A/N: Well now, certainly been a few years since I dared to do a Magic Roundabout story. I've been wanting to do a reboot of my old series for a few years now and this marks the official reboot of it. I'll still keep Belonging and Family up mostly to show how I've hopefully improved from them both.
I don't own any characters used in this story, they belong to Serge Danot
It would be a few hours by the time Train woke up, by then it was just him and Zebedee as Dylan was nearby asleep and Florence had gone to make sure Dougal was behaving.
He let out a groggy yawn before looking around.
"Feeling better Train?" Zebedee asked bouncing over.
Train nodded.
"I had the weirdest dream...we were heading towards the volcano when these pairs of buffers appeared."
Zebedee smiled.
"Looks like what Dylan said really did get through to you."
"That wasn't the weird part..there was this voice telling me I was safe and protected and wouldn't be hurt. Then the next thing I know I'm being guided past the bridge to where the diamond was." Train continued before stretching his wheels.
"Do you remember anything Dylan or Florence said to you while you were asleep?" Zebedee asked
"Honestly no, but I assume that voice was her." Train replied trying to get the numbness out of his wheels.
"Um... would you mind?" He asked.
"Of course. First thing I need to arrange is for someone to give you proper maintenance, then we need to work on making sure you have a better sleep." Zebedee replied, a watering can appearing by them in a wave of magic before opening up a compartment on Train's side.
Train let out steam in relief from getting a much needed drink.
"Better?"
Train nodded.
"Still tired but yeah."
"I do wish you'd let someone know sooner. Would have saved everyone on some sleepless nights." Zebedee lightly scolded.
"How? Up until today nobody but you could understand me." Train questioned.
"You should have asked."
Train let some steam off in his general direction in response.
"I wasn't expected to be kept around. I figured I'd be turned back at the end of it like Sam." He said honestly.
"Sam's place is on the roundabout. Your place is here in the village. Do you think anyone would be impressed if after everything that happened that I took you away? It wouldn't be fair on you to turn you back after what you've done." Zebedee assured.
"Maybe your fear of being removed from the village has caused your nightmares." He suggested.
Train shook his head.
"No, it's more the concern I won't be needed. They could have crossed that bridge without me and we wouldn't have come so close to falling into lava."
"But if it wasn't for you they never would have retrieved the diamond in the temple." Zebedee pointed out.
"Wouldn't have fallen through the floor either." Train muttered.
"Hmm looks like we have to work on you not falling too." Zebedee said.
"Hey what's that supposed to mean?" Train questioned.
"It means you should start listening to that voice inside saying this is a bad idea. Any other times you've fallen that you haven't told me about?"
"Well I flew for a brief period after that chase... starting to think you should have given me wings" Train replied.
Zebedee couldn't help but chuckle at the statement.
Train let out a sigh.
"Don't tell the others but after I thought I saw you die..that's when things went wrong. The bridge, the crash landing on the island, falling through the temple floor and the other crash landing...I was constantly second guessing myself. I was worried I'd make the wrong choice and have everything go wrong."
He glanced over seeing Zebedee looking somber.
"I know exactly what you mean. At least you made the right choices." He said quietly.
He quickly snapped out of his thoughts.
"Anyway we should find you someone to give you proper maintenance when you need it."
"Can't you? You did make me after all." Train pointed out.
"That's besides the point. You need to start interacting with them more rather than relying on me. Now let's get you started."
It took a bit of time for Train to fully warm up before turning to head towards the village.
"You coming?" He asked.
Zebedee shook his head.
"No I still need to regain my energy. But I'll catch up with you later on." He replied before disappearing in a haze of magic.
Train gave a nod knowing he had enough water for the rest of the day before going off to find and thank Dylan and Florence for helping him out.
Plus he owed everyone an apology for keeping them up lately.
He let out a whistle as he approached, not wanting to catch anyone off guard.
He felt some relief that they looked happy to see him.
"Feeling any better?" Florence asked.
Train nodded.
"Still some tiredness but otherwise yeah."
The others were clearly not expecting him to verbally reply despite what Florence told them earlier.
"Wait since when can he talk?" Dougal asked in surprise.
"Since Zebedee helped." Train replied with a shrug.
"Of course he'd be involved."
"You asked." Train chuckled.
"But I do owe you all an apology for waking you up. I can't guarantee my nightmares will go away anytime soon but I'll try to not wake you." He continued giving them an apologetic look.
"While that would be appreciated Train you know you can always talk to us about anything. We don't want you getting ill." Ermintrude assured.
"Thank you. I appreciate it." Train said genuinely.
