knocked on the door, she bit her lip in excitement. The door opened and a hand-pulled her inside, only to reveal Herald with a small rose in his hand. "Herald, it's beautiful. Thank you, I wish it was longer, but I only have…" she checks her phone. "4 minutes and 35 seconds," Herald puts his hands on her thighs, urging her to jump, "4 minutes and 35 seconds is all I need," She giggles before jumping and wrapping her legs around his waist.
He closes the gap in between them, his tongue licking the outside of her lips, she gladly accepts entry. Their tongues dominate over each other, as he presses her back against the wall. She fiddles with the buttons on his shirt, he lifts hers up to where his fingertips are just below her bra line. Herald leaves her lips, eliciting a sad whimper from Bee. "Don't worry honey bee, there's more to come," He sucks on the skin of her neck, she lets out a small moan. Herald presses his body harder against her and roams his hands over her body, he unclasps her bra. "Herald," she moans. He smirks to himself, her hands scratch the outside of his clothes. He shrugs off his jacket, it's a bit too hot in here right now. She bites on the lobe of his ear, it's his turn to moan now. Bee unravels herself from his waist and makes kisses her way down from his lips to his stomach: kiss on the lips, on the neck, the chest, and his stomach. Bee grabs his belt buckle and gives him a light push to the next wall, his back hitting the shelf and knocking over a few pieces of toilet paper.
"Sorry," She sheepishly replies. Herald lets out a hearty laugh, his eyes never leaving hers. "I like it when you take charge," his voice turns into a low growl, her body shivering from the raspiness of his voice. She walks with a sultry look on her face and drops to her knees, never leaving his eyes. Bee grabs a hold of his belt and begins to unbuckle it, she takes a glimpse and notices something in his pants, she smirks. "Don't start something you can't finish," it's as if when he says that it makes her want to come back to class a little later than usual, though it may look suspicious. She took another look at him and at that moment the carelessness kicked in. Bee pulled the belt off of his pants and was about to open his jeans, but stopped herself when she heard the sound of the door open. She turned around to meet her fate of a disgusted janitor taking in the sight before him, only when she did, her heart dropped and she let out a harsh gasp at the sight of the person on the other side of the door.
The Hive: Looks like our Queen Bee just got caught in a royal scandal with none other than her new boy toy, wonder how she's going to get herself out of this sticky situation?
Her eyes lingered on the fresh scar that prickled her skin, she pressed her finger against it and let out a small hiss. Another day, another scar, another night, and her father had yet to let off of her. She needed to escape, but the only way of escaping that never-ending hell was burning the whole place to the ground and running away with a new name and identity. Her heart pounded at the thought of her father's eyes seeing the place in shambles, his mind clicking with an instant of knowing who caused this and his never-ending search to find her.
Rachel has to be smart about this, the only way she'd be able to leave for good is if she was smart about how to leave without a trace to her name. She looked at the brittleness of her nails, how they were cut down to little nubs due to the constant biting she did. Her eyes had bags under them, she didn't get much sleep after a performance, and her skin was paler than usual. What was a fifteen-year-old girl like her to do? "Hey Rachel," she looked up to see Garfield standing before her with two brown lunch bags in his hands. "I noticed you've been sitting all by yourself during lunch hour later and I wanted to bring you something to eat, in case you were hungry," He smiled politely, his braces shining under the sun. Rachel stared at him with a blank face, "I'm meditating," she responded in her usual monotone manner. His smile twisted nervously, "Um, yeah I realize that and—" "—and I've told you several times not to interrupt me during my meditation," "I-I know and I'm really sorry, I won't—" "Do it again, that's what you said last time. I need to read this book for class and I can't have you bugging me throughout with your excessive chewing," "I don't like food getting stuck in my braces," "Beat it, bean pole," she wiggled around her distressed backpack for something to read, she felt and felt around until she found the book she needed to escape with.
