CONNECTION TERMINATED
Charlie held onto the woman carrying her with tears in her eyes. To her this was the fourth time her whole world was shattered. She couldn't remember what the other three times were but she knew they existed. She could feel those events at the corner of her mind. Perhaps some memories were just best left forgotten. Charlie looked over Athe woman's shoulder to see the blood stains in the living room. She was at school when it happened. She never knew her mother, and her twin Sammy was gone two.
The woman carrying Charlie was a young huntress with two daughters of her own, yet here she was. The woman had black hair with red tips, a black blouse with a red laced corset, and a white cloak with a red interior. Her Silver Eyes were like oceans of kindness, and she always smelled like chocolate chip cookies. Charlie knew this woman as Summer Rose. Charlie's father had been good friends with Summer and her huntsman Team. Team STRQ. Charlie's father had acted as a personal blacksmith for them making upgrades and modifications to there weapons should they need them. On top of that he would make toys for Summers daughters just like he would for Charlie.
Their families were obviously vary close though Charlie never understood what caused that. Summer and her Husband, Taiyang Xiao Long were one of the few who knew Charlie as Charlotte. Only her father, Summer, and Taiyang could call her that though, and even then she was never entirely sure if she liked Summer and Taiyang calling her that.
"Don't look sweetie." Summer had said gently pulling Charlie's head to look her in the eyes. Summer had put on a forced smile, and Charlie knew it. "Let's get your things so we can go." Charlie nodded before laying her head against Summer's chest. "Everything will be alright.
Ozpin, Headmaster to Beacon Academy one of the four prestigious Academy's on Remnant used to train Huntsman and Huntresses how to combat the forces of darkness. He sat on the couch of the Rose/Xiao Long household with a mug of hot chocolate in his hand. He ran his free hand through his silver hair nervously as he looked at the file on the coffee table in front of him. On a chair across from him the blond brawler of Team STRQ Taiyang was going through a copy of the file. Standing and leaning against the wall was a man with black hair and vermilion colored eyes drinking a glass of alcohol with a grim look on his face. His name was Qrow Branwen.
In the file in front of Ozpin was an Autopsy report for Henry Emily. Divorced Father of two and currently a victim of murder. "It just doesn't make any sense!" Taiyang shouts slamming his copy of the file back onto the table. "Why would anyone want him dead?"
"Tai." Qrow says earning the man's attention. "I understand. He's my friend two, but shouting and slamming things isn't going to speed up the search for his killer."
Taiyang sighs nodding In agreement. "Your right. Sorry."
"Don't worry about it." Qrow says waving it off. "What we need to worry about is what we do with his kid, Charlie, or Charlotte."
Ozpin nods. "Yes. We know that unfortunately the signed Godfather to her died on mission nearly a year ago, and her mother has been missing for even longer which leaves her in a rather unfortunate situation. She'll have to be put into an orphanage."
"No." Taiyang denies. "Summer and I will take her in."
"Tai you can't be serious." Qrow says shifting to look at Taiyang directly. "You already have Yang and Ruby."
"I'll work double shifts if I have to." Taiyang says seriously. "Summer and I have already talked about it. We agreed that if it came down to putting her in an orphanage we'd take her in. We can't just let Henry's kid go through that."
Qrow shakes his head but doesn't say anything further. Ozpin sighs. "If Mrs. Rose has already agreed to it then I can fetch some Adoption papers, and get the process started. Charlie knows you and from what I understand she is vary fond of you and your wife, but Mr. Xiao long if you ever need help do not hesitate to ask." Ozpin states. "Much like you I knew Mr. Emily. He even designed some security androids for the school..." Ozpin paused for a moment then shook his head interrupting his own sentence. "Just keep her safe." Ozpin then began to leave grabbing the files. "Whoever killed Henry may attack Charlotte so be careful. Report anything suspicious you notice. I'll see about helping the police find the killer later tonight."
"Thanks Oz." Taiyang says with a tired expression. With that Ozpin was out the door leaving Taiyang and Qrow. There was silence for a moment before Qrow broke it.
"I can pick up Yang and Ruby from school if you want to get a room set up for the kid." Qrow offers.
"Yeah." Taiyang says absentmindedly.
"Hey." Qrow states earning Taiyang's attention. "I hope you and Summer made the right call." He says honestly.
"Me two."
As Summer lead Charlie to the car a black and red family car, she couldn't help but look back to the house her friend Henry had owned. Out of all of the members of Team STRQ, Summer probably knew Henry the longest. She met him in school back in Vale when they were kids. From there they had been pretty good friends. He'd even made her a little yellow bear plush toy named Fred. He had a purple bow tie and a matching top hat. He also held a metal microphone with a small hole in the bottom. She still had it back home on her dresser. Taiyang had thought Fred was 'awesome' when he first saw it.
Summer turned her head to look to at Charlie who was holding a similar little plush. It was lavender colored bunny plush with big plastic blue eyes. Theodore, if Summer recalled correctly. Charlie put her green backpack into the backseat and hopped in. After shutting the door Summer went to the trunk and dropped in two black duffel bags filled with Charlie's things. She then closed the trunk. Afterwards she got into the driver seat and looked at Charlie through the rearview mirror. She was buckled up hugging Theodore while looking out the window to the house with her brilliant brown eyes. Her shoulder length brown hair was slightly frizzy and she had a almost calm look on her face. The thought concerned Summer.
After starting the car Summer took a breath before reaching her hand up to her neck grasping a necklace with a brass key. If something should ever happen to me, insert that key into a small hole on the bottom of Fred's microphone. Those words Henry had told her years ago were one of the things at the forefront of her mind. Letting go of the key letting it fall back in place she put the car in gear and began driving to the new home Charlie would soon call her own.
