Day 3: Obligation
The cold and snowy evening found Kurt and Blaine entwined together on the couch, cozily wrapped under a warm, fleecy blanket. They gazed into the flickering firelight (well, the flickering firelight of the yule log channel they found on TV), contently listening to the soft holiday music playing quietly in the background. The only light in the room came from the glow of the Christmas tree.
"This is nice," Blaine sighed, shifting to rest his head on Kurt's shoulder.
"Yeah, it really is," Kurt agreed, adjusting his arm to encircle Blaine's shoulder and taking a sip from the mug of cocoa in his other hand.
"What did you tell work about missing the annual holiday party?" Blaine asked.
"I said I had to go to your work party," Kurt replied. At Blaine's gasp of disbelief, he continued. "What? It wasn't a lie. Your party was tonight, too!"
"Uh, yeah, but we didn't go to it. Lying at Christmas is a no-no, Kurt. Santa won't like it," he scolded, earning a tickle to his side.
"Ok, Mr. Honesty, what excuse did you give for not going to your work party?" Kurt demanded.
"I said I had a 'family obligation,'" Blaine responded haughtily.
Kurt snorted a laugh. "I see. I'm an 'obligation' now?"
Blaine snuggled closer, sliding an arm around his husband's middle. "Yep. I felt completely and utterly obliged to cuddle with you all night long right here on this couch. No way around it."
"Such a dutiful husband," Kurt whispered, dropping a kiss to the top of his head.
Blaine hummed happily in agreement. "It's a tough job, but somebody has to do it."