Rachel opened up the book to a random page and began to fake read until Gar could take a hint. He was getting too suspicious to her liking as her father would say and you know what they say, curiosity killed the cat. "Sorry again, Rachel. I'll just leave this bag here," he gently left the sack on the bench next to her backpack and sauntered off. Gar took one last look at Rachel, she didn't look up, he turned around with the shake of his head and left. Rachel glanced her eye in that direction before glancing around herself, making sure no one was watching her, and snatched the bag off the bench. She opened it and saw different foods to eat.
A red apple, carrots with hummus, chips, a veggie sandwich, and a freshly baked chocolate chip cookie. Rachel hadn't had one of these bad boys in a minute, she unwrapped the paper and took a huge bite, her eyes grew like saucers. She took another bite, after another, and another, milky chocolatey goodness. Rachel popped the last bite into her mouth and licked the sugary contents off of her dry lips. Next, she reached into the bag and took out the veggie sandwich, observing its contents before taking.a huge bite. Though, unknown to Rachel's acknowledgment Gar is watching the whole time with a grin on his face.
Kory stepped outside of the classroom and texted the person back, each message getting rejected one after the other. She wanted to chuck her phone across the hall and scream but she'd end up drawing attention to herself. She thought about someone who was good at technology, the only person that would come to mind was Vic and she didn't need him anywhere in her business at all. He'd get suspicious and tell Dick about whatever he found, and honestly, if he did, she couldn't handle Dick's reaction after he found out her secrets.
Tears started to prick her eyes, he's never gonna leave her alone. Another text from her phone, she was ready to unleash all hell on the person constantly texting her, only to see it was a text from Dick. "I'm really sorry about how I acted towards you earlier, talk later?" All of a sudden, her worries subsided a bit. She wanted to reply a simple yes to the question, smile, love the message, however, knowing Dick and his inquisitive nature, he'd only pry for more questions and something may tip him off. Kory put her phone in her back pocket and headed to the restroom, though the sound of thunderous footsteps glued her to the floor. "Hello, Mr. Wayne," She tried to smile, he squinted his eyes at her. "Where are you off to Ms. Anders," he was praying for answers and she wasn't going to give him any leverage. "I could ask you the same thing," She folded her arms and raised an eyebrow, Bruce let out a dry chuckle. "Huh, you may be more cunning than I thought you were," She cleared her throat, "Can I help you with something Mr. Wayne, I'm off to the restroom and don't want to be late getting back to class," "Nothing at all," He glanced at her again and smirked. "Nothing at all," She tried her best not to be squeamish under his frightful gaze, though Mr. Wayne seemed like a harsh and calculating fellow who could track anything.
"Are you for running for homecoming duchess?" "Why does that matter?" She scoffed. "No reason, just friendly talk. I'm curious to know the young lady my son raves about," her heart fluttered, Dick talked about her? Kory kept her composure and played with the ends of her curly hair. "I"m still a bit new to this school and its traditions Mr. Wayne, I don't think I'd get a lot of votes," "Based on your background, I'd say otherwise" She raised her eyebrow higher, "What's that supposed to mean?" Mr. Wayne held his hands up in defense. "I'm just making casual conversation is all," He dusted off his Armani suit, Kory looked down at her dingy white cardigan, with an old red shirt she cropped and high wast jeans, Bruce took notice. "Actually Kory, can you point me in the direction of the conference room?" "I believe it is this way," she pointed behind her.
"Thank you," he began to walk in the direction Kory pointed in, she let out a small sigh of relief. "Oh and by the way, I don't think you were fit to be a duchess…you look more like a princess if you asked me," He walked off, Kory's heart raced again to where her eardrums were nearly damaged from how hard her heart was collating against her chest…he knows. The tears fell and she ran off to find the nearest hiding place, she couldn't go in the girls' restroom, too many people would hear her. She whipped her head into different locations around the hallway and her eyes landed on a janitor's closet. Perfect, she thought, someplace for me to cry in private. Kory latched her hand onto the doorknob and opened the door, only to find it already occupied by an unfamiliar boy and…Bee?
