The Search for Simon's Parents

Mulder and Scully walk away from the Doctor and Rose. Mulder says, "When I first came here they lived a few streets over from the church we were just at."

Scully asks, "You never went home for holidays?"

Mulder says, "Only for the summer. My parents had divorced not long after my sister's abduction. They were both unbearable to live with for long periods of time. That's one of the reasons I applied to Oxford, far away from the family problems. I considered moving to England permanently. I was in contact with Scotland Yard to begin their training program, but my father convinced me to return to the states. I got back, applied to The FBI, and got my own place as quickly as I could."

Scully says, "Have you kept in contact with Simon?"

He replies, "I did for a while. He joined Scotland Yard. Did really well. Then suddenly he stopped replying to my letters. I had a buddy in the CIA do a search for him. The search returned him as high level classified. So I guessed he got recruited by MI6 or something.

They turn down a road. It seems to be more of a main road. There are a couple of stores and a fueling station. Scully says, "I seriously can't believe we are in 1961. It's just insane."

As they walk past one of the stores they see an ad in the window that has an ad of a lady in a knee length dress captions 'New Arrivals for Autumn '61. Outside the store is a newspaper box. They stop and look, the date displays as 19 September 1961. Mulder says, "This is amazing." They keep walking. As they walk past a barber shop they hear a radio broadcasting the news, 'In international news, in the weeks since the wall separating East and West Berlin was constructed tensions on both sides remain...' They keep walking not hearing the remainder of the broadcast.

They walk for awhile in silence passing the occasional business. Finally Scully says, "So what do you think about the Doctor and Rose?"

Mulder says, "They seem like good people."

Scully says, "Yeah, I wonder how long they've been together?"

Mulder says, "What makes you think they're together?"

Scully says, "Really Mulder, you didn't notice the way he looked at her, the change in her voice when she talked directly to him, or the way they held hands while walking?"

Mulder says, "Not really no."

Scully responds, "Typical guy." He acts offended. She laughs first then so does he.

They turn down another road. Mulder says, "Simon's house should be at the end of this road. We'll confirm it's them then call the Doctor."

Scully says, "How should we do that?"

Mulder says, "We'll get close enough to watch the house. Maybe one of them will come out. If not we'll think of a reason to knock. They get to the last house. "It looks almost the same. The first time I came here in 1981 there was a swing set in the back garden for Simon's little brother. Aside from that, the house is the same."

They stand nearby for about half an hour. Suddenly the door opens, a heavily pregnant woman steps out. Mulder says in a low voice. "That's Simon's mother Charlotte. Let's call the Doctor."

Scully pulls her phone out, she chuckles, "Using a cell phone in 1961." She finds Rose in her contacts and dials the number. It rings twice. "Rose, we found them. They live a few streets from the church." She gives her the address. "Well keep our distance." She hangs up.

Signs of a Dalek

The Doctor takes Rose's hand and they walk down the road where Harry indicated the Metal Monster was last seen. Rose says, "You think they'll be alright?"

The Doctor replies, "They'll be fine. We had to split up due to Agent Mulder's memories, Simon's parents must be found and assisted to keep Mulder's personal timeline. This very well could be what sets the course of Mulder's life. He said he spent the holidays with Simon and his family, it's very possible that's what helped influence him to get into federal law enforcement. If he doesn't meet and help Simon's parents today he may never meet Simon. Therefore he may pursue a different path and never meet Agent Scully, and other events and maybe even people cease to be as a result. It can all change in an instant. Time is in flux. Wait a minute did that police officer say moving statues?"

Rose says, "Yeah, is that important? He said Harry gets properly pissed and makes up stories." They stop and Rose looks directly at the Doctor.

The Doctor says, "Maybe so, but there are creatures called Weeping Angels who look like statues but they are actually quantum-locked humanoids that can only move when they are not being directly observed. In other words if you look away or blink they can move. We'll have to look into that after we take care of this Dalek and this thing with Mulder's timeline." The Doctor starts walking again, ignoring the shocked look on Rose's face. She runs to catch up to him.

They reach the end of the road and find a wooded area. They see a path leading into the woods, they take it. After a few minutes they see some nearby grass has been scorched.

The Doctor scans the grass with his sonic, "Yep, traces of artron radiation. Let's keep going." They walk some more and wind up in a large clearing. "We'll walk the perimeter of this clearing. If we don't find the Dalek we will go look for Mulder and Scully."

As they walk, seeing nothing but grass and trees, Rose says, "So you think they're together?"

The Doctor says, "I hope so, better chance to find Simon's parents, oh you mean romantically, I don't know, maybe. Do you think they are?"

Rose says, "No, but I think they want to be. The way they look at each other is just beautiful."

The Doctor says, "I imagine their job doesn't allow it."

About halfway around the clearing they see more scorched grass. And then several meters away into the woods is a tree with marks on the trunk like it was hit with lightning. The Doctor says, "The Dalek went this way. It almost looks like it was following something." They step into the wooded area and walk for nearly a half mile with no other signs of the Dalek.

Rose's phone rings. She pulls it from her pocket and answers, "'Ello….right then we are on the way." The Doctor whispers in her other ear. She blushes at the closeness. "The Doctor says don't approach 'em til we get there." She hangs up and puts the phone back in her pocket.
