Jody seemed to be extremely nervous about something. Mary just couldn't figure out if it was her. And if it was, was it the fact that she had a giant dog as her 'guardian', the fact that she wouldn't tell the woman last names, or the fact that she wanted a ride to Singer's Salvage Yard? They rode in silence, Mary petting Sirius, who sat at her feet and stretched onto her lap, to ease her nerves.

When Jody finally stopped the car, she turned once again to Mary and asked, "Are you sure you want to stay here? I can still take you to the station and call your guardians."

Mary turned from her place gazing out the window at the black Impala. "I'm sure. There's nothing there for me. And Sirius wouldn't let anything happen to me. I'll be fine, but thank you for the ride and your concern."

Jody still looked worried. "Do you have a phone?" At Mary's affirming nod, she listed off her number, as Mary put it in. "Call me if anything happens."

"Thank you," Mary called back one last time as she opened the door, letting Sirius out before her. She knew that Jody was watching her, so she strode up to the door with more confidence than she felt and knocked. That seemed to be a trend in her life, showing more confidence than she actually possessed. A giant with brown hair nearly as long as Sirius's opened the door, hiding a gun from Jody's sight, but not Sirius's.

"Siri," Mary soothed, before turning her attention fully to the man. "Are you Robert Singer?" she asked.

"No. Who are you?" the man demanded.

"My name is Mary. Mr. Singer is a friend of my godfather's. He told me to go to him if I ever needed help." Sirius was growling again, putting the man more on edge. When the man stayed where he was just staring at her, she asked, with annoyance obvious in her voice, "May I speak with him?"

He seemed to have just noticed Jody sitting watching the interaction and motioned her into the hall, closing the door behind them just to point the gun at her head. "Bobby, there is a girl asking for you." Mary was doing everything she could to keep Sirius from attacking him. A blond man only a few years older than the first man came in with a glass of water and splashed it in her face. Mary closed her eyes in shock, despite the fact that her glasses blocked her eyes. She then took off her glasses, and rubbed then on her shirt to dry them, putting them back on, and leveled a glare that had scared most Gryffindors when they annoyed her.

"Thank you. That's exactly what I wanted, so thank you so very much," she told him very sarcastically. He looked sheepish. Sirius was laughing at him in her head. "If you are done soaking me, I would appreciate speaking to Mr. Singer."

"Not yet. Hold out your hand," the blond told her.

Just to be difficult, because they had splashed her with water without an explanation, she asked, "Why?" while folding her arms.

The brunette seemed to understand her defiance. "It won't hurt much. He's just going to nick you with a knife." Then he seemed to flinch at the way he worded it.

"Oh, is that all? Then give me the knife and I'll do it myself," she told him before muttering under her breath, "Just what have you got me into, Padfoot?"

She cut her left index finger, letting it bleed, before handing the knife back to the blond. "Now, may I speak to Mr. Singer?"

"Bobby, she's clean. What's your name, kid?" the blond asked.

Mary took a deep breath, considering whether or not to set Sirius on the both of them for annoying her. In the end, she decided that it might not make her all that popular with Bobby, so she took a deep breath and told him to ask his brother.

A third, older man came out into the hallway. "Ya idjits, can't ya see the dog's nervous?"

"Are you Robert Singer?" Mary asked again!

"Yeah. Who's asking?" he asked, shooing the others behind him as he walked closer to her.

Then she repeated what Sirius told her to.

"Padfoot's goddaughter."

The reaction was instantaneous.