"Um, Kory. It's not what it looks like!" Bee fixed her clothes quickly, urging Herald to do the same. "Bee? What on earth are you doing in here?" Kory wiped her face immediately. "I'll see you later Bee," Herald waved off once he cleaned himself up, "You appear to have some lipstick on her," Kory motioned toward his neck, he sheepishly smiled. "Oh, um, right. Thanks," Herald wiped off his neck and headed out the door. Kory glanced at him once more before turning back to Bee with an unrecognizable glare on her face, Kory never glared. "We were just…" "Fooling around? Getting a quickie in, having a nooner?" "A nooner, Kory that's so 50's—" "You're cheating on Vic!" Bee slapped her hands over Kory's mouth, Kory mumbling with protest.
"Please, keep your voice down" Bee dragged Kory into the janitor's closet and closed the door with her foot before taking her hands off and leaning her back against the door. "How could you do this to Victor? What did he do to deserve this," Bee couldn't answer and instead messed with the tails of her shirt. "Bee—" She didn't answer instead of letting the tears take over, Kory's heart crumbling from anger to empathy. "I didn't mean to, it's just that when Herald's around…I'm a changed woman," "What do you mean?" Bee took in a deep breath and patted the floor for Kory to sit next to her. Kory took a seat, "I feel more confident when I'm with Herald, irresistible, adventurous, and on top of the world—" "—But with Vic?" She sighed to herself, "Ever since that stupid Hive blast, it's like…this cloud fell on us. He's not as fun, passionate, and sweet as he used to be, he's always focusing on his football games and how can he be better," "Did you ever tell him how you felt?" "I tried, believe me, I did. He's very adamant about making his dad proud and I don't want to step in the way of that. We had a plan, Kory, go to neighboring colleges, get married, have kids, and live a life together, then Herald comes in and messes up that plan with his stupid big brown eyes," She hits her head against the door, more tears falling, Kory rubs her arm.
"Is Herald who the hive mentioned in that blast about you being pregnant with," Bee let out a loud sob and buried her face in her knees, it was confirmed in Kory's head that Bee had been cheating on Vic for quite some time before she got there. "It had been the first time I had seen him, my family took a trip to Manhattan for my mother's birthday, and there he was helping some other roadies get ready for this band that he likes gig. He took me out to a lovely dinner at this timeless cafe, we walked the boardwalk, one thing led to another and before I know it, I woke up next to this naked body with the realization that I cheated on my faithful boyfriend," She sniffled.
"I'm such a whore," Kory grimaced, "Whore wouldn't be the right term for—" "For me sleeping with two different men and having a fucking pregnancy scare? What would you call that?" "Sexually ambiguous?" "Kory," Bee warned. "I'm trying to help you figure out what to tell Vic when he finds out," Bee's eyes widened. "I'm not telling Vic anything," "He has a right to know that his girlfriend is cheating on him," "He doesn't need to know shit, Herald and I agreed not to tell anyone anything for a minute, until after homecoming—" Kory got up and looked at Bee as if she was the craziest person on the planet. "After homecoming, that's what you care about?" "I'm expected to win," Bee played with the loose thread "Bullshark!" "You've been watching Aquamarine way too much haven't you?" Kory was seething. This wasn't the Bee she knew or was it? She only knew Bee for a couple of months and she had been nothing but a saint to her.
Giving her clothes, letting her stay over and watch movies all day, study together, introducing her to her new friends, was it all a lie? Some sort of joke? Before she was this selfish, manipulative teenager who didn't care that she was playing people's emotions. Were they all like that? Birds of a feather flock together, was Wally like this? Jinx, Vic? Her heart leaped a bit, is this why Gar and Rachel stopped hanging out with them?
