Andre had started setting up for dinner, placing down three bowls at a depressingly large oak table, grabbing some silverware from the kitchen and setting them down nicely. When it came time to collect the large iron pot that held dinner, he stared at it recalling how heavy it was and grimaced. Putting aside his reservations he gripped its handles and was about to lift it, when a thought struck him.
He fished out the pokeball Maggie had gotten for him and contemplate letting out Bounsweet for some help. His dad might walk in at anytime and any bird pokemon could smell this thing miles away. Despite this the pokeball cracked open with a flash the happy fruit pokemon appeared. She twisted her sepals and landed with a thump.
The sunshine colored eyes stared up at him curiously and he smiled down at her. Grabbing the pot he tilted it slightly off the stove and her eyes went to it.
"Hey Bounsweet I need your help carrying this pot." He said to the fruit.
"Bounsweet!" she yelled hopping and twirling her sepals.
"Shhhhhh" he whispered a finger over his lips "you need to be really quiet else the food will spoil" he continued.
The big Bounsweet look horrified and let out a small "Bounswweet"
Seeing that she was sufficiently warned he moved the pot again to get her attention and placed it on her head his hands keeping it steady. With slow movement the pot of fish stew was moved through the kitchen's door onto the table. The Bounsweet look up at him hopping in place the exercise getting her juices flowing.
He reached down and started petting her, soft coos filled the dinner room. As he pet the soft fruit he started thinking out loud.
"You need a name" he announced
The Bounsweet didn't respond in any meaningful way just rubbing her head against his hand.
"... I see you have been taking good care o-" Rugen's loud voice made it way to the dinner hall. Andre's body tensed and he instinctively made to recall Bounsweet to her pokeball, but realized it would make too much noise. Thinking fast he quickly grabbed the fruit, went and sat down at the chair furthest away from the head of the table hiding Bounsweet under the table on his lap.
His broad chested father parade into the room shouting loudly like one of his birds and Maggie followed behind nodding her head occasionally. The two looked at the pot of fish stew, greed clear in their eyes. They quickly took their seats and ladled out food for themselves.
"Andre my boy! You have done well with this stew." Rugen announced smelling the fragrance of fish.
"Yeah, Drew, great soup" Maggie said in between bites.
"Thanks" Andre said hands below the table's edge
Rugen raised a bushy eyebrow at how far away Andre was sitting and its companion soared when he saw that Andre hadn't gotten a single bit of his own stew.
"Andre are you alright?" Rugen asked his smile lowering.
Andre who was busy keeping an fussy Bounsweet quiet, jumped at the question and his head snapped to his father.
"Yep. Just not hungry ate some of the food while I was cooking" he said trying to keep a calm face, with his dad's mercurial personality he had assumed the danger had passed. It had not.
Rugen's Smile returned in full force " Great! Now could you come over here I need to talk to about something, and as much as I like shouting you don't prefer it" he said.
Andre blinked stupidly at his father and looked down at Bounsweet before looking back up at his waiting father. His eyes flashed over to his sister who hadn't paused her eating. Their eyes met and he looked up and down multiple times and back up at her. At first it was clear she didn't understand, then her black eyes widen and horror colored them. Before she could do anything Rugen got up and started walking towards him.
"That's fine Andre my boy if you don't feel like walking I'll come to you." He said his tone warm and each step taking him closer to his son.
" NO! that's fine I don't feel like Shouting would be a problem" Andre blurted out one of his hands pushed forward as if to physically stop him.
Rugen pauses shocked by his quiet son's bellow, so loud was it that even Buttercup might have listen to him. There was a few seconds of stunned silence where nobody moved, then a great cacophony of laughter spilled out Rugen. A relived sigh slipped from his lips and he silently went to recall Bounsweet. With how loud he was laughing there was...
The Large fruit pokemon wasn't on his lap.
"Quite Right you are my boy, Then LET"S TALK LIKE MEN! " He roared at his youngest child.
Andre was currently panicking as quickly his eyes darted to sister for help. Sadly whatever had allowed them to speak so fluently to each other with gazes alone was gone. Finding no help there his eyes dart past the countless coocoo clocks with all types of bird pokemon peaking out, around the oak chairs and beyond the obnoxiously expensive Moltres painting.
"SO YOUR"E CURSE HAS BEEN MY GREATEST PAIN, UNABLE TO SEE YOU TAKE TO THE SKIES WITH YOUR OWN COMPANION." Rugen began caws coming from outside in response.
Andre who was used to this volume got up and began circling the other side of the table. His eyes keen for a Flash of purple, a hint of green.
"AND I HAVE GONE TO MANY EXPERTS TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM" Rugen continued Oblivious to his son's indifference.
Rugen clench his teeth clearly frustrated his hand grasping onto his vest straining it as he waved his other like he was trying to get rid of a bad smell.
"FINALLY I MUST ADMIT... DEFEAT, YOU WILL BE GOING TO SEE YOUR MOTHER ABOUT BREAKING THIS CURSE." He said
This caught not only Andre's attention but Maggie's as well.
"Are you serious?" Maggie said her tone disbelieving
"DEADLY SERIOUS." Rugen said his face stone cold.
"But He Doesn't even have a pokemon how the hell is he suppose to get there?" Maggie said almost breaking into a shout of her own.
"I"M GLAD YOU ASKED MAGGIE, YOU WILL BE GUID*Cough*" he breaks into a quick coughing fit before recovering "GUIDING HIM THERE" He finishes.
Maggie looks stupefied by this as Andre is about to say something when there is a terrible rattling noise as the iron pot clatters to the ground and there inside he can faintly see green. Quick as a bird of prey he leapt in front of the pot and picked it up, and there sitting innocently as a skitty at the bottom of a now empty stew pot was Bounsweet.
"Arceus Darn it" he swore loudly trying to draw all the attention to himself. He looked his father in the eye and nodded his head.
"I'll go put this away THEN I WILL RETURN". Barely remembering to shout before he swept the pot up and into the kitchen.
Rugen stared in open bafflement as the sounds of water falling and the sound of metal being scrubbed could be heard. Maggie looking vaguely amused and the green and black pokeball on her belt shaking violently.
"That was some quality swooping he did there." Maggie crowed her smile growing wide.
"Indeed some quality speed there, now let's hope your mother can help him." Rugen chortles along with her.
Maggie's smile fell into a set of pursed lips, she deliberated for a few moments before telling him.
"You know I can't take him there right? Mom lives near Snowpoint City and there's no way I'll be able to get there in time and back for my gym circuit." She stated her fingers tapping Vizzini's pokeball.
"That's quite alright Maggie a friend of mine is going to be keeping an eye on him, all you need to do is drop him off at Veilstone then he can take the trail line up and he'll be there before you know it." Rugen said confidently.
"If your sure" she said before shrugging her shoulders, black hair swaying behind as she strolled back to her bowl.
Rugen's easy going smile slowly fades away as he stares back at the kitchen where his son was. His son who couldn't hold a flying type's capsule. His son with a pokeball.
