Delivery

Rose comes back into the room and says, "I've got the water heating on the stove."

Scully goes into the kitchen and washes her hands. She comes back and gets down on the floor with Charlotte. She puts Charlotte's legs up, drapes a towel over her to provide a little privacy for her. She then removes Charlotte's underwear and looks. "Ok, you're not quite there yet, try not to push until I say." A few minutes pass and Rose brings in a pot of water and sits on the floor next to Scully.

Rose says, "What else can I do?"

Scully says, "Wash the scissors to sanitize them as much as possible." Rose nods as she takes the scissors from the Doctor and walks back into the kitchen. Charlotte moans out in the pain of another contraction.

Stephen says, "Is there anything we can do to help with the pain?"

Charlotte says, "No medicine, every woman in my family before me has given birth naturally and so will I."

Stephen says, "If you are sure, love." Stephen looks at his wife with concern but does not press the matter.

Scully says, "Try visualizing to ease the pain, think of something you love, like your favorite place, favorite thing to do, or even your favorite person." Rose comes back with the now washed scissors and hands them to Scully, who balances them on the pot.

After a few moments Charlotte moans out again, "Visualizing isn't working."

Rose sits on the floor to the right of Charlotte and says, "You're doin' great, really. Fantastic even. I don't know that I could do it, I'd be screamin'."

Stephen says, "Rose, do you have any experience with childbirth?" The Doctor glances over to Rose.

Rose says, "Personally no, but a few years ago I sat with my mate Natalie while she labored and I stayed in the room with her when she gave birth to her little boy. 'M sure everyone in that ward heard her yellin'."

The Doctor says, "How come I've never met Natalie? You made me meet your other friends; Shireen, Mickey, Louis, and Amanda."

Rose says, "We had a fallin' out right before I met you. I was at the shops with Mickey and we saw her boyfriend messin' about on her. That afternoon I went to her flat and told her what I saw and she refused to believe me. Don't know if she ever realized it for herself, she stopped talkin' to all of us." Charlotte moans out again, this time louder than before.

Under the moan a robotic voice can be heard, "Exterminate." The Doctor runs to the window. Stephen and Charlotte don't seem to notice.

Scully looks almost scared at the sound but then shakes her head and checks Charlotte's progress, "Ok, Charlotte this may go quicker than I thought I can see the head." She looks back up, "This will be fast, Rose stay where you are and when I tell Charlotte to push I need you to hold her leg so she stays in this position." She looks over to Stephen, "Get behind her and comfort her as much as you can." Stephen does as he is told. Scully looks to Mulder, "David.." She sounds unsure if she said the right fake name, he nods, she continues, "Get on Charlotte's left side and hold her leg at the same time as Rose." Mulder nods and gets on the floor on Charlotte's left side."

Scully looks around to see the Doctor over by the door, "John. I'll need you as well."

The Doctor turns, he looks worried, but says, "Right." He comes back over and squats down beside Scully.

Scully says, "It's gonna be fast but I'll need you to tie off and cut the cord," in a whisper she adds, "then you can deal with that. This is like the sea monster during the hurricane." The Doctor runs into the kitchen and locks the back door, knowing it won't keep the Dalek out but it may buy them a few seconds. He washes his hands and then rejoins everyone else. He kneels back down next to Scully, hating that his back is to the door and possibly the Dalek.

Stephen says, "What's that about a hurricane?" Charlotte takes a deep breath.

Scully says, "A while back I delivered a baby during a hurricane while on holiday in the states."

Charlotte says, "Must've been some holiday."

Mulder says, "One to remember." He absently rubs his neck.

Scully says, "Ok, Charlotte, I want you to take a deep breath and as you let it out a big push. Now." Charlotte breathes in and then pushes. "And again."

Charlotte says, "I can't do this. The pain is greater than I imagined."

Mulder says, "You can do this Charlotte, your body is designed for this. The universe chose women for this because they are so much stronger. I'll bet as soon as you see that little face looking back at you, the pain will be the last thing on your mind. You can do this."