Is that why she was involved in their little clique? They saw the vulnerable girl and chose to make her their next popular project? Was Dick the very same? "You expect me to keep my mouth shut about all of what I just saw?" Bee shrugged. "I hope you would Kory, please?" "He's my friend too—" "I know, I know, and I'll tell him," "Tell him today then," "Are you crazy? I'm not telling him today, he has a lot on his plate and I—" "Tell him or I will," the words echoed through the silence, Bee gulped. "What?" She whispered. "You heard me, I'm telling Vic if you don't do it yourself," Kory threatened.
"You can't do that Kory, he's my boyfriend—" "Was.." "Excuse me?" "Was your boyfriend, I can't keep this secret from him. He's my friend and—" "Kory, think about what you're saying. You are going to cause a lot of people pain, me, Vic, Herald…" She stepped closer to Kory. Kory turned her head away, biting her lip. "It'd be a shame if Dick found out that you caused a rift between his two best friends, not to mention you're breaking girl code," "Girl code?" She opened her bag, taking out a compact mirror and lipgloss. "It's code girls have with each other for support against a patriarchal society," she put the finishing touches on her lips before closing the compact mirror. "You ruin the code, and I'll never forgive you," Bee opened and slammed the door shut to the janitor's closet, Kory stood there contemplating Bee's words.
The Hive: Queen Bee - 4, New Girl - 0. Look out kitten there's a new cat in town and she's just about ready to claw anyone who gets in her way.
Bee held a shaky hand to her chest, she glanced at her phone, four texts from Jinx, three from Vic, one from Herald, and two from an unknown number, she clicked on it and saw an image that made her eyes widen. It was a photo of Kory, in an obvious drunk state with a bunch of different men around her, her clothes in disarray and hair a sexy mess. Another photo was sent popped up Bee clicked on the next one and saw her drunkenly making out with some random dude, her body covered in weird amounts of glitter, and her face full of drunken glee.
Her phone pinged again to see this time a video of Kory pop up. "You are so hot," a person holding the phone says, "You think I'm hot now, wait until you see me perform," She swiveled her hips from side to side as the music dropped. "Oh my god, I love this song!" The disheveled teen fell on top of a random guy's lap and lightly kissed his forehead. "You're kinda cute," What the guy replied back couldn't be heard on the video, Bee lifted a hand to her mouth. So this was the real Kory Anders, who knew such a sweet innocent person had a dark, checkered past. Another text popped up reading "Either ruin her reputation or ruin yours, choose wisely. Send these to the Hive and I guarantee they will never find out about you and Herald," Bee bit her bottom lip, in order for her to save her reputation she had to sell out someone she had grown close to as a friend. Kory would never know it was her if she sent it, however, if she did, the guilt would eat her alive. She inhaled a deep breath and….
Vic checked the empty pill bottle, before shoving it back in his backpack as Wally and Dick approached the lunch table. He noticed a different expression on Dick's face. It looked as if he was either stressed or worried, and Dick is rarely worried. He then averted his eyes over to Wally, who continued to sport that same stupid, goofy, ass smile on his face. Idiot, Vic thought to himself. He checked his messages and searched through his messages. He clicked on one of the tabs and stared at the green text bubble displayed, no response. "What's the matter with you two?" Wally asks, taking another huge bite out of his sandwich. "I'm just anxious about the homecoming game, Walls" Vic lied.
He couldn't care less about that homecoming game, or the dance that came after it, or even the court thingy. Bee didn't need to know about any of that though. "We'll win it this year cause we've got you, me, and Boss on the team," Wally nudged Dick, who didn't break his expression. "Dude, what up?" Wally pushed. Dick let out a small grunt, Vic rolled his eyes. It's probably the fight with Kory he had earlier, he thought. The dude's got it bad and he won't even admit it. "Big Boobs McGee, 3'oclock!" Wally interrupted his thoughts, Vic glanced in the direction to indeed see a busty brunette coming their way. She wore her top low enough to see the crevices of her breast, but high enough to where wouldn't be in detection for it. Wally slicked his red hair back with his spit and wiggled his eyebrows. The girl stopped in front of Dick, he only gave her a glance and then stared down at his plate. "Hi Dick," She purred, "Hey," Dick replied back with an annoyance to his voice. "Homecoming's coming up," "Yep." "Have you asked anybody?" "Nope." "That's great, it'd be cool if we could—" "Not interested," Dick growled the last part, frightening everyone at the table.
