A/N: This is just a little Snape-centered drabble that I wrote nearly a year ago after finishing Half Blood Prince. I rediscovered it several days ago tucked away in one of my many fanfiction folders, hence the belated posting.
Warings: Rated T for language, dark themes, and implied violence. Contains vague spoilers for the end of HBP.

------ UNBREAKABLE (by Raven Minamino a.k.a. Kuroya) ((Written: 7/18/05 Published: 7/12/06)) -------
Don't look at me. Don't speak to me. Don't you ever, ever say that word to my face, you silly little boy. Don't you dare.
You ungrateful filth, you hideous damnation, with that scar on your forehead and that gleam in your eyes... Don't even think for a second that you know all about me, know what I did and why, know my reasons laid out in a tidy list for you to read. Because you have no idea, boy, just what happened to me.
And I wish I could show you, even for an instant, what it's like to be me, but I know you'd never understand. It's impossible, anyway. Traitor, that's what you'll call me, a traitor and a liar and a cheat and a murderer. Voldemort's favorite, the man Dumbledore trusted, the man who never cared for you or your friends. The villain in this sad little tale, the one who runs away without turning his back on all that he fears.
I've always hated you, Potter. Hated you as you hated me. But I never, never wanted this.
Nothing left. Nothing left of this place, draw the curtains across the windows and walk away. Listen to the sounds that fill the air as they shatter, red stones glistening like blood in the moonlight. Screaming, howling, the flashes behind my eyes that only I can see.
And they're walking away, they're walking away, wish that I were here not there but he's screaming and it's going hazy but I have to keep going, have to take care of Draco like I promised...
Like I promised...
That's right, Potter. I promised, and you'd never understand, but I kept that promise. You'd never understand, but I'm doing what's right, and I'll be the one to end this.
No Unforgiveables for you, no curses, no hexes, no blood on your hands. It's just like he wanted, only he's gone now and it's just me and you. And I'll thank you, Potter, to shut your filthy mouth about my cowardice, to point that damned wand away from me.
Because there's nothing left of me now. There's nothing left to fight for, nothing left to die for. There's nothing left, but we're still standing.
I'm still standing.
And that's all he wanted.

A/N: Ironically enough, I disliked Snape a great deal until I read HBP, and came to the conclusion that I had not read deeply enough into his character throughout the first five books. After some thought, I decided that Dumbledore had trusted him, and that was good enough for me; whatever Snape's reasons were for his actions, they couldn't possibly be entirely evil. I firmly believe that there is more to the story here, which will hopefully be revealed in the seventh book.
Anywho, reviews are greatly appreciated. Thoughts on both the writing itself and on Snape are welcome.