Charlotte nods, "Ok, I'm ready." The Doctor seems a little antsy, he keeps looking back to the door. Stephen seems to notice but does not say anything about it.

Scully says, "Ok, Charlotte, one big push." She pushes and screams as she does so, and in seconds she breathes and the sudden silence in the room is replaced by the sound of a baby crying. "It's a boy. Ok, John, tie off the cord and cut it. The Doctor quickly ties the thread around the umbilical cord and cuts it. He then sets the scissors down and grabs one of the clean towels. Scully places the baby in the towel and wraps him up lightly then places him on Charlotte's chest. As she looks back down she sees the afterbirth has been delivered. "Ok, Charlotte, I'm gonna get you cleaned up."

The robotic voice sounds closer, "Exterminate!" An electrical sound can also be heard.

Stephen says, "What was that?"

The Doctor says, "Stay inside! Rose, come on." The Doctor runs out of the house with Rose close behind him.

Facing the Dalek

Rose and the Doctor run out into the street. They see a man laying motionless nearby. Rose runs over to the man and checks for a pulse. She shakes her head then runs back to the Doctor's side. At the end of the street they see the Dalek reemerging from the wooded area. The Doctor points his sonic at it and then puts the device to his ear. "It's not at full strength, each extermination burns even more of its life force. It should be trying to conserve." They get a little closer. The Doctor says to the Dalek, "You are weak. Why?"

The Dalek moves it's eye stalk to look directly at the Doctor and replies, "I am alone."

The Doctor says, "Yes. There are no other Daleks here."

The Dalek demands, "Why?" The blue light in the Dalek's eyestalk flickers.

The Doctor sighs, "You must have fallen through time."

The Dalek says, "Explain!" The Dalek moves its eye stalk from the Doctor to Rose and then back to the Doctor.

The Doctor says, "There were a lot of weapons and technology used during the final days of the Time War, neither side took the time to consider the fallout. There was enough energy to cause temporal displacement and all sorts of issues." The Doctor looks down, noticing a gash in the Dalek's front right panels. "You can't stay here. These humans are not responsible for the Time War or its fallout."

The Dalek responds, "I cannot go."

The Doctor says, "I could take you to a Dalek colony, there are still a few."

Rose says, "Doctor, are you sure about that?" The Dalek moves closer to the Doctor and Rose. They immediately step back.

The Dalek says, "Doc-tor! You are the Time Lord known as the Doc-tor! Sworn enemy of the Daleks! Exterminate! Exterminate!" The Dalek moves its arm to fire but it doesn't work. The Dalek backs away still moving the arm but nothing fires. They hear a door open and close behind them. The Dalek's eyestalk moves to the door then back to the Doctor. "EMERGENCY TEMPORAL SHIFT!" There's a flash and the Dalek is gone.

The Doctor says, "That temporal shift probably used nearly all of its remaining energy. It won't be a threat when it's found."

Rose says, "Can we follow it?"

The Doctor says, "There's no need." Rose looks confused.

Rose says, "What d'ya mean?"

The Doctor says, "Did you notice the gash on its panels?"

Rose says, "Yeah?"

The Doctor says, "It's the same Dalek we met in 2012 at Van Staten's odd underground collection."

Rose says, "Are you sure?"

The Doctor says, "Yep, so we've already dealt with it." He turns around to see Mulder approaching them. "You humans never listen."

Mulder says, "We've got a problem. Steven saw the Dalek."

The Doctor says, "Did he tell Charlotte or did she see it?"

Mulder says, "No."

The Doctor says, "Then no problem. I'll just wipe his memory of it."

Rose says, "Is that necessary?"

The Doctor says, "Yes, if I don't he may want to leave the area, thus Mulder never meets their son in college, never comes here, maybe doesn't even pursue law enforcement. Stephen seeing that Dalek could change everything. I know how you feel about mind altering but it's the only way. I'll only take the Dalek from his mind. He'll still remember his son's birth." Rose nods. The three walk quickly back to the house.