The busty brunette nodded her head and left with a small weep. "That was kind of harsh, Dick." "I don't care, what's everyone's deal today? I've had at least 5 girls ask me to the homecoming dance within the past hour and it's barely past noon. I'm not interested. Homecoming is two weeks away, they're acting as if it's tomorrow," "You've had 5 ask you, lucky bastard," Wally muttered the last part as he sipped his Gatorade. Jinx approached the table like she's a woman on a mission and slams her tray down, her face in determination. "Hey boo, I'm still available for the homecoming dance—" "Fuck off Wally, I'm here to ask Vic something—" "But he already has a date—" She ignored him. Vic looked up to see her glaring her violet eyes at him. He gave a sheepish smile, "What's up," He gulped. It's hard to tell the difference between Jinx's playful glares and serious glares, but honestly, he didn't have the time to figure it out. "How are you asking Bee to homecoming?" Homecoming, that's what this is about? "We're boyfriend and girlfriend, I assumed that'd we'd be going together this year like we did last year…" She lets out a Hugh sigh and plops down.
"Where's your sense of romance? I swear all three of you were born without the romance gene—" "Hey!" Wally objected, meanwhile Dick shrugged his shoulders and let out another sigh. "Anyway, I'm saying this because everyone expects you two to be the hottest couple in school and what's Jay-Z without his Beyonce," "Jay-Z…" "Ben Affleck without J-lo," "Ben Affleck…" "Brad without Angelina," "Divorced," She smacked her head. "My point is that you need to make a grand gesture in order to keep your status as a power couple," He had better things to do than worry about some stupid title and hold himself in that high a prestige. "Jinx, to be honest…I don't care about any of that stuff.
Bee handles all our cutesy relationship things, I'm there cause I love her and her supporter," "Yeah, uh-huh that's cute Vic," Jinx dismissed him and put a finger to her muted lip. Her face was in concentration. "I got it! What if we get you a white horse to ride in on—" "Don't like horses, they stink and it's too much poop," "What about a song?" "I can't sing," "Poem?" "Girl where were you on the night of the school poetry slam, people threw tomatoes," "Sorry about that, love a good riot," Wally interjected. Jinx and Vic shared a look, she shook her head in disappointment before continuing. "What are you good at Vic?" "Sports, cooking—" "A cake! That would be so cute for you to do—" "Bee doesn't want to indulge in carbs during the weeks, makes her moody," "I forgot about that…what's something else," "I'm good with computers and science," "Maybe she should solve an equation that asks her to homecoming?" "While she's a straight-A student, I don't want to bore her with science," He checks his phone, still no messages.
Fuck. "Vick, you have to think of something. We've got a few days, why don't we meet up at your place and we'll talk strategy!" Vic rolls his eyes. "Fine," Jinx beams at his response. "You boys need any help in the homecoming proposal department? I'm not overbooked," Wally smacked his lips. "I'm pretty good with the ladies, just waiting on the right person to ask," He wiggled his eyes suggestively at her, Jinx rolled her eyes this time. "For the fifth time today, Wallace. I'm not going to homecoming with you, now get a life and quit trying to wiggle into mine. Capece?" She growled Wally gulped. "Capece," He slumped off to throw away what was now an empty tray. Bee approached the table with an apprehensive look on her face. "What's wrong with you, Bee?" Jinx looked between her and Vic, who was currently staring at his phone. "Nothing, just have a lot on my mind," "Homecoming troubles?" "Nah, I'm overwhelmed with school work and my parents," "I'm sure it'll be okay, right Vic?" Jinx gave him a hard shoulder, he winced and noticed her droopy-faced girlfriend.
