A/N: Well now, certainly been a few years since I dared to do a Magic Roundabout story. I've been wanting to do a reboot of my old series for a few years now and this marks the official reboot of it. I'll still keep Belonging and Family up mostly to show how I've hopefully improved from them both.
I don't own any characters used in this story, they belong to Serge Danot
It was a calm night in The Magic Gardens, by now each of the residents of the village had settled down for some much needed sleep.
Unfortunately not all of them were having a peaceful sleep.
Over by the windmill the newest resident Train was having a clearly disturbed sleep.
Unfortunately for him it wasn't the first time lately as it had become an almost nightly event.
Of course the villagers he had befriended had all started to notice he seemed more groggy and slow lately.
Soon enough a shrill wail woke most of them from their slumber.
...
"That's the fifth time this week." Dougal grumbled the next morning.
"I swear if it's Zebedee pulling some sort of trick again." He muttered.
"I highly doubt it Dougal. We haven't seen him much since the incident a few weeks ago." Florence replied.
There was a pause as neither really spoke of Zeebad's escape, it was still too much of an uncomfortable subject for the human residence to talk about.
"Well..it definitely wasn't Ermintrude's singing." Dougal commented before heading outside.
Florence only shook her head before following him outside.
"I've not seen Train in a few days either. I hope he's settled in ok." She said after a few moments.
"I think I've seen him by the windmill lately. If he is or isn't he's not really said anything...not that he can from what I've seen or heard." Dougal replied.
"Anyway I'm going to ask around and see if anyone has any idea of what's been waking us up.. well no doubt Dylan's been sleeping through it." He added.
"Ok, I'm going to find Train just to make sure he's ok. He really wasn't looking well the last time I saw him." Florence said before heading towards the windmill.
Sure enough she was able to find him.
His body language certainly suggested he wasn't well.
It looked like he was trying to start himself but wasn't making any steam.
He hardly seemed to notice her approach him.
"Are you ok?" She asked, Train jumping back in surprise.
He quickly relaxed seeing it was only Florence.
"Hardly, I've not got enough energy to make steam so I'm essentially stuck." He replied but paused remembering the others couldn't really understand him.
"You look exhausted... have you been sleeping lately?" Florence asked knowing it was better to use yes or no questions.
Train shook his head before making a motion Florence could only assume was supposed to be a yawn.
"You've been having nightmares haven't you?" Florence asked.
Train gave her a surprised look before looking away and giving a small nod.
"Is it to do with what happened a few weeks ago?" She asked.
Again she got a small nod in return.
"So you're who we've been hearing at night...I wish you could communicate with us so we could help you." Florence sighed feeling sorry for Train.
True she hadn't known him long but he had quickly become a good friend to her especially after learning of his involvement in keeping Dougal and her friends safe.
Train made a sighing motion and nodded.
"Maybe Zebedee could help.. you did come from his magic box after all." Florence suggested, Train immediately perking up hearing the good Wizards name.
Florence gave a warm smile before calling for her friend, Zebedee soon appearing before the two.
"Is everything ok Florence?" Zebedee asked, he'd hardly been in the village recently but knew the villagers wouldn't call on him unless it was necessary.
"Not really. We've been hearing these strange noises at night and I think it's from Train having nightmares. But because he can't communicate with us I don't know how to help him." Florence explained.
Zebedee nodded before giving Train a quick look over.
"Hmmm I think I can fix the communication issue." He finally spoke, a flicker of magic appearing in his hand before twisting around Train's face and body.
"There, that should do it. Only those in the village will be able to understand him for now."
Train looked confused as to what just happened.
"Speak to us Train. We need to know how to help." Zebedee assured.
It would be a few minutes before Train finally spoke up.
"Volcano."
Zebedee instantly knew what was giving Train nightmares.
Of course by now both he and Florence had been filled in by Dougal, Dylan, Ermintrude and Brian about what had happened when retrieving the diamonds.
"I keep going back to the causeway when part of it broke.. when I'm trying to pull everyone up from falling into the lava below...but I fail and I lose my grip." Train explained quietly.
"But you didn't fail. You were able to keep them safe during everything." Florence assured.
"Do you know you're dreaming when it happens?" Zebedee asked.
"I don't know..it happens so fast." Train replied looking down.
Zebedee nodded before thinking of a way he could help.
The dream world was not exactly something he could control with other people.
"Well nightmares aren't something I can help with but there is something I've heard of that might be able to help." He finally spoke.
"Are either if you aware of what a Lucid Dream is?" He asked.
"I think I've heard Dylan mention that before. Isn't it to do with controlling a dream?" Florence asked.
Zebedee nodded.
"Control a dream? A dream is one thing but a flashback nightmare is something else." Train commented.
"I know Train, believe me I know. But if you can learn to control what you dream, maybe it can transfer over to a nightmare." Zebedee explained.
"I'm sorry I can't offer a simple solution."
Train let out a yawn.
"Maybe we should ask Dylan about this. He seems to know more about it than us." Florence suggested.
Zebedee nodded in agreement.
"Train isn't in any state to find him though." He commented seeing him trying to keep his eyes open.
"I can't move anyway. I don't have any water to make steam." Train said almost weakly before soon slumping down and falling into a deep sleep.
"Florence, would you mind getting Dylan and bringing him here? I don't know how Train reacts when he's having a nightmare and I don't want the risk of you getting hurt."
He knew it wasn't impossible for Train to move without steam, it just made it more challenging for him.
As soon as he finished speaking it was clear by his body language that Train was showing signs of distress.
"And please hurry." He added.
Florence nodded before hurrying towards the village.
Hopefully with a bit of luck Dylan was nearby.
