Chapter 1
Me: Hello everyone! It's been a few years. As you might have seen from the summary, I have started rewriting this fic. Honestly, I wasn't the best writer when I first wrote this and I cringed when I looked back at what I wrote. I've gotten better though. Honestly, I took a long break from writing. I did a few Harry Potter competitions as you may have saw if you read those stories and those were just one shots. I haven't done a multi chapter story in awhile and I wanted to start again this year. So I hope you guys enjoy and if you want some more information, read the end note. Hope ya enjoy!
Disclaimer: As always, i own nothing.
"America, why can't you shut up for once?!"
"Is he gaining weight?"
"America, if you have nothing smart to say, then shut up!"
It hurt a bit, what they said. Usually, America easily shrugged off their words, but sometimes, it lingered in him and followed him in silence. After all, they should know what America is capable of and just because he had fun during meetings, it didn't mean he could be serious.
Maybe that was why, when he started planning his wedding with Romano, he felt petty enough to want to exclude them from the wedding.
"So the only people who we're inviting are North Italy, Canada, Spain, and the states, right?" America reiterated.
He and his fiance were currently in his study going over wedding planning. Although Romano had proposed to him a couple of days ago, they wanted to get married as soon as possible. They had already been together for about a century now anyways, and this wedding was only making it official since it was legal in America now.
It was actually a matter of contention between them. They each wanted to get married in their own countries now that it was more accepted in each and in the end, they agreed to have the wedding in America, the reception in Italy, and have their marriage licenses signed in both countries.
"You sure you don't want the French and English bastards?" Romano asked, though he asked half-heartedly.
Romano didn't care for England and France in the slightest, and he cared even less for how they treated America. Those two were supposed to be his parents, and they put him down at every turn. It was annoying.
Romano, at least, knew Spain cared for him. As annoying as he found the bastard, he knew everything he did was in fondness and teasing, nothing else.
"Yeah. Better that they don't know. Mattie and the states will be enough for me. You asked for their blessing, right?"
Soon after same-sex marriage became legal, the states threatened Romano into asking for their blessing before marrying America. They were extremely protective of their father (or big brother sometimes) and after the hurt they knew the nations caused, that protectiveness increased tenfold.
"As if I could get away without doing that," Romano snorted. "They gave me a lot of shit for taking so long."
"Aww, you know they like you. You're almost like a second father to them anyway after…"
America trailed off, his eyes suddenly glazed. There had been an incident about twenty years ago that America, Romano, and the states never spoke of, even now. It had gotten better and because of the incident, the states had a new respect for Romano.
Romano softened at the sight of his future husband. When he got like this, there weren't many things he could do. Standing up, he gently guided America into standing and walked him to their room, supporting him along the way.
When he got there, he gently laid him on the bed and climbed in. Romano held America to his chest as he sobbed slightly. They stayed like that for what seemed like hours until both fell asleep.
Wedding planning could wait after all. For now, Romano just laid with his fiancee and hoped he had some peace of mind.
Prussia knew something was off about America and Romano. He couldn't pin down though, and that bothered him more than he liked to admit. He knew America. They had been close for centuries now, though they had their difficulties like every friend did. He wouldn't judge him if he did anything, but if he needed help, then Prussia would give him.
And that led him to America's house.
He didn't bother knocking, knowing he was welcome in America's house anytime. It was unusually silent, which made sense as the states were off for a week in order to deal with some matters in their own states.
Prussia remembered vividly meeting the states for the first time. Back then, it was only the original thirteen colonies. They were tiny things, barely reaching above his knee as they begged him to teach them how to use a gun. He remembers America's proud but scolding look when they could finally shoot accurately. Prussia knew Americans did not like them learning to use a gun so young, but with the revolution on the horizon, they needed all the help they could get.
It was something Prussia regretted, even to this day. They were too young for the horrors of war, but no matter how much Prussia and America tried to shield them, the revolution exposed it to them either way. The world could be an ugly place sometimes, and Prussia wished those kids had time to learn the joys of the world before learning about the horrors that went with it.
"Who's there?" a sharp voice called out, though Prussia could hear a slight tremor at having an unknown man in the house.
"It's the awesome Prussia!" he called out proudly with a little smirk. He knew whoever was here would recognize him and come out. Prussia was seen as a fading country by many and because of that, he was not viewed as a threat.
There was some shuffling in the hall Prussia knew America's bedroom was in before Romano came out. He looked… not bad, but weary. Tired in a way Prussia had never seen him.
"Why are you here, bastard?" he asked Prussia, this time more confident than before.
"I need to talk to America," he replied seriously. He wasn't a very serious person by nature, but even he knew when it was important to not goof around.
"He's sleeping, shithead. You can come back another day."
"It's kind of important?" he pleaded.
Romano's eyes narrowed. "How important?"
At his words, Prussia stared right at Romano, trying to convey his seriousness. He knew Romano could be rude, but this seemed different. It felt like if he backed down, something would change between them. It was as if Romano was challenging him.
"All I want to do is help America," he started cautiously, "And I can't do that if I don't know what's wrong. So please let me talk to America."
He continued his stare down with Romano even after finishing what he was saying. There was silence for just a moment before Romano relented.
"Fine," he said, "But you can talk to him after he wakes up. Bastard hasn't gotten a good sleep for a while now."
If Prussia heard the fondness Romano had when he called America 'bastard', then he said nothing. Nor about how Romano knew America's sleeping habits. He had to be patient. Answers would come, eventually.
AN: When I first started writing, I would have a beginning notes and an end note but I eventually stopped doing the end note because I had nothing to say. And now I have a lot to say so I'm starting it up again.
First, chapters are going to be longer now. There usually going to be 2,000+ words though some might be short and some might be longer. This one was a bit shorter but I wanted to end the chapter the way I did.
Second order of business, updating schedule. Updates are going to be infrequent but expect one at least once a month, maybe twice a month. I'll try to make it worth the wait though. Hopefully, I can update more frequently than that though.
Next, this story is going to be different. There is going to be more angst than I originally planned but the story is still going to be mostly humor. I like my angst, okay? And I had a lot of ideas of what to do for angst that i wanted to include.
The next update may come sooner but I promise, this story is not abandoned. I made a vow to myself when i first started writing that i would always finish the stories I posted. This has not changed. I will finish this story. I don't know what the future holds but I don't want stop with unfinished stories. If I eventually stop writing, all the stories I post will be finished.
Anyways, I hope y'all enjoy and I'll see ya next time! Byeeeeeeee!