When did Bee get here? He thought to himself. "Um, yeah. What Jinx said Bee," Vic gave an encouraging smile then glimpsed back down at his phone, Jinx muttered idiots to herself. She saw a familiar redhead approaching the table, Kory. "Hey, Kor—" Jinx was cut short as Kory made a beeline from their table to the one where Gar and Rachel sat, both Vic and Dick noticed this, Dick's shoulders slumped a bit. What's up with her? Vic thought to himself. He drew his attention to Bee's frazzled posture and then to Kory, who sat as if something had angered her.
Did something happen? "Bee, what's up with Kory—"I don't know, why would I know. I barely know the girl and you're asking me questions about why she's mad?" Bee's words flowed out of her quick as hell, everyone at the table including Dick was taken aback by it. Something is definitely up about those two and who better than Dick to investigate, Vic thought. "You know something, spill" "I don't know what you're talking about," "Yeah, you do. Your voice gets higher when you lie and you're wringing out your hands," "Am not." Bee paused a moment to indeed see that she was wringing them out and put them under her butt. "Fine, then I'll just ask Kory," Dick pushed himself up from the table, and marched over to where Kory was, Bee's heart sank to the floor.
"Can I talk to you?" Dick asked Kory, she ignored him and continued to eat her turkey, too much mustard sandwich. "Kory," Dick pushed further. "If she's got nothing to say to you, Dick. Leave her alone," Gar interjected, Dick made a pointed look to him before turning back to her. "Kory," this time she met his eyes, those green eyes and beautiful lashes blinked at him with innocence and hurt behind. He nearly melted right there, though he couldn't. He had to know what was happening to her. "I'll be right back you guys," Kory wiped her hands on a napkin and threw it down, she headed out to the corridor where Dick followed. She leans against the column, "What do you want Dick?" He swallowed and licked his lips.
"I-I wanted to check on you and see if you were ok—" "I'm fine, may I ask what is it that you really want?" His heart thumped a bit at how cold she was being, there really was something going on. "What's up with Bee," she squirmed at the mention of Bee's name and he could tell she was getting uncomfortable. "Nothing, I presume. "That's a load of bull Kor and you know it," "You have to ask her Dick, I'm not involved in any of this," "What did she say to you?" Kory bit her lip, contemplated for a moment, and shook her head. "She didn't say anything, Dick. I've just been a bit stressed at school and Bee was there to talk to me, that's all." "It doesn't explain why she's being the way she is," Kory was about to open her mouth when Bee burst through the doors and spotted them. Shit. "There you guys are! God, I was so worried about you two and—"
"What the hell is going on?" Kory and Bee shared a quick look, Bee gulped. Kory played with the ends of her shirt, Dick raised his eyebrow. "What did you do?" Dick said that more towards Bee than Kory and she put her head down dejectedly. "Look Dick, the truth is—" "—Bee found out I had a boyfriend back home and I made her promise not to tell anyone," Kory lied straight through her teeth, Bee sucked in a breath, and Dick? Dick wanted to crawl under the hole and die, he felt his heartbeat grow louder. All this time Kory had a boyfriend? She had a boyfriend and didn't tell anyone? He played right into her hands and there was no way for him to come out of it. He was hooked on her and it was as if she didn't want to let him go. "Y-your boyfriend?" Dick began to grow angry. "Yeah, it's not a big deal. I don't know why I was making such a big deal out of it, he may come around homecoming and I'm anxious to see him," Dick shook his head and stormed off. Kory watched him with her face falling in dejection, the tears brimming her eyes. Bee reached a hand out to her, "Kory, thank you—" "—Do not mention it," She moved her shoulder away from Bee's grasp and headed off in the opposite direction. At that moment, she realized that not only one heart broke in front of very eyes, but two.
Vic slinked in his seat, still waiting for the text to arrive. He saw Dick storm inside the lunchroom, Bee shortly following after. What the hell happened now? Dick made his way over to the busty brunette's table from before and whispered something in her ear, she smiled with excitement. Dick grabbed her hand and they began to strut off. Kory came through the other end of the cafeteria, her eyes a bit red. Dick and she exchanged glances, she stood like a deer in headlights then averted her eyes to the pair in front of her holding hands.
