After Doc quickly examined the gambler's body, Matt had some men take Graham over to Percy Crump's. After that, he escorted LeighAnn and Jonathan to his office. Kitty, who'd heard of the shooting met them there and stood silently in the corner, ready to defend her employee should she need to.

But LeighAnn didn't need defending as she hadn't really done anything wrong. Calmly and clearly, she explained the sequences of events that led to the gambler's death. She neither bragged of her part nor denied it. She simply stated the facts as clearly as she could.

Matt had no doubts that LeighAnn had fired her gun in defense of herself and the boy. But he did question why she was carrying a gun and where she kept it hid.

"I have a pocket in my dress, Marshal." LeighAnn calmly answered him. "I keep that gun in my pocket in order to protect myself, just as you carry your gun. The only difference is, yours is visible. Mine is not unless I choose it to be."

Matt nodded. "I see."

"Matt." Kitty stepped in. "Does it matter why she had a gun? I mean if she hadn't of had it; she and most likely Jonathan here would be dead. It's clear she only fired in self-defense."

I know." Matt answered with a nod of his head before looking over at Jonathan. "When did you say that your train leaves?"

"In about 10 minutes." Jonathan answered. He was still in shock at what had happened as well as in awe of how LeighAnn had saved his life and the fact that he was able to meet a real US Marshal. "But I can catch the next one."

"No need for that." Matt shook his head. "You've already confirmed everything Miss Turner here told me and you've signed a statement. There's nothing else I'll need."

"Oh." Jonathan was rather sad about that. He genuinely liked LeighAnn and having grown up in a city like Boston, he was loving being in the wild west surroundings of Dodge City.

LeighAnn got to her feet. "Marshal, do you have any other questions for us?"

"No." Matt shook his head as he got to his feet. "It's pretty clear what happened."

"Then if you'll excuse us," LeighAnn moved over to Jonathan, placing her hands on his shoulders, " while I walk Jonathan over to the train station."

"Alright." Matt nodded.

LeighAnn looked over at Kitty. "Miss Kitty, as soon as I take him to the train station I'll be back at the Long Branch. If that's okay."

"It is. As a matter of fact I insist that you do and then after that you can take the rest of the night off."

"Oh, no, Miss Kitty." LeighAnn shook her head. "I'm fine."

"Maybe." Kitty answered. "But I insist. Give yourself some time. Okay?"

"Alright." LeighAnn answered with a nod. "You're the boss."

Kitty waited until LeighAnn and the boy were gone before looking over at Matt. "You don't believe her, do you?"

Matt leaned back, putting his hands in pants pocket. "I don't not believe her." He shrugged. "Doc confirmed that Graham was drunk and he did have a freshly fired gun in his hand. And the boy did confirm her story."

"But?" Kitty could read him too well.

"I don't know." Matt answered honestly. "I just have a feeling that there's something more to her then just a saloon girl."

"Of course there is." Kitty frowned at him. "There's something more to every one. Just because you can't see it doesn't make her bad. You know, a few years ago I wasn't too much different than her. I was just a saloon girl trying to find a way to better myself and if I remember correctly, you didn't distrust me."

"You were different." Matt avowed with a grin. "You've always been different which is why I love you."

Kitty shook her head at him. "I love you too but you're avoiding the subject. What is it about LeighAnn that you don't trust?"

Matt considered the question for several moments before meeting Kitty's gaze with a shrug. "It's not that I don't trust her, Kitty. I'm just curious about her. Like I said, I think there's more to her and I hope what ever that is, it doesn't come back to hurt you."

While Matt and Kitty continued to talk, LeighAnn and Jonathan made their way down to the train station.

"LeighAnn?" Jonathan looked over her. "Why are you here?"

LeighAnn frowned. "What do you mean? I work here."

"I know." Jonathan stopped and turned to face her. "But why here? I mean you're very pretty and smart and…"

"Jonathan." LeighAnn smiled at him. "I am here because I want to be. I have a reason to be here. And when I no longer have that reason then I'll leave. But right now, it's you who has to leave. Okay?"

"Yes, Ma'am." He dropped his head as they resumed walking.

When they reached the station, Jonathan retrieved his bags from the station office and then walked over to the train. Before getting on board, he quickly turned and moved back to LeighAnn, hugging her tightly. "Goodbye, LeighAnn. Thank you."

LeighAnn leaned over and kissed him on the cheek. "I'm the one that needs to thank you. If you hadn't thrown that rock, we might both be dead. That kinda makes you the hero, you know. Not me."

"Hey, yeah!" Jonathan hadn't thought of it that way. "I guess it does."

"It sure does." LeighAnn grinned as she gently pushed him forward. "Now go on, hero. Your father and a whole new adventure are waiting on you. Go for it."

Jonathan got on board the train with a wide grin but stood at the door of the car for a moment before going in. "Good bye, LeighAnn." He waved. "Good bye!"

"Bye, Jonathan." She smiled as he finally went in and disappeared from sight. For several moments as the train sped off into the night, LeighAnn stood where she was. She remembered another boy she had loved more than anything. A boy she hadn't been able to save.

Taking a deep breath, she finally turned and headed back to the saloon. She hadn't been able to save Travis. But she was bound and determined to make sure he would never be forgotten.