She turned away, Dick smirked and pulled the brunette closer, wrapping his arm around her waist, they walked off. "What the hell just happened?" Jinx asked noticing the exchange as well. Vic's phone went off with a ping, he punched a silent victory. "What are you so happy about?" Jinx asked, he winced. "Dad's making pot roast for dinner, he makes the best," "You're so weird," "Yeah yeah, listen, I'll be in the restroom for a bit—" "TMI—" "See y'all next period," He grabs his things and heads for the door. Bee pokes at her salad with a fork, her face in deep concern. "Bee, what's going on?" "What do you mean what's going on?" "With Kory and Dick? You were there, spill," Bee sucked in a breath. "Dick found out that Kory has a boyfriend and freaked out. Now he's in need of some playtime to make some big titty bitch, happy?" Wally and Jinx sat slack-jawed.
"Kory has a boyfriend, why didn't she tell Dick before lord us…before—" "Before what? It's not like they were together or anything," Bee answered in a cold tone, Jinx shivered. "Yeah, but Dick liked…likes her and she likes him, I thought they were making progress," "You thought wrong Jinx, Kory's a nice girl and we all mistook it for some flirtation," "That was not being nice, they like each other," "Apparently not enough," Jinx was taken aback. "Why are you being so cold about it?" "I—" She took another breath in. "I-I'm not, I'm being empathetic so I'm feeling both of their emotions and I don't think that it's any of our business to butt in," "I'm gonna check on her," Jinx got her stuff and headed in Kory's direction. She stopped for a moment and turned around "By the way, since you're being so empathetic today. Read my emotions and see how I feel," She whipped back around, leaving a gust of wind to blow Bee's way, she let out a heated sigh. She gets a text message on her phone from an unknown number, the clock emoji pops up. Bee shoves her phone back in her backpack. "Is there a full moon I should know about?" "No Wally. I'm gonna head out, see ya," Wally waved her goodbye.
Gar counts the money in his hand, only $7.53 in his hand. He's a lot short, Gar looks in both ways before knocking on the door. The door opens, he walks in to see Gizmo behind the door. "What do you want shit muncher?" he handed him the money had, Gizmo counted and let out a hearty chuckle. "W-what do you expect me to do with this shit, buy two bags of chips. Get outta here," Gizmo hands him back the change and turns back to the computer. "Gizmo please, I need to find Terra," "Why should I help you?" Gizmo asked. Gar didn't have anything to hand him, all he had was a bit of money and his shred of dignity left. Suddenly, an idea pops into his head.
"What if I got you that snake you like so much from the pet store?" Gizmo turns around and holds his hands to his face. "I'm listening," "Think about it, you're getting a snake for free and I'll even through in one of the mice for free," "For real?" "Yeah!" Gizmo thinks to himself and shakes his head. "I'm not buying, my services require cold hard cash. If you don't have it, I'm not extending my services," "Please Gizmo! Have you ever liked someone so much that you'd do anything, anything to be with them," "No," "Gizmo—" "I said no, now get outta my office. Until you have cash, I'm not helping you AT ALL," He shoves Gar out of the computer lab and slams the door in his face. Gar sighed to himself and kicks the floor in defeat. He heads to his next class, then stops when he notices Vic getting out of an unfamiliar car. Vic shoves something in his pocket and waves the vehicle off. Gar hides behind the podium and continues to watch. The car drives away, Vic comes in shoving his pockets in his hands and acting as if nothing happened.
"AUG!" Gar jumped out from behind, scaring Vic half to death, something falls out of his pocket. He's about to grab it but Gar's too fast. Gar picks up the object, it is a pill bottle. "Give it back Gar," Gar reads the bottle description, he then looks at Vic. Vic snatches it out of his hand, "You're taking steroids?" "It's vitamins," "That's complete bullshit, no wonder you've seemed beefier and angrier since the last time I saw you," Vic grabs a hold of Gar's shirt and hoists him up. "What's it gonna take for you to keep quiet string bean?" Gar gulps, "Until you have cash, I'm not helping you at all," Gizmo's voice echoes through his head. He smirks "Actually, there is one thing, I need to pay Gizmo for Terra's absence and I'm kind of flat broke," Vic drops him, Gar lets out a loud yelp.
"You mean to tell me this is about a girl? What about your money from the pet store," "You know Chief doesn't pay well—" "You spent it on Mega Monkeys 5 didn't you?" "In my defense, they are doing a crossover with fort nite and I just—" "Had to have it," Vic rolled his eyes. He pulled out his wallet and managed to pull out $50 dollars. "This is all I have right now—" "For good information Gizmo charges $100," Gar dusted himself off and checked for bruises. Vic shoved his money back in his wallet. "How about I help you with your stupid dilemma free of charge, and I keep my money," "Will my geeky crew status affect your popular credentials?" "Gar, I don't care. You keep your mouth shut and I'll help you, meet me tomorrow," Vic slid his backpack back on and walked away. "Can I bring snacks?" Gar called after him, Vic shook his head and laughed. Gar smiled to himself and headed in the opposite direction.
Bee trudged through the halls, her mind focused on the text message sent. Only two hours until the school day is over and she still hasn't sent the text. Something bumps her out of her current state, Kitten. "Watch where you're going—oh it's you," Kitten rolled her eyes, Bee doesn't notice. "Oh hey Kitten, sorry," "Huh, usually you'd bite back, cat got your tongue?" Kitten smirked. "Look, I really don't have time for a bitch smackdown right now, so I'm gonna leave this toxic convo before it gets worse," Bee walks away. Kitten and her entourage spot Bee's phone on the ground, a smirk grows on Kitten's face, and picks it up. "Looks like Queen B's secrets are mine to spread," She shoves it in her purse.
Bruce sips his drink as he swipes through something on his iPad. "Something troubles you sir?" Bruce closes his iPad. "Nothing troubles me, Alfred," Alfred quizzically raises an eyebrow. "So it has nothing to do with the Kory and Master Dick's affection towards her " "That's not affection Alfred, we all know he has a thing for redheads," "I think you're quite wrong about that one, Master Dick always talks about Miss Kory and she seems to be a lovely girl," he explained, Bruce opens his mouth to retort though his phone buzzing stopped him. He opens his phone and smiles, "What do you think about this girl now?"
The Hive: Hear Ye! Hear Ye! I have a proclamation you don't want to miss. Kory Anders is a perfect girl living a perfect lie. You think she's squeaky clean, hate to break it to you, the girl is downright dirty and naughty….
Dick's in the middle of a makeout session with another girl, blonde and tan. His phone buzzes, he clicks on the video of Kory, his heartbeat spikes. He shoves the girl off of him then goes to watch the rest of the video. "Babe, what's wrong?" The blonde asks, Dick shuts his phone off and throws it to the side. "Nothing, just saw some weird text," He goes back to kissing her, his mind still on Kory.
The Hive: There's a fine line between classy and trashy, I know what side you're on newbie….
Vic speeds through his push-ups, not breaking a sweat. He notices his dad watching with a proud smile on his face. Vic's phone buzzes, he opens it to see the same thing; his eyes widening as he continues to read on.
The Hive: Who spread little miss sunshine's secret?
Bee dabbed at the hickey on her neck with a makeup sponge, her phone beeped. She unlocks it and lets out a sharp gasp, the phone dropping to the floor.
The Hive: Well none other than her BFF Queen Bee, I mean ex-BFF that is.
Kory shuts off her phone and is about chuck the phone when she gets another text. She opens her phone to see another unknown number, the text reading. "I'm one step closer to revealing who you really are, you can't escape me anymore princess. Kory falls back unto the bed, a single tear escapes.
